This place has improved 250% since the restaurant smoking ban passed in Saint Louis County.
Beer selection isn't impressive by any stretch but the specials are nicely priced. Service is pretty good, great place for catching up with friends. Nice inexpensive place for dinner.
I wouldn't necessarily reccomend it as anything other than a neighborhood bar, but all things considered, it's pretty good.
*Disclaimer* It was VERY busy... but the place left some to be desired. First, there is absolutely NO waiting area. You walk in right on top of other people dining. We waited a reasonable amount of time, despite the place being busy, but there was no one there to greet us and put our name on the list right away. When we finally did get seated, they asked another couple to give up half their table (I felt bad for them). We were literally in the doorway so when others walked in they had to stand 2 inches away from us while they waited. We tried to move our table and then were asked to move it back after we had food on our table. We ordered the wing special. The wings at the Eureka location are TO DIE FOR. This location's wings were burned to a crisp and were inedible. We complained and the first waitress didn't even apologize. The second girl who was helping us (why have two waitresses?) was much more apologetic. The girls were busting their butts, but they were obviously understaffed. 15 minutes to get a dinner salad, 40+ minutes for 2 orders of 12 wings. When we left, I immediately noticed that I smelled like a fryer. The ventilation must be awful! I had to strip and wash my clothes immediately and shower because our house started to smell like fryer!
Probably will give it another try...but it won't be the top of the list in the future.
Good Stuff
I can honestly say they have the best Bloody Mary around. Also their food is good and also inexpensive. Excellent wings, burgers. Recently I had the Philly steak and cheese which was awesome. I would give Poor Richards a full five stars except for one thing. When you come out of this place your clothes smell like you've been working the deep fryer all day. They need some better ventilation in that place.
Poor Richards is definitely a "Cheers" kind of bar. Â We usually end up going there when we are in the neighborhood. Â The staff is really nice, attentive, and real. Â The bartender has a good rapore with everyone. Â They have great beer specials and their food is real good too. Â We had the wings, salad, and cheese garlic bread special, I believe it cost 8.95. Â I am not a wing lover, however, these wings were probably the best I have ever had! Â They have a home made ranch dressing that is so good! Â The garlic bread, well, it needs some help LOL.
The downside of Poor Richards is I wonder if their exhaust hood is working or if they even have one at all.  The place smells like pure grease!  I smelled it this time before I even opened the front door and consequently you leave there smelling like the fryer  (this may be a reason not to go or not to go back).  The decor is outdated seriously.
If you review it for the food, the service, and the cheap drinks, four stars! Â If you review it for the atmosphere, and the smell of the place...two stars. Â Making it three stars for me.
Sorry Poor Richards.
this place is certainly....... interesting. I'll start by saying the waitress was "efficient". very to the point. probably could tell I had never been here just like I could tell she prob never leaves. no matter! I trekked on. as others have said its an older crowd who prob think 'yelp' is what old yeller does in the 100th minute of the film.
SO - bear head, duck, and deer still on wall. as is the 32in vintage Sony or magnavox (I couldn't tell which too far away). But the place was jumping when I got here, in a hop scotch kinda way. it's like a cross between the a) bingo hall,b) lions club c) hunting lodge and d) (no pun intended) Detroit UAW workers. someone earlier said 20 something's frequent here but not tonight. I am 35 and am the child.
drinks? as my quick tips stated - there's bud "PRODUCTS" on tap, but don't go after the bud draft - it's not there. Â if you want the KING of beers, you better go for the bottle.
Right, so let's get to dinner. Â The wings were something funny like 12 for $8 but 24 for like $18. Â So, my math friends, why wouldn't one just order say - TWO 12'ers and save a few bucks??? Â I'm just saying. Â I didn't go for that though - there was the POOR RICHARDS WING Special. which was...wait for it:
a) Salad (your choice, I had house w/ french dressing, prob pushing it in this part of town)
b) Buffalo WINGS (one flavor only, mild) quantity 12 and
c) Garlic bread WITH cheese on it (and by cheese i mean literally a slice of melted cheese up top, not the shredded stuff.
ALL this  was near $9.  Now the Salad would have been $7ish regular and the wings $8.  Sure more lettuce (iceburg variety BTW) would have, I'm sure, been thrown in, but indeed, it's Iceburg.
The wings were...OK. Â No choice of sauce, not mild but certainly 10 or so nautical miles away from 3 mile island.
Entertainment? Â There IS a couple of vintage video games in the back. Â Go for it. Â Maybe you can get record top dog driving round the cylinder after the bud light. Â I didn't partake. Â Overall, like I said, 2 stars. Â Would I be back? Â Honestly, no, I've seen enough of Fenton for the next 20 years.
I don't know what went wrong with the Eureka location, but this one is still great. I love splitting 50 wings and pitcher with a group of friends and watching whatever sporting event is on TV, it could be curling for all I care, great atmosphere. My wife has gotten the french dip on numerous occasions and says it is great. It's too bad they keep raising their prices or I would come here more.
Review Source:Visiting Fenton for business, we happened upon poor richards. Â After reading the reviwes on yelp, we figured we'd give it a try.
1. Â Great chicken wings. Â Really. Â They some of the best we'd ever had. Â
2. Â While their burgers are supposedly fantastic, after devouring 25 wings, we figured we'd pass on the burger for some lighter fare.. we were not disappointed. Â The hot turkey and the hot ruben were delicious... fries, done well along with the awesome onion rings...
3. Â The beer was plentiful and cold.
So what more do you want for a random Tuesday night. Â Staff was attentive and very friendly, pricing decent and food was really good. Â For a relaxing time, I urge you to try poor richards.. a good time guaranteed...
Poor Richards has always been known for their wings. They are still good and love their burgers! We had stopped going there when they allowed smoking, the smoke was just too thick and you would leave smelling like an ashtray! But now they are smoke free and we spent a pleasant evening enjoying our favorite local wings. In fact, they seem more popular now that's they are smoke free!
Review Source:Ended up here with a group of guys last night to take in the Bruins absolutely dominate Vancouver in the Stanley Cup Finals. Â Since the Cardinals were again getting beaten by Washington, the waitstaff obliged us and we got the benefit of watching the game on two TVs near the bar area. Â Only downside was that they have HD TVs but no HD service. Â
Service was excellent all night and the 9 of us were having a great time. Â Ended up splitting 50 wings with a few of the guys. Â My buddy at work had recommended the wings and while they were good I found them to be a bit on the small side and I just wasn't impressed with them. Â Size does matter when it comes to chicken wings and I felt like I could have easily put down a plate of 25 on my own and still have room left over. Â
Aside from that, it is a nice hole-in-the-wall place to go for a beer. Â They had $5 pitchers and $1 draft specials going during the Cardinals games so even if the Red birds get beat by a AAA squad you can at least drown your sorrows.
This place has the most amazing chicken ceasar salad that i have ever had,i usually order it with a whole egg and it does come with a side of garlic bread, everything is always fresh and i haven't been dissapointed as of yet. it usually does cost me at about $10.00 but i feel it is worth it,and a better tasting salad than a Panera carries.Keep it up Poor Richard's.
Review Source:We went to Poor Richards on a Sunday afternoon.  We've been here before and  just haven't written a review. Â
That Sunday we decided to just sit at the bar. Â Our bartender was very sweet and attentive....wish I knew her name. Â
We started off w/ the toasted mushrooms (nothing special but hot and tasty). Â Hubby ordered the wings and a side salad w/ raspberry dressing and I got a mush. swiss burger. Â The wings here are really good, messy and hot. Â I'm not a wing fan so no opinion but hubby likes them. Â
The burger wasn't really juicy enough for me.....normally I like my mushroom swiss to be really juicy and cheesy and this just didn't do it for me. Â
This is a very friendly bar with a neighborhood feel even though it's in a strip mall. Â Dark and cozy and fine to bring kids to.
High marks for great service!
I've never sat down and ate in here, mainly because I'm not a bar kinda gal. But they have some serious tasty hot wings! I order a batch of 50 wings for about $32...pricey yes, but they're so worth it. Gonna be honest though, never had anything else off their menu and I'm not sure if I'm ready to look past the wings, my eyes just stop at that part on the menu. Maybe one of these days I'll actually sit down and order something else, but till then, just going to enjoy my wings in the comfort of my television.
Review Source:This is a great quick serve reasonable restaurant that happens to have a small bar and about 6 TVs (1 HDTV). Â The staff wear "burgers and beer" shirts and that order seems to be the priority.
Poor Richard's is a great burger, salad and sandwich joint. Â (They do serve a very good boneless and w/ bones wing with just one, tasty, standard sauce) Â The burgers are nice fresh meat juicy 1/4 lb. or 12 oz creations with better buns and with some more interesting toppings. Â I got mine with the steak fries and then saw the sweet potato fries that looked better plus the Philly and that will be my next order.
I have had their very good "sizzling" salads before topped with grilled steak (can come with chicken).
They got a friendly 10 person bar and some TVs plus a few booths. Â The majority of seating, about 20 tables, is plastic cushion chairs under plastic tablecloths. Â This is more of a comfortable place to grab a bite than anything else.
P.E.T.A. I would say are welcome, if that means People Eating Tasty Animals because there is a stuffed bear to welcome you at the door.
There's not a lot of great bars in Fenton. Â It's not that the bars are bad in Fenton, but there's not a huge assortment. Â Generally, you get the same sports bar or random pub in a newly built strip mall with the same mid twenties to mid thirties crowd sipping bud light and munching on spinach artichoke dip.
This place is certainly different. Â It's a bar and burger place. Â I have never had the burgers, but my friends say they are excellent...I will take their word for it. Â Â The prices are are cheap and the atmosphere has more of a local vibe to it than the other places in Fenton. Â It's not shiny and new, but it has a little more edge to it. Â The crowd can be a little older, but there are plenty of early 20's kids slugging back beers as well. Â
It's not quite a dive bar, but it's not quite a pub either. Â It's hard to describe and actually, kind of hard to find since it's buried in a little strip mall on the side of Bowles after you cross over 141. Â Just look down the slope and you'll see it. Â It's certainly welcome diversity in the Fenton bar scene.
