Horrible! Would never go back! Food was terrible..service was so slow...and the old woman was yelling at a customer.

It was the most disappointing food I have ever had! Service was so slow..food was so over cooked and the older woman was yelling at the customers. Would never go again!

So, after hiking Hogpen Gap to Unicoi Gap on the AT in a day, my husband was famished. Wanting a steak, we turned to Yelp to find something along our route home in Athens. When Ribeyes popped up, we were excited to try something new (we've been severely disappointed by the Longhorn chain around here).
Driving up, it was obvious that the place is a local favorite. At 7:45 on a Saturday night, the parking lot was packed and there were three other parties waiting to be seated.
The menu is fairly basic, with your general steak, chicken, and seafood entrees. He got a 12oz ribeye with baked potato and mushrooms. I went for the half order of grilled shrimp with a baked potato. As we waited for our food, we heard more than one regular patron tell newcomers (like us) that we would absolutely love the food. Low and behold, they were right. My shrimp was PERFECT, not undercooked and not rubber. The seasoning was nice, too. The baked potatoes were HUGE. My husband's steak was full of flavor and the mushrooms were delicious. What they didn't tell us (and I didn't notice on the menu) is that they also bring out biscuits. When the waitress sat them on the table, I was speechless. There is truly only one way to describe these biscuits...think Red Lobster's Cheddar Bay Biscuits on steroids! Seriously, each one is a HUGE muffin of cheesy, bready goodness topped with a fantastic garlic butter that leaves you wanting more.
The only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars is that the service can be kind of slow. They were running behind and it took nearly an hour to get our food. Neither one of us typically orders a salad or appetizer, but wish we had just to tide us over. Honestly, I don't mind that kind of wait when the food is fantastic. And the food was definitely fantastic. The next time I get a steak craving, we're driving the hour from Athens just to hit up Ribeyes again!
Yes, this place is a tough one to find if you don't live in this area and have cruised the roads. Â J. Warren Rd. is the road running parallel to Hwy. 365 on the west side, driving right next to Burger King.
This is a family run steakhouse and the food just cannot be beat. Â This family knows exactly what they are doing. Â They make onion rings with onions which are bigger than softballs! Â There is no skimping on the fullness of the dinner plates.
The place looks like it used to be a log cabin and is very homey and comfortable. Â There are not a whole lot of tables, as the dining areas are not all that large, so expect a wait if the parking lot has a lot of cars. Â The wait to me is worth it. Â There is also a small bar with maybe 5 seats if your party is just a couple of you and there is room. Â Also be aware that there is only one bathroom, shared by all; just in case anyone has a phobia about this.
This is a very talented family when it comes to food. Â I hope the little cabin has more property than what is seen. Â I'd love to see them expand. Â They could really make a lot of money and make a lot of tummies happier!
