Sooo... I'm not going to lie, I looked up a couple of different places on Yelp in Breck to have breakfast and they all had too long of a wait. We got fed up walking all over the place and stumbled upon this place which looks more like a Irish pub (which it is) than a good breakfast place, but they were actively marketing their breakfast so we gave it a shot.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I will preface by saying I set my expectations before I dine at a place, I'm not going in to a Denny's expecting a gourmet spread and then giving them a one star review. This place, at first, my expectations weren't real high and luckily they were surpassed.

I got the Trout and Eggs Breakfast. I know what most people who read this are going to be thinking, my girlfriend thought the same thing, but hey I'm being reunited with the mountains for the first time in 6 months, give me a break. The trout was great for a $10 breakfast. It came with 2 scrambled eggs, hash browns and an english muffin. I was out camping the night before, it had rained all morning, I was a bit hung over and this hit the spot. I'm not saying skip the some of the very high rated restaurants for this one, I'm just saying it can get the job done. The waitress was very pleasant as well.

My boyfriend and I received recommendations from our broker to try this restaurant out for dinner. We were there the other night on a Saturday, and had made reservations via OpenTable (very easy to use!).

The place has dim lighting and some very Colorado-esque decor (you know, like deer heads), but it's not in any way tacky. It's a very casual, cool kinda place you can go to for dinner and still feel like it's a nice dinner without being too fancy.

We were politely greeted by the hostess and sat in a booth. Our waitress was also friendly and provided her recommendations and her favorites.

I ordered the beef medallions, and my boyfriend ordered the Salt Creek platter/plate with 3 meats. He chose ribs, chicken, and brisket. Both were absolutely delicious, but I do think my boyfriend got the better value meal...all that meat for $19! My dish had maybe half the meat for $31! But it was still a good value, so no regrets there.

We had a Breck Brew, which is great if you like porters/stouts/dark beers. And for dessert we had the sundae brownie, which wasn't anything special, to be honest, but it was good after all that salty meat.

I would definitely come back again. I noticed there were a lot of larger groups, and I could see how this place would be great for that. Definitely one of my go-to places in Breck!

This was easily the worst group dining experience I've ever had.

We were in Breck with a large group, and our hotel concierge suggested that Salt Creek would be the ideal place to accommodate us for dinner.  We spoke with the manager, arranged a set menu, and paid in advance in full for the food (with the drink tab to be paid after dinner).  Of course, I understand that accommodating  a large group (of 35, in our case) is a huge undertaking, so our expectations were low.  But the restaurant should never have agreed to take us (AND accept our payment in advance).

When we arrived, we were sent to the bar upstairs for 90 minutes.  Finally, at 9:30, the host told us that he would begin seating us in small groups as tables became available.  Over the next 90 minutes the restaurant used us to squeeze one last turn out of their tables.  Rather than the group dinner for 35 we'd paid for, we had 9 individual dinners of 3 to 5 people.  And because we'd paid in advance, there was little incentive for the staff to treat us well.  (Although, I will concede that our waitress was pleasant and funny.  Unfortunately the rest of our group did not get the same waitress).

I get that accommodating a group of 35 is difficult, but Salt Creek should never have accepted our reservation.

The dinner is good but ate breakfast and the food was terrible for one and the service was terrible. It took 2 hours to receive our food and it was all wrong. The manager did not even come by to apologize. Two other tables came in and after an hour of waiting without even a order yet they left.

I can't speak upon the second floor, but i can speak upon my absolutely horrible meal I had on Christmas! Christmas, so you'd think they would pull out all the stops for a great meal, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

I got the Texas BBQ plate of beef. I had to ask what type of beef it was and my waitress didn't know and had to ask the chef. lol. When it came it was dry and cold. It was so overcooked that I could not use my fork with it, because the meat would just cube and break apart like a cracker. Others at my table got the thanksgiving turkey, which was discribed as 'salty' and 'disgusting' and my cousin who said his ribs were 'bad'.

Our waitress was nice, but sucked as a waitress. She did not bother to clear any of the food scraps on the table for the desert meaning that we were eating our cobbler in between pieces of rubber like meat.

I know there are some good reviews, but please, PLEASE, do not go here. This place is also extremely overpriced!! There are too many other restaurants in Breck.

Breakfast is consistently good. 2nd time here. Service is a little slow but very friendly. Loved the Irish Benedict. Gotta love the bacon.

Salt Creek always offers a very nice meal at a reasonable price.  On our recent visit, my wife had the filet, and it was just perfect.  I had the duck breast and it was excellent.  We shared a nice bottle of Australian red wine and  left quite satisfied.

I come here for breakfast on Saturdays before heading up the slopes.  Really good breakfast food and you're never rushed.

    Headliner: Skip the BBQ

We headed to the Salt Creek on our last night in Breck.  Since we had been there before, we had high hopes of a good meal.  Sorry - failure all over the place here.

There was not much of a wait, even without a reservation - about 10 minutes.  The place was noisy, partially because it is echoey, but mostly from the DJ pointing the bass at the floor in the upstairs Irish pub.  The decor of the place is very woodsy - natural walls and animal heads on the walls.  There is an impressive wine cellar that occupies the far wall.  (One note - this place shared bathrooms with the club upstairs - my wife described them as "scary").

Service was overall good, with the attentive owners / managers picking up the slack from our overworked waitress.  We started with our usual assortment of drinks - the coffee was your standard drip coffee, and the filters were obviously weak as my coffee had grounds in it.

Bread course was a selection of rolls, including while wheat, ciabatta , and corn bread.  I tried the corn bread, which was good.

I got the ceasar salad and my wife got the mixed green salad with goat cheese.   The ceasar salad had thick shaved slices of parmesan cheese - not really a good thing, but was otherwise ordinary.  The mixed green salad had a weak dressing considering everything on the salad.  Also, the salad was not put together well.  Clumps of ingredients stuck together (such as the cherries) and it looked like some things had "fallen in" the mix (some sort of chip - but only one).  Both salads were huge portions.

We also ordered the rib plate between us.  The restaurant has a good split policy - for $6 extra, each person gets a half-portion of the protein with their own sides.  Considering this place has a "custom pit" (as advertised on the menu), we were expecting good to excellent bbq.  Unfortunately, this is some of the worst bbq we've ever had.  The ribs were overcooked, with parts looking and tasting like beef jerky.   Unfortunately, even though the outside was overdone, the inside was under-done.  The flavor of the "just right" bits (generally about a fingers width in the middle of the rib) had good flavor.  The ribs arrived with sauce on the side.

For sides, I got the baked beans (highlight of the meal, in my opinion), which my wife thought  were too sweet, and the french fries, which were crispy, but under seasoned.  My wife got the potato salad (over dressed and the dressing is on the vinegar side) and the cole slaw (in need of seasoning).  The house bbq sauce (mentioned above) was tasty, but nothing special.

I had a toffee bread pudding for dessert.  All the desserts were a reasonable size, which - given the size of the other courses - is a good thing.  The bread pudding had a good flavor, but was more like french toast than bread pudding.

Overall, a very disappointing meal.  It was better last year, and I hope it improves again.

Very popular with a possible wait even with a reservation on a weekend night.  Steaks were good and service was friendly and attentive.  Reasonably priced for the quality of the steak IMHO.

Very solid dinner at the Salt Creek the other night. The atmosphere is great - warm, rustic, cozy. The salad w/ goat cheese, almonds, cherries is really good. The ravioli appetizer w/ cream sauce is nice. The bone-in ribeye is extremely juicy and flavorful. The beef medallions were also a big hit. For dessert, the brownie/ice cream is spot-on. If you are visiting Breck, this place has got to be on your go-to list.

Amazing how self-righteous the Hippie can get. Playing pool on a crowded Saturday night w/ a hammered friend from San Diego (his cousin/uncle/something owned the bar, which equals free shots) who decided to throw some obnoxious, drunken game at our fully organic competition. In any other town in the world, he would have been laughed at...not in Breckenridge. Hippie #1 got in my ear: "Hey, man. I'm a peaceful man, man. But I'm going to rip your friend's head off, man, if he doesn't stop talking shit, man. I mean, I'm a peaceful man, man. But this is Breck, man, and you don't act like that, man." I immediately went on a 5 ball run to finish the game and informed the Hippies that their cues were actually made of wood from the endangered Sandlewood Tree of Yucca Valley and their complicity in the rape of Mother Nature was tantamount to driving a Hummer limo towing a yacht on the way to Wal Mart. Hippies...

    Fun night. Good place.

Stopped by for lunch today after looking at the snow sculptures in Breckinridge.  As we were walking back to the car, we were pulled in by the savory BBQ smoke.

The dining room was half full, but filled up pretty soon.  We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the reuben.  I upgraded to the creamy potato bacon cheese soup, and was glad I did.  It was definitely the best part of the meal.

The pulled pork sandwich came out so soggy that there was no way to eat except with a fork.  What does it take to drain the meat for a minute?  The reuben was good, but the fries were awful - crispy yet tasteless.

This is a Breckinridge standby, but I don't think we'll be back.

I feel like Breck is my 2nd home and after years of spending so much time in Breck I finally gave this place a try last night. We got there a bit after 7 and it was dead. I get that it's summer time and I like that it's quite in town, but I was surprised to only see about 4 other tables with diners.
What was nice was the staff. Our waitress helped my friends with their wine selection and brought several glasses for them to try.
We ordered apps and entrees. I enjoyed the chicken plate with fries and beans. The chicken was very nice and I liked the BBQ sauce on the side so I could put on as much as I wanted.
We were to full for desserts after our meal. Maybe on the next trip.

This review is for the bar/club upstairs only...

Hilarious place, but it all depends on your mood and what kind of night you are looking for.  We were fairly intoxicated when we showed up, which is typically the case when we stumble to this place.

Sometimes they have a band playing and they are annoying, but this past weekend the band was good.  They also mixed in some good dancing music with a dj which kept things entertaining.

I should say first of all that the food we actually received was overpriced but tasted good.  We had a party of four, and one member of our party received a steak that was cooked medium-well and she had ordered medium-rare.  She politely asked the waitress if they could make a new steak medium-rare.  The waitress took the whole plate back, and we figured the food was on its way.  We waited patiently for about 30 minutes, during which time the waitress came to our table once to tell us she was going to check on the steak.  Finally, after the three of us had finished our meals and our friend still had nothing to eat, our friend told the waitress to cancel the order and bring just a baked potato.  The waitress brought the baked potato about 10 minutes later, and said that someone had brought out the steak to the wrong table and that's why we never got it.  The waitress acted like she was doing us a big favor by not charging us for that meal- but we never got the meal, of course we shouldn't be charged!  So the service was terrible, and I think we should have been compensated more for our trouble.  None of us will ever go back.

I've only been here for brunch but it was over priced for what came out of the kitchen. They are the kind of place that folds a sheet of cooked eggs over some vegetables to make a veggie omelete. The hash browns really sucked. They also didnt charge us the brunch price for bloody marys and we had to complain. 94 dollars for breakfast for 5- way over priced. That was including gratuity though- since they added it on for us, like they didn't trust us. Usually you can only do that to 6 or more people. Assholes

This place deserves two separate reviews, but Ill cram them into one space.  First, the steakhouse downstairs.  Very good, 4 stars. The ukranian waiter was a bit pushy in trying to upsell everything. NO, we don't want to start with maybe a soup or salad. NO, we don't want to add another side to the steak for $5 more. NO, we don't want a third round of drinks. NO, we didn't save room for dessert.  NO, we don't want to upgrade our steak with the special mystery sauce brought by donkey from the Tibet.  GO AWAY AND LET ME EAT.  When he finally did this, I was very pleased. The steaks were all enormous, and everyone was happy with their choices (tenderloin tips, ribeyes mainly).  The dishes are huge and for $6 you can have them split as an entree, which entitles you to double the sides and separate plates.  If you're not too hungry, that's the way to go.

Now, the club upstairs is a whole different donkey. Three stars. First, it smells a little like both POO and PUKE. Thankfully, your nostrils ought to become numb to the smell within a few minutes.  For my pregnant sister, the smell never abated, and she left both teary eyed and nauseous within minutes. The rest of us, however, rallied since it was New Years, and odors of puke, piss, poop, whatever, will NOT RUIN MY NEW YEARS PARTY.  The place was pretty full, though the dude quotient was massive. The young, college-age tourist guys were increasingly desperate, and we watched them get picked off one by one by a pack of hungry, wild eyed cougars on the prowl.  It was amusing to see these otherwise frat-stud types dancing with these old women of huge saggy boobs and low cut shirts, all the while bopping their heads and shifting their eyes to and fro looking for a younger meal.  Yet they feared giving up the sure thing when a mate was so close at hand, so they dared not stray as the cougar could easily attack another slab of meat.  Ah, the hormone-riddled boy, so helpless in the jaws of wiser, older women.  Having brought my own date, I was thankfully able to kiss someone near my own age as the clock struck twelve.  The music was all pop, some top 40, and a good mix of hip hop.  The club offers nothing wild or inventive or original, and last call is 1.30. But it's the mountains we're talking about and makes do for an area without a bunch of dance options.

I'll review Salt Creek based on the bar/club upstairs.   On a Tuesday night in Breck, it was basically the only place with people, and it was packed.  The $5 cover seem out of place for a college meat market kind of bar with no apparent professional entertainment, but I suppose thats what you get for going out in a ski town.  They were kind enough to waive my cover since I was a designated driver.

As an aside, you should always have a designated driver, not just pick the least drunk person.  This is ESPECIALLY true of tourist towns in general, and Breckenridge in particular.  There is only one road going in and out of town.  Check point occur frequently according to locals.  You will be caught.

Anyway, I can't comment too much on the taste of their drinks, I can say that you'll get pretty much your standard college bar fair.  Beer, jack and coke.  The music was a mix of hiphop and pop stuff, again typical college bar stuff.

Now, so far, the review has earned the place three stars, let me tell you why it got two.  The ratio.  There was an overwhelming male to female ratio.  Probably between 5 or 10 to one.  This is fun for no one.  I had no eye candy, or girls to hook up with my buddies, and my girlfriend was harassed repeatedly through the night.  There were a lot of grabby European guys who would sneak up the moment you turned your head.

Now, for the most part, if a guy is courteous and treats my girlfriend with respect, I'll relax and trust in my girlfriend, happy knowing I have one less drink to buy her.  Sadly, this was not the case, and I had to step in several times with guys who liked to talk with their hands.    Thankfully, I'm a big guy and a firm hand and a mean look was all it took to emasculate the suitors and have them running scared for the rest of the night.

I imagine ratios will be a probably wherever you go in breck, but try a more adult place and you'll probably have better luck.

Yummy BBQ and good atmosphere. Yummy beers. There's western style on the main floor, a night club upstairs and decks with views of the city and ski hill. Salt Creek is just up from main street. If you're skiing, you can take the new Disneyesque gondola into town and walk over for lunch.
