The Polo Lounge has become a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. I usually go there once every 2-3 months on a Fri or Sat for some drinks, people watching, and dancing. The crowd for most part is usually quite mixed, everything from 20-somethings to 65+ (mostly 30's-50's), and often there are some very colorful characters in the mix. Some nights have been "off" and it can be dead there, but on a good night it can be quite a fun scene. The decor includes zebra-print booths and there are 2 main sitting areas which offer a different vibe depending what you're up for. Sometimes seating is limited though so you may have to take what you can get. Gemini, a male/female singing duo perform on weekends, playing fun music from the 70's to current hits to dance to. The waitress Gina always remembers me and my usual order which is always nice. I can see this place not being for everyone, but it's worth checking out at least once to find out!
Review Source:This is a nice little hidden spot in Reno. Our bartender, whom I cannot remember her name, was fabulous. She was just lovely. Such personality! The atmosphere was nice. It reminded me of this English pub I visited while I was in West Africa. Yep, that's what it brought back. They have a stage with live music on some nights, comfy booths, white lights in the trees and bathrooms that I may have been able to eat off of they were so spotlessly clean. Whew. I would gladly stop in here again. Cheers!
P.S. The music was good too - upbeat pop with a mix of a few classic songs. It kept my attention since I was the youngest one in there!
i feel like i real adult in this place. Â this place is full of individuals, people that you want to know individually and not just a crowd. Â Everyone i've met here over a game of video poker and a gin and tonic - remember...very adult - Â has had a really good story and knows how to make you feel like one ot the regs. Â Its' like a mini "Cheers". Â The co owner / owners wife even makes a little scrumptions dish for every on the weekends, just for that extra touch that i value so much.
Review Source:I am a huge fan of the Polo Lounge! Â The owners and staff are top notch. Â There is always live entertainment on the weekends.
the bartenders are always quick with a drink and are extremely friendly. Â Drinks are usually on the stiff side and are reasonably priced.
There is no longer smoking inside but there is outdoor seating for those that do smoke.
To call this place a dive bar is ludicrous! Â Frank provides an upscale, professional establishment for the consumption of fine spirits! Â If you have never been there stop in some night and have a martini.
Used to go here all the time with a bunch of friends who spent a lot of money on drinks. They know who and how much we spend. I will never go there again because one night Gina (who says she's the owner) which I thought was her dad Frank, anyways she waitresses and proceeded to charge my friend $12 more for 2 drinks than what was ordered earlier at the bar, when my friend questioned her she got real rude with her tone and said "she'a the owners" and that's how it is. Well, Polo how's business going for you, that's what I thought. U should treat ur regulars (who are no more) better. Please people don't support this place its gone down hill and to think of it I now know why people used to frown when I told them that's where I was going on a Fri or Sat nite.
Review Source:I think what people don't get about the Polo is that its a lot like one of those "make your own adventure" books from our childhood. Literally the Polo is one of the few places in Reno where anything can, and routinely does, happen.
A friend of mine introduced me to the Polo almost 10 years ago. Sitting in some more upscale place he looked at me agape and in shock when I told him I had never been there nor had I ever heard of it. Upon going, it was like someone gave me the keys to a Reno long since gone, which was a place I missed as I grew up here.
Long and short, I love the Polo. Frank, the owner, is one of the more entertaining guys in Reno. Yes, the average patron is a senior citizen. So what? I have had more fun in there on some nights with the octogenarians than I ever would have had with their 22 year old counter parts.
Strong drinks, strange people, good times, I love the Polo.
This is an institution. This bar is for everybody -- but it tends to attract an older crowd (40+). That means these are professional drinkers, kids. If you want to get rowdy, go somewhere else. The cougar contingent is out in full force: my fiancee has been groped from behind while defenseless, standing at the bar, waiting for a drink. Live band on the weekends, playing all the golden oldies. Draws a large crowd. Smokey as all get out. Tiger print booths and carpet are a trip. Drinks are cheap and the conversation comes easy. This bar is quintessential Reno.
Review Source:This old school haunt has character and stiff drinks. Â They allow smoking so be aware of that. Â I don't think a person can call themselves a Renoite until they've dined at the Lil Nugget Diner and had a cocktail at The Polo Lounge. Â
Someone else called this a dive bar but that's a terrible description. Â There is nothing divey about it. Â It's in a nice strip mall, it's well maintained, and the bathrooms are very clean. Â Me thinks Mary L doesn't get what the term dive bar means...
Anyways, have a drink here after dining at Bangkok Cuisine (across street) or Si Amigos (next door). Â I doubt you'll walk away dissapointed. Â They don't make bars like this anymore.....
Went here for the first time last night with my a good freind. Â I had to be good though, not just because I was the designated driver, but also because she's married . Â She knew most of the people there including the owner who set us up with a good table in the band area. Â Bars aren't really my thing, but I'd definitely come back to the Polo Lounge again. Â There was a good mix of young and old. Â It's not full of caca-talking kiddies playing wannabe poseur, which is a nice change of pace.
The house band was really rocking. Â Way better than I was expecting at a local lounge. Â We had great service. Â The dance floor was occupied most of the night. Â Not large, but comfortable. Â Nothing fancy or trendy either, just clean and friendly. Â I don't smoke and despite the PL being smoker friendly I didn't notice it being smokey at all, and that's something I'd notice. Â They don't serve any food here. Â Found out later that our hostess was the owners daughter when she introduced herself as we were heading out.
We popped in here last night to see how the place was when it actually had a decent crowd... Â We were EASILY the youngest people there by at least 20 years. Â Additionally, they had either a band or karaoke going in the other room, off on the side. How sad is it that we couldn't tell which it was? Â If it was a band, could be one of the worst bands ev-ah! Â It was definitely amateur night, either way. Â
And this isn't really the bar's fault, but it's worth mentioning. Â The crowd was horribly unattractive. Â Seriously--bunch of freakin' trolls. Â Oh, and senior citizens who kept doing laps around the bar like they were early-morning-mall-power-walkers. Â And that was just weird.
So, apparently Saturday at the Polo Lounge is old-troll night. You must be "THIS" ugly and "THIS" old to enter.
