They have lost me as a customer for quite some time.  I'll probably go back because it's so close to where we live,  but it may take a while.

We went last night to celebrate my son's birthday.  I called ahead the night before for a reservation and the table was set up when we got there.  What they failed to tell me beforehand was that the AC was not working.  I guess it had gone out sometime that day.  I felt like since I had a reservation already made, it would have been a nice courtesy for them to call me to let me know about the AC issue and that would have given me an opportunity to see if I wanted to keep the reservation or cancel it and go somewhere else.  I got no such call and it was miserable (and we're having a bit of a heat wave in Baltimore).  It started out not being that bad, but on top of that, the service was kind of terrible.  Given the circumstances, when most people would have walked out the door, I felt like the customer serivce could have been stepped up a notch.  How about a free drink, free dessert, money off the check -- something -- to compensate for us being a little on the hot side while we ate our dinner.  Speaking of dinner that took probably about 30-40 minutes to come out of the kitchen which led to more aggravation by me and our party.

I've always had good experiences here, so I wouldn't have expected this from them.  I was there on St. Patrick's Day and the crowd was a mob scene (to be expected for an irish pub) but the service was excellentt!

Nice Irish Bar. Good beer selection. You can get Carlsberg which is nice plus a large selection of other beers. The Spinach dip is phenomenal, everything is pretty good but that definitely stands out.

The beer was good & the service was great. The food was not what I am used to. The menu is different than it used to be and not for the better unless high prices is better.  The Shepherd's Pie was ok. That is it. Just ok. It was too sweet & had none of the flavors I equate to good pie. Also the pastry was sweet & slightly stale. My roommate got the St.Brendan's Pie. He was unsure the seafood was good. It had an "interesting" flavor and was overly salted. Also, it was only seafood and a pastry shell for too much money. The curry sauce for the "Curry" fries was light in flavor. The calimari was good but a small portion. I could go on but will say this, go elsewhere for food, but if it's good beer & friendly bartenders you want, this is your place!

This place just sucks. The food has very little flavor and isn't anything CLOSE to authentic Irish food. They even use middle eastern spices in their poorly crafted shepherds pie. Of which they actually CHARGE you a whole dollar extra to get it with crust!! The service is ok, but I find the closer you sit to the kitchen entrances the more you hear how fake all the severs are. I've been there a few times sitting at the bar listening to the girls trash talking their tables. Very unprofessional. I'd like to say I'll keep coming back but tonight is definitely the last night they swindle away my money!

It makes me sad to read the mixed reviews about this place; I've always had great experiences each time I've been here. And let's be honest, it's hands down head and shoulders above that other Irish place up 83. Granted, I really only order the Fish and Chips (which I think are very tasty) or the Rachel but both are consistent, fool-proof items for me. I can't quite attest to the quality and/or authenticity of the rest of the extensive menu but you won't be let down with either of those.

I think the atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the service is great, especially at the bar. The quality of service and attentiveness never suffers the busier they get which is admirable. This is a pretty solid enjoyable dining experience in my opinion.

Came after a funeral for a couple drinks and lunch. All the good irish beers were on tap. And they had a generic, but my favorite irish whiskey tullamore dew (sp?). Shepard's pie for lunch. Atmosphere was good and the manager serving us was friendly. The price is high so i dont think i could go here on night out.  I would like to find a irish "pub" that isnt expensive.

Like many before me have said, I entered Ryan's Daughter for the third time hoping to find a neighborhood spot with charm and decent food. The charm has declined precipitously from prior visits, and the food is god-awful.

The soup of the day was called Gazpacho, a thin, runny can of V-8 poured into a bowl, with yesterday's leftover potatoes diced and thrown in with the bit of onion and green pepper (cooked - in Gazpacho!). This is probably pretty close to what may have appeared on the table of an Irish family of 12 during the Troubles, but I don't think that is what they were going for. Every other dish served to our party of four was of the same caliber as the "gazpacho," and not even worth mentioning by name, except a fried chicken sandwich, with fries, that was about as good as one would expect from such a choice.

Even the Guinness, though served with a decent head, had sat so long at the bar before being served - 20 minutes after we ordered - it was warm and lacked and carbonation.

Having just returned from two weeks in Ireland, we were desperately trying to recreate just a smidge of the charm and hominess of the corner pubs we experienced. But, begosh, it's not here.

We won't be giving Ryan's Daughter another chance to find its Irish charm.

This is my husband's number one place; he always wants to come here!  I like it a lot of myself: good selection of beer; nice variety of food; home-y, authentic Irish feeling to it.  Definitely a neighborhood favorite in the Belvedere area.  The food is nothing to write home about, but it's pretty good, in my opinion; however, my husband thinks the shepherd's pie is just about the best thing he's ever had.  The cream of crab soup tastes a little bit like it came out of a Campbell's can.  But overall, always an enjoyable experience here.  Have never had bad service, either.

    Just Drinks, no Dinner.

Ryan's Daughter. An Irish pub at the site of a former Chili's (yes, I am dating myself), that existed prior to the area around it becoming the happening place it is now. And still, somehow, I never made it there. Well, some things can be remedied.

Arriving at the pub on a recent Saturday night, one was immediately struck by the semi-drunken golf troupe disembarking from a strategically "in-the-way" bus blocking what sparse parking may be found in the vicinity. Kilts were everywhere, making this perhaps the most gaelic of golf rounds played in MD in recent years.

On the outside, and then on the inside (at first) the place certainly looks Irish enough, with the wood paneling and the Guiness signs, and even comparative clocks in the corner showing the time in Baltimore and the far end of Ireland (albeit the "wrong" time, since Ireland is not 4 hours ahead, but 5. Eh. The downside: massive tv's, the ruin of every "pub" in this fair land of ours, since there is nothing that says pub less than a fixed tv (one rolled out on a soccer/rugby/cricket day is something different).

Since we went for drinks, we stayed at the bar, finding that our group was the youngest by about 1.5 decades or so. Not too bad. The problem was the bartender, who, though irish, somehow managed to pour a guinness that was still pearling when it got to me, and managed to repeat versions of this trick for my drinking companions. We were wondering whether that was why he left Ireland....

The final issue, and the one that led us to leave, was the band. Ok, Irish rock is good and all, and the songs are emotional and accompanied by air instruments, but whoever instructed the bag pipe man to play right into the microphone deserves to be shot. The bag pipes are loud enough as is, so amplifying the noise in a standard restaurant-size space was somewhere beyond painful.

A decent bar, but perhaps safer in the dining room.

I have been to Ryan's Daughter many times and never had a bad experience. I am not a fan of corned beef and cabbage, but do enjoy the bookmaker sandwich, steak boxty, iron skillet salad and occasional grasshopper. It is a good place to go if you want to have a relaxed conversation and soft lighting in a family-friendly atmosphere. The staff aims to please, the decor makes you forget that you're in Baltimore City, and as one companion once said, you can balance a quarter on the Guinness.

At first my husband was nervous going there because of some bad reviews he read. I told him we have always wanted to go and if its horrible then we now not to go back... It wasn't . I loved the atmosphere and the service was good. My husband had a raspberry flavored beer that was really good. We had crab dip ( which if you didn't know very Celtic dish...) very creamy I love crab dip . I love it even more when there is not a shell anywhere in it. There wasn't. we both had steak . Both were prepared to our liking and very flavorful . All around good food.

My wife and I went here for the first time today, and we really enjoyed it. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, and when we ordered Shepherd's Pie she recommended getting it served inside a pastry (no extra charge, but a non-menu option) and she also suggested I get the fish and chips. Both dishes were excellent.

The ambiance is terrific. I don't know what it's like a meal times (we were there at about 3 in the afternoon, so not peak time), but it seems like a place that wouldn't get too noisy and probably has a local following. It is located across from the Belvedere Square Market, which is another selling point--a great place to relax before or after shopping.

If there was a drawback, my wife's Shepherd's Pie arrived only on the warm side--obviously well-cooked and safe to eat, but we thought perhaps it sat for a moment while they got my Fish and Chips ready. It was not only edible, though, but very good, so this is only something to look out for, not a major problem. I very much recommend Ryan's Daughter.

I really like this place! This was our "official" Workplace Celebration Meeting Place (comings, goings, promotions, etc.). Never been here for dinner- only for lunch.
But the food has always been excellent; the service timely and spot on, esp. for a business lunch crowd, and the atmosphere has that nice cozy-quaint faux-nick-nack ambiance you expect from an Irish-style pub. Lots of dark wood, knick-knacks scattered about, fireplaces ,etc.-- very nice and cozy!
Fish and chips has been my favorite- big, meaty fillets, lots of crispy-salty fries, nice sweet-barely dressed yet still moist 'slaw. Good stuff!
Good stuff!  Never too crowded for lunch.
As far as booze and stuff goes- working lunch on government employee time = no booze, despite what you may think about govt. jobs! So I can't review that.
Overall, a very nice place if you're in the area.

Love this place!  I was a regular when I was a student at Loyola, but we returned last weekend and had a great time.  I love how each nook in the restaurant offers a different decor and feel.  (Note: Sitting by the fireplace is a lot of fun, but it can get toasty there!)  The service is great and the Irish bartenders definitely add to the restaurant's "authenticity" ;-)  Beers are $5.25 on tap and they have a great variety that includes Harp, Guinness, Smithwick's, Sam Adams, Beamish, and more.

I can't comment on the food since I haven't eaten there since the management change, but the ruebens and spinach and artichoke dip used to be out of this world!

I have always had mixed experiences here, the last few times the service has been good and there has always been a decent crowd in the bar and dining areas. The regular menu has some solid options and the portions are generous. None of the food has ever 'wowed' me but I have had some decent meals.
I do take offense to the food they serve for the childrens menu. The fact that anyone would use nacho cheese sauce on a kids macaroni and cheese is disturbing.

I'm spoiled I think by @BrianBoruPub in Severna Park. While the atmosphere, details and decoration of the establishment makes me feel like I'm actually in a pub in Ireland, I thought the food was only good. Not great, not bad, just decent.

The potato leek soup was very thin, not thick at all like what I'm used to. And while I liked the actual large skinned potato chunks and whole leeks, it wasn't as savory and warming as I prefer.

I also ordered the beet and goat cheese salad. I felt that my spinach wasn't entirely cleaned and the beets, while there, would have been a better compliment to the meal had they been chopped up into chunks, rather than slathered across the salad.

My boyfriend liked his sandwich, but to me, it didn't seem much different than one you could order from your local deli.

And finally the beer. I thought my Magner's tasted funny, which my boyfriend suggested may have been due to dirty beer lines.

Anyway, I'd go again if the occasion called for it, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for it.

PS if you do go, say hi to Owen for me. He's the Irish bartender behind the bar. He may be the best thing about that place.

Take it or leave it, IMO.

The only thing edible in this restaurant is the Guinness draft beer. The food is horrendous. The first time we ate here my kids ordered chicken tenders; after waiting an hour they arrived and when we cut into them, they were raw. The service was horrible. If you walk in with kids they seat you in a darkened corner away from the main area, surrounded by other families with kids.
We gave this place a second try (I wish we hadn't!) last night, again--seated in a dark corner-poor service, had to send the soda back because it tasted like club soda. My kids ordered the mac and cheese this time and they couldn't eat it; it was basically cold pasta noodles with a spoonful of processed cheese mixed in...I could barely get one biteful of it down. I have nothing good to say other than at least they can't screw up a good pint of Guinness!!! Never going back!

(09/10/2011) Stopped in to see our favorite bartender, Derek, from Dublin, and previously from Dougherty's Irish Pub.  He brings some realness to a place that, ambience-wise, is a little hammed up.  It seems to be a popular place with the rugby-loving crowd.  They pull some nice pints (Magner's, Guiness, Calrsberg, Blue Moon for example) and have lots of nooks and crannies in the ersatz "old country" pub for you to consume them in.  Place is conveniently located to the few, but bright, attractions in Govans, primarily the market at Belvedere Square, especially Neoopol Savory Smokery and Senator Theater.

My husband and I ate here with our two small children and it was an awesome experience from start to finish. Our server was very prompt, attentive and most of all she was great with my children. When they wanted to say something to them she was engaging and didn't dismiss them. My four year old gave her a picture she drew and the server was so kind to my daughter when she took it and treated it like it was something very special. The food was great to boot! Very tasty authentic Irish food that was filling but not super huge portions. The only negative which was very small was the bathroom paper towel dispenser didn't work and one of the stalls were locked from the inside. Other than that is was an awesome family dinner.

    What you need to know:

*It's quiet inside, even though there's usually music playing. It's rarely ever busy, but the breakfast buffets are pretty popular, and they get busy in the bar area for NFL games.

*By the fireplace is some great seating, especially in winter. The character of the restaurant's interior is unique, and you should look around the first time you walk in.

*The service is fantastic. I've been many times, and I've always gotten top-notch customer service.

*The menu changes often. I theorize that they change the menu seasonally, or shrink the menu to save money. The food is usually very good, and I've only ever had a few misfires, but that happens at lots of places - and even then, a misfire here means it's still good. All of the food is pretty heavy, though.

*The prices are very reasonable. An appetizer, soups, main course, and several beers for the woman and I was surprisingly moderately priced. They have specials all the time, and they have a roaming half-priced burger special you should keep tabs on.

I hope the restaurant does more business, because I still think the place has a lot of potential if they were more adventurous with the menu.

originally looking for a sandwich/ soup place but luckily for us that place was closed so we meandered across the street to Ryan's Daughter in Belvedere Square.  Huge, huge Irish pub place/restaurant.  You know when you walk into an Irish place and there's the Irish music going on...for some reason I never except an actual live Irish band playing.  Nice.  It was a Sunday evening.  Although the bowl of soup that I had was done in 5 sec, it was good but maybe too pricey for the amount they give.  Great atmosphere however and great service.  Lots of seating.  Good beer.  Nice place in Hampden.

Working in Belvedere Square it is of course convenient for me, but if I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't eat or drink there. Much more economical than the market across the street. I know people love the soups at Atwater's, but for a few dollars more I can get a big meal that I enjoy. Reading some of the other reviews it must be different menu options as I haven't had the lamb stew but I've always enjoyed the boxtys, shepherd's and cottage pies. I also recommend the Tom Ryan Grill which is something I'll get if I need something to go.

Then there's the beer. They have a wide selection but it always feels right ordering a Smithwick's, or a Holy Trinity if I'm feeling like variety.

Atmosphere's nice and I've been there when it's busy, and at 2:30 in the afternoon when we have our own personal server. Sometimes the wait staff can be slow, and it always seems like a different person is there so possibly their turnover is higher than other restaurants.

Funny enough I've watched football there plenty of times and there's usually foot ball (European football? Ok, soccer.) on at least one of the TVs. It's not really a sports bar of any kind, but because of the setup, good beer and location it's been a good meeting place for friends. One time I was there in the same spot at the bar listening to a comedic singer which was also pretty entertaining.

I want to like this place more but something prevents me.  Nice big space, kitchy but not overdone Irish tones on the walls.  Nice size bars.  Food is marginal but the boxty is fun.  It's a nice place if you're up in Belvedere Square area.

We've been going to Ryan's Daughter for years as a family. Initially drawn to the venue due to it's child friendly environment, we soon realized that Ryan's Daughter offered more. Although they ran into hiccups during a recent management change (sale), they appear to have regained their footing.

The menu has a very nice selection of traditional Irish dishes, pub-grub and seafood. One of the best burgers around although for awhile, the inconsistency for  a "medium-rare" order was troubling. They must have corrected the BTUs in the kitchen b/c they're back on track. Strong selection for children including a killer grilled cheese.

Great selection of beers. Borderline "Literary Pub". Cool low-key traditional Irish live music and local artists. Serves as a wonderful uncomplicated night out with an unpretentious crowd. Cosy style, great craic - convivial and chatty atmosphere. Operates as a great meeting-point throughout the greater Towson area.

An oasis of socializing. Young. Old. And everything in between.

We venture in after a nearby place's patio was full, surprised how empty it is - 10% full, though it is Monday night. My colleague and his family were never impressed here but we scored outdoor seating, alone, almost the perfect place for a 2 year old to run free, except when she tried to escape. That was fun.

But back to the food. Boxty. What is this. I've never heard of this! Big Fan of new food. When it arrives, looked like a burrito based on the thickness, but like a blintze Mom use to make based on looks and texture. Tasty!! Chicken, Spinach n some secret sauce that left me wanting more as I emptied the plate.

Haters to the left. I love coming here BECAUSE it's empty. The food is usually pretty spot on, even during St. Patty's Day. The bartenders are really awesome and funny. They really make the whole experience worth it. Decently priced, great decor, and again, excellent bartenders. Love it there.

This is one of those establishments that I really WANT to love.  The decor is great.  I love the location.  And at times, the food can be quite good.

My biggest complaint about Ryan's Daughter is its inconsistency.  The menu has very nice offerings that one would expect from an Irish Pub, and while nothing stands out as being life-changing on any level, it can be good.  However, my last trip there was disappointing.  I got the lamb stew, which I have ordered before and thought quite tasty.  This time they served it with bread that was frozen in the middle.  The lamb stew was served lukewarm which to my thinking is unforgivable.  My wife got the fish and chips which was also substandard.  Unfortunately, this was not an isolated mediocre meal.  Inconsistent is the best way I can describe this place.  Sad, because it is in my neighborhood, and I want very much for them to succeed, but not if they are producing unacceptable food.

Went for lunch, place was empty. Right there should have sent up a red flag. Husband ordered fish and chips he rated it a 5 on a 1-10 scale. I ordered corned beef and cabbage. Small deflated dirty dishrag piece of cabbage, took 1 bite was as if someone dumped salt on it, and I like salt. The corned beef was very fatty. Couldn't eat, sent back. Replaced it with vegetable lasagna. Can't go wrong with veggies and cheese right? Well I'd rate it a 5 also. Will NEVER go back. I was surprised that a manager would  not have come out. The waitress was apologetic but not much of a personality going on, no eye contact. Think that she was annoyed to have to leave her coworkers to wait on us, just going through the motions.

Came back again for lunch yesterday.  This place was emptyyyy.  I hope they get more business for happy hour/dinner because there were like 5 tables with people.

Service was better this time (as it should have been considering there was like no one there).

I liked the crab cake sandwich last time so I ordered it again.  Here's the thing... it was no more than 1/3 of the size of the one last time, BUT it tasted soo much better.  The bun it was on was different, lightly toasted and buttery as opposed to the big, giant, doughy kaiser roll it was on last time.  The fries were still really good.

Soo I feel like a 3 is still a good rating.  Good choice for a nice, quiet lunch in the area.

I used to love this place! The service has gone done a bit and they also seemed short staffed. But the cheese platter thing they used to give out, the steak and portobello boxty, the chicken and spinach boxty, the f-ing shepherds pie, and the fish and chips are sooooooo good! My brother used to always get The Don... it's huge and it's amazing. I've also had the bookmaker which is really good as well. I would dine here again if I was still living in the area. It's also a fun place to go on St. Pattys day and get wasted to live irish bands and music.

We went for our anniversary last month.  It was a Tuesday and it wasn't very busy.  I ordered the St. Brendan's Pie.  The puff pastry was burnt on one side.  I showed it to the waitress and she giggle and walked away?  The filling was good but would have been better with a little less sherry.  My husband had the fish and chips (most of the people around us were eating them, too).  He found them OK but wouldn't order them again as they needed more flavor. The decor is really nice.  If I ever go back I'll ask to be seated in one of the small outer rooms.  The bar looked like it could be a happening place on a weekend.

I had a great time here! The selection of food is outstanding, with a lot of items I had never encountered before at an Irish pub. The beer selection was great (Dogfish head a-whut-whut!!!) but the stand-out aspect was the service. Everyone was incredibly attentive and quick to make recommendations. The ambience and decor are nice, and I'd love to come here at night when the crowd begins to fill up. I was here in the early evening and it was pretty quiet, but dinner was enjoyable nonetheless. I look forward to my next visit!

Charming Irish Pub.  I love how it's set up in a giant circle.  It makes the restaurant feel enormous and cozy at the same time.  It's unique and timeless the food is excellent quality, possibly even too good for traditional pub fare.  I'veThey seem to always have some sort of live entertainment as well.  Also a great place to have a few beers with friends.  I haven't made it for brunch yet, but it looks amazing as well.  Reason enough to go back.

This is the perfect place for parents or other unadventurous eaters. The atmosphere is nice, the service is prompt, and the food is good. There's nothing great about Ryan's Daughter, but that's ok. You don't come here because you want something great, you come here because you want a solid meal for a reasonable price from some place that's not a chain restaurant.

Ryan's Daughter is as good and authentic an Irish pub as you're going to find this side of the Atlantic. The food is very good for pub fare, and the atmosphere is relaxed, yet lively. This is the kind of place where you could either go with the boys (or girls) for a couple beers, or take the folks to when they come in from out of town. A good beer selection is also available, and the bartenders seem to enjoy their jobs enough that it reflects positively in their attitudes.

This is a must visit if this is your first time to Baltimore.

A great intimate Irish pub atmosphere, but sophisticated enough to bring your in-laws.

Located in Belvedere Square, I make sure I eat here once a month when I am craving their famous 'Boxty's' which is basically an Irish type of kiesh dish that is stuffed with various types of veggies and meat. My personal favorite is the Steak and Portabello Boxty.

The pricing is moderate, but definitely worth it.
