I waited way too long to try Rolls n' Bowls (originally thought the place was a head shop due to its name). Â It was fantastic. Â I was a banh mi virgin so I really can't compare it to other restaurants, but I was blown away. Â Delicious and fresh-tasting ingredients in a large portion for less than 4 dollars. Â I loved the competing flavors in my sandwich, fresh crunchy pickled vegetables and meat that didn't overwhelm. Â While the pate was new for me, the banh mi overall was definitely a win. Â My dining companion had the vermicelli and he was very pleased, particularly with the flavor of the shrimp. Â We started with some butterfly shrimp (served with a better quality sweet & sour sauce) and it was good, but I wouldn't call it a must. Â I highly recommend the boba tea. Â To a newcomer it's what Frappucinos only dream they could be, and slightly cheaper too. Â The honeydew and the taro flavors were both phenomenal. Â Service was good and the dining room was very clean and spacious, if kitschy. Â I wish I'd discovered this place when I lived nearby, but will definitely visit again.
Review Source:I am in love with this place. I eat there way more often than I should. I usually either get one of the Bun Bowls or their Lemongrass Beef as my main dish. YUMMY! They also have great spring rolls and the cabbage salad appetizer is so much better than you would ever expect. (Cabbage salad just doesn't sound appetizing to me, but theirs is great.) I have eaten the Bahn Mi sandwich (only $4 for a 5 -6 inch sandwich on a french baguette) and it was very good but has pate on it, I'm not a huge fan of pate.
The atmosphere is not impressive. Cheap tables and chairs and bright lighting. Not a place you would take a first date. But the food makes it worth everything.
I recommend you give this place a try.
Let me give you an accurate and upto date review on this restaurant. Â I got excited to find a Vietnamese restaurant during my business trip in Springfield, and I wanted to eat a good bowl of pho and Thai ice tea which are my favorite. Â The place and ambience was ok, and my husband and I went in there for lunch. Â We both ordered pho and Thai ice tea. Â When the food arrived, I was really disappointed with the skimpy amount of rice noodles in both of our phos! I can just grab the whole noodles with my chop stick and it appeared that it was for a toddler's portion lol! Â In addition, Â meat content was skimpy as well. Â When I talked to the waitress(seems inexperienced with customer service), she said she will talk to the owner for me. Â Five mins later, i saw the waitress grabbing the owner from the kitchen and they both made their way towards my table. Â For some reason they decided to stop halfway where I can hear them talking about my complaint a few feet from me! Â It was totally uncomfortable hearing that! Â What made the matters worse, the owner never came to talk or apologize to me! Â What I heared from the waitress in the end was that I need to pay for extra noodles. Â I would think that they should have at least apologize for not meeting my expectations and perhaps suggested giving extra noodles as a good will/incentive. Â
To sum it up-- pho noodle and meat were skimpy. Â Broth was salty and wayyyy too MSGey. Â The service sucks.
Totally disappointed with both food and lousy service and business sense. Â I will NEVER come back so shouldn't you.
Came here based upon the Yelp reviews, hoping that we would get some great Viet food after a long trip.
I cannot begin to describe how disappointed we were...but I will.
I ordered Pho Tai and it was SUPER salty and loaded with MSG. Â The bowl was big, but they only filled it half full with broth. Â The noodle and beef portions in the pho were quite meager. Â And to make it worse, the pho was nearly $8! Â Any other Vietnamese restaurant always gives large servings and rarely charges $8 for a bowl of pho unless it is super-sized. Â But the pho was super lousy and overpriced.
I also ordered Thai iced tea. Â It was obviously from a powder mix rather than brewed. Â It came premixed and very sweet. Â
The last straw was the horrendous service. Â They had some young gal that was obviously pretty new at waiting tables. Â I felt sorry for her and she kept running back and forth trying to find answers to our questions. Â When we brought up the bad-tasting pho, she went to talk with the owner, but the owner would not come to talk to us or try to make things right.
I own a small business myself and pride myself on good customer service. Â Even if I think the customer is crazy, I still do whatever I can to make them happy. Â But the owners of this restaurant don't seem to care about their food, customers or business. Â I will definitely never return and will steer everyone I know away from this restaurant.
To summarize:
BAD food
HIGH prices
HORRIBLE service
Good food for the most part. Â This place is fun, its got character and a pretty good Pho selection. Â Now you are not going high end here, but I don't think that's the point.
Good lunch spot. Â Big portions on the soups, not hard on the pocket book. Â The sandwich was OK, Pho bowls is there go to I think. Â Fresh ingredients, nice spot.
Service is friendly, don't make fun of the decor the place is just starting up. There are some technical stuff they are still working out with the orders, and service but give them a chance.
If its your first time try the Goi Cuon, and the Beef noodle Pho Bowl, nice little go to.
I have been brought here by someone who told me its good and 'you'll never expect it!" Â Now I tell people the same.
So I've been wanting to try this place for several months now and I am so glad I finally did. The spring rolls are giant, but everyone else has already said that. I got them and the pho tai with tofu instead of meat and it is one of the best things I have eaten in awhile. The portions are huge and the staff was very nice. I will be returning very soon.
Review Source:Rolls-N-Bowls is a pretty decent Vietnamese restaurant.
The interior lacks any flair and is a pretty run-down little strip shopping center.
I ordered fresh rolls (goi cuon)... which were (as mentioned in other reviews) humongous and very tasty. Â They were a little heavy on the mint to my taste; I prefer just a hint of it rather than it being a dominant flavor. Â Don't get me wrong, it wasn't like shoving a stick of Wrigley's Spearmint in your mouth, it was just slightly more than subtle.
The chicken noodle soup (pho ga) was very good.  The broth was delicious and the regular accompaniments(sprouts, herbs, jalapeños) came with it.  Add a little srichacha (rooster sauce) and hoisin and it's off to the races.  Definitely a great soup.
I give it 3-stars as the prices are slightly more than another place in town which serves the same cuisine which I like just a touch better and is available at slightly lower prices.
Still, a good dining experience particularly for the great soup they offer and the people who work there were very nice as well.
I was so excited to learn that Springfield was getting somewhere that I could order banh mi. I then heard a very negative review and kind of put the restaurant out of my mind until recently when I decided to go ahead and try it. We drove out of our way to get there, walked in and ordered and were told they were out of bread. That's fine, I understand--just a little disappointing. Today I decided to try again. I called ahead to place a to go order and what do you know? They're "out of banh mi." I'm not sure if I'll try again. If you do, CALL AHEAD!
Review Source:Well, I certainly did not expect to find high quality Vietnamese food in Missouri, but being on a work trip and generally somewhat trusting of Yelpers... I gave this place a shot...
It is GREAT! Â
The spring rolls were absolutely huge, I think there was 3 or 4 shrimp in each one. Â Was also something in the spring rolls that gave it an extra zip of flavor, could have been fresh cilantro or something but it was a great touch that I don't generally see other places do.
The pho was definitely on target with a good assortment of meat (you can go with a solo meat choice if you prefer).
The price? Â Right on target for Vietnamese food. Â Inexpensive!! Â (Dunno who put it as $$ but I'd hardly say a sandwich for $3.75 and a huge bowl of pho for $7 qualifies it as two-dollar-signs-expensive!?!?)
The building itself is nothing fancy, but it does not need to be. Â The food is what you're coming here for, and it definitely makes the grade.
Also, kudos to the young man who was serving our table today. Â Was really conscientious and polite. Â Keep up the good attitude!
I'll definitely be returning during the trip for Banh Mi (vietnamese sandwich! YUM.).
Had a late lunch there today. The sandwich could put any sandwich joint to shame - - fresh baked bread was GREAT. The ingredients were great, too, top quality. And they were low cost!
Pho is great, served with fresh sprouts, etc.
Imperial Rolls - well, let's just say I've waited since I moved from Charlotte, NC in the 80's  to have one that tasted like that! I love them made like that! Sauce was perfect for them, too, and you could tell it was home made cooking.
Person with me enjoyed the Boba much, too.
Service was outstanding. Green tea was a nice organic selection.
You can tell that somebody is paying attention to the small details when they select the ingredients and cook the food.
Location is a bit odd, kinda run down strip center, and the place is being renovated on the other side... and the decor is a bit plain, however the food makes up for it. I could see some people being put off by this, however. From the looks of things they are improving rapidly, and I'd eat their food if they served it in a shack!
I will go out of my way to eat here again.
