I happened to find this place while waiting on a hair appointment nearby. I just walked in not really knowing what to expect. love the location. The atmosphere is really laid back and rustic. They have an open concept with a stage so it seems like there is live entertainment at times. The food was really good. I had these burger sliders with pimento cheese and they were pretty amazing. The service was decent.
There was a  small drip from an air conditioner coming from the ceiling and I felt like they shouldn't have put a table there. Other than that, everything was fine. I think it's a great place to eat downtown.

Located on the trendy 2nd Avenue North, Rogue is an convenient meeting place for downtown lunch or happy hour meetings. The room is huge, so no matter how busy it is (and it was today), there isn't much of a wait.

The menu will let you indulge with a variety of burgers dripping with cheese or stay on the light side with a salad or fish.  I was pretty hungry, but wanted to stick with a salad, so I opted for the black and bleu.   It's served with a lightly blackened sirloin over greens with caramelized red onions, tomatoes, and served with a roasted bleu cheese vinaigrette.  The meat was cooked exactly as I ordered.

We didn't have to wait long and the meal was enjoyed by everyone.

Service is horrible.  Period.  Burgers come plain.  Good luck getting condiments.   I asked twice, got pissed, then I signed up for yelp, logged on and posted this review while waiting for mustard.  Been siting at the bar for 40+ minutes.  Nobody has asked "How ya doin, need a refill?". Go bum some grub off a homeless man and you will do better.  There may be a reason to come here, but it's not for the food or service.

    Rogue Tavern, Downtown, Birmingham

    schizophreinic place

not for me anymore - - - - Rogue is like that old girlfriend that when you see her after a long time you are a bit excited but then you quickly remember why you broke up ! I had been a loyal forgiving customer making excuse after excuse for them to friends and even other customers for their poor service and management's bad attitude against any who dare complain. Maybe one day they will realize that customers who complain care , the ones who just leave & don't come back - - just don't come back. The customer is always right even if sometimes the customer is wrong . Rogue does not know what it wants to be , apparently recently they have decided they wanna go country ! lol , Food is generally good , some very nice personable staff ( if a bit UN-focused and without hospitality oriented leadership). I thought maybe it was just me , but have run into many lately who feel just the same as I do.( next door this Saturday for example) If this place really understood their demographic and the hospitality business they would be packed everyday , but they do not ,so they are not. This place will close on Friday night for a private event ! who does that in the bar & restaurant business ? ! hardly anyone that I ever heard of ! At one time as a regular this was my "Cheers" where I was treated well , and shown appreciation I thought for the large amount of $$$$ I had spent over the years there, however every since new management took over a years or so ago and I finally verbalized my UN-happiness with the poor service it's been downhill . Ok that's cool I will go elsewhere , what about the others who feel the same way ???? Nobody loves every place , you might love Rogue ! It's a great addition to downtown , a great venue . It is just way down my list now of places to go.

Great local beer selection. Awesome bleu chees burger sliders and fries.

This is a great spot for a quick, delicious lunch or a nice dinner. The weekends here are pretty packed with live music, sports on the large screens, and parties. It's one of the many happening places on 2nd Avenue North and a great starting or ending spot for the night. There is a great, rotating draught beer selection, as well.

I really love the beer selection in this place. The service was pretty good as well, the server was very attentive even though there was quite a bit of a crowd that night. I tried the sliders which were pretty solid, a little on the greasy side, but they were quite tasty. Their fries are not to be missed.

I've found Rogue Tavern to just be an A-Ok place. The way the place is set up is kind of awkward. It's a huge open space, but doesn't have the appeal of a large venue nor does it have an intimate feeling. Just a giant, mostly empty room. Even when a lot of people are there, it doesn't look crowded. I don't know, maybe some sort of room dividers would help. Sitting out back is the way to go on a good day.

Rogue will typically show football games on a big projector screen, which is the only time the awkward interior seems to make sense. I had to swear off going there to watch my Auburn games, though, after witnessing a disastrous AU/GA game last year.

I've only eaten there once so I don't know the food too well, but it was slightly more expensive than I was comfortable with. The quesadilla was pretty good, but 10 bucks good? Nah. They have a good selection of drinks, but who doesn't these days?

Would I do Rogue Tavern if it was the last bar on earth? Yeah, probably. Hopefully it'll never come to that, though.

In my experience Rogue is a bit hit or miss, mainly because of the crowd (or lack thereof). On the outset, they have a very large interior space and an elevated stage topped off with a massive screen perfect for football game watching. My favorite area is their back patio, but if the smokers beat you out there you'll be choking on their second-hand fumes while trying to enjoy your meal or drink.

When it first opened I went at least once a week. The ahi tuna burger is delicious and just the right amount of spicy. For my beer loving friends, their selection is vast and cold. As a gluten-free girl, and thus non-beer drinker, I usually go for a basic cocktail (vodka tonic with extra limes) when I'm at a beer dominated institution like Rogue.

Star deductions are because if you come here on the wrong night or at the wrong time, the crowd can be awkward... I don't know a better way to describe it. Something about all of that interior space being empty is a bit put-offish (whereas Pale Eddies is still cozy and pub-ish when unpopulated). The noise level can get a bit much as well. And then there is the issue I have with everywhere on 2nd - lack of parking and safety issues.

This dates back to my early days of Rogue patronage when a particularly deranged homeless man decided to come up to my just parked car and start banging on the windows and shouting at me (and it was raining and dark)... trust me this was right out of a nightmare and I did NOT know what to do. Eventually a bouncer from Rogue heard his maniacal cries and ran him off - but the damage was done. And, mind you, I was parked in the lot adjacent to Rogue, only a few spots in, not blocks away or anything. If you don't park in that lot, you must parallel park, something this girl is terrible at to say the least.

So, if the patio was bigger and less smoky, the service always top-notch (can be hit or miss), and the parking situation better, 5 stars it would be. For now I'll stick with 3, but, as always, I'm open to changing my mind, and, of course, will be going back to Rogue in the hopes of a 4-5 star experience!

I went for lunch and enjoyed it a lot.  Good service, great food that's at a great price point.  I ate a grilled tuna salad, I'm still thinking about it.  If they have iti say go for it.    My friend got the roast beef and loved it.

my one beef is, that they could fit more tables, we had to sit at the bar which we didn't mind but there is def space for more seeting.

Arrived about 10pm on a Saturday. Place was fairly full. Had a nice microbrew (Avondale 10%) and the shrimp and grits. Both were outrageously good! A pleasant surprise! I don't know Birmingham so I am happy to have found this place in an otherwise dead downtown.

Had lunch here with a group of 14--service was excellent with grouping tables together, refills, and getting the food out quickly and together.  Lettuce wrap appetizer was tasty, also ordered the hummus trio which was lacking much flavor. Ordered the steak quesadilla, which was very good. My wife had the veggie quesadilla and she would not stop raving about it (she LOVES goat cheese, that had to have something to do with it).  Will definitely dine here again, plenty on the menu to choose from.

Walked here from my hotel because I was told the burgers were amazing. Ok, well, first things first, the burger I had was not bad -- but not amazing. It was also the jalapeno burger and was so spicy I could start to smell colors and possibly see the future after just taking several bites.  The seasoned french fries were booooommmmb as was the white chocolate bread pudding. Great beer selection and my waitress was fantastic and chose a great independently brewed beer from Colorado...Overall it was a good experience but would need to try another burger if I am ever going to possibly call it amazing.

Rogue Tavern is the kind of place where no matter what you say about it, good or bad, you can almost always follow it up with "most of the time." It goes like this:

    - Rogue has great service, most of the time.
    - The bands are really good, most of the time.
    - My food has been perfect, most of the time.

And it's true. Your experience at Rogue is going to be hit-or-miss. You could order the same thing every single time and never get exactly what you expected it to be (with the exception being burgers, the Rogue chefs can grill up a good burger).

But more times than not this bar/restaurant/music venue gets it right and that's why I keep going back.

Another reason I keep going back to Rogue is it's versatility. It's the kind of place you could have a business meeting at lunch then go back that night with friends for drinks and a show.

Not quite the atmosphere I was expecting, but the place was pretty nice nonetheless. The lunch crowd was lively, full, and dominated by suits from the nearby business district. The chalked sign outside reads "seat yourself," which my wife and I missed as we strolled in, but a table was fairly easily found.

The teriyaki chicken lettuce wraps were a tasty appetizer, very flavorful if messy. However, as my wife said, it wasn't a $10 starter either in quantity or quality.

For the entrees, I got the Rogue Burger (just lettuce and tomato) with the fries (an excellent decision--it's like a happy marriage of Chick-fil-a and Arby's fries: thick waffle cut with a savory seasoning) and my wife got the pecan crusted chicken with creamed potatoes and grilled vegetables. Both meals were good, but not rush-back-and-eat-it-again good. The grilled veggies were more like stir-fry, but they complemented the chicken well.

All in all, $40 for a lunch is a bit steep in my book, especially for good-but-not-great food, hence the three stars. Even so, we'll probably go back at some point to check out some other menu items...and hopefully get out for under forty bucks.

Yummy! The mahi burger was delicious. Seasoned to perfection. The homemade kettle chips were delicious as well. Cool place for a casual dinner date or evening after work with friends! Prices= nothing over $15. Pretty good. Also happy hour ends at 7. Very attentive servers.

Great atmosphere for a fun night out with friends or a date! Went on a saturday night...very good drinks and a live band was playing some pretty good original music. All sorts of people, young and old were there having a great time. There's a patio out back that I'm sure is very nice during summer. We were so glad to find this place as it will definitely be one of our favorite bars here!

Rogue is a great addition to the downtown social scene. The food is several notches above your typical fry daddy bar food and while they may not deserve the "Best New Restaurant" designation they received from an uncited source, they have a few dishes that stand out. The fried pickles and zucchini are tasty, as is the braised pork taco. The homemade chips are too salty, but the burgers are spot on.

I've seen a couple of shows there. Both have been fine for bar rock. Beers are on the expensive side, but become quite reasonable after using the Birmingham Weekly card, which they take for food and drink.

went to the first ever rogue music fest and the entertainment was awesome while the food was excellent the portions were a bit small. We shared the sauted greek style crab legs-great, versatile dish, loved the feta in it! Also shared the seared ahi tuna- very good, not the best i have ever had but really good and had  btw./3 the personal cheese pizza with feta- very nice and tangy! There was a burger eating contest- a 2 pound pattie, 8 slices of cheese, tomato, lettuce, 1 whole red onion and french ffried onion. While none of the 4 contestants finished, it was impressive to watch. Next time I visit Bham I will try their regular size burger.

Save yourself some trouble, don't go here.  This place sucks!  My main gripe is the music!  The bands are way too loud and play nothing but covers.  The food is okay, but not worth visiting for.  This is a place that really should be located down 280 and covered in neon.  Don't go here if you want a sophisticated experience.

Went in here last night while at the Paint the Town Red" fundraiser event. Due to the event, the bar was slammed but I managed to squeeze into a stool at the itty bitty bar. After waiting like 10 minutes for any acknowledgement we decided to not attempt a full dinner but order one round of drinks and an appetizer.

We decided on the chicken wraps; great choice because these were surprisingly good. Most lettuce wrap orders never have enough meat but these definitely had plenty of the wonderful flavored chopped grilled chicken/peppers/onion mixture to go with the five pieces of Bibb lettuce.

I will give it another try sometime to taste one of the good looking burgers that passed by us

As far as the space itself- very large, open seating area with a nice large stage for bands in the front corner. I heard someone mention a patio but not sure about that...

Worth a visit if down by 2nd Ave N of Bham

I went here on a Friday during lunch. It was the first warm sunny day (March 19 - which is also National Oil Day in Iran) in a long time and the place was packed.  They have several burger offerings.  I went with the basic "rogue burger" which only has lettuce and tomato.  I wanted to get the pure burger experience before branching out.  I'll have to say its the best burger downtown, north of southside at least.   Fried zuchini was very good too.  I'm anxious to go back for dinner soon.

I had the Tuna burger and it was really good. Though I have to admit that the fried olives stuffed with cheese took top prize at lunch today. I'll be going back for lunch and have yet to go in the evening when they have bands playing.
