I was really disappointed in the food I had delivered. I ordered the vegetable tempura expecting a nice crunch but instead it was mushy and too thick of breading. The delivery took 45 minutes and all the food was cold by the time it arrived.
I also ordered the California roll, which is one of the most popular sushi rolls and pretty hard to butcher. The menu did not indicate that their would be imitation crab salad in the roll. Very disappointing!
This restaurant is incredibly overpriced for sub par Asian cuisine. Â The service is incredibly disappointing-- even when ordering items to go. Â I've given this restaurant a few tries since its in close proximity to my home, Â but the service and quality has never improved. Â I will happily take my patronage else where.
Review Source:This place has the worst Japanese food I've ever had! Â First I started with the shrimp tempura and it was chewy and the breading was at least an inch thick. Â There was no crunch at all. Â I even complained and got a new order and the second one was EXACTLY the same. Â Then the rolls that were supposed to be crunchy and fried were mushy. Â Almost all their rolls are just different combinations of the same 5 ingredients. Â And they don't have anything special or authentic on the menu at all. Â
I will never eat at that place again after being waited on by a total moron too. Â The guy wandered around like a chicken with its head cut off and had no idea what he was doing. Â Then, to top it all off, he put hot dishes right in front of my baby! Â I'm sorry, if you don't have kids, then take one moment to THINK. Â My baby could've been seriously burned and I even told him he shouldn't do that and he brushed it off like oh yeah, sure whatever. Â
Also, for a restaurant called RICE you would think they would have decent rice, but no. Â I would definitely recommend Sushi Den or Sushi Tazu if you care about the rice. Â
I didn't like any of my rolls and I have never regretted going to a restaurant more in my entire life. Â It was a complete waste of money, my server treated me terribly and did a terrible job and the food was the worst I've ever had in a sushi restaurant ever in my entire life. Â Trust me, go anywhere but RICE, it sucks! Â
Oh yeah and what were they playing for music?! Â It's like oldies or something weird. Â It is bizarre and doesn't fit with the restaurant at all. Â It's like they don't know anything about Japan or Japanese food or Japanese culture. Â I don't think there even is one Japanese person working there. Â DEFINITELY not any at the sushi counter or in the kitchen! Â You can tell by the food. Â
So, trust me on this and avoid this place like the plague if you like Japanese food. Â If you like food court sushi from a mall, then this is about that quality. Â
And don't go if you have a baby! Â They will put hot plates right next to them with no concern for their safety at all!
We had sushi delivered and I probably wouldn't do that again. Â To be fair, Â the roads were getting slippery so things that should have been much hotter, were not. The lobster tempura ended up just soft and mushy. The seafood bake, and stuffed jalopenos, however, were really good. Â The modern CA roll was blah, and the crunchies weren't crunchy. I also ordered shrimp fried rice for tomorrow and I expect that to be good. Can't really wreck that.
I would give it another try, but I would eat there.
I am not a sushi eater one bit, but their chicken dishes (sweet/sour, ect) , and pretty much any other dish that isn't sushi is wonderful! It's a great place to dine in, and an even better place to order take out and enjoy some awesome food! The owner Dan is the friendlist owner I have ever met, he wants people to enjoy his resturant and it shows!
Side note: My husband likes sushi, and says this place has opened his mind to some great choices of sushi!
Have been here 3x and each time has been worse than the time before. Horrible service (the hostess and server fought right in front of our table about not wanting to wait on us) when we complained to manager about it she said oh sorry and that was it. And this last time there was hair from the sushi guy rolled into my food and again we were met with oh sorry and offered a new one which I denied and that all. We will NOT be giving this place another try :(
Review Source:I eat here like once a week. The sushi is the best I have ever had. The pad thai, hot and sour soup, crab cheese wontons, chicken in rice paper wraps and fried rice are amazing.
The staff is all super friendly and service is always prompt.
REALLY wish they would open a location closer to Denver!!!
After reading some of the reviews, I guess this place is more for sushi than it is for anything else. I got the wonton soup, crab wontons and some spring rolls to go and it was ... ok. I felt for the portion of the wonton soup and the price (about 9 bucks), I've definitely gotten better soup and a lot more for elsewhere and much cheaper. There just wasn't anything special enough about this place for me to go back. :(
Review Source:This is a favorite place of some at my current office. They are big sushi people.  I am not.  So this place doesn't thrill me as much as others  It is always busy at lunch time and the parking lot is part of the same shopping complex as a King Soopers so it can get crazy.  They do a good job of getting people in and out (they seem to know they are in DTC and they cater to the lunch crowd). Â
If you don't do sushi, they do have other things; Pad Thai (kinda forgettable), Kung Pao, Lo Mein - you get the idea. It is Asian Fusion. Â If you like sushi, I hear it is great. If you don't you will get an A-OK lunch. Â It won't wow you, but it is good enough at a reasonable price (most items $7-10 on lunch menu). Â
Also, it is a good spot if you are gluten free, they have several items on their menu that will fit your dietary needs!
My colleagues and I go here a couple of time a month for lunch.
The food is consistent, fast and the price is right.
The wait staff are attentive and the entire experience is a positive one.
We usually order the lunch special and I particularly enjoy the black pepper chicken.
I avoid the sweet and sour chicken dish because it so bland.
The soups - especially hot and sour are delicious and with an egg roll and mounds of brown rice, the lunch is deliciously filling.
I recommend this location as a  good lunch choice.  I would expect that dinner would be equally good.
We have been here for lunch and dinner 4-5 times in the last several months using a Groupon each time. Â The hostess almost always tries to seat us in the back corner even when the comfortable booths are available.
The sushi has been outstanding. Â Perfect sized rolls. Â Great flavor combinations.
Excellent service. Â Water glasses filled promptly. Â Chopsticks unwrapped by the server which is a nice touch.
We will be back, but so many Japanese restaurants to try in the Denver area. Â Bara Sushi in Greenwood Village is still my favorite so far.
Hostesses... You have one too many (I think I counted 5 or 6) waiting up at the front door and not doing anything but looking pretty and being dumb as a bag of nails. Â If this is any indication of how the rest of our experience would be, I would've turned around and left. Â However, peering around the corner from the so-called hostesses looked super inviting and we decided to stay.
Waitstaff... You rock! Â Well, we only had Nathan but that was enough to say "damn, we got the best waiter in the entire restaurant. Yes!" Â How much more attentive can a waiter be? Â I swear he had eyes in the back of his head or some spidey senses. Â As soon as our drinks (water and/or tea) were getting low, he would spring into action and get us a refill.
Food... Yes please! Â We had calamari, sushi as well as basil chicken. Â All prepared hot and filled with flavor! Â Definitely a generous portion that fills your plate and eventually your stomachs!
On the way out, the hostesses reminded me of the movie, Night at the Roxbury or even a night on the town.  I grinned this time, thanked them for the great food/service (since they don't talk but amongst themselves) and left.  They went back to socializing  and bouncing around like the heads of daffodils. (Yes, that is from a Wordsworth poem... look it up!) A great experience minus the obvious.  I'll be back soon enough!
Rice Bistro--You have redeemed yourself!
After a not so stellar experience here, I went back for dinner the other night and it was a complete 180 from my first time here.
We had a personable, attentive waiter (Nathan) Â who was just great. He was there when we needed him, quick with the refills but wasn't overbearing at all. All the food we ordered was top notch. We started off with the calamari appetizer which was crispy and drizzled with a sweet chile sauce (one of the best calamari appetizers I've enjoyed in awhile) then we had the Grand Canyon sushi roll with salmon, jalapeno, cilantro and topped with spicy tuna. The roll was good but I was expecting a lot more flavor to pop out instead of it being as mellow as it was.
But the best part was the Orange Beef I ordered. I usually opt for a chicken or pork dish but was feeling crazy since it was Friday night and all---so beef it was. The Orange Beef was tangy, tender and crispy, everything it should be. The dinner portion is huge and more akin to family style so I had enough for leftovers the next day (and who doesn't love Chinese leftovers?)
If you live in the area, they send out coupons in the mail so keep an eye out. I'm so happy I gave Rice Bistro another shot---I will be back for sure!
I love this place. Definitely on my top list of restaurants in Denver. Their Red Snapper melts in your mouth. They also have bamboo steamed dishes, which taste amazing and are very healthy. My favorite dessert there is Apple Cinnamon Springrolls served with ice cream and caramel. Mmmmm yumm!!!
Review Source:I met a friend for lunch. Â The service was efficient and everyone was polite and kind. Â The ambiance was somewhat of an Asian chic. Â I didn't look around as much as I usually do, since I only had an hour to catch up withI my friend and eat. Â I intended to order sushi, but kung pao chicken was on the menu. It has been sooooooo long, since I got to eat it! Â So, I ordered it extra spicy with hot and sour soup. Â It came with a vegetarian roll. Â All of the food was above average but not amazing. Â I'd definitely return for lunch, but I wouldn't be wiling to pay dinner prices for the food (at this point). Â I'll try the sushi next time...might change my mind then.
Review Source:What a lovely night we shared. Â My brother, my dad, his lovely wife and me. Â Together we shared sushi and a few other dishes. Â All very good.
The owner came out to say hi to my dad and he and I spoke for awhile. He is opening up on Santa Fe  in Aspen Grove.  He should do well.  They need restaurnts there.
The owner sent out these yummy thin fried sticks with raspberry and chocolat sauce. Oh so good. Â Nice ending to our lovely evening together.
Thank goodness for Yelp. Â We would have never found this restaurant if it wasn't for Yelp. Â
Outstanding sushi and a very nice selection of Saki. Â Manager stopped by to check on us and even brought us a complimentary taste of a different Saki than we ordered. Â Nice touch!
All in all, a great meal with great service at this tucked away sushi spot.
Great Restaurent, friendly staff and fantastic sushi. Always fresh and well presented. Rainbow Roll is my favorite but try Big E Ranch steak roll for a change of pace. Nagiri specials are always a treat.
While I love sushi my husband does not and there is plenty on the menu for him to enjoy. From Pad Thai to many fusion shrimp dishes to a traditional chinese dishes. Lot's of fresh choices. And green tea ice cream is a great way to finish the meal. Interesting cocktails choices and a nice reasonably priced wine selection as well.
By far my favorite sushi place in Denver. Sushi Den'rs stay there and leave this place to those that enjoy top quality fish and service without having to look pretty.
The staff is friendly and willing to custom order anything that you can imagine.
Pin is the master behind the sushi counter along with Manuel. Dan is a very attentive owner being out on the floor talking with guests and such.
I love this place for it's sushi but have tried many of their other menu items and all have been well prepared and with wonderful flavor.
Love, love, love! The DTC lunch club selected Rice Bistro as its January choice and I have to say I was a bit anxious. I wasn't a sushi fan, but Shea (I think) assured us there were other options for lunch besides sushi, so I decided to give it a chance.
Wow, was I surprised and impressed. The day we arrived was a wintry day, very cold, starting to light snow and chilly. Several of us arrived chilled to the bone from our short walk from the parking lot to the restaurant. Thankfully, there was hot tea to be had and it was ordered.
After perusing the menu, I decided on the massaman curry (which used to be on the lunch menu, but is no longer), along with soup and salad. I wasn't too impressed with the curry and felt they should stick to either the Chinese food items or perhaps sushi. I did have a sample of Carly's B salmon/avocado/asparagus roll and it was scrumptious. It was so good, in fact, that I had a craving for it a few weeks later and invited Carly B to lunch again at Rice.
On my second visit, I had Carly help me to understand the sushi menu. For $8.95, we both ordered from the sushi lunch menu, where I had one sushi roll, consisting of 8 pieces, wonton soup, salad, and 2 pieces of tempura shrimp and 3-4 tempura vegetables. It is so filling and again, scrumptious. I don't know what they put in their salad dressing, but it's so tasty. I've found the salmon/avocado/asparagus roll is definitely my fav.
My stepson was in town last week and we went to lunch during the week. I took him here, because it was an inexpensive way to feed a teenager who also loves sushi. It was the perfect choice as he was full. For a teenager with a tapeworm and a hollow leg, for him to be full, is really saying something. I also brought a friend with me and he ordered 2 sushi rolls and was impressed at the amount of food for $9. For three of us, our total tab was $30 with tax. Adding a tip, our bill was abut $12/per person. Not bad at all for sushi and we were in and out in about an hour.
I've found my new lunch spot. In fact, just  writing this review is making me hungry yet again.
Although I live pretty close to Rice Bistro and Sushi and had never been here until a few days ago (we always end up at nearby Panera for some reason). The food was a nice change of pace and the lunch menu was reasonably priced with a lot to choose from.
I had chicken in a spicy sauce with vegetables. Very tasty - just enough spice to make it interesting. My friend had vegetable and nice and we both had sweet & sour soup. Â Atmosphere and service was OK - nothing really wrong but nothing to write home about. Â I'm sure we'll visit again - perhaps for dinner or take outs.
Armed with a Groupon, I dragged hubby here for dinner. Â I enjoyed my awesome sushi, tempura, and roll. Â The wonton soup was not what I would have expected, but the wontons were tasty. Â Soup was far too salty. Â Hubby, however, was not pleased with his panang curry, as it was more of a stew and less of a curry. Â Onions took up half the bowl, and a quarter more of that was bell peppers. Hubby called his meal faux Thai. Â
Service was great, nothing to complain about there. Â The sushi/sashimi and tempura is fantastic, but I suppose I would order off the rest of the menu with a modicum of caution. Â What was supposed to be my birthday dinner ended up something of a subdued affair due to the curry. Â We didn't complain, because it was edible... it just wasn't what hubby had wanted.
Our DTC lunch club met here most recently and it was great choice (thanks Shea S!)
They have a few good choices for a sushi lunch depending on what you're into with a choice of two rolls being the least expensive at about $9 and a sampling of sashimi at about $12. Â Sushi lunch meals come with salad and soup. Â I went for the two roll deal (asparagus and salmon with avocado) and my only regret was not going for two fish rolls as the veggie rolls were a bit small (and who doesn't like a good value?) Â The rolls were very fresh and clean tasting.
They also served tea in big pots so you could pour and drink and pour and drink to your heart's content and then order more. Â Our server was also incredibly accomodating in bringing out Dan N's meal and check before the rest of us as he had a call he had to be on at 1. Â If you're not into sushi, they have all of the standard fusion fare in a lunch portion (noodles, curries, stir fries, etc).
The food won't bog down your tummy or your wallet - perfect lunch qualities in my book! Â I left feeling just satisfied.
Great lunch spot in the DTC. For $10 I got a salad, soup, 3 nigiri and a spicy tuna roll. They also have other lunch specials, including non-sushi dishes and a daily special not on the menu.
The salad had a very tasty Asian dressing, while the wonton soup had pork wontons that were incredibly flavorful. In fact, I might have to get that on its own sometime. It was great on a cold day with snow flurries. The highlight was the nigiri, which were amazingly fresh for land-locked Denver. The spicy tuna was very fresh and solid as well.
Overall a very pleasant lunch with great service. If I had to describe my food in two words, "fresh" and "quality" come to mind. Looking forward to coming back soon.
I have been here about 6 times since my previous review and decided that since the only thing I would change about Rice Bistro is the proximity to my house, I really have no choice but to give it that last, and well deserved, 5th star.
Whether I am eating sushi or chinese, all is very fresh & flavorful and in relation to the chinese, a huge serving for the price! My recent obsession is the Moo Shoo -pork, shrimp, chicken; don't care, I'm an equal opportunity moo shoo eater. They serve the pancakes in a warming dish so you can roll them burrito sized if you like (which I do, then regret because it ends up on the plate instead of in my mouth, anywho)...last visit, despite being very busy, the waiter rolled up 2 perfectly portioned pancakes tableside and inspired me to create rolls that I can actually eat. Who knew my eating habits could evolve during the course of a meal!
Cute location, tasty food, friendly staff
Lunch special is about the same as comparable locations around DTC.
The hot and soup soup was great! Wonderful flavor.
I got the sushi combo - spicy tuna was just ok, nigiri was amazing! Super fresh, super tasteful, just enough wasabi under the pieces of fish.
Staff was very attentive and friendly, manager checked on us.
Nice place for lunch in the DTC. Sushi and japanese offerings to please a crowd.
In Denver, I have my pick of sushi spots and gave Rice a try thanks to Groupon but after my experience, I'm not itching to go back. One thing this place has going for them is location and feel. It's a restaurant you can go to without having to worry about dressing up and the comfy atmosphere appeals to families with kids of all ages.
Our waiter had the best of intentions but fumbled through our meal. We got rice paper rolls with beef as an appetizer per his suggestion but those fired out of the kitchen before he even returned to take our sushi order. That would have been fine if the sushi itself didn't take over 45 minutes to be delivered to our table and we were starving.
Our rolls weren't bad. We had the mango roll with shrimp tempura, spicy tuna and dynamite roll. The spicy tuna was actually spicy which made me happy and the dynamite roll was warm and flavorful. My biggest qualm was that a lot of the sushi didn't stay together and that makes eating it even less attractive and difficult than it already is. Thankfully, I was with family.
It looks like they have good lunch specials that come with plenty of food at a decent price but other than that, in a land where we have the freedom to choose our favorite sushi spot, I'm going to go elsewhere.
Our server Eric was creepy, the eye contact was a little too intense & I was a server for 4 years so I know all about appropriate eye contact. The service was a little slow, it took a45 mins to get our sushi & it looked like most of the chefs were just standing around and talking.
Butonce we got our food it was well worth the wait and super dupa delish.
My hubby got the crazy roll and salmon nigiri= both good :)
Then we split the River Roll which was to die for! My mango roll and fatty tuna nigiri was also super good. I didn't realize it was 14 dollars for the fatty tuna though, yikes! Market price, more like crack price!
Anyways it's a little pricey but honestly so delicious & worthwhile. I am ordering take out as we speak. Yum Yum Yum.
Tried this place for dinner with our Groupon. Â It baffles me that all Asian-themed restaurants on the mainland somehow think that all countries in Asia serve the same cuisine. Â Like most Asian restaurants up here, this place serves Japanese, Chinese, Thai, etc. Â Super bizarre having sushi followed by Chinese noodles??
Our order:
-Two rolls of spicy tuna (added tempura flakes for a small charge) - delicious! Â Tasted fresh, very flavorful.
-Sweet and sour chicken - tasty, but nothing special ... typical of any Asian restaurant.
-Double pan fried noodles - just OK... Never thought I'd say this but PF Chang's version is better.
-3 flavors of creme brûlée - we didn't ask what the flavors were before we ordered, and I wish we had.  I figured they'd be fruit-based like blueberry or something.  The creme brûlée came in three small ramekins and the flavors were vanilla, tropical punch, and cotton candy.  Weird.
Overall, it was worth it with the Groupon but I doubt we'd come here and pay full price for anything other than a sushi lunch special or something.
This place is really known for sushi i think, but we went here for an working lunch. They have lunch specials starting 6.95 (8 including tax) which includes a soup, spring roll and entree. I went for a wonton soup n fried rice (veggie). The soup was tasty, fried rice was not oily. The place is super-clean, and has an environment conducive to eating. my colleague got a mongolian beef, it felt like small quantity.
Must go again when i have the courage to try sushi!
Rice Bistro is living proof that good sushi doesn't have to be trendy or overpriced. We enjoy the trendy places too, but when we want solid sushi without having to wait, this is where we go. In fact, we've started using Rice Bistro as our go-to spot for take-out sushi when we are too lazy to go out.
Their nigiri is always top-notch. If you haven't tried white tuna before, you should definitely give it a shot here. In terms of rolls, my wife and I always argue as to whether the First Choice roll or the Mexican roll is our favorite. Both are craveable. The Salmon Betta roll is also pretty good. If you are looking for something basic, the spicy tuna roll is also very good, is actually spicy, and is a good baseline for comparsion to other sushi places.
It does confuse me a little why Rice Bistro still has a Chinese menu when their sushi can really stand on its own. The answer is probably that people are still ordering Chinese, but the few times we've tried it, we haven't been nearly as impressed as we were with the sushi, and probably won't dabble in Chinese again.
I have never actually eaten at Rice so I can't tell you what the dining experience is like however I can tell you that our office loves to get takeout from here. I always go for a combo which is under $10 and includes 2 good size rolls, a choice of soup and a salad. I typically get the salmon avocado roll and it is always fresh - we have ordered well over a dozen times from here and there was only 1 time the rolls weren't tight.
The spicy tuna has a definite kick to it - but I am a wuss so others may find it just right. The soup is either hot and sour, wonton or miso which also has sliced mushrooms in it which are a nice touch. The salad is a decent side and the dressing is yummy.
My boss always gets the breaded lemon chicken and it comes with 2 good portions of all white meat and rice.
There are multiple lunch combos sushi and Chinese to choose from and most are under $10 - a great deal for fresh food.
I was so pleasantly surprised when we came here for sushi!! Â The fish is soooooooo fresh. Â It's the second best sushi place in Denver for me so far (best is Sushi Sasa). Â
I've sat at the sushi bar and regular dining and the service is fantastic at both so you really can't go wrong. Â They also have a small bar which is completely 100% separate from the dining room with a large flat screen TV. Â This is really cool if you are going solo (which I've also done). Â You can just hand out at the bar, get a glass of wine or whatever and watch TV while you enjoy your amazing food. Â It's isolated and quieter and cool. Â
If you sit at the Sushi Bar...talk to the chef and ask him to "surprise" you with pieces of Sashimi. Â We did that and I couldn't even tell you what we ate but it was some of the best sashimi ever.
