OK, this rating is mainly due to the service and somewhat bizarre response I got from the bartender.
Good things, the venue seems pretty nice, service was good. Â I was here on a Sunday late morning to watch a guitar recital. Â Â I think it was really nice that the River Rockhouse let the JC Guitar School use their venue (while the sold food and drinks).
We ordered food - burgers, kids had chicken nuggets - all were really salty and somewhat overdone. Â
My Mom-in-law had finished her 7-up and just wanted some water (to help out with all the salt no doubt), so instead of waiting around for our waitress (who was attentive getting us drinks but never returned after the food was served) I went to the bar to ask for some tap water. Â Bartender said "I can't give you tap water, I can only give you bottled water at $2" - this is crazy. Â At least one of the kids in our party of 11 had been served water in a plastic cup. Â I didn't make a big stink out of it, but this is getting ridiculous.
I wish I could give 2.5 stars.... I REALLY want to love this place.... really really really I do.... because I love seeing certain bands play live (I usually go to places like the Tilted Kilt to see said bands)....
I live in STC so it's convenient when those bands end up at the River Rockhouse.... my only issue is their sound system is HORRIFIC.
I've had to leave early because my ears were hurting SO bad!! TURN IT DOWN!! Or at least turn the treble down!
The times that I HAVE stayed the whole night thru the bands whole set, I wake up the next day half deaf with my ears ringing and I often wonder how badly I've hurt my hearing.
I never have that issue at places like Tilted Kilt, Bandito Barneys, Durty Nellies, The Lodge, Blarney Island...... just here!
I can't say anything about their food, never had it. Their drinks are a tad bit more then other local bars, but hey, you're getting to see live music SO it's kind of "whatever"
PLEASE! RIVER ROCKHOUSE!
FIX YOUR SOUND SYSTEM SO I CAN GIVE YOU MORE STARS!
Ok, I go to see local music pretty often. Â This place "kinda" breaks the bank if you're just looking to have a few beers and see some music. Â There is a particular band I see pretty often - the band's website and this bar's website didn't note that there would be two bands playing but that's ok. Â I noticed from the bar's website that the cover was going to be $10 regardless. Â That's definitely on the high end but, so be it...I like the band. Â When we got there the entire seating area was full, and it's not that big of a room. Â It was standing room only which was fine, but beers were $4 - we're talking domestic bottles so yeah... a little on the higher side for sure. Â I'm not sure if it was just the crowd, the place or what but it didn't seem like a night of really watching 80s hair music with the majority of the place sitting down so, yes...I've experienced better. Â I'm always down for trying out new places but not sure this would be the place I'd spend 40 minutes driving to for music next time.
