I was on my way from Fairview Heights to Edwardsville, and hungry for lunch. A bookmark on my iPhone yelp app placed "The Sandwich Shop" just off my path. I found Main Street Collinsville not too busy on a Saturday at noon, with plenty of parking along the street and in a public lot across the street just west of said shop. Â Inside, I found a cozy diner, and a waitress at the register who told me a takeout sandwich was no problem. I took a stool at the counter and read the BND newspaper while I waited about 20 minutes (there were a few orders in front of mine). When received, my Turkey Reuben was warm and tasty (see my photos). I don't often travel through Collinsville, but if I'm ever there at lunchtime again, I'll keep The Sandwich Shop in mind.
Review Source:Small diner type / family restaurant that my hair stylist recommended. Â I trust her she recommended Fazzis to me. Â So she has good taste. Â It looks kinda small but their could be a backroom? Â Another thing I have seen taller stools at my child's 3rd grade classroom. Â I am 6'4". Â Me sitting there waiting for my food was probably a Kodak Moment. Â
I came in for breakfast, on a kind of a screwed up day. Â The wonderfully nice lady who I forgot her name informed me that Lunch just started it was 11:00am. Â Like I said day was going bad, maybe worse than expected?
So I looked at the lunch menu. Â Then it hit me the smell. Â The food here smelled simply amazing. Â I ended up ordering my favorite snadwich the Rueben. Â But I wanted the turkey with all the traditional fixings. Â The menu clearly reads in BOLD letters "no substitution." Â I asked anyway fully expecting the answer, perrhaps even cackling, or may be even a chortle. Â She checked. Â The cook said no problem. Â The day was loking up. Â
This sandwich was INCREDIBLE. Â My day was so bad that my iPhone was even on the blink. Â I waited until I got home to write the review because it was so good. Â Perfectly toasted, sauced, krauted and served piping hot! Â I do not know if there is a golden proportion for Reuben manufacturing? Â But these folks have got it down. Â If you are ever over in Collinsville, this is the place to go! Â
They have a bunch of other sandwiches that look appealing. Â My friend also recommended the chicken strips, well seasoned and breaded. Â I ALWAYs listen to skinny ladies offering food advice.
I did take a star off because the counter was sooooo short. Â When I go back it is a table for me.
