If I could give negative stars I would. Â We went for Sunday Brunch. My DH has fond memories of going here as a child. Â
The place has ad a nice make over, the addition of an inn and spa... All seemed promising.
When we looked at the brunch it looked disappointing... As in the food had been sitting out for a LONG time. Â So we ordered off the menu.
I had the worst omelette of my life... Way over cooked and the English muffin wasn't toasted. Â The coffee gets cold in two minutes, slow on refills.
My DH grilled sandwich was ice cold, and the cheese hadn't melted.
The prices are pretty high, and everything is a la carte. Ordering an omelette is just that... Toast, home fries... All extra.
The service was very polite and friendly. They credited our bill for my meal.
Need a new chef!
I feel bad that the other reviewers of this restaurant had such a bad experience. Â My husband and my friend went here for brunch today and we really liked the place. Â We came at 11:00 am, which is a great time to come as they weren't too busy yet. Â The only thing that kind of sucks is you have to pay $8 for parking, but the lot is large and we were able to find a good space.
The only thing I would recommend to the Inn and/or park is to put better signs indicating the restaurants inside of the Inn. Â We accidentally went up the hill to the Overlook Lodge thinking the restaurant was in there, when actually it is in the Bear Mountain Inn. Â
We got a nice table facing one of the mountains, but it would have been nice to get a table overlooking the lawn instead of the parking lot. Â Maybe next time we will put in a special request, if they take reservations (not sure if they do) to get a table overlooking the lawn.
The inside of the restaurant is beautiful. Â It is all warm dark wood walls and high ceilings and gorgeous wood floors. Â There is a big beautiful stone fireplace on the far wall of the restaurant, and the restaurant itself is on the second floor of Bear Mountain Inn looking over the large lawn and the mountains.
Our waitress, Rose, was super friendly, quick and attentive without being too intrusive. Â We had our drinks promptly filled and our check brought out timely as well.
We all ordered off of the menu. Â I had a ham and cheese omelet, with a side of buttered wheat toast and apple smoked bacon. Â All of my food was very delicious - no complaints at all! Â And the portions were just right to be full, but not stuffed. Â My husband had the pulled pork sandwich which I had a bit of. Â I wasn't crazy about the pickles (my own issue!), Â but the pork was flavorful and moist. Â And the french fries! Awesome! Â My friend had the belgian waffle, which was yummy and just the right amount of food, since she wasn't all that hungry. Â The best part was that it was $34 for three of us! It would have been more expensive had we done the buffet, and it didn't look like the buffet had a lot to choose from...however, you do get complimentary beverages with brunch :)
I definitely will come back here for a nice romantic dinner and maybe sit at the bar for drinks and dessert.
If I could give less stars, I would. Â We came to Bear Mountain Inn to celebrate our friends getting married and the only reason we've eaten here (twice) was because there are no other restaurants in walking distance. Â We will never, ever come back. Â Read below for more details.
For the first meal, we arrived for a late lunch around 2:30p and sat at the bar (Blue Tapas Bar). Â Not because it was busy (it wasn't) but because the tennis tourney was on tv. Â We ordered quickly (within 5 min) and waited 40 min until we finally asked if our salads (yes, two salads - that's it) where coming out soon. Â He went and checked and apologized because they lost our ticket. Â He said they were making it right away and that we would be comped because it had been so long. Â Finally our salads came out 10 min later and looked like someone just threw the ingredients in a bowl and sent out to us. Â Prob took 2 minutes to make. Â We ordered fries, because we were still hungry. Â We got our bill and we were charged the full amount of our meal!!! Â We had been there so long, we just paid and left.
The second meal was for dinner. Â We were a group of five and the place wasn't too busy again (should have taken this as a sign). Â We ordered wine, bread and a couple of apps. Â The $12 tomato app was not even a whole tomato, it was probably 2/3 of a tomato with a tiny dropping of goat cheese. Â It was absolutely ridiculous. Â The mozzarella ball was fine in the 2nd app.
We then all ordered our meals. Â The veggie mushroom dish for $20 was two thin sticks with a few chunks of mushrooms on top...seriously?? Â I ordered the large 14oz steak for me and my boyfriend to share with a few other sides. Â The steak was $36 and sides were $5 a piece. Â We got it and the steak was very fatty and definitely not worth $15 let alone $36! Â Yet, we had a birthday at the table so we asked for a cookie dessert and coffee. Â The cookie was decent...should not have taken another 30 min to get after we ordered though. Â All and all, we were at dinner for a good 3.5 hours. Â We got our bills and I was charged $8 for a share plate! Â $8 for a low grade piece of meat that probably cost them less than $8 to begin with.
Once I leave, I will never, let me repeat, never come to this place again and will share with every person I know in or coming to this area.
