Hi, my friend and I were hiking in Cold Spring yesterday and afterward decided to come back to Foodies for a Margherita pie. To our delight, the building is now re-painted sunshine yellow with purple accents. Only the color-blind could miss it! We went inside and Bret was there. He remembered us and told us that my review inspired them to paint the building!
We were glad to see that everything else was the same. By the way, the pie was excellent with a thin, crunchy crust and fresh tasting tomatoes. I could have eaten the whole thing myself. It came with a free wings special. My friend consumed the wings which meant more pizza for me!
I really try hard not to be a cranky eater, but...apparently over the holiday weekend every last one of the regular staff took off...the temp hires were nice (well one of the two didn't speak English, so I'm making an assumption there) but not knowledgeable about the menu or really well versed in food prep, it seemed...?
When I first looked at the creative and interesting menu, I wanted to try something like a specialty salad, the risotto balls, their baked chicken wings, a homemade soup, or one of the other house-made specials, as there were many items that seemed tasty...
BUT, wanting not to get myself in over my culinary head, I stuck to one slice of veggie and breaded chicken pizza, majorly motivated to do so by the staffing situation. S/O got a cheese steak sandwich with jalapeños. Both were edible, but so incredibly far off from what I expected when I rolled into a place called "Foodies."
Note to management- use your regular folks, or better yet, yourselves...and when you/they aren't available, just close for a day. It's a local joint, you really can take the liberty to do that now and then...I'd rather come by and be disappointed the place was closed rather than be underwhelmed by a place that everyone else raves about.
UPDATE: My S/O went back here for dinner on a REGULAR, non-holiday weekday when he was traveling for work in the West Point area. He said, "The food was just as good, if not better, but if you can believe this, the service was actually worse."
Who woulda thunkit?
