best prices for a bar..cash only

I don't know about all the bad reviews. It's your typical dive bar! Great drinks at great prices!! Sure, some of the people are weird, but nice and tolerant of outsiders!

If you're not a regular, you'll feel like an outsider if you come there. There are a few good guys who are friendly, but they're a real gang, one that never stops talking, joking with each other. That's cool, but it's there world, not yours cause you're not part of their clique. Bob, the bartender, is a good guy. Very funny. A negative-attitude type guy to the left of me didn't like me and got involved, putting me down a few times when I started talking, trying to fit in. Beer is good and cold, though.

Ridiculously strong drinks at more than ridiculously low prices and friendly local crowd that welcomes people from out of town.  Good find, I'll be back!

When I need to meet a friend or two to talk and drink, this is one of my top spots.  Low cost, high proof, easy in/out, not too loud.  Especially like bringing people who haven't been here before.  Like many other reviewers, I've run up & down Woodside road for decades and never noticed the place until my Yelp search.  Kinda like another favorite, Mervyn's Lounge, for those of you in Mt. View.

Now couple the Saddle Room with another winner, Chuck's Donuts, down the road and we have a happy couple!

Oh my god. This place makes STRONG drinks. And cheap ones. The decor and clientele are nothing to shout about, but they will get you butt-wasted, whether that is your intention or not. Be sure to be within walking distance to a friendly crashing spot or have a DD. I can't go any further describing my experiences here... it's just too embarrassing.

Cheap... Cheap... and did I mention... Cheap? After a couple 3 dollar jack/coke's you start fantasizing living right next to this place. oh.. the sweet life ;)

Hmm... I love a good dive just like the next person, but for some reason I get more of a sketch vibe from The Saddle Room as opposed to a fun loving laid back atmosphere I generally associate with dives.

Not sure if this was because the last time I was here I rolled in with 4 of my cutest girl friends (no dudes, ie: loads of boozers and creepers staring without reservation), or if I've just grown up in the area and always have viewed the saddle room as being extra seedy.  Either way, I'm not opposed to dropping in again for a drink.... maybe next time with the bf in tow!

.................Crickets! That's about all you're gonna get around here!

Haha, it can get pretty bad at times, a lot of drunks during the day but by night it occasionally turns into a chill spot to get some cheap drinks. Bartenders are chill and friendly (Sam & Bob) and look out after the best for all in the bar. Everyone is friendly and knows each other somewhat.

Setting: Indoor and outdoor. The latter includes a heater as well as additional benches for patrons to take a seat at. Also, a second bar outside although I can't remember the last time it was open, honestly.

Out of towners usually get a weird vibe because it appears to be an avg dive bar but it can be chill at times. If it's your first time check it out with a few friends, guys and girls because chances are if you roll deep with women you'll get hit on and guys will try to pick up who are mostly in their 30-40s.

    Welp, Enjoy!

maybe its because im not a local...but i REALLY dont like this place. i keep going back, hoping that my san mateo/san carlos friends are right and you just have to get used to it. but 3 trips later and i still groan when they mention where we are going.

they dont take cards. what kind of place these days doesnt take cards?!? thats my biggest gripe, along with the fact that there is always only one bartender. granted, he's easy on the eyes, super nice and once you order, you get your drinks tout suite. however, even with a big rack, youre still gonna be waiting at least 7-10 minutes for a drink. maybe cuz im not a regular? *shrugs*

i do like the outdoor area. would be even better if there were ever a bartender at the outdoor bar.

maybe it'll grow on me. probably not though.

My first bar in Redwood City.  Deemed "The last Neighborhood bar", and it kinda is.  Great memories, great people, and good times.  I suggest the back patio area as the place to be.  Don't venture in there before 5 though.  Patrons remind you of the bar in Star Wars

Sam makes a mean Scooby Snack in a jiffy!!! Definetely has neighborhood bar appeal without the 'hood...

Friendly patrons and drama free environment for all age groups.

This is the type of bar I want to be going to for the rest of my life with my own "cheers" crew!  It is self described as 'redwood cities last neighborhood bar!'. And that's what it feels like, everyone is usuay really friendly and it's a great place to hang out with my crew at on weekend nights without burning a hole in my wallet!  It has a large back area with bbq's and an outdoor bar. The inside is a little crowded but the outside has large picnic tables you can smoke at.  Even 3 large outdoor tv's with sports on them.  I usually go in and out the back gate.  The prices here are amazing, $10-12 for pitchers of good beer and under $5 cocktails!  I highly recommend you and your friends check this place out as long as the term 'slightly divey' doesn't scare you, cause it's only deceptively so!

Stiff, cheap drinks?! Hell yeah, I'm there!

I would have never discovered Saddle Room if it wasn't for my friend who is a local Redwood City resident. $3 for a stiff Kettle Tonics? How can I turn that down. I just wish the bar accepted card.

My friends and I always end up coming here for a "couple" drinks (of course, a couple always turn into 5 or 6). At the end of the night you'll catch us singing and dancing to our favorite songs on the jukebox. Compared to most other divebars in the area, the crowd is a little younger.

    cash only!

    good scene.  good drinks.

usual neighborhood dive, but not gross.

i love the back. i can watch a game or kick it with my friends.

my friend did get cut off, she deserved it I think. but still be careful.

Its a good bar to go with a few friends if you want to keep it low-key, but actually do something.

I've been coming to the Saddle Room for probably 16 years.  It's your usual neighborhood dive but its more than that.  They have two electronic dart boards and an internet juke box.  The drinks are stiff and cheap, they have a great big patio in the back for smoking and hanging out.  I think some nights during the week they have $5 dinners and they're always doing dart tournaments or something else cool.  I love Sammy, even though he's always an ass to me (because he loves me), Bobby I've known for years and gives the greatest bear hugs ever, Chris the owner is awesome and we go way back.  I'll keep coming here as long as I can keep drinking LOL.  It's just a short walk from my house so its perfect.

The Saddle Room is the definition of a good dive bar - cheap, strong drinks, not too crowded, interesting  people.
I've only been here a couple times but the bartenders are friendly and other patrons don't really bother you (or maybe that's because I've always been here with guys) I can't think of any other bars where you can get a strong vodka cran for only $3. They are cash only but there's a Chase ATM next door.
It's a good bar to go to when you just want to chill and grab a strong drink

OK I'm bumping this review up to five stars. This has become a favorite spot for me and my hubby to go to, now that we've discovered they have dice cups and Liars Dice has officially replaced our obsession with UNO : D. We went in last night and bartender Bob wasn't working, but he was there and actually helped bring us an extra chair so me and my husband could sit together. That was so sweet of him. A few weeks ago when he was bartending, he gave us a bunch of tips on how to properly play the game (apparently we'd been doing it wrong!). We also really like Sam a lot. And I've become a fan of Ellie the barback, who was working last night and had to tell a bunch of chicks you can't hog the bathroom and lock other people out.  You go, girl.

One thing I love about this place is, I think they could probably give less of a shit if I'm writing this review or not. They LIKE being a dive bar, and the less people that come in and review 'em, the better. But I just had to put my two cents in. If you get Sam or Bob, please tip 'em well, they're hard working guys who deserve it.

Update: been back a few times with a friend of mine from work.  Went on a Saturday night, and it was crazy packed.  You could hardly navigate your way through the place.  I'm not a big fan of places that are so crowded, you have to fight your way from point A to point B, but it was a festive crowd, to be sure.

Hey, Big Mike R!  Let's get one thing straight...I'm not from RWC,  I'm an outsider, and I was welcome in this joint....  Let's talk specifics...
Stiff drinks at a good price
    Great jukebox
    Friendly cast of regulars
    No natural light leaking in

The Saddle Room is the perfect dive bar and my favorite.   Walking in, it's like a cheers, everyone knows your name.  I wish I still lived close to go :(

    Bottom line....

It's a local bar.....If you're not from RWC,  you won't get it and you probably won't  like it.  If you're an outsider and are looking for the neighborhood bar......Go to Applebee's.

    Oh yeah...PBR in bottles.

    Yes its a dive bar,
    Yes its 99% locals,
and Yes it's always fun to walk over and stumble home.
The Saddle Room is a local bar and in that - it's perfect just how it is.

It's like Denny's. No-one in their right mind ever says "Hey! Let's go to Denny's!" the conversation is usually, "It's 1 am, where should we - - -HEY! DENNY'S!"

Get some local beer on tap and we'll go up to 4 stars, otherwise I enjoy my Guinness and Jameson when I imbibe there.

Wow! Like another yelper on this place... I lived in RWC all my life and passed by this place a million and a half times but never got to go in. When I finally made plans to go to the "room" with some friends I was super stoked and for good reason!

So, I show up with a good good friend of mine that has been here plenty of times. She leans over and whispers "are you ready for this?" ... I reply "Hell yes, why!?".... "it's going to be a high school reunion" and sure as shit it was!!!  It was actually pretty hilarious because I hated everyone in high school... so people watching really took on a whole new meaning at this place.  I noticed a lot of girls who thought they were super hot yelling at the bartender for drinks at an overly crowded bar and... passed right on up on! I love that shit. Have some manners and respect for the alcohol distributor... it might get you drunk quicker.

The jukebox was BLARING!!!! which I adore. I am constantly telling my barkeeps to turn up the juke at other joints.. but not needed here. Good beer selection and friendly staff.

Will be back when I get back into town. Miss it already

whoever gives this place higher than 3 stars is on crack. i geuss if ur in your 40's or you are a truck driver this is a cool place. For regular people this place is not for us. This dingy place is very sketch and when i was there there were some kids there that were probably 15. The only reason I gave this place two stars is because pitchers of beer are fairly cheap and you can eat peanuts outside. Maybe when i am 40 and have no life ill be a regular here.

This place is a 3 minute drive from my house so I finally decided to check it out. The inside is really small : the bar with stools and a table in the back.  My friend and I were hesitant to go in, the place looked a bit shady from the outside and we heard country music blaring but we heard people chatting so decided to take a chance and walk in . As soon as we open the door everyone stopped talking ...Awkward... There was no where to sit along the bar so we sat at  the table at the back. The crowd is an interesting mix of old and young and gave off the odd feeling of being at a frat party =/. We each ordered a beer. The bartender was super nice and their beer selection was decent. The crowd and music was just not my scene but I guess I can't expect a whole lot from redwood city.

5 stars. No ifs, ands, or buts!!! If one live is RWC, this is where you go for a mellow, hang out with friends, and get wasted, kind of night. Well the night begins with, " Gary can I just get my madres (my drink of choice)?" I realize that Gary makes incredibly awesome drinks and by the end of that glass, I am red and don't recall how my glass so empty. By round 2, there's a line at the Jukebox, insulting of each others' tastes in music, chain smoking, dancing on the bar, and challenges thrown around for a game of darts. By round 3, there's still a line at the Jukebox, everyone and their mother is at the Room, start getting hit on by all the old guys, losing the dart games, and everyone there has become my new best friend. If you are a country fan, then you know Toby Keith's "I love this bar". That song is all about the Saddle Room!! Love you Saddle!! May you live forever!!!

5 stars all around for this bar.
The  bartenders Gary, Bobby and Sam
gary and bobby these guys in the mid 40's pour a stiff ass $5.00 grey goose screwdriver. They have typical beers like coors, bud, corona, gordon, hefenweizen etc...
They have an internet jukebox, men and womendrestrooms, a small kitchen where they serve dinner on monday night football. Free penuts where you just throw the waisted shells on the bar floor.
They have a big ass back patio with speakers/tv's tons of tables and benches.
The crowd differs like around 3pm-9pm its the neighborhood older working class. 25y old-60 y olds.
Thurs,Fri, Sat after say 10p a whole lotta young cats come in here. most are cool, some are pretentious, and all patrons are easy going.
some people mention that its a dive and it is, but it doesnt mean this place sucks because its a dive this bar is the best IMO in all of Redwood City.

this is a 3.5-4 star bar, but i can walk home....can't beat that!

this is a random place.  i love random.  it's not seedy like it looks like from the front.  it's a truly neighborhood bar.  there are as many people in the bar at 4pm as there are at 8 on a weeknight.  the scene is mostly older and a tad bit macho.  The jukebox has been recently upgraded and it pretty darn good.

i'm not sure when the saddle room became a wanna be it place, but on thursday and friday nights, the place can fill up with 20 somethings.  maybe it's the big jagermiester machine (i swear it's a machine) behind the bar and the addition of red bull to the bar's menu....is it the chicken or the egg?  so if you don't want a crowd, go another night.

the patio out back is the best part of the bar.  it's a great place to hang out with a group of friends.  CHEAP drinks (when is the last time you had a $3.50 mixed drink?) and a place you can hear your friends?  can't beat that.

my biggest gripe with the place?  no diet coke.  you can carry red bull, but not diet coke?  it's just another button on the little soda shooter thing!  come on!

Good if you live around there and want to hang out for a bit. Not worth going to if you live farther than a few blocks away. Very divey, interesting bartenders, odd crowd with wide age range.

So, it's Friday night...my friend calls me up and we are trying to figure out where to have drinks at. He suggests the Saddle Room Bar. So, I'm like sure..because it's a bar literally 5 min from where I grew up from and somewhere I have never ventured in. It was just weird because I've passed by this place half a million times and I FINALLY go in for drinks. A real dive-y place. The drinks are cheap, but cash only.
It was a rather bizarre experience. I just wouldn't have expected this type of place in the 'hood. First there was a older guy hitting on my friend and saying he looked like the dude from Prison Break. Then the older guy proceeded to hit on some younger lady. We later met a guy who met his Japanese gf walking to the train because he had gotten a DUI. Anyways..a really interesting experience.

As one of the only (the only!) bars open on a Saturday night down Woodside, it's a gem.  Has quite the 'locals' feeling and cheap beer to boot.  Be careful what you pickup there, whether that be peanuts off the floor or the clientele.

You don't have much to choose from around here but this bar isn't bad. You can converse without having to shout and some of the beer is cheap. I'll be back.

This hidden Woodside dive bar has it ALL...darts, dice, STIFF drinks, a honky tonk juke box, outdoor patio and great bartenders. Always a good time here.
