Cover depends on who's playing.  I will always show if Superlicious is playing!  Be careful with your drinks, Ladies; there have been several instances of drinks being drugged and one in which a woman was rapped.  Sadly, no one seems intent on doing anything about it, so stick together.  Other than that, I love the options in bars and atmospheres.  I love that you can escape outside for a bit when you get too hot.  I also love the decor of the place.  Check it out...especially if you love 80's music and Superlicious is ROCKIN' away the night!!

I probably gave it 5 stars because I'm from Stockton and you won't find anything like Powerhouse Pub and Scarlett's here. Loved the band Spazmaticks and the choice of the live band at Powerhouse or a DJ at Scarlett's. I will have to say the stand out of the evening was Joel, the bartender behind the Scarlett's bar. My boyfriend spoke highly of him and his bar tending skills and he couldnt have been more right. Joel had personality, speed, and an amazing memory, keeping all the customers in order and seemed to not forget anyone's drink order if they came up twice. Looking forward to going again.

Powerhouse has a cozy and welcoming layout. It's nondescript entrance leads you into an underground haven with two bars, a little patio and a hallway that leads to another bar. I came here to watch Zeperella, the worlds most amazing Zeppelin cover band, and my friends and I found the perfect vantage point from the balcony right over the stage.

The acoustics were rich, the beer was flowing and the band was on fire. It did get hot up in the rafters, and this was only countered by a half-ass air conditioning system that kicked on part way through the show. Besides that, I have no complaints and only look forward to more great concerts here in the future.

Trouble is, I live downtown. If only it weren't in Folsom...

I love coming to Powerhouse.  It is always such a great time.  I love the diversity of the nights of the week.  The only downside is that there is a cover....but it does get you into both Powerhouse and Scarletts.  I love how there are a few different bars to get your drinks from which makes it easy.  There is also a huge outdoor patio to go out on.  The drinks are always good and they arent too expensive. I have never had issues with people fighting as i have seen in so many other bars.  The dance floor is kind of small and can get very full but everyone is pretty friendly and it doesnt seem to be an issue.

    I love the Powerhouse!

They have a funky decor. Decent prices on drinks. Good music (lots of variety). Both inside and outside seating/bar area so you can still talk if the music's loud inside. Good, large dance floor. And always a friendly crowd.

Great place for a birthday party. Took my wife and some friends to celebrate her birthday. Got a table saved for us. Had a nice waitress getting us drinks. Dancing, cover band, strong drinks, cigar bar outside, and last but not least a couple having sex upstairs....nice.
Will definitely go back! Thanks PHP

Two of my best girlfriends and I went here on a recent Friday night.  It was packed full of people and there was not much room to move around.  Not good for someone with claustrophobia.  The music was okay, the margaritas were really good.  We people watched and had a few drinks before going to Hacienda del Rio.  The women's restroom wasn't too clean, which is usually a bad sign.

The karaoke representative, though nice, sings too much himself (one time...two in a row!) and then plays too many filler songs while people wait to sing. He does have a good catalogue of songs but waiting for him to smoke or just walk around when he could be accommodating a singer is annoying. I've been doing karaoke for years. YEARS. I've never seen a KJ sing so many songs himself and/or waste time. There were glares from almost all the female singers waiting to sing last night. It was almost laughable but mostly frustrating.

Its always a good time here whenever tainted love, wonderbread 5 or the spazmatics play here.

The place is usually packed with people but there is plenty of room to move around and if it gest too packed its connected to scarletts and you can get a drink there.

I've only been there on a Friday or Saturday so my reviews are only based on the fact that everytime I've been there a band has been playing.

Did security for this club, buy never kicked it there but for the most it's a really cool club, especially on Tuesdays, it's usually packed but there alot of room to walk arou
nd including a outside patio, a dance room with a bar and a whole mother room for entertainment, it can get rowdy sometimes but it's worth going out too

Not really my scene, but decent enough for the area. Located at the far end of Sutter Street close to Chicago Fire Pizza, there are bands that play here and a small dance floor.

The eclectic interior has seen better days and there are two restroom areas. One is absolutely disgusting -- it is shared with Scarlet's next door. The other is slightly better, but not enough stalls in my opinion.

Like Scarlet's, there is a phone that calls Chicago Fire next door. You can order pizza and someone will deliver to the bar for you.

Last time I was here, the band was sooo loud, that I stuffed bits of napkin in my ears to block out the noise, realized that I looked like a freak and then left.

I am new to Sacramento so just starting nightclubs scene here. As compared to San diego, they are pretty bad.

    Pros:
    Drinks not costly.
Staff is good. Bartenders do some fire tricks too.
    Sitting space on patio.
DJ is ok. Not much of a pro.

    Cons:
Very very small dance floor. Definitely doesn't qualify for dance club.
    Toilets not good.
    Not much of good chicks.

5 stars for drink quality (cheap, stiff drinks!)
1 star for quality of atmosphere (can someone say "hand sanitizer??")..even the bartender makes me feel like I need to take a shower (lol) but if you want that "dive bar" kind of place with good, hard drinks..this is the place to go=)
P.S. They also have live music, with crazy expensive cover charges ($12 to see a crappy country western band is just silly..)

I come here fairly often for various live music acts that play on the weekends.  Powerhouse Pub is located in the heart of old Folsom and is a fun venue for live music.  The dance floor is a bit on the small side and it will get absolutely packed on a busy night.  But the vibe is always enjoyable.

The decor is a bit jumbled to say the least.  There are 2 different bars inside with another bar on the patio that's open during the warmer months.  There are also servers that roam the floor to get you drinks.  So staying "hydrated" is never much of a problem here.  The drink prices aren't the best, but they aren't out of line either.  The staff is personable and helpful whenever needed.

If you need a break from live music and just want to dance to some hip hop/R&B you can walk down the hallway to Scarlet's.  It's a change of pace to be sure, but there are ALWAYS people dancing here.  There is also another bar in Scarlet's so you don't have to worry about getting too thirsty.

Over all, it's a fun venue with an interesting clientele.  Come out and see for yourself.  If you come out on a Friday or Saturday night you're almost sure to catch some of the better bands from our area.

I am a big fan of the Powerhouse because it is a good venue for live music.  I have been here several times to see a few different bands.  There are several bars, a friendly, if not speedy wait staff, and a connecting hallway to Scarlett's next door for DJ dancing.  My favorite thing is the outdoor patio area (when it's not too smoky).  The ambiance is fun and the crowd is generally laid back (20s to 40s).

Now the bad stuff.  The dance floor is way too small for the number of people they let in.  After a few hours of drinking, the pushing and shoving starts and gets obnoxious.  The bathrooms plug up quickly on a busy night and stink really bad - I think some plumbing upgrades are in order.  The cover is high when a popular band is playing.

That said, I still enjoy going!   I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun night out!

This place was happenin! Had a great time. Had two areas, one with a live band playing covers which was awesome and a DJ playing dance music. Lots of room, a good variety of people, and a total party atmosphere. Come here if you want to let loose and have a good time. Was pretty dead until about 9:00pm ten picked up quickly.
The building says Scarletts so it was a little confusing at first to find it.

The dude and I came here last night to see Train Town Trav singing Hank Williams, Sr. and I was delighted that we were still able to catch Autumn Sky's set even though we arrived a bit late.  Both sounded amazing, and I'm really looking forward to seeing more!

It's a decent place to watch live bands/musicians.  The acoustics are pretty good, there is a spacious 'dance' floor, and there is tons of seating.  Bonus points because the women's bathroom has three, THREE!!!, stalls.  Woo hoo!

The crowd is quite mixed, which is cool.  Cocktails are a bit pricey, but the ones I got were plenty strong.  It's been a while since I've been here but my experiences have been on weekends and it gets really crowded and loud.  On a Wednesday night though, it's very laid back and chill which we liked a lot.

My only gripes are the disgustingly sticky tables outside, and this one show light in the main stage area.  Damn thing beamed right into your eyes while watching the bands and it even flashed in time to the music.  Don't sit at the end of bar near the bathrooms unless you want to feel like there is a spike piercing your brain.  It was horribly annoying!

Noisy, smelly, sticky floors and extremely dirty furniture, replete with cigarette burns and unidentifiable liquid stains. And that was on a Tuesday night.

It's a bar, plain and simple. Tiki theme on the patio, little walk-around to a small  bar (Scarletts?) that was brimming with guidos, bros, and the subsequent womenfolk who accompany them. Pictures line the walls covered by plexiglass, and at the front entrance to the pub there's a booth where you can take a photo and upload it to Facebook.

Drinks were strong, but kinda pricey.

I suppose if you're really into bars this place is okay, or if you are having a night out with friends. It having been my first bar experience, I will not go back of my own accord.

My dad and his siblings are all musicians.  A couple of them have had successful musical careers and the others now play mainly for fun with their old friends.  No matter the level of success, one of the places they all got their start was the Sutter Street Saloon, now known as Powerhouse Pub.

So now when we have our yearly family get together some of them like to check out the pub and see if there is any good music playing.  My latest trip to Powerhouse was one of those times.  It went something like this:

Standing on the patio and having some guy shouting profanity laced compliments at me is one thing.  Standing on the patio and having some guy shouting profanity laced compliments at me while I am with my DAD is something else.  Eeeeep!  So I run inside to where everyone is packed like sardines in the area surrounding the stage.  A live band is playing.  Oh, there's my auntie, dancing.  Shake, shake, shake my groove thang... hmm.  I hear Lucy Ricardo's voice in my head saying "The sardines were better off. They got all that oil to wiggle around in."  Back over to dad.  "It seems a lot smaller in here now."  I say to him.  "Really?  It's always been small" is his reply.

The crowd is a mixture of people from all walks of life and age groups.  Most of them are nice enough, but you do get your share of stupid drunks.  It's great for live music across different genres.  The drinks, like most bars/clubs, depend on the bartender.  The decor is a lot more interesting than it was way back a long time ago (I'm not THAT old, I am basing this off old family photos), sort of kitsch.  If you don't mind the lack of personal space, it's not a bad place to hear some music and grab a drink.

I hereby dub this the Bar of a Million Balconies.

That is probably my favorite part about this place: the ability to wander from balcony to balcony, essentially; when it gets packed in there, it gets pretty easy to avoid someone (also, lose them), so the set-up reminds me more of a club, considering the excellent dancefloor space, but it's got a divebar feel (if not exactly divebar prices).

And every they have a free Wednesday night concert series! Saw my lovely, Autumn Sky, here, a most excellent show... they usually seem to have lame-ass cover bands though, but keep checking back (it's not like this year's lineup for Concerts in the Park downtown is that hot either...)

The bathroom is disgusting. Avoid at all costs. Get stamped. You can also slip down the hallway to Scarlet's, but it's not really that impressive--or necessary.

I am just in love with the architecture of this place; seriously, you could do a lot worse for a hangout in old town Folsom. :)

I came here with a friend for dancing and to see my favorite cover band Tainted Love! They always do an awesome show!

Powerhouse Pub is nice space. I actually liked the place even though the place is big, the space feels a little cramped. Nice eclectic crowd--- I saw a great mix of people and different age ranges. That was very cool. I also like the huge patio space that connects to the other bar Scarlet's which played pretty good dance music. This place was different from my normal places on the grid but I really enjoyed it and I will be back for more bands and dancing.

Live band playing 80's music was kind of cool. The place is done up with eclectic little junk here and there but interesting to look at. I've been here 2 times and both times had an OK time. The drinks are a bit on the pricey side and it gets extremely crowded here. People from all walks of life which is interesting yet some walk the life I am not interested in interacting with. As with any other little pub, you have the thugs, the nice guys and the ones that try to smother. The dance floor gets really crowded and I feel it's a lot more fun to watch people dancing from upstairs than getting elbowed by the girl that is going to give you attitude if you say something because that was her agenda.

I have mixed feelings about this place because I steer clear from the stuff I don't like, get my drink on and have fun with the people in my company but knowing that upon leaving there will be a fight in the parking lot is not my idea of fun. The 2 times I was there major fights broke out, cops, traffic jam, and some "poor" guy getting his drunk butt whooped. So although I have a good time inside, I dread leaving and it's not because the place is all that fantastic.

Powerhouse Pub was waaaaay cooler when I was in my early 20s. Or maybe it wasn't, but I just thought it was.  Tuesday nights are decent if you can brave the broseph crowd because there is no cover.  However, the drunk men get PRETTY irritating... it amuses me that they either don't notice the diamond ring on my left hand or they are just class-less and don't care. Whatever, 1 start for flattery.

I also went this past Saturday for a friends birthday-- his buddy's band was playing there.  The $10 cover isn't too attractive, but  I like that there is plenty of seating and cocktail waitresses floating around offering to refill your drink.  There are two bars, and some pool tables.  It's a pretty chill atmosphere when it's not absolutely slammed and you can breathe :)

    Strutin' my Stuff Y'all!
The Powerhouse has great live music and features the likes of Elvin Bishop and John Lee Hooker Jr. a couple times a year. Even their less notable bands are really good. I like Sunday afternoons because the crowd is pretty thin and  there's plenty of room to dance.
Just the normal drink selections with a couple of beers on tap.
The Powerhouse is a place for dancing!

Just got back from this place, and LOOOVED it! Went for the Open Blues Jam, which is great for musicians....they have a house band, but you can sign up to sit in and jam, just for fun! That's what I did and it was a great time. If you don't play, it would be equally fun just to watch (which many people did).

What I love about this place is the quirky, super mixed bag decor.  I was told the place has been there FOREVER, and the decorations definitely show that.... Although I was a little freaked out by the pirate statue by the front door, once I got inside I loved how there are lots of random light fixtures, signs on the walls, a horse from a carousel hangs from the ceiling above the stage, and various other random objects all around the room...I'm pretty sure I'll see something new every time I go in, which I like! Very interesting place. Also, seems like the kind of place ANYONE can go and enjoy, no one is going to look at you funny if you are dressed any particular way. Some people were dressed up, some people were dressed down, and it was all good. Mixed decor, mixed people...very chill!

Will definitely go back to catch live music again, as people have said before me the sound is somehow very good in there. Great place, go check it out!

On occasion I have frequented the powerhouse, and since I'm a cheapskate, I usually enter before 8pm. That way I can avoid cover charge and buy a pitcher instead!

The Red phone is awesome, you can call in your order to Chicagos and have it delivered and pay for it at your table. Scarlets which is attached to Powerhouse is a more chill bar, whereas the Powerhouse is where all the action is at.

It always seems to be busy on weekends and I enjoy going to see Spazmatics Led Zeppagain, Tainted Love, Wonderbread 5.

The atmosphere is definitely a pub atmosphere, it is usually packed, rubbing shoulder to shoulder to move around. The bathrooms aren't the nicest. Bartenders have been good with the drinks, and the waitresses make it easy to get your drinks.

One thing... if you're done with your drink, hold on to your glass it otherwise they'll take your glass away.

The Go-go dancers, wet t-shirt contests and Country night make this place such a diverse venue... Any day of the week there's something good going on at the Powerhouse.

    Love it!

Coming here is definitely not going to help me age gracefully. My visits are a bit limited, but they have taught me that there is a time when even cougars may need to be placed in captivity. With age comes experience, but some experiences are best discovered elsewhere.

Over all the bar and venue is decent. The live music, outdoor patio, and surrounding area gives you several different options of what to do all in one place. The place gets pretty packed during the weekends, sometimes too much for comfort. I do feel it has lost a lot of it's appeal over the last couple of years. It seems the crowd is either becoming less fun due to age, or the ambiance just isn't as fun as it used to be. It seems there are more of your male douche's present and women who not only feel comfortable letting themselves go, but showing it too.

Not a bad place over all, but not a place most people would go to on a regular basis either.

I need to start this review out with a BIG ARSE DISCLAIMER!!!  Mattee is from The Grid.  It sometimes takes a ton of debating to venture out of the afore-mentioned Grid (I'm a master debater).  Usually, promises of a ride and free brews will do it.  Let's face it folks, living in the Grid can spoil a man.  I'm always within walking distance of a frosty adult beverage, and $30 can easily get you trashed for the night.  One thing the Grid has been missing in recent years are good **venues for our up and coming artists.  This is where the Powerhouse Pub gets my props!

I've gone two times now.  Both times for the free show Wednesdays.  The way the place is set up allows for plenty of open space to enjoy the show and still has plenty of seats for taking a load off.  Although only the front bar was open when I visited, there are multiple bars (4 more I think) all located in key locations so you're never too far from some refreshments.  Here's where me being spoiled comes into play.  I'm not used to payin out $4 for a budweiser.  After my standard buck a beer rule, that's 5 bucks a pop.  I was hoping for a cheaper alternative (PBR?  Oly?) but couldn't find one that sounded good.  In the Grid my selections are $2 Oly's, $2.50 buds, or $4 PBR tall boys.  I TOLD YOU I WAS SPOILED!!!  I'm also a positive person.  The positive I see here is that it's cheaper than the $9 budweiser I bought at the Bellagio in Vegas.  Haha!

So, the inside decore reminds me of a high-end dive bar.  But, the back patio will make you want to drink rum and hula till you're three sheets to the wind!  From the wooden planks to the thatching (I don't really know what thatching is), it's completely a Tiki-Pirate theme.  If only my back porch was that awesome...

I actually really liked this place and plan on returning (pending a ride and maybe a couch to crash on).  The decore and free show Wednesdays totally makes up for the price of my booze.  The only thing I'd change about the Powerhouse is to relocate it to the Grid in all it's entirety.  Preferably next door to my house.  Or, just let me move in...

**Don't get me wrong though, the Grid still has it's venues.  Just not as many selections as we used to have.  SUPPORT YOU LOCAL BANDS AND VENUES!!!

Seriously this was a cool place to go like 3 years ago .  the douches have infiltrated as well as the thuglife  mothafuckas .

let alone no hats , and insanely overcrowded , have fun walking around in there , or waiting 5-20 minutes to get a drink that'll probably end up being made wrong .

if you're gonna go stay on the patio and order from the patio bar .

Good place to dance, as long as you LOOOOOOOOOOVE  the Pogo! Always overpacked and the dance floor is like a sardine can.

Not sure how it stays on the hill? It looks like it was patched together with shoestrings, bubblebum and duct tape.

On the positive side, they do get some good bands and it is reasonably priced.

The Powerhouse is an awful nightspot. Its not the worst place in the world for a show, but for drinking on a weekend night I think I would rather punch myself in the eye than go to Powerhouse.

The other reviewers here have kinda covered it (high-five team), but it pretty much comes down to mediocre beer selection, stench, and the broiest bros this side of Broapolis. I guess if you are really into flatbilled hats and lifted trucks, then you probably feel that this is the greatest venue since Tommy Lee's dick, but I cant stand this place... especially when there are both better classy places (Manderes) and dives (Jaegs) right there.

    The Good:
    1) On a beautiful day, the outside wrap-around deck that's covered in flora (both real and fake) and fauna (all fake) is the perfect venue for an afternoon pint w/ the college buds.
    2) The pizza joint 2 doors down will deliver some pretty amazing deep-dish goodness right to your table at the bar. Beer and pizza on a warm afternoon? What could be better?
    3) I come from SF, so paying $3.50 for a beer is a refreshing, and even serendipitous event.

    The Bad:
    1) Perhaps it would behoove this fine establishment to offer a wider array of beers on-tap. I've been down the street to Yaeger's, and they have a super huge collection of amazing beer on tap.
    2) Like most pubs, the spilled and stale beer smell mixes w/ the remnants of the sweaty man. Admittedly I was a little sensitive to smell when I entered, so this may be skewing my review. But in general, the beer/sweat smell is not always an enjoyed phenomenon.

    The Ugly:
    1) Have you ever wondered what it would be like to pee w/ Jim Morrison watching you? Well if so, wonder no longer. In the large stall of the women's restroom, there is a GIANT painting of Jim Morrison on the wall. He stares at you in his famous, shirtless glory as you try in earnest to pee as fast as you can so as to escape his scrutiny from beyond the grave.

Didn't think much of this place the first time I went, but it was the middle of the day during the Light Rail Pub Crawl.  It was only during my return visit to see The Saddle Tramps play live here, that I came to appreciate what a great little bar and music venue this place is.  Acoustics are great, drinks are reasonable and there's plenty of kitschy bar clutter on all of the walls including a giant stuffed hippopotamus head!

I had seen The Saddle Tramps perform their particular brand of "cowpunk" or "trailer trash rock" before at a pool party at the Sands Hotel in Reno.  They rocked the house then and they rocked the house this time.  I was eagerly anticipating their classics such as "Momma Was a Flagger" and "You Put the Cunt in Country", but happily discovered some a new favorite when they sang "The Bulge in Satan's Pants".  During a break, some members of the band hit the smoking balcony/patio and I asked if I might be lucky enough to hear them play "Fortune Cookie Nookie".  Only in a venue like this can you hang out and chat with the band and even have your requests noted.

All that being said, I highly recommend catching some live entertainment at this great little party spot in Old Town Folsom.  And you can get pizza from Chicago Fire brought over to eat here... good deep dish pizza makes for happy drunks!

Thank you Powerhouse for letting me finally see AC/DShe this summer (and yes, they r-o-c-k)!  Previously, all of my other attempts to see one of the world's most awesome all girl cover bands had fallen through.  Finally the curse was lifted.

The Powerhouse Pub proved to be a choice venue with a mixed crowd. Good sized dance floor with plenty of room to bop around without doing a sardine impression.  It has a great bar, old-timey roadhouse decor (Patrick Swayze eat your heart out!), huge flat panel TVs, large patio area, and parlor games for all to play.  It's in historic Old Folsom and just three blocks from the yellow light rail stop.  Prime for a boozey night out on the town.

I wouldn't pay a cover to get in for unknown bands but I will checkout their karaoke nights (Monday?) if gratis and will return again if a worthy band comes-a-calling.

So this place totally bums me out cuz the last like seriously THREE times I've tried to go here, there's been a shitty cover of like $10 to see some shitty band. No thank you!

But the times I actually  have gone here have been pretty chill.  The back patio is pretty much the shit, with heat lamps and clean surrounding and green foliage.  There's free popcorn inside and ample seating, along with huuuuge tv screens showing local sports and vh1.  There's an upstairs if you want a bit more privacy.  I had pretty decent bloody marys here on a few occasions.  Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure I remember there being a phone where one can dial the pizza place down the street for a delivery.  That's awesome, right?

Avoid the cover dudes, it won't be worth.  Come here on a quiet night with some bros.

    It is ok
