My driver recommended the breaded pork tenderloin. I was told nothing green from sahm's will please me. I think they might be right when I read these reviews. It's definitely a bar, because it was full of middle aged smokers drinking beers and commiserating about life. The sandwich was good. When in Indiana, eat like the locals.
Review Source:definitely different than the other sahms locations....fits the bar more than the grill. Â you walk into the center of the symmetrical bar. Â lower eating tables to the left and right around a sunken square bar. Â the bar area is separated by the eating area by a solid wooden divider. Â a few steps down into the bar, there is a large square bar with seating on three sides and high tables around the perimeter. Â
beer selection is good and the food is above average. Â i'd suggest to stick with the pizza with standard toppings. Â crowd is your normal middle-aged neighborhood drinkers. Â will have musicians from time-to-time. Â they also have a shuffle board table...very nice.
friendly, capable staff, fun crowd, & good beer/food. Â good to stop by anytime
I'm giving Sahms 5 stars for a few reasons. The first being convenience. I live about 5 minutes away. That being said, my fiance and I go here often. Yeah, ok maybe too often. The servers remember us and our drink order, and are genuinely just awesome people. Very friendly, and efficient. Yeah, they get busy, and yeah your refill or ranch dressing that they forgot might take a few extra minutes to get to you, but when I go there I'm usually not in a rush so it doesn't bother me. They have specials every day, food and beverage, which are nice. And the food is good. I have yet to try anything that I haven't liked. Good pizza, LOVE the tenderloin (breaded of course), their buffalo chicken is amazing (sandwich or buffalo bites as an app), breaded mushrooms are a must, nachos are delicious, BLT has crispy bacon and with fresh tomatoes - and the list goes on.
Yes, you can still smoke in Sahms. And yes, they have a slight gnat problem - but it's all around a great place to hang out, get dinner and have a few beers.
Sahm's Bar & Grill gets the dreaded one star award because they allow smoking here. Â Their main web site is mostly about the original (?) location on Allisonville Road and it mentions that it is 100% SMOKE-FREE.
Not this location. Â There was at least one person at the bar who was smoking today, possibly more than that. Â You could smell it in the dining area. Â No real separation between the bar and the dining area. Â Disgusting.
Food -
Dining companions had:
Chili - it got rave reviews, meaty, thick, really good.
Turkey Cuban - rave reviews, one of the best Cubans ever tasted.
Burger - great, well-cooked, bun was really good.
Salads - fresh, great dressing. Â The homemade coffee cake you get with the salads is incredibly good.
So.....the food is good. Really good. Â Prices are reasonable. Â But it's all for naught since you have to deal with the nasty smell of cigarette smoke.
Service today was not good. Â We waited too long for drink refills. Â We waited too long to get our check after we were finished. Â Just very.....slow. Â I think the server had too many tables, but the service was slow.
I won't be back unless they ban smoking. Â See ya, Sahm's!
Do not let appearances deceive you! Â To be honest, I was one step out the door when I entered in; but reading the reviews and reading the menu my family and went ahead and tried it. Â What a great place to eat! Â My 5 year old really loved his grilled cheese, the pork tenderloin was wonderful, and my hubby's Turkey Cuban was fantastic. Â Superb place to eat.
Review Source:Only thing that prevents it from 5 stars is the fact that you can smoke inside. While some might adore that fact, I prefer no smoke with my food.
That being said - this is one of the best restaurants in Indy. Food is always delicious, I have yet to have a bad meal here.
Be sure to try the pork tenderloin (breaded of course, you are in Indiana). Also great are their fresh mozzarella sticks and fried pickles. Portions are always generous and the specials are a great way to try new things.
Went here with the parents the other day and was intrigued by the menu... especially (As other reviews have stated) the plethora of sides! Â Of course you can go with the seasoned fries (delish) but I opted for the breaded mushrooms that came with a spicy ranch type sauce... amazing! Â They overcooked my burger, but I was too hungry to say anything. Â They were extremely attentive and nice - and my mom raves about their coffee cake. Â Definitely a place I would go back to.
Review Source:Been going to Sahms for quite a while and although my food was ready when I got there...quality not the best. Chili was good as usual but I got the side mixed green salad that had 1 slice of tomato, 1 cucumber slice, a couple crouton and lettuce. More toppings and maybe cheese would have been nice and I got more of the watery ranch on myself than the salad. When my boyfriend ordered the food we found out they were no longer serving the steak sandwich or the pasta salad! No pasta salad?! That was what I was introduced to when I first started going. Very disappointed to see that gone...may be a while before I got back, especially for food. Sahms, you made some bad choices even if it was to better the restaurant. Sad customer :(
Review Source:With my terrible indecisiveness, perhaps the menu with TWENTY sides (I think it was 20) is not the best option for me. We settled on Sahm's after practice the other night, which was pretty awesome. Sometimes I think I'm a little ADHD, and the teammates that I hung out with after practice that night didn't help this process. It took me a minute to settle on a beer. Luckily, I just ordered last and didn't require our server, Tony (who we later gave the name- Tony by the way), to have to come back to take my drink order.
He did have to come back like three times to ask me if I was ready to order. They had a Wednesday night (I'm sure they have this every night) specials order, and everything on it looked good, as well as a menu full of food. I tried to look at the menu- No wait. I tried to READ the menu, but I think I mostly looked at it. Then what I did read, I tried to actually decide what I wanted, but a few things sounded good. Then nothing sounded great enough in particular. Then another teammate showed up, then we had to move tables, then I finally decided on the (I think) Pepperjack steak- or philly- it was something like this with my side being chili. I decided not to look at all the twenty sides because I'd never make up my mind. A couple others at my table had gotten the chili, and it looked and smelled deeeeeelicious. I had to get it, too.
The chili came right out, and boy. YUM. It was nice and thick.
The sandwich was delicious. They actually cooked my steak medium, and it was juicy and COVERED in sauteed mushrooms. I had a couple pilsners of Fat Tire. There were a couple good beers on draft-Upland, Fat Tire. Eh.
Our dear server was VERY patient with our group of 6 or 7 rambunctuous rollergirls. I thought the people at the table that we moved next to were going to get angry, but they were troopers, too.
Good food. Godo beer. Good company.
So, whilst visiting this town and staying at a nearby hotel I felt that I had to get into some of the local scene.. whatever that may be. Â
-whatever- it's near a hotel. Â It's the only place open till 2.. I'm going to check it out.
It was my birthday- the bartender said "no flaming shots" Â But he made us one that about killed us..
It Sahm's what more do you need to know! It's Sahm's bar and so it is a bar 1st and a grill somewhere after that! Good food as at all Sahm's and less children then some of their other, that works for me big time!
But the bottom line is IT IS A SAHM'S!
Remember to eat well and live well! And Please no chain's!
My experience here is based solely on ordering take out. Â
Based on a friend's recommendation, and me not wanting to drive very far, my wife and I tried Sahm's up on 96th. Â Sahm's Bar and Grill has most of the same menu items as the restaurant on Allisonville, minus some entrees (and some price for that matter).
AMBIENCE- before I even walked in, I noticed this place was busy. Â How, you ask? Â I had to park about 4 stores down from this place. Â That's gotta be a pretty good sign on a weekday (Thursday) right? Â I walk in and it looks to be just as it says- a bar and grill. Â There's a bar in the middle of the restaurant, and booths and tables making up the outer part of the restaurant. Â
It was interesting, I asked the hostess if the place was smoke free. Â She said there was only smoking in the bar area. Â I found this odd, in that the bar area had glass surrounding it, but it didn't reach the ceiling. Â Essentially, if enough people were smoking in the bar, it would reach the other parts of the restaurant. Â At that particular time, it didn't seem that smokey.
SERVICE- the only service I encountered was on the phone, and when I came to pick up the phone. Â Both times they were slow, though judging by the high number of people that were there, it seemed to be pretty understandable. Â
MENU- as I said, the menu is pretty similar to the restaurant they have on Allisonville. Â They have appetizers, salads, sandwiches and burgers, and entrees ranging from fried shrimp to pasta. Â It's pretty much what you would expect to find in a "bar and grill." Â They do boast that they have 23 side dishes to choose from.
FOOD- the wife decided to go with a fried chicken salad (almost defeats the purpose of a salad, doesn't it?) and I opted for the club sandwich with potato pancakes on the side. Â My wife's salad was pretty huge. Â It came with a nice honey dijon. Â She ended up eating just the chicken as she got towards the end. Â As for me, my sandwich was pretty good. Â The sandwich was stacked pretty high, and they grilled the bread, which was nice, though a bit buttery (and messy). Â The potato pancakes were not that great. Â They basically were mashed potatoes on the inside, and lightly fried on the outside. Â Should've gone with fries.
OVERALL- the portions were pretty generous, and prices weren't that bad. Â If I didn't live so close to this place, I dont' know if I'd go out of my way to come out here, but it seems alright. Â They also have a bunch of tvs in here, so this wouldn't be a bad place to grab appetizers and watch a game. Â Perhaps a dine in exp. will change my opinion of this place.
Celebrity Rating- any of the Indiana Pacers
We went to Sahm's Bar and Grill for dinner. Â The atmosphere of the place wasn't too bad for it being in a strip mall. Â Their menu boasts quite an eclectic selection. Â The only thing I didn't like about their menu is that all the pasta dishes had mushrooms.
I decided to go with the New York Strip. Â It was pan seared and came out sizzling. Â I requested medium but it resulted in medium well, my wife's steak was also slightly overcooked. Â Other than that everything was decent. Â I'd go back to try another dish in the future.
