I went tonight with my husband and 6 year old son. Â We were so happy to be welcomed by an awesome karaoke team. Â Plenty of local "talent" were there and the atmosphere was fun and warm.
We all ordered burgers. Â Mine (a $7 double with cheddar) was juicy and delicious. Â We also ordered a 1/2 and 1/2 fries and onion rings to share. Â The rings were better than good, the fries were cold. Â Our very nice waitress took the news well and immediately accommodated us with an apology and brought fresh hot fries within a few minutes.
The add-on bar was a real miss: old lettuce, gross veggies, etc. Â I don't get it. Â Either stock it with fresh veggies and burger add-ons OR get rid of it altogether.
It was fun, very neighborhood feeling and the singing was really fun! Â We'll definitely go back for Saturday night karaoke and burgers!
I took a short drive over to Eliot, ME on a cold Thursday night to check out The Road House Tavern, formerly Muddy River Marketplace, which was my favorite BBQ place on the Seacoast. Both gravel parking lots on either side of the building were very full, but I managed to find a small quasi parking space in the back corner of the lot.
The place was redone and it definitely has the atmosphere of a loud rustic roadhouse with finished wooden walls and floors, dim lighting, flatscreen TVs (with sports), bar area, table seating and a warm fireplace. There's also a big porch area outside too. The place was very busy when I arrived here around 5:30PM, mixed crowd present including 2 large groups of college folks pounding down beers and wings and a few families with their youngins enjoying dinner.
I luckily found a table near the warm fireplace, just what I needed to beat the frigid weather outside. It took a while for a server to notice me and give me a menu. I couldn't drink, so I ordered a Diet Coke ($2) with one free refill included.
The menu is pretty straightforward, offering standard pub fare (a la carte) including big steakburgers, sandwiches, wings, appetizers, and Shaker Pond Ice Cream for dessert, at fair prices under $10. There's also a neat toppings bar to enhance your burger, which has fresh veggies, cole slaw, pickles, and dressings. Drink specials are offered.
I ordered the Basket half & half of fries & onion rings ($4) and a Steak Bomb Sandwich ($7). Since it was very busy, the food took a while to come out (25 minutes). The portions of hot food were good for the price. The onion rings were pretty good, light crispy batter outside, but the shoestring style fries were no good, overfried and very broken into small pieces, very crunchy with no potato texture inside. It was like having Durkee Potato Sticks which I snacked on as a youngin. The Steak Bomb was good, which had a mound of very well done grilled shaved steak with sauteed onions, green peppers, & mushrooms on a big lightly grlled & buttered bun. I tried some toppings as well. The pickles at the toppings bar were very fresh and the cole slaw was very good, crunchy and creamy, but not overwhelming. The wasabi dressing rocked. There was enough food for two meals, so I got the rest to go in a box.
The service was delayed, but my waitress was doing her best to keep up with the large volume of orders. I was offered a refill on the Diet Coke and the manager checked up on me briefly.
Overall, not a bad place to unwind with friends over drinks and food.
CLOSED on Mondays
Okay, now I love a good burger! Â My favorite places in the area are Wild Willies and York Best for burgers. Â Now I have a new favorite place for burgers! Â These burgers are served on a toasted butter roll, small patties. I had a double of perfectly seasoned all sirloin. Â To top it off they have a bunch of extra toppings to choose from that you can build right onto your burger. Â I had mine with a side of hand cut french fries. Â Outstanding place, great atmosphere, and friendly staff. Â I will be back, probably more times then I should.
Okay - Returned for a great meal, but the atmosphere is not so great. Â Last two Saturdays, really bad karaoke and no one in the restaurant. Â They should sell it as a great place to see the game. Â They need help defining who they are - karaoke is a real bad idea, unless you are the bar that gets the after work crowd in a big city. Â Not Eliot Maine. Â LOL
