    I love Redwood Curtain! It's truly a hidden gem in Arcata with some of the best Belgian style brews I've tried in the States.

    They have four beers that they brew year-round. These include the B.P.A. (Belgian Pale Ale), the I.G.A. (Imperial Golden Ale- my personal go-to brew when I'm out somewhere that they offer it on tap), the Belgian Style Porter, and their IPA. All of these range somewhere in the 6% alcohol content range, so they're not light beers. These four are all delicious. In all of the beers that Redwood Curtain brews, you really can taste the hand-crafted love and and care put into their creation. Some Specialty favorites of theirs include the English Barley Wine and   their Trippel. These brews taste very authentic in their respective Belgian flavors. Most are quite high in alcohol content too, so beware! They're delicious so they get drunk quickly- almost too quickly!

    The atmosphere has been excellent since they enlarged the tasting room. Sometimes they have live bands performing, and most nights they have a food truck of sorts outside. There's always plenty of fresh air coming in. All of the bartenders have been very kind and friendly. I guess my one and only complaint would be that sometimes there isn't enough seating. That could honestly be a pro, though. The limited seating gives the place a home-y and secluded type of feel. They are child friendly, too! There's a small little fort that I've seen kids play in. They also have tons of board games to play while you're there.

    Oh! If you get hungry while you're there -or catch yourself getting a little tipsier than you thought!- they have free bowls of Goldfish or Wheat Thins for you to snack on while you're drinking. Just ask the bartenders. Free unlimited refills too!

    All in all, I love Redwood Curtain's brews, atmosphere, service, and location. If it were any closer into downtown Arcata, it would be super packed every night of the week, thereby making it less of a treat (in my opinion).

    I usually love places like this, but sadly, I was very unimpressed.

    The beer was too strong for me, my friend, and my boyfriend to a point where we couldn't even finish our beers. There were bugs everywhere (the door was open), and live music was playing. The music was fine, but so loud that none of us could hear each other. Also, the place reeked of pot. I understand that it's Arcata, but in my opinion, that seems a bit unprofessional for any business that wants to be taken seriously.

    Best Microbrewery In California, maybe America. Pints are expensive ($5 for 20oz, $3.50 for 12oz) But you get what you pay for. Just don't expect to get drunk here.

    This place has only been around for a few years but it has become super popular to the locals. I have taken my folks here 3-4 times and they have been very impressed every time.

    My dad said he had the best beer ever here (rauchbier) and he has been a microbrew drinker for 35 yrs.

    They also have food here usually (artisan hot dogs)

    A DEFINITE DESTINATION TO VISIT WHEN IN ARCATA

    This place seems like a really cool place to hang out... if you like their beer. If you don't, well... they don't have much to offer you other than maybe a few snacks. There's no actual food here, it's just a nifty tasting room. I did like the place, unfortunately I didn't really enjoy any of their drinks. To each their own. I'm sure there are people out there who love RCBco beers.

    Very friendly staff and crowd.  Had a chance to try a couple of the beers, and I'm sold.  I'll be back.

    I came here while on vacation and was recommended here by a local student. The salted caramel brownies they sell are amazing! I talked to the woman who actually makes them and Humboldt is only place you can find them. Really wish I knew the name of the brownie company... They are a great snack to go with their fine beers if you're craving something sweet. They offer flights of their beer which are perfect for fist timers not sure what beer they would like. The small place is very cozy and the employees very knowledgeable about all the beers they serve. I appreciate the fact that give honest opinions not the... "everything is good here." If this brewery expanded to have a kitchen so they could have appetizers...this place would be even more awesome than it is. I only wished I didn't live so far away.

    Delicious cutting edge beers crafted and served by genuinely nice, funny enthusiastic and charmingly offbeat individuals who never forget that customers matter.

    Was up in the Ferndale area, and based on the review of fellow Yelpers, this was the top priority brewery of my visit, even if it was a bit north. Don't let small size and young age of this brewery fool you...if you love beer, you need to go.

    It might look like a small place from the outside, but the inside is a really cool setup. I was pretty impressed that they had 9 of their beers on tap, and decided to taste the rainbow o' beer and sample the full menu. Great selection and something for everyone while still being distinct and full of flavor. My favorite was the Flaming Sombrero (I usually don't like smokey beers, but this was soooooo good), followed closely by the Dubbel and the IGA.

    Ari (sp?) was working at the time and was very knowledgeable and gave good advice on packing, temp, etc... when I decided to buy my first growlers and drive them 5 hours back home to the SF bay. Just finished the last one off yesterday (a month after I got it) and it still tasted great. Except for now I'm bummed that I'm out of beer from my favorite brewery. Until I start seeing this stuff in stores, I have a feeling I'll be a more frequent visitor to Arcata.

    One thing to note is that they do not have food. I'm not sure if you're allowed to bring in your own or not, but just a heads up.

    Great beer. Probably the best in Humboldt. Fun, funky tasting room. Great stop before and/or after taking a walk around the Arcata Marsh.

    BEST PORTER I'VE EVER HAD. Sooo smooth! And the Imperial Golden Ale might have just hopped into my "favorite beers of all time" list! So proud of Eli and his staff. They are all amazing guys doing some amazing work. I would support these guys over any other brewery here, they truly deserve the business. 100% recommend!

    An amazing brewery with great quality craft beer. The location isn't the greatest, but it keeps the crowds down a little bit. The new tap room should be open in late August, but won't be adding much more seating. They don't bottle so be sure to bring your growler and fill it up, or buy one when you visit. Happy Tuesday is great with $1 off all beer. Wednesdays are pretty popular where they often have a dry hopped special on tap. The staff are super friendly and very educated about the beer. Ask for a bowl of goldfish.

    I honestly don't care one way or the other about beer. Prefer gin, but the music on Monday nights is outrageous. Go for Buddy Reed combo and for the beer. I hear it is very good.

    Imperial Golden Ale is $5 for a 20oz glass. Enjoy every penny, as this is one smooth ale on the way down, especially on a hot day. Be warned, the actual tasting room is very small, you can't get more than about a dozen or so people in there before it gets really cozy. Try to drop by on a weekday night instead of on the weekend when it gets really too packed for comfort. Bottom's up!

    This newby on the HumCo beer scene is a home run! Terrific Belgian style beers. An authentic atmosphere that makes you feel like to tasting from the vat -- since you are sitting right next to one. Seriously, the only way to improve on this would be to have more space and serve food.

    Every beer drinker who feels like they are ready to take things to the next level needs to come here.  This is the real deal.   You get to drink right next to the beer being made and can feel the spirit of the alcohol as it grows indide of you with sip.  Bubblely booze water fit for a king.  Come here sober..... Leave here drunk.

    After living in Humboldt county for years and tasting all of the local (and local-ish) breweries of the amazing (Ukiah, Eel River), great (Bear Republic, Anderson, Mad River, Six Rivers), and not-as-great varieties (Lost Coast, Mendocino), Redwood Curtain was a breath of fresh air. All of their beers are pretty mind-blowing, and they're always coming out with new brews and special editions. I love that they want to stay true to their roots and keep the beer local, however, after relocating from the redwood country I wish I could get them to make an exception for me! Plus, I believe they have the best logo out of all of them. Sorry, Duane Flatmo!

    These beers are truly unique, not the hop-heavy selection found in most West Coast breweries.  The Belgian Porter and Dubbel are standouts.  They're not afraid of hops though...I was warned to try their Batch 69 last.  WOW...hop explosion!!  The flavor was intense I could no longer even taste the bowl of cheddar cheese goldfish I was snacking on!

    These innovative brewers need to be visited and encouraged to do more.

    Humboldt Brewery Tour Stop #4

    My favorite brewery in Humboldt County! I was blown away by the quality of their beers and loved them all.  Basically in the top 5 breweries visited...as of yet.

    Their sampler was very unique with lots of different styles and some you don't get to often like IGA and Tripel's.

    Belgian Pale Ale (BPA)
    Imperial Golden Ale (IGA)
    Belgian Porter
    Tripel
    India Pale Ale (IPA)

    The IPA was the best I tasted on the trip. The Tripel was right behind and besides Cherry Voodoo the only other Tripel I have enjoyed. Too many of them just taste like alcohol.  Left with a growler of IPA and wished they bottled their beers (or distributed to Sonoma County!)

    Either way we will be back again!

    I loved the vibe. So did hubby. I kept wanting to go here. So, we went for a nice 45 minute walk at the Arcata Marsh and cooled off (yeah, it was HOT in Arcata today) at Redwood Curtain. Our host, Ari, what a nice guy. We liked him. He was young and personable. His two other co-workers also quite chatty and we talked beer and travel.

    the Sommer Sauer Weisen is so yummy as is the Belgian Pale Ale. I sampled both and bought a glass of the ale. Hubby had the Dry HOp Cascade Porter. Very thick and good. Full of GUSTO (ha!).  Loved it.
    We'll be back.

    So, come one and all and see what's behind The Redwood Curtain...more than meets the eye!

    This place is hard to find at night time if you have never been there before... However, once we found the brewery, we were pleased.

    They have about 6 ot 7 beers on tap. They had good taste and body..... The prices were right as well.

    It seems like it is more of a college hang out and that might annoy some people...

    We would go back again..

    One of my sisters and I recently completed a whirlwind tour of all the breweries of Humboldt County (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/list/humboldt-county-brewery-tour-arcata">http://www.yelp.com/list…</a>), I would have to say this new-ish, out-of-the-way, little brewery was probably my favorite.

    In another life I went to school at Humboldt State, and from all my years there, I never really ventured to the industrial marshiness of the South G St. area of Arcata.  Redwood Curtain now turns this area into a definite destination.

    The brewery & tasting room has it all.  The vibe was chill here.  We grabbed a table (which was actually a barrel).  They were playing some head bobbing electro-jazz.  People were hobnobbing & reveling all around--at the bar, in the parking lot, at tables, and on their bikes with freshly-filled Mason jars of brew.

    But come on now, what's it really about??  The brews of course.  The magical elixirs made from hand, Father Time, hops, and skill.  I, of course went with their Sampler:

    ::  Belgian Pale Ale (BPA)
    ::  Imperial Golden Ale (IGA)
    ::  Belgian Porter
    ::  Tripel
    ::  India Pale Ale (IPA)
    ::  Black Forest Imperial Stout

    How does that brewtastic index strike ya?  I was dumbstruck.  Yes, when I see creative & wide-varying choices such as this, I do get a tad hap, hap, happy.  With daring and creative choices like this I knew I was in for an adventure.  Oh, and the taste...

    Yeah, each brew was unique in it's own way.  I easily loved them all.  I've been to some breweries where all the ales from a sampler have a smattering of something similar--for me, not a good thing.  I like it when each ale is distinct, has it's own flavor, and is able to sing to me.  Redwood Curtain's brews do this in spades.

    Awesome ales, super staff, & magnificent memories (oh, and they also have a jug of water near the door in case you want to dilute some of the yumminess before heading out).

    People of Humboldt County, I introduce you to your county's King of Breweries!

    Redwood Curtain is making a refreshingly delicious style of beer almost unheard of on the west coast: a balanced beer.  99% of the beers on the market are HOP driven so the first thing you may notice about Redwood Curtain beers is the actual taste of malt and even yeast.  This is not to say they don't make hoppy beers!  If you don't believe me, try their IPA or any of their dry-hopped beers.  However, the majority of their beers use a fresh, balanced approach to hops, malt and yeast.  If you haven't liked Belgian style beers in the past, try theirs.  It is fresher and more delicious than anything shipped over from Antwerp in a bottle.

    Some inaccurate Yelp reviews have stated the brewery is only open a couple days a week or only accepts cash.  Not true.  Open 6 days a week now.  Credit cards welcome.  Pints are NOT $5.

    PROS: best beer in Arcata.  Malt forward, balanced approach to beer.  Friendly atmosphere.  Different taste from most breweries.  Great variety of beers.

    CONS: small, no food other than bar snacks, seating a little awkward.

    This is the best new beer in town. Their Imperial Golden ale ( IGA ) is off the hook. I love their beer. The down fall is that they charge $5 dollars a pint at the brewery. I can go to a local bar and get it for $4 dollars.

    Cool new place in town.  I tried the beer sampler and enjoyed a game of backgammon with a friend.  Nice way to spend an afternoon.

    Damn fine craft brews! Eli and Drake are artists and they've done a monumental job. The brews are phenomenal and the owners like to talk with you about what they've poured for you as you enjoy it. Make sure you visit this place.

    First of all, it's not a bar or even a brewpub.  It seemed like the owner liked brewing his own beer and opened up a shop where you could come in and drink it.  The beer is fantastic.  When I went in they had about five beers on tap.  Since the beer relies more on malt rather than hops to give it a unique flavor.  It could be considered a response to what some might say is California microbrews' infatuation with hops.  Hops are great and hoppy beer is delicious, but this place is definitely a welcome change.
    It is about a mile from downtown Arcata, so you should probably drive out here.  We almost couldn't locate it.  Last call was at 9:00, so don't expect to stay here drinking until after midnight.  Also, it is cash only, so stop by the ATM first.  However, if you are looking to start the night out with some quality beer, this is a good place to start.

    The Redwood Curtain Brewing Company is the Humboldt Bay Area's fifth and newest microbrewery. You can't buy their ales in stores, only on tap  at a handful of local outlets and at the brewery's own tasting room (open on Friday and Saturday afternoons only). They produce seven ales, focusing on Belgian styles and using a proprietary English Ale yeast strain. Hit the tasting room when it's open and get a flight for $10, or visit Humboldt Brews, Arcata Pizza & Deli, Jambalaya, or any of the few other local outlets that serve Redwood Curtain on draft. Wednesday Pint & Pizza Sci-Fi night at the Arcata Theater Lounge is never complete without a pint or two or three of an RCBC ale. This is the kind of thing that makes Humboldt County so special - keep it up guys!
