The Pour House has such a special place in my heart. I've seen so many up and coming artists play here that are now GIANT such as bassnectar, emancipator, and big gigantic to name a few. I've also seen much smaller shows such as the quintessential toubab krewe 2 night run. This is the place to go in charleston for your smaller bands that the music farm doesn't suck the life out of and turn into a frat party.
The staff here is A+ unlike the farm. Every staff member is respectful and also enjoying the music. Drinks are pretty cheap (esp the pbr tall boys) and water is left out in coolers so you don't have to flag down a bartender.
The crowds here are a great mix and are people who are really there for the music-not to just be seen wearing neon clothing and throwing glow sticks (music farm cough cough). There is plenty of space to dance around, hang out at the bar, or chill out on the back patio.
The back deck is the best part. Not only do they do live music back there (dead on the deck!!!!) but there is a bar and a lot of seating to rest your dancin feet!
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. September seems to be their big money making month every year and as summer comes it lulls a little bit now that every band has to attend every music festival to be cool.
The Pour House is the place to let your freak flag fly because no one could give a damn!! Soak in all it's awesomeness!!!
Found this online before a trip to Charleston. We made it out for bluegrass on a Thursday. As others say, the beer is reasonably priced, live music is awesome and I think it's every night (free on the back deck).
Must love dogs...people let their dogs roam around on the deck. I loved this and the whole vibe felt like I was hanging out on a friend's back porch with live music. Really laid back chill people (a stark contrast from the social scene downtown!) but much appreciated! I'd be hanging out here a lot if I lived in Charleston.
I promised an update when I checked out The Lot, the Pour House's restaurant. Check out my review of The Lot, but here's a summary: the best pork chop in Charleston, and in a town filled with delicious pork-based options, that's saying something. We loved our meal and the show we later caught at the Pour House.
Review Source:This is a great venue! Â Came here to see Col Bruce Hampton on my b-day and had a blast!!! Even though it was a crowded show we never had to wait long to get a drink and everyone was polite. Â My only complaint is that the restrooms are shared with the connected restaurant and it was a bit shocking to walk out of a jamming show into a quite restaurant were people are dinning to use the john but it was such a small inconvenience that I would never hold it against such a rocking joint, I will be back!
Review Source:Up until recently I would have given the Pour House four stars.  You have the best deck in Charleston.  But the drink prices have increased enormously.  King Street prices on Maybank Hwy?  Did you think we were too drunk to notice?  We weren't.  Now we have to think about coming out.  I do appreciate that you will now wipe off a dirty table instead of handing me the bar rag and the fact that you occasionally come around to collect empty bottles and plates does help to keep the flies away.  $3 PBR  $5 draft  $6 liquor  To quote Seth Meyers - "Really?"
Review Source:I wish I could review this place separately based on music and food.
I'd say, music = 5 stars, food = 1 star.
I giving 4 stars because the place itself sort of makes up for the food.
The musicians they have come in are great; especially when they have their singer/songwriter night. The place itself is a decent space, with a outdoor area and indoor area for music and 2 bars. The drinks are reasonably priced and, again, awesome awesome local music.
However, their food is probably one of the most unfortunate things my stomach has ever had to ingest. Their milanesa tasted like cardboard and their empanadas were so tasteless that they give you 3 packets of dipping sauce (im guessing it just italian dressing? you do the math on how that fares with "cuban" food) for 1 order of empanadas. I'll most definitely never eat there again, but will just as definitely go there again to drink and go see a great local show.
The disadvantages of a rectangular concert venue were highlighted by the Prefuse 73 show I went to, but I won't blame the place. The band spit psychofunky electronica squeals and beats and the higher frequencies condensed in the middle of the square room to try and blow out my ears. Regardless, I still managed to dance my ass off with a surprisingly hip crowd, down a beer from an expansive variety (both draught and bottled), and explore some sweet local art on the well-constructed back deck. All in all, a bangin place. If I lived here, I'd go there.
Review Source:Saw Tim Reynolds and it was my first time at the Pour House. Overall I was impressed. They have a great back deck with an outdoor bar and outdoor deck for smaller acts which is nice. The venue itself is small but I see that as a good thing as it makes for a more intimate show. My only complaint is that they definitely over sold the TR3 show so it was jam packed. What can you do though? I'd rather be stuck in a room packed full of Tim fans than packed in a room with most other people.
Review Source:Imagine my surprise when my favorite band from SF (Tea Leaf Green) Â showed up at a venue on James Island. Proof that Pour House has great national bands come through. The music sounds great in there and the bartenders are rock-stars themselves. I rarely wait for drinks even with a full house. This venue also draws a diverse, chill crowd. Anyone over The Music Farm should give Pour House a shot.
