Sam's is a great place to grab lighter Mexican fare in Waco. Their tacos are great, with interesting ingredients such as Korean Beef and Kimchi and Mahi Mahi. The two tacos with two sides meal is a great deal and much more varied and light than the typical Tex-Mex food prevalent in Waco. The drinks are great--long tap list, flavored margaritas, and interesting cocktails.
Sam's is a great spot for lunch or dinner in downtown Waco.
Having recently moved to Waco from Austin, I was looking for a place to scratch my street taco itch. Â This place did not do the trick. Â I ordered a Mexican Martini, which was decent for the happy hour price. Â However, I've definitely had way better and would not be willing to pay the full price for one. Â My date and I also ordered a trio appetizer sampler which came with queso, guacamole, and a bean dip. Â Although the portions for the queso and bean dip were substantial, the guacamole was served in a small cup similar to those diners give you for salad dressing. Additionally, it did not taste as if it was made in house, but rather spooned out of a H-E-B pre-made container. Â The "bean dip" was hardly a dip at all, but just a side of black beans. Â The queso was sub-par as well. Â I also ordered the portabella taco, which was okay but not incredibly impressive. Â This establishment is definitely overpriced based on the quality of food they are selling. Almost any of the Taquerias in town will serve you a better authentic taco. Â
However, I do have to say the service was wonderful. Our waiter answered several questions about the menu for me and my dinner guest. He was extremely attentive and kind.
