This place has great breakfast and a nice bar for those mornings you need something extra. notable items on the menu are the breakfast skillets and the pancakes.
Don't get too fancy with your drinks, a simple rum & coke, beer, or vodka and lemonade is your best bet.
Both the restaurant and bar are always clean, the waiters are friendly and very attentive.
Don't let the last review of this place scare you. The bar side if this joint is definitely Sketch Central.
The restaurant, however, is a DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH!
Clean. Friendly. And overall pretty good food for decent prices. Fresh two. Roma's prepares everything with only the best ingredients and produce.
Their classic American diner food is super yummy. Think burgers with thick, juicy patties and steak fries. THE BEST GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH in SOUTH CHICAGO. And turkey club sandwiches that don't skimp on the turkey, tomato, lettuce, and mayo.
Their Italian food also gets a B+ in my book. Minestrone is super hearty and filled with tons of different veggies. Try their lemon chicken pasta. Their calamari and bruschetta are also excellent.
Daily soup specials! Thursday is the best day...where else can you find CREAM OF RED BELL PEPPER SOUP?! yummmm! Can't beat that with their fresh baked bread they give to EVERY customer, even take out customers!
Family owned business! Mike, the owner, is an AWESOME guy and super funny. Make sure you check out the picture of him and Mayor Daley behind the register (YES, the mayor ate here!)
Breakfast here is also delicious. Their pancakes give IHOP a run for thier money. Try the breakfast special for $4.99! You get two pancakes, two slices of bacon, eggs any way, and two sausage links! That's a million times better than a McDonald's breakfast!
Careful, their hours change in the winter and they usually close around 5 or 6! Also, feel free to park in the Bank of America parking lot next door. Mike worked some kind of deal out with the bank so that his customers can park there! Yay!
This is the deep south, baby. The deep South Side, that is. Check out the address, which cracks me up:
9273 S. South Chicago Ave.
South South Chicago Avenue, and it's not even redundant.
We stopped into the bar to relax after we walked from Calumet Fisheries (see review by the same name).
There was a FAT lady smoking a cigarette when we arrived. Blech. And when she left, a guy went to the slot machines two at a time, which was God-awful; imagine: two slot machines played simultaneously with Chuck E Cheeses musical motif.
The Corona's were $3.50, so that was nice. The Mexican motel art was cheeseball, and we never did venture next door to see the restaurant.
Just an any-port-in-the-storm joint for a beer before making our way through Customs and Immigration.
