My most interesting restaurant visit ever.
For our 15th wedding anniversary, we decided to go to someplace special. Â We had never been to Ruth's Chris before and wanted to try someplace nice.
Upon arrival, our online reservation was in their system and the restaurant was ready for us. Â The hostesses were very sweet, took our coats for the coat check, then seated us promptly. Â The girl who sat us was friendly on the walk to the table. Â She asked us if we had been there before and if we were there for a special occasion. Â We informed her of our anniversary and as we sat she told us that Jennifer would be our server.
Ten minutes later, a busboy type stopped at our table to fill our water goblets. Â Meanwhile, since we were seated on an aisle, staff continued to walk past us over and over going to other tables.
Ten minutes after that another person brought us bread.
At that point, having sat for 20 minutes without being acknowledged, we made a decision to leave. Â As this restaurant is considered to be a fine dining experience and this was a special occasion, it was beyond offensive to be ignored and disregarded for as long as we had been. Â
As we were getting our coats back from the hostesses, we informed them how we had been ignored since our arrival and that was why we were leaving.
We sat in our car for 10 minutes deciding where to go next. Â The manager or staff had ample time to come get us and/or apologize.
As a postscript, while at our next restaurant, an hour later the manager of Ruth's Chris called my wife's cell phone. Â Since she had made the reservation online they had her cell number. Â Too upset with the experience, we didn't take the call.
We went there for my Birthday Dinner, the web site and FaceBook site said they had a promotion going for an 8oz. Lobster Tail and 6oz. filet for $46.85. When we asked about it due to it was not on the menu. The server said that was a corporate thing and it was not available at this location. If it is a corporate thing than why would it not be corporate wide? The website and Facebook did not say...only at certain locations. I thought it was false advertising on their part. Kinda put a knotch in my Birthday dinner.
Review Source:Not our first visit to RC, took our son here for his HS Graduation celebration dinner...I "thought" they had a dress code and expectations for clientele behavior when you are expecting your patrons to shell out above average coin for a meal. Â Customers walking throughout the restaurant with their kids looking like they literally just came from the beach, flip flops, baseball caps, shorts and t-shirts, and let's not forget the three twenty something ladies (we'll call them that) who apparently one lost her babysitter for the evening so had to bring her toddler who sat on her lap screeching for most of our meal, while they drank martinis and carrying on all night. Â .For such a "classy" joint I kept expecting a manager at some poing to ask them to leave or shut their kid up :-) but neither happened. Waiter was nice but way too speedy, trying to get us in and out to turn his tables it was apparent. I had to tell him "we are NOT in a hurry tonight" . Â Granted all would be acceptabe if we were at a Chili's or Applebees, but a Ruth's Chris???? Â Cmon', we dropped over $200 for this meal and the atmosphere made it completely a marginal at best experience. Â The only conclusion I can make of this is that they are hurting for business and have lowered their standards for dress code and customer behavior because they don't want to turn away ANY business, but RC in the long run it's going to cost you business because people like us will go elsewhere unless we want to go the bar for a quck drink, otherwise we probably won't be back to dine anytime soon.
Review Source:The steaks are great. Â Served on a sizzling hot platter and broiled to the correct doneness- it can't be beat.
For us, we like sitting in the bar- less pretentious. Â And yes- it is expensive- dinner for the two of us for steaks, salads and side runs about $100. Â But when you really need a good steak, this is the place to go in Granger/Mishawaka.
Granted, when we go to Michigan to the summer house, I expect to starve. Â So, the fact that we can drive about 35 minutes into Indiana and get to a Ruth's Chris and not just some chain fast food is a miracle. Â That already put them in the three star range! Â Add to that the fact that my first real date with my husband was at Ruith's Chris in Chicago and this gets another star for nostalgia. Â And, once inside the place, everything went wonderfully. Â I was worried that we were too casual for the restaurant, but not at all. Â The waiter we had was super friendly and very helpful in recommending a cocktail and salad for me - both were yummy. Â Steaks are always perfect and the whole experience made me less releuctant to come back on vacation to the summer house - which is a miracle.
The decor of this location is really spectacular too - it puts the Chicago location to shame - so bright and open and clean!
This review is long over due. My husband and I both love steaks and have dined at many prime steakhouse's with Ruth's Chris in one of the top spots. When I first found out that they were bringing one to the Mishawaka area, I didn't believe it until I saw it for myself. Since it's opening a couple of years ago we have dined here several times and have yet to be disappointed. The service is always great and the food is consistently good. Yes the prices are on the high side but here you are getting what you paid for, a quality meal with excellent service. In my opinion, it's worth every penny and will continue to dine here.
Review Source:I used to be a fan of Ruth's Chris, but the quality and service at this location has steadily declined.
My most recent experience was in the bar where we experienced total lack of customer service. Â I can't commit on the food quality since we were never provided the opportunity to place an order.
Skip Ruth's Chris and find  a great locally owned restaurant like Temper Grille (across the street), Main St. Grille in Mishawaka or LaSalle Grill in downtown South Bend!
Over rated and over priced for the fare. Â I had been asking to go since the restaurant opened in Granger (I love steak)! Â We expected an experience like the Chop House in Chicago -- outstanding steak. Â I ordered a ribeye steak Pittsburgh rare. Â What a disappointment, it was medium on the inside and charred so badly on the outside that the first half inch was burnt and inedible (I cut off a fourth of the steak). Â It was also grainy and dry. Â My husband routinely makes a better steak on our grill. Our server Andrea was superb, but you always fear sending food back, or I would have. Â The sweet potatoes, lobster tail, and carrot cake were exceptional, but the brussel sprouts were so greasy that I only had a couple bites. Â The black cardboard chargers (place mats) were disgusting! Â If you flipped them over they had old food stuck to the bottom of them. Â It was over $400 for the seven of us on my birthday, and we only ordered 2 drinks and 3 desserts. Â We won't be back.
Review Source:As you can tell by my many reviews of steakhouses, I am a true lover of prime steaks and of course, fine dining.
I had high hopes for the Ruth's Chris in my new town. It is located in a cute, brand new shopping center, just minutes from my house. We arrived at 6:30pm and headed into the bar area. The Notre Dame game was just wrapping up and the bar was pretty busy. We found a seat at the bar and I inquired about their Prime Hour and the bartender said they don't do that. Right off the bat I was sort of put off... her attitude wasn't great, she gave me a look when I asked about happy hour and then walked away without taking my order.
My hubby was at the front seeing if we could get one of their cute booths in the bar area... success... the hostess led us past beautiful booths w/ TV's, away from the bar crowd still watching the game and stuck us in a booth right behind the crowd (and there were tons of booths, empty, completely away from them). No consideration.
Our server... Will... was friendly and knowledgeable about wine. He was attentive, but not pushy or too nearby, which I like!
We ordered the Carpaccio... and it was decent, though Fleming's is much better (but hey I'll take what I can get since the closest Fleming's is 90 miles away in Chicago). We ordered our "usual" Ribeyes and unfortunately mine was over cooked. Paul didn't mind, so he switched me. I've never had my steak prepared wrong at a Ruth's Chris (or other fine steakhouse) so this was sort of a bummer. The Prime cut was also not as fabulous as previous ones I'd had. I'm not sure if the experience clouded my food... but so far, it wasn't great FOOD and that was surprising.
For wine we had the Pine Ridge Cabernet and a Sin Zinfandel (the zin wasn't good). The Pine Ridge Cab is to die for and we both had that for our second glass. For dessert, we opted for just a glass of Port each.
With our bill @ $200 including tip... I was not impressed. I will, of course, more than likely visit again when I have a hankering for some Prime meat... but all in all this Ruth's Chris left a bad taste in my mouth.
