A friend and I came here hoping to have a drink and a place to chill and talk on a Wednesday night. Â I was super surprised how busy (in a good way) the place was! Â A little lower key earlier in the night (9:30) but a lot of people trickled in over the next few hours. Â There was a live band playing in the back, and then beat blasting on the dance floor next to the bar. Â We spent time on the front patio, chilling with a view of the street. Â So a fun place if you want to hang with friends and maybe do a little bit of dancing.
The only complaint is that the patio wasn't a bit quieter, I ended up having to yell towards the end of the night, so not the best if you're looking for a place to talk easily.
Scarlet's is incredible. I shot one of my first special events for my photography business there and the bartender was so sweet. Let us do anything we wanted. LOL I've been back several times. The shoot turned out fantastic, and the girls got awesome service. Thank you to all your employees for a great afternoon.
I loved my chocolate raspberry martini!
Scarlet's used to be my favorite spot on the weekend. I was standing at the bar waiting to order a drink when the bartenders performed a drink on fire trick. I got hit in the face with the hot alcohol and got a pretty bad burn on my cheek. I met with the manager the next day before seeing a Doctor. Needless to say, my phone calls and emails were never returned. All I wanted was the $160 I had to pay to go to the Urgent Care, I don't have medical insurance....Obviously Scarlet's Saloon isn't concerned with treating their regular customers with kindness
Review Source:Okay, update time.
I went for a quietish drink in the hopes of sitting outside on the cool patio.
The bartenders inside Scarlet's were very nice. Murray, the owner, also very nice.
Hanging out, outside, was great!
Good bartenders are intuitive. They read you, match your vibes, validate the lonely, party hard with the wild ones & therefore rake in tips, right? One bartender at the Powerhouse was clearly intuitive & was broadcasting his thoughts like a drive in movie. Unless he found you attractive, he was kind of a dick. Survey says he was tired of his job. eesh.
Patrons started spilling out onto the patio and the people were ready to party.
Cocktail servers, the other bartender and security for both Powerhouse & Scarlet's are friendly, welcoming and sociable. Â Drinks are priced well & there's no cover before 9.
I'm new to the nightlife in Folsom, so when some friends suggested this place, I wasn't expecting too much.
Crowd is on the older side. We went after 11PM so cover to get into this place as well as The Powerhouse was $15. They accept cash only so make sure you come prepared. If not, they have an ATM on site a little in the back of the building. Just ask. If you just want to stay at Scarlet's, it's only $10 to get in. FYI, Powerhouse and Scarlet's share the same building just separated by a hallway with guys guarding the entrances.
Went on a Saturday night. It was crowded but not packed to the point of not being able to move. Music selection at Scarlet's was awesome. They had hip hop, Top 40s, and a touch of old school. Really great if you want to dance. There is no "dancefloor," but people were anyway. I couldn't help NOT dancing.
Down the hall, Powerhouse had a live band playing.
Staff and bartenders were friendly and quick with drinks. Just an overall good time here.
Word on the street (that is, Sutter Street), is that this is the place for the "older crowd"... This apparently means anybody over 25. Still, once the DJ started playing "Whoop, there it is!" and literally EVERYBODY on the dancefloor started singing along? Yeah, love ya '90's kids, but I... gotta go...
Met a couple of nice chicks here, smoking waaaaay too many cigarettes (I fully blame you, Chester), but the patio out there is very nice with an excellent view of that big intersection of Riley and Sutter; pretty small dancefloor, but a lot of older folks who don't give a fuh, and are probably worse than you, so away self-conscious demons!
I'm not sure a handstamp from here will always get you in Powerhouse nextdoor necessarily... but it's pretty easy to sneak in via the bathroom hallway. Just keep an eye out for security guards and don't act stupid. :P
If you're in Folsom and barhopping, this isn't a half-bad stop to hit, all those straight working-class singles just wear thing on me after a bit... no offense.
I really like Scarlets. They always play great music, the room is a cool space with a very generous outdoor deck area. I also like that you can walk through the front hall and go to The Powerhouse to check out whatever band they have playing. It's like getting two clubs for one cover! Two complaints: way too many people smoke out on the big ol' deck and therefore, smoke finds its way inside... and the DJ has been known to talk too much. Unfortunately, that is kind of typical with DJs - they forget that we are not there to see / hear them, but rather to dance and hear the music. I also like the fact that the crowd is really mixed - it's not all 20-somethings. This is my go-to place when I want to dance!
Review Source:Scarlets is another one of our favorite haunting grounds..we always end up on the patio people watching..we usually spend a bit on the inside and 90% of the time order a Pizza from Chicao Fire and have never been disapointed. Â We have never paid a cover, the service has always been adequate, and we have enjoyed dancing inside and out...we are always smashed by the time we arrive anyway, so waiting for a drink here and there gives us an oppourtunity to sober up anyway.
Review Source:Did you know you can order pizza to be delivered from Chicago Fire to Scarlet's?
Yes, it's true and fantastic if you arrive craving pizza and the place is packed or if you want to sit outside and the area is fulll. Â Scarlet's has a phone to call in and place your order and a menu for Chicago Fire too. Â It's actually quicker to do this than go to the restaurant. Â It's a much more chill date spot, where you can sip on beer along the long bar inside or on one of the smaller tables on the patio. Â Their view is also better than Chicago Fire!
Our bartender was incredibly nice and served us up some cold brews. Â He also was the one who informed us of the whole pizza ordering thing. Â Thank you sir!
And now you know!
They had a large sign in lights that said no cover charge. when we went in they stopped us and said $5 cover. I argued their sign is what drew us in. They said oh well we forgot to change the sign. I'm sorry but it is a principle thing with me. So we left. Not a good way to run a business. We usually drop a hundred bucks at a bar. Their loss!
Review Source:On a Tuesday night it's so slammed that there's no standing room. Â One perk is that there are heat lamps outside for those blustery winter evenings. Â The one thing that really turned me off, though, are the go-go dancers. Â They have them "working" in front of the huge window and to be completely honest it was a disgusting sight. Â I could understand having go-go dancers at Powerhouse which is more of a "clubby" atmosphere, but why inside of Scarlets? It's just awkward. Â I'm no prude, but I was pretty disgusted and actually shocked that they didn't start taking off their clothes. BLECH.
Review Source:Somehow I managed to get through 4 years of college right down the freeway without checking out the Folsom bars. I'm slightly ashamed of that!
I was introduced to Scarlet's last week on a random Wednesday night. My friends were regulars and the bartender was super nice and friendly to us. I'm usually a pint of beer kinda girl, but they didn't have a big tap selection, so my friends suggested I let the bartender concoct something for me. Sure, why not?
He asked me if I liked Mt. Dew, and after replying yes, he grabbed a bottle of gin and went to work. I was presented with a shooter that truly tasted like Mt. Dew...out of gin...who knew?! Throughout the night we had drinks that tasted like Tang, Grape Big Chew, and some awesome pink/pineapple-y/fantasticness.
While the inside of this place is not huge or impressive, the outside seating in front is cute, complete with space heaters when needed, and a decent view of Lake Natoma Inn down the hill, and quaint downtown Folsom around you.
I'll definitely be back!!
The bartenders are rude!!! We went in with a party of over 25 people and 4 of us were designated drivers. Not only did they give us attitude for ordering water but they tried to charge us $5 each for tap water!!! Then at last call my girlfriend was in the bathroom drunk and I wanted to go check on her but the bouncer wouldn't let anyone back in that area. I tried to explain to him that she was wasted and might not be ok. I guess he thought I was scamming him because he wouldn't listen to me and he wouldn't go check. We made the best of it and had a good time anyways but we will never go here again!
Review Source:I would have given 5 stars a year or so ago...but they are no longer the great place I once knew. And there is a cover most nights now?! I remember a time when there was very seldom a cover (special events/djs only) and always a cozy place to sit and enjoy some drinks without stupid people being obnoxiously loud and overly drunk. This used to be my favorite casual stop on the weekends.....now only once in a while.
Review Source:It was free so it started off better than powerhouse, then we walked in and saw the crowd of people trying to make it look like they were havin a great time. Â Maybe they were trying too hard. Â Friday night they had a DJ playing decent music but barely anyone was dancing, and the few that were looked like they were listening to their own ipod cuz it didn't look like they were dancing to the music the DJ was playing. Â
The rest of the crowd was either sitting at the high table or posting up at the bar. Â Not a whole lot goin on.
So if we went by Mari C's review of this place, right off you would know that either I'm a douche or a cougar. (What??! Well, go read her review and then you will know.) Before I let the "cat" out of the "bag" (wow, this cougar/douche thing is really working out so far -- thanks Mari!) let me say that both really have their pluses. It will be a hard call.
Before I launch into my feelings about Scarlet's I will let you know that I like the unexpected. Even when the unexpected is a bit off-kilter, rude, obnoxious, narcissistic or just plain drunk and stupid ... of course to a point. Now, you may be thinking already: "yeah, I see douchiness in her future," but please refrain from making a decision just yet.
Nothing negative happened at all at this bar, though and, in fact, quite the opposite. My friend (a guy) and I were there having drinks - go figure, right - and had only been standing for only a couple of seconds when two guys immediately got up and gave us their chairs. Douchey? Not really. They were entertaining a couple of blond bombshells who were quite intoxicated and quite showing their age - which couldn't have been more than 21. So .... cougars? Nah.
An observation I have of Scarlet is that its clientele is a spillover from its adjoined neighbor, the Powerhouse Pub, at least in terms of the wide range of ages. Being someone who is neither 25 anymore nor very many years older than 25, I dig the age discrepancy. Hmmm, do I smell a cat?
Other things I liked about this place is the nice outdoor, Sutter Street/Bidwell Street facing patio, the fan-within-a-fan hanging from the ceiling, colorful lights, a huge liquor selection and really cool, friendly wait staff. I did have to wait a long time at the bar for my drink ... and it wasn't totally slammed or anything, but that is just my luck. I have always been very horrible about getting the bartender's attention.
Anyway, so what am I? Cougar or Douche. Well, considering Mari's review ... and the fact I did not see any other cougars or douches at Scarlets when I went (maybe it's off season?) ... I must conclude that I am both Cougar and Douche!!! Making me a Couche! Or a Dougar. I am fine with this ... mostly because I just made up two new cool words. Feel free to use them yourself. And, if you would like to give me credit, I will Couchiously accept. Oh, also, Coucher works. Yay.
WHY is Mari C giving this place a 2 * rating even tho she had fun last weekend? Â Why she such a hater? Â Why is she speaking in 3rd person jargon?
Some things you just shouldn't question. Â Sometimes you just have to jump right in and ignore everything that doesn't make sense.
Microwave.
If I could, I would rename this bar: Douches vs. Cougars. Â It would be like a wine-cooler-fueled sporting event in which the winning team gets a lap dance from, well... anyone. Â Oh what a league it would be...
I think everyone should go here at least once, because if you're a douche or a cougar, you will have a BLAST. Â And if you're not, you will leave with a handful of self-worth. Â Or maybe a little something else if you know what i mean, hehe wink wink.
I chose the confidence. Â As did my friends, mind you. Â Most of them, anyway...
I have been to Scarlet's a lot ... I was a Folsom resident for about 4 years and still live pretty close. Â
I went there a few months ago with coworkers (I was desi that night) and sat up at the bar. Â It was pretty packed and this poor girl behind me wanted a drink and had been waiting what seemed like an hour, prob more like 20 min though. Â I called out her drink and let her slide in. Â Then when she got her drink I asked the bartender if I could get a water and he told me no because I had ordered for that girl. Â I told him the situation and that I was helping some random chick I didn't know and just wanted water. Â He told me to F myself. Â
I have never left a zero tip. Â EVER. Â I am a bartender and feel like it is hard to please everyone but we try as hard as we can and bust ass on a regular basis. Â But this time this dude crossed the line. Â I would never tell my customers to f themselves. Â So, this time the zero tip had to be done.
I left him a zero tip and made sure to let everyone I know in Folsom hear about my experience with this specific bartender. Â I will never go back to see if he is still employed there. Â Total jerk.
Most of these stars go toward the novelty of this place. Other than it looking like an old style saloon, it isn't very different from any other Bay Area bar.
My blurred memories can only take me so far -- I remember dancing to pretty decent music and taking shots with a bunch of red necks and some true American boys in cowboy hats. Made me feel like a country gal.
I came here with a friend to meet up with a group of her friends. We were on the guest list, so no cover, which was awesome! The first waitress never came back with our drinks, but the second one that came by was very cool. We had a cute looking hut where we chilled at. After a while, we left across the street to this other bar, they call the hotel, but, came back to Scarlet's and danced a few dances before we left to this other place for the rest of the night. All and all, it was an alright place to be at. It was somewhat of a mixed crowd and pretty packed.
Review Source:Went on Thursday to listen and West Coast Swing, WCS dance to the Deanoholics, Â http://dean-o-holics.com/ Â So much fun and I got a pic with Marilyn Martini. The music was a bit too fast for WCS, more ECS tempo but we found some to dance to. Â There were freestyle dancers and other partner dancers. Â Ages were 30-60 yo, I think because of the band. Â Well behaved crowd, avail seats on the Patio. Â Since it was ladies night, there were free giveaways like some bath gift baskets, pair of jeans, restaurant coupon. Â My friend Keli won the bath basket.
Arrived around 8:15pm and didn't have to pay a cover charge. Â Parking wasn't too bad. Â Not much seating but velvet covered bar stools at the bar and outside patio.
Dancefloor is small, linoleum covered cement, not too sticky. You share the dance floor with the band, singers and bar. Â The outside patio is awesome, they open all the doors to the dancefloor and bar they have ceiling fans to cool the night air. Â Even though there were ashtrays on the patio tables, thankfully no one smoked but people smoked outside of the Powerhouse.
There was a country band playing in the other bar, Powerhouse Pub. http://www.yelp.com/biz/…
Went there the other night with a date. Getting there early was great, because you could find a seat and get a drink, but later, when the party started to get going, the 2 bartenders were overwhelmed. It took 20 minutes to get a drink and the place was shoulder to shoulder. If you like loud standing room only, then this is the place.
Review Source:Scarlet is a pretty neat place to go people watching. Â On Fridays they have nude body paint in the patio. Â This usually causes a stir. Â There is no cover to get in but if you want to drink at PowerHouse, you have to pay cover to get in that bar.
There isn't much place to sit down in Scarlet so plan on standing most of the night and please wear comfortable shoes. Â Age group range from 21-50. Â Most people dress pretty well and behave themselves at this bar.
The decor is pretty eccentric and there is a big gong they hit sometimes that produces the super loud noise. Â there is a smaller bar outdoors. Â Good place to hang out for a little bit.
