Sometimes dining out for us can be an ordeal of one sort or another. We could go very local, but then we run into people we know who either own the business where we would eat or the patrons are people we see often. Sometimes I prefer to be anti-social and anonymous and instead focus my energies on my favorite dining companion, The L.
With this in mind and a suggestion from a friend, K., we booked a table via the yelp app/open table reservation system for The Quiet Man Public House with hopes of a couple of pints of Guinness and some tasty fish & chips, The L.'s favorite when done well. After finding some easily available street parking we headed in. I had expected nothing but and was happily surprised. The decor was lovely but the Bar, where one enters, was fab with LED lighting changing colors cyclically and reflecting off the mirrors imparting the bar area with a non-pubby feel. Felt more loungey. Loved its cheeriness.
We were offered a table in the way back near the kitchen which was not acceptable. They were not that crowded and we did make a res, and one through yelp, so we were a little surprised they would have chosen that undesirable location for us. We gently pointed out the error of their ways ("No one puts Baby in the corner") and were offered a table in the front which was much better and gave us the views of other patrons, street activity and offered the intimacy we desired on our date night. Who wants to sit next to a kitchen door? Not I... Ugh!
We ordered our two pints of Guinness draughts, nothing beats them, and put in the rest of our order. The L. ordered the crabmeat stuffed mushrooms while I just stuck to my main, the fish & chips. I tried a bite of the mushroom with its hollandaise sauce. Not my favorite flavor, very salty and the texture I did not care for. Not bad but not great. Just not my cup of tea. What was great? The fish with the fish & chips. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked, not greasy, just the right size and I would have been happy with just the fish. The chips -fries- were most likely previously frozen and brought the dish down. Making fries is not that challenging. I wish more places would take the trouble to carve up some fresh crisp spuds as the difference is vastly better and very obvious. It's the little things that can have a huge impact especially when it is so integral to the dish and not a side thought.
So for TQM, it is 3 stars in a good way. The service was very attentive and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. Had those fries been hand cut in house, this review would easily have been **** stars. Easily. Hope springs eternal! :))) I would return though for the cold Guinness, attentive friendly service and the fish but sans those chips.
So now is not even close to New Year's Day. It is still a pretty ditty. Enjoy. Almost went to the parade in Philly... Once.

If not for the friends who make any outing pleasurable, I would have had to give QM a 1!
At the request of a more than Irish co-worker, we headed to QM for an "Irish" Brunch.
Cost of said Brunch....$21.95 Â per person.
The buffet held few choices...all of which were scarce in supply as  well as more than half being cold. And NO EGGS at all! Brunch???? Our options included some Irish sausage (eh), potatoe wedges (cold), rice (?) and seasoned small shrimp ( tasty but odd b'fast item), bacon (again cold and chewy), blood pudding (not a fan), and a few miniscule wedges of french toast...but no syrups to be seen.
The ?brunch? included Mimosas and Bloody Marys...but don't ask for tea, coffee or ice tea as it is a XTRA charge (?).
Our waitress was delightful and attentive....but in the end I left hungry....minus some cash better spent at McDonalds.
High end pub food along the lines of Irish Gastro Pub - if such a thing exists. Was impressed with all the food! My husband had the steak which was quite delicious. Now... I had the Guiness muscles - OMG! SOOOO delicious!!! Loved the ambiance, music, and company. I highly recommend it, and will be back next time I am up in the Peekskill area.
Review Source:Sat at the bar last Sunday afternoon. Â Good selection of tap beers. Â Bartenders are gracious and quick to offer a sample if you're undecided. Â Ended up with a UFO and Blue Moon Winter. Â Both were great. Â We also had the app specials, wings (med hot) and the mussels with a Guiness butter sauce which were half off. Â
The wings were fine, nice and meaty and spiced appropriately but those mussels were maybe, just maybe the best mussels I've ever eaten (and I've eaten them in many place in many countries). Â They were something you'd expect out of an upscale kitchen for sure not a pub. Â
There were also some interesting specials we didn't get a chance to try and a lamb burger on the menu which signaled to me they have bigger aspirations then just a burger and fish and chips pub. Â Either way we'll go back for mussels. Â
We really liked the vibe of this place too. Â It looks new and attention was put into the decore to make it look like a classic pub. Â The wood work was especially nice.
Average bar food at best. Servers try hard, but responsiveness is spotty. They seem understaffed.
The bar area does not have a good vibe and who's idea was it to put up those silly dividers and break up the sight line. If I want privacy I don't go to a bar -- stay home or get a booth.
The Quiet Man is a gem in the heart of downtown Peekskill. The bartenders are friendly and attentive, service is similarly dutiful, if sometimes slow.
The menu features familiar bar/pub favorites, including hamburgers, sandwiches and soups. The specials may include a delicious lamb meatloaf with HP & Guinness sauce that had me licking the plate. Guinness is on tap and served properly.
The Quiet Man features live music on weekends, and hosts trivia regularly. This is definitely a neighborhood pub that should become one's "local."
Returned for lunch.
Most enjoyable appetizer: Â corned beef and sauerkraut spring rolls with mustard dipping sauce. Unique and tasty.
Steve, a new bartender, adds to the friendly atmosphere. Good selection of brewskies on tap including Captain Lawrence.
$1 beer discount at happy hour. Closed Mondays.
Quiet Man is a fine addition to downtown Peekskill
As a recent addition to the newly developing nightlife within the two square blocks of Peekskill's "downtown" (with the exception of the Brewery down on the riverfront)...the Quiet Man is a great place to either grab a pint of Guiness on a Tuesday afternoon with some friends or get sloppy drunk with more than one pint of Guiness on a Saturday evening with the same, said friends. Â The bar is a tad bit small for my liking but, hey, it creates a more intimate atmosphere with the other intoxicated patrons around you, right? Â
I must say the back outdoor patio space is my favorite area in the pub. Â There are wrought-iron tables with umbrellas, stringed lights for the evening and this all sits within what appears to have been once the inside of the back building. Â However now all that stands are the three walls (with the shells of what once were windows), leaving the ceiling open to soak up some sun or stargaze all while still drinking your pint(s).
Food? I have not eaten there as of yet, however I have heard from family and friends that the food is very good however a tad bit overpriced.
Oh! And I should not forget the lovely tap table that you can pay for on spot or rent out for a group. Â This magical table allows you and your nearest and dearest to have full access to two taps in the center of your very own round table at the front of the bar. Â You can either pay a certain amount ahead of time; or the taps can measure how much you and your cohort pour in total, throughout the evening, so you pay per how many ounces are missing. Â I would suggest going with the former as it limits the amount you "think" you want to drink in an evening, and if you have friends like mine you will understand why this is a good idea.
Overall, I am a fan of the place and when I am looking for a fun night out not too far from homebase, this is where I go.
The Quiet Man is a welcome addition to the Peekskill dining scene, from its carefully decorated interior, to great beer selection, to delicious food. Â My family and I were seated at the high, medieval-looking table near the back of the restaurant, and ordered a variety of dishes, all of which were heavenly. Â
The carrot ginger soup was a winner--super gingery and flavorful, it warms you up from the inside out.
The potato leek soup was a bit gelatinous and would probably have been tastier served hot, but was a minor blip in the food.
The salad with the deep fried goatcheese medallion...wow. Â Deep fried goatcheese should come with every meal I eat. Â
My shepherd's pie was delicious and so filling, and I really loved the combination of lamb and beef. Â
Salted caramel and chocolate gelato--just do it. Â
And finally, the key lime pie--WOW. Â So amazingly good. Â
I can't wait to go back!
I gave it three stars for the atmosphere and beer selection, it is gorgeous in there!!
Zero stars for the food.  My family went there and we ordered an Irish version of potato skins, which was okay. We all decided to get the fish n chips which was horrendous, it is made with Bassa fish, a farm raised fish from the Far  East. The waitress didn't know anything about the fish and the chef only knew the name of the fish used but told the waitress its a cold water fish. For almost $20.00 per plate, I wasn't happy that they charged so much for a cheap fish so I called the manager the next day because I was still upset about it. I didn't want anything at all but just to give them some feedback about the wait for the food and the quality we received.  He argued with me because its their best selling item and no one has ever complained about it before. Turns out he doesn't even like fish and chips and know what fish you typically use to make it!  I know its mainly a British food but still, I would be embarrassed to have served that.
The manager offered to buy me a drink the next time I come in. I thanked him for the offer but told him I won't return not even for a free drink.
It's a good place for drinks after work or just to hang out and nibble on bar food. I also wish they had more beer on tap. They haven't even completed their website and its been at least  year since I last checked it, wondering if things changed.
I much rather go up the street where they have a great beer selection and the food is amazing.
ok the food at this place is very good there is no question about that.
first time i was there  i was not able to get a table it was very busy and i did not want to wait for 30 min to eat so we went someplace else. next time we went we had to fight our way through a crowed bar to the back of the room to get to the dining room.
so i have to say i dont like the lay out of the place. i had to push through the crowed my girl was getting pushed around and possibly groped as she pushed her way through. when we got to the dinning room at least 4 staff walked past us none of them said hi or be right with you or anything. it was very busy but thats no excuss for poor service. i can go anyplace i want to eat and i picked this place to spend my hard earned money. all i want is a little respect and service. we stood there for almost 10 min(yes i was looking at my watch) as i loudly said lets go someplace else one of the stafff ran over and greeted us. we sat down and from that point the place was great. i really did not want to like the food as much as i did because i was already annoyed but when something is good i have to say the truth. the food was very good and well enjoyed. they were very busy but the food came in reasonable time considering how buys it was. now the 100,000 question....will i return. i have to say i think i will maybe call ahead or go on a weekday when it is less of a crowd. i hope the owners can fix some of the service problems as this is the only down side. onec again i must say i did enjoy the food.
Their buffalo wings are my go-to (amazingly done!), though my girlfriend feels that even their spiciest kind are still somewhat mild; their beer selection isn't bad, but I wish they had a better IPA than Harpoon. The staff are rather friendly, and while on Friday night, the place is anything but "quiet", it's still classy. I love the Sunday daytime atmosphere when it's nice and quiet.
Review Source:I had the exact same experience as the other reviewer where the once you are able to get their food is really good but the chaos you have to endure to get there just isn't worth it.
We went on a Thursday night and it was busy but nothing crazy. They said it would be 20-30 min wait and after an hour they finally gave us a table after two other couples who showed up after us with no reservations and seemed to be friends with the hostess were seated ahead of us. Once we were seated it was obvious that the wait staff is really inexperienced with little or no training as the wrong food kept showing up at our table, three different waitresses tried to wait on us, we got the bill for a different table before we got our food and we sat with empty drink glasses for most of the meal. If they could get someone in there who knows how to run a restaurant this place could be really incredible but until then bring a lot of patience and be prepared to wait.
Food is good if you can get a seat and have a lot of time to wait for it. I've been twice. once was packed and i anticipated a wait. no big deal, hostess said 20-30 min wait. after 45 min, we lucked out and a few seats opened up at the bar and we ate there instead. second time  we made reservations. we were seated quickly, but the food for 4 took over an hour to get to our table. i'm hoping this is a management issue and they work out all the kinks.
