Chicken diablo and veal brat were amazing. Mac & cheese bites and mini corn dogs and I'm a kid again! Â The beer list hits the spot every time and I'm always impressed with the staff. They know their beers and provide for their customers excellent service. Jesse and Scott are going to take great care of you so check this place out!!
Review Source:Spicoli/Kenny McCormick/Rusty Griswald, your order is up!
Unbelievable selection of beers makes this place 5 stars right off the bat. Â San Diego is known to have great restaurants and bars for beer selection, but they tend to gravitate towards our local Pale Ales and IPAs. Â Regal Seagull offers our local hopped beverages, but adds some other great beers to their board, so you get a nice range to choose from.
Great food too! Â The brats and tater tots were delicious and you get to go crazy with a mustard bar offering a nice selection.
Close to the beach. Â Outdoor seating. Â This place is great and this post is bittersweet- I want them to have the recognition, but it means that I have to brave the (deserved) crowds that will come to such a fine establishment.
This place is awesome! Â Great beer selection, great food, great location and pet friendly (on the patio).
$5 or $6 per pint depending on which beer you select. Â They have wine as well but not sure on the prices for that. Â
You have to order your drinks and food at the bar no matter where you sit since they dont have waiter/waitresses. Â If its crowded you have to push your way up there, but who 'done that at a bar before?
They give you a sweet name on your food ticket like "homer simpson" or "chewbacca" Â so that you know when your food is up and can pick it up over at the food station.
Location allows for a good pint after a surf. Â Parking can be difficult, but if you park on the east side of the 101 (heading north) across from the Regal, there are usually open spots but it is in dirt.
I have been here a few times for beers now and really enjoy it. They have a GREAT list and the bartenders are SUPER nice and knowledgeable. They also have a cool system for ordering food.... Â :)
I have not eaten here yet only because it seems pricey for sausages, AND they claim that the sausages are made fresh.....my boyfriend went there a few weeks ago and sat at the bar (where can see into the back corner of the kitchen) and watched a cook take out a row of frozen sausages and plop them in the sink under running water to thaw. Really? Fresh? That equals not frozen to me. Hmm.....I'd challenge them to rethink that one. (that's the only reason my star rating is low)
But I will for sure keep going back for the beer AND Wed. is wing day -- 3 for $1....and they are good!
Parking is tough though. They've added a bunch of new places on the coast in Leucadia but it doesn't seem like anyone thought about where to park.......
Started here for a Saturday fun day. Arrived at 1:30...plenty of seats at the time, but they quickly filled up. Lots of beers to choose from, and you easily order them by number. We ate the fried mac & cheese bites, giant pretzel, fried green beans and then we all shared sausage sampler platters. All 6 of us had happy belly's at the end of the meal. Great service, and great mustard bar! Excellent addition to the 101 in Leucadia!
Review Source:My new favorite place to drink in Encinitas. They open up noon. The location is off of Coast Highway, so if you get there at a decent time, parking is possible, if not, you may need to get a little creative. They have both indoor and outdoor seating as well. There are a few TV's inside with sports, and if it's hockey season, they will put the game on if you ask.
I went with my sister for the first time a few weeks ago. The waitress was very friendly and knew her beer, so I was really happy about that. The selection is great and they have stouts on tap in the summer. Awesome! I settled on a Belching Beaver Beaver's Milk Stout on Nitro. Good system as it was not flat or warm.
For lunch we decided on a few of their sausages (they have a pretty big menu). Each one comes with 2 toppings and a side of fresh made potato chips for $9.99. I got the Veal Bratwurst with cheese as my only topping as I wanted to taste the brat. It was very light, flavorful and properly grilled so the skin had a nice pop to it with each bite. The chips were very tasty as well with just the right amount of salt.
My sister got the the Smoked Cajun with onions and peppers. We were warned that it was their hottest sausage and it was (but in a good way). Quite tasty with a nice amount of heat. C'est si bon! (it is good!).
For a nice place, with great beer, great sausage and friendly service, this is the place.
Ahh the Dirty Bird. Â You've been in my life for so short of a time, yet the impression you have made will last a lifetime. Â I never would have considered myself a mustard connoisseur, especially considering I had a bad experience involving a strip club, a kiddie pool, a blacklight, and a gallon of heinz yellow, but put Beagle Tots (a must, with hot sauce and blue cheese), a soft pretzel, or any sausage variety in front of me, and I can't get enough of the stuff.
And the beers, I said goddamn! Â Constantly shifting sands of hoppy, malty, handcrafted options keep me coming back to see what's, literally, on tap. Â I just better not see you order chardonnay. Â Go next door to Solterra if that's your flavor and save the elbow room at the bar for those that appreciate what The Seagull gives Leucadia. Â All the Seagull is missing is the board games and Jenga that the Beagle's got in Mission Hills. Â Welcome to the 'hood!
always a treat! trucker hats are now available and I got one of the first ones! all of the staff are stoked to work there as Scott made it clear saying it was the best job he ever had. Â Nick was nice, as usual. Â Never had a bad time there. Â Love the ever changing beer selection, voting for the Weisenbock (sp?) to come back. . .. permanently
Review Source:I'm beginning a love affair with this place. Â They have 30 rotating drafts including 4 or 5 wines and at least one hard cider. Â The food specials ($0.25 mini corn dogs on Mondays and WingNight Wednesdays) are worth checking out. Â The parking can be tough as is finding a seat, but when you do, you will be treated right. Â You order at the bar, and they fling your food orders across to the kitchen on a wire. Â And they give you a given name for your order from old TV shows or movies (e.g. Ace Ventura, Jeff Spicoli). Â We enjoyed the mini corndogs and the fried green beans. Â Next time I plan to try one of the sausages or brats. Â They have like 6 different mustards "on tap" to try dressing your favorite.
I'm so glad the "royal" seaward bird the Seagull landed in North County which is right on PCH and easy to locate. Â I'll be back to continue the loving courtship.
Finally a place to enjoy some beer and food in Encinitas without the scene (Union, etc...). We stopped in last night, were treated very well by staff - manager, server, guy cooking the sausages were all great. Â Interesting selection and prices were a few bucks cheaper than a few other beer bars in the area. Â Not so great if you're vegetarian, but there are always sweet potato fries and tots! Â I felt like we were more in North Park than North County, which is good!
Review Source:2 words: MUSTARD BAR.
I love the plethora of choices when it comes to dipping my tots, soft pretzel or dressing my dog.
They have good, greasy bar food and great craft beers on draught. Could you have come to Leucadia at a more perfect time?!? Me thinks not! Thank GOD ALMIGHTY that weird sushi place was over taken by a new beachy rendition of the Regal Beagle!
The only down sides are (1) that it can be super crowded; (2)It's also a little annoying to sit at the tables and have to constantly wade through the patrons sitting at the bar in order to order beers or food. I understand the laid back concept, but they should have a designated spot where table sitters come to order their stuff, instead of having us breathe down the necks of the other guests trying to enjoy their beers at the bar!
I went there a while ago with my friends on a Thursday night. It was a little bit tricky finding a seat and I was surprised how busy it was. That is always a good sign...
I had the salad with a bratwurst and it was pretty good, could have used more dressing. My husband has the wings and an order of fries and some beer. My husband had to look for the meat on the wings.
The grief I had was that it was pretty pricey ( I guess the location must be the reason for that, because it sure wasn't the portions...) . Honestly, we went home still hungry and both of us are not big eaters. I guess, if you are drinking beer with your meal it might fill you up...
THANK YOU REGAL BEAGLE FOR CREATING ANOTHER ONE OF YOU BECAUSE THERE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH ROOM IN THE WORLD FOR MORE BEER BARS LIKE YOURS! Â
I was walking around in Encinitas with a girlfriend that lives in the area and I ran into the Regal Seagull. Â I was joyfully surprised because I had been trying to get my girlfriend to go to the Regal Beagle with me and she was never available or complained it was too far. We stopped in for a bite to eat and drink and my friend and I were extremely happy (Please read my Regal Beagle review to get the full affect because it is easy a 5+ star place).
The beer selection and food is exactly the same as the Regal Beagle. Â I love that the staff and owner care enough to keep quality of food and beer consistent. Â
Now when I am in Encinitas I have my FAVORITE place to take my North County friends too!
i believe that good eats (and drinks) are ingredient driven or the food equivalent of what TED WILLIAMS said about hitting -- pick out a good pitch and try not to screw it up.
not a lot of re-purposing here.  they're pretty much taking really good sausage that somebody else made and really good beer that somebody else brewed and set  'em down on the counter in front of us. Â
well, that works for me.
seven-year old JULIANA had the MAC and CHEESE bites (gooey, deep-fried balls of cheese and macaroni goodness) and the hot wings hold the hot sauce. five-year old WYATT devoured his burger (side-by-side sliders on a hot dog roll). GRANDMA JEANNE had the BRATWURST -- T&H PRIME MEATS makes the best sausage in general and BRATS in particular -- end of story.
i had the lamb -- not so feed lot raised and cut with pork so there's still a strong lamb flavor.
the MILK STOUT and COFFEE STOUT were outstanding.
tasty beer. Â tasty sausage. Â life is good.
So stoked to have a good beer pub in Leucadia! Â I used to live close to the Regal Beagle in Mission Hills so I was naturally very excited to learn that the owners were opening up a sister bar in my hometown. Â They always have a good variety of craft brews on tap. Â I usually lean towards the hoppier side of beer but they always have something for all tastes. Â Their sausages are great, and the Mac n' Cheese bites are amazing. Â I loved the Regal Beagle, but I think I like the Seagull even more. Â It has high ceilings, a lot of light, and an outdoor patio. Â The service is always great and the bartenders are super knowledgeable and friendly. Â For all the yelping naysayers out there, if you don't like good beer and sausages, why did you come to a beer and sausage bar?
Review Source:Wow, they have beer and brats! Â Big deal. Â You can get beer and brats at a Padres game or the Torrey Pines golf tournament. Â At a sporting event it costs less and you get friendlier service. Â It cost us $30 for two brats and one beer. Â The beers are real strange ones, like they take the kegs no one else wants.
If you are young and foolish, go here, you'll like it. Â Tell everyone you meet there, "no worries".
This place was packed! They are the sister company to the Regal Beagle. It looks like the menu is the same. We ordered three sausages. The lady behind the bar said it's 1/3 pound each, but my bf said he can handle it. :P I got the Cajun and the bf had the jalepeno cheddar and Kolbasz. The latter has 20% bacon. He really liked it! It's $9 and comes with chips and 2 toppings. I think the ones at Regal Beagle are better because mine was kind of burnt. The orders fly along a zip line with unique names. Ours was Darth Vader. When they called us everyone was laughing. I forgot to mention the beer. There are so many. We don't like beer, so we just sampled #14. It had grape juice, honey, and berries. Tasted almost like wine!
Review Source:Love this place! Come here on Saturday afternoon with the hubby to check it out. The layout of the restaurant is really cool, a long bar and several tables and nice flatscreens above the bar. There is outside seating as well. The bartenders were super friendly and answered my husband's questions regarding their beers. They have a nice selection, including Julian Hard Cider, which I love! We ordered the German Garlic sausage to split. You are given a ticket with a TV character's name from the 90s and they call that name out when your order is ready....fun! The sausage was really delicious! Loved the roasted peppers on top. We will definitely be back soon...I want to try their sausage sampler platter and the tots.
Review Source:I LOVE THIS PLACE! Â One of the things I was bummed about after moving to north county was that I would no longer be close to the Regal Beagle. But, apparently, my prayers were answered. First I find a decent Korean joint, and now I get Regal Seagull. What did I do to deserve this? SWEEEEET!
So if you haven't been to this place yet, it is a must. They have rotating beers on draft, and have a fantastic selection. They always have many choices for IPAs which makes me very happy.
The sausages are to die for. My favorite is the Moroccan lamb. And of course, with a side of sweet potato fries.
Came here with my boss the other day, and had delicious burrrs. Going to be back again soon.
I've visited twice so I think I've gotten an adequate feel for the place.
It's a relatively small joint with a long bar being the main feature. Â There are a few tables inside and a few more outside. Â It can get crowded at night, which is a result of the size, the 'newness', and the popularity of the place. Â It fits the neighborhood perfectly... a huge taplist, casual feel, and no-fuss menu. Â One of my favorite features is that the taplist is written in chalk above the bar.... which means no asking for beer menus and everything is current.
The reason I've been here twice already is the extensive beer selection. Â While it can't compete (or at least it hasn't based on the selection I've seen) with the top tier of beer bars in SD County, it boasts one of the best selections in North County. Â The focus is local breweries, both big and small. Â There are also a few taps dedicated to larger national craft breweries and Belgian breweries. Â My girlfriend was pleased to find they had cider and wine as well.
On to the food...
Between my two visits, I've probably tried 5 different types of sausage. Â A good way to get a taste of everything is to order the samplers (available in 2 or 3 varieties, along with choice of 2 toppings). Â My favorites are the Moroccan Lamb and Hungarian Kolbasz, but everything has been solid. Â The tater tots were also quite good... but there's not a whole lot that can go wrong with tots. Â Overall, it's above average pub fare but nothing mind-blowing. Â
Pros: Â Beer selection, vibe, meat in tube form
Cons: Â Elbowing your way through patrons sitting at the bar to get a beer (If you're a bar owner, take a page out of Stone's book... designate a spot for people to line up and grab a beer at the bar)
If I could give half stars, this would be a 4.5
Oooo sausages! They wrap these puppies up in some soft buns and top em in assorted fashions. I personally went for the mini corn dogs and tots, a fried meal of perfection! The BF went for the German Garlic dog, naturally, making his breath oh so amazing but his tummy even happier. We ordered refreshing ciders all around, but the beer taps glow with promise. Find your favorite local brews to pair with your brat, you won't have to look far.
We got there about 6 on a Sunday and managed to find a seat but reports say it tends to be packed unless you're lucky. We also found the prices to be a bit steep but the portions were generous and the location is prime so SoCal strikes again there.
I adore the name! It's awesome and helped me find the twitter handle for the original and hilarious Regal Seagull for which I am forever grateful. I'm excited to try the Mac and Cheese bites (They were out when we went) and maybe give a fifth star as I explore the menu further! Prepare for parking shenanigans, tis the 101 after all. Welcome to North County Regal Seagull, we love you already!
I love it, It's always exciting to have another fun bar open up in our little beach neighborhood! We walked over around 5pm the first week they were open and it was already packed with lots of locals, some hanging out on the patio with their dogs (note to self). It's pretty roomy inside with a big long, inviting bar displaying an impressive collection of beers written on chalkboards.
I'm more of a wine/vodka kinda girl but my boyfriend was in beer heaven with the selection of local and imported brews on tap. I had a white Belgian which was nice and tasty and he had a Lost Abbey. The menu mostly consists of house-made sausages which makes sense along with beer, again not my thing. But to their credit they do offer a veggie burger and we split a small order of mini corn dogs, mmmmm. They have a good happy hour too, $1 off beers and apps, plus all day on Tuesday. Needless to say, we'll be coming here quite often!
I have had many warm memories of the beagle. The only drawback is that I have to drive down in order to have a refined dog at the beagle.
Now the fine sausage and beer establishment has made a foray northwards in my direction. The citizens of North County rejoiced.
Many things are similar- the boards with the taps on them, the many sausages (i believe the menu is almost identical), the orders that fly along a zip line and the unique names instead of order numbers.
The good differences- much more spacious vertically (if any of you follow my reviews, I for some reason have a strange affinity towards higher ceilings), nice patio area and closer to the beach. Also, many more windows, which makes the space feel more open.
The "meh" differences- There is no dart board... which I'm okay with since I feel scared of being skewered by a dart. BUT.... THERE IS NO WHEEL. my favorite thing about the regal beagle was its beer wheel, which you spun when you weren't sure which beer you wanted- it would choose the beer for you. It even had a gaff slot for coors light (puke) and a skinny slot for a free beer. but it is absent from this place! This is the only bummer!
MY FRIENDS. This is almost a 5 star place! They just need that wheel!
(Oh and a note about their fine food- I had a salad, and it says to add a sausage, you pay $5 on top of the $6 for the salad. I thought this meant they slice sausage on top. I WAS DELIGHTFULLY WRONG. they gave me a whole sausage in a bun with all the fixings and their home made potato chips. WONDERFUL. )**
(OK. 4.25 stars. I just really want them to add a beer wheel.)
**I've been informed that it was truly a mistake. I was supposed to have the sausage sliced on top. I will count my blessings, but don't go demanding it from the restaurant!
***Also props to Matt G. for being one of those owners that communicates with yelpers- I tip my hat to you!
Love the 'Beagle', and after moving to north county, am sofa king excited the Seagull has opened. Â Already went in, and the new place looks great: outdoor seating, big bar, and some seating inside. Â It had been a while since I got down on mac and cheese bites or fried green beans, so I ordered that and the chicken diablo with tots. Â I didn't need to eat all that... but then again, yes I did. Â It was great. Â Familar faces (from the Beagle) - Jessie and Tim, Hanna and Chantal were there, just as friendly as it gets. Â I love this place and will go here regularly and am going to be bringing friends.
Review Source:I have been waiting for the Regal Seagull to open since I first saw the sign posted on 101 months ago. Â I had been bugged to try the Beagle in Mission Hills for a long time when I lived downtown, I just never had the chance. Â Luckily, places in downtown/Hillcrest/Mission Hills are starting to see that Encinitas is the new hotness and expanding their brands up here (Solace!). Â We stopped in on Saturday afternoon with our dog, parked ourselves at one of the large communal outdoor tables in the sun, and ordered us some weiners and some brewdogs (I mean, we earned it for running up the stupid Torrey Pines hill for La Jolla Half training). Â It's good to have some craft beer options in this stretch of Leucadia. Â Nothing against O'hurleys or the Leucadian (which I love), but the beer selection at the Seagull blows them out of the water. Â I'm also a fan of the local brews, but Regal Seagull had more of a wider focus with only a handful of locals, and an eclectic mix of domestic craft beers available. Â My wife had the german garlic on a bun, I had the platter with the Hungarian with bacon and jalapeno cheddar. Â We also had a basket of tots. Â The tots are fine, not exceptional, but note that you definitely get a large quantity for your money. Â The sausage was great, and I love that they have essentially a mustard bar to get a variety. Â I'll be back for more weiners and to try their burger. Â At night, this is one of the nicer places to grab a drink in Leucadia, and I expect it will stay crowded, especially as the nights warm up and the patio gets more use. Â The interior is fairly narrow and can fill up easily. Â
Granted it was the first few days open, but the Seagull could use more than bartender behind the bar, even mid-afternoon, as it filled up quick, and service slowed substantially. Â I assume this will get fixed as word gets out that the Regal Seagull is open and crowds continue to flow in. Â A great addition to the Encinitas scene, and a great place to get some grub and some suds with your dog.
Two words: sausage fest. Reasons: lots of men, lots of sausages. I came here one day after their official opening with 3 friends. I was impressed by the their extensive menu (sausage of all types, yam fries, salad, tater tots, fried mac n cheese bites, donut holes, and more). As far as their beer menu, there are so many types of beers on tap, that I can guarantee that you will find at least two that you will like. I picked two local beers from Ironfire and Ballast Point, to accompany my smoked beer sausage topped with bell peppers.
All in all, this is a great place to catch a sports game on TV (e.g. NCAA), the food tastes great, there is outdoor dining for warmer days, and the restaurant itself is clean.
Went back Saturday night after public opening. Â The place was a madhouse with multiple groups having birthdays in the tiny place and folks dragging their toddler children through a bar at 8pm. Â What the 'H'? Â It took over an hour for an order of 2 brats to be prepared and only 5 orders on the rack when ours went in. Â Food was good, ambiance was deafening. Â I'll bet in a few weeks it'll be a ghost town. Â Better to wait for the morons to move on to the next trendy beach joint, then check it out. Â Only one porter on the list of 24 drafts, so clearly this was meant to cater to the kiddies and the Miller/PBR crowd. Â The tripel was OK and the red/sour beer good.
Review Source:Birds of a feather flock together . . . and plenty of craft beer connoisseurs are flocking to Regal Seagull, the recent offspring of Mission Hill's Regal Beagle. Â All excited about sausages and beer, I went to Regal Seagull on Thursday night and couldn't find any standing room so I came back on Friday night and found a perfect spot to sip some beer and share a sausage (Ohh, that just sounds wrong.)
The beer list is good.  Most breweries I was familiar with and many of the beers I have had but there were still a few new ones to me.  My friend went Belgian and ordered a Straffe Hendrik Brugse Tripel Bier 9°.  As an East Coast girl I went Delawarean and ordered Dog Fish Head Indian Brown Ale which was sooo good.  My friend and I each had half of a garlic sausage topped with peppers and cheese.  It was good stuff. Â
I think come summer the Regal Seagull will be an even better spot to hang out. Â It was definitely packed like a can of sardines but given it a few months and I think it will be a little less crowded and people will be taking advantage of the tables outside.
Stopped in tonight with my 3 y/o for the soft open. Â Super excited someone is bringing good beer north of Encinitas blvd! Beer on one wall, food on the other - couldn't be simpler. Â Friendly staff, good atmosphere, Â good pork brat, great mac n cheese bites - fried cheese amirite? Â Topped it off with an Old Rasputin. Â Frankly, they could have fed me purina since they have 24 beers on tap... Â I'm a little sad to see the old Leucadia sushi go, but these guys are going to do great!
