I'd rather give this place negative five stars. There are several problems with it behind the scenes and out in the open. I know I used to work here for a year. The owner Ginny is crazy.
She waters down the alcohol after everyone is out of the bar, she is very racist, and gets really drunk, curses people out and she does other very derogatory things.
Several people that go into this bar and the weekend nights aren't even 21 years old, they get in illegally.
In the past year there has been a shooting and two stabbings, not including all the fights that happen there on a weekly basis, The bar has much potential if someone with half of a brain and is not money hungry would buy it.
Ginny treats her employees like they are nothing but money machines, and I dont think employers who talk down to their employees should get good business, Ask around town about Scobies and I can assure you the comments will not be positive.
OH YEAH AND ONE MORE THING, FOR ALL PREVIOUS EMPLOYEES THAT HAVE WORKED FOR GINNY AND ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE WAY SHE TREATS YOU, GO TO THE LABOR BOARD AND FILE A COMPLAINT, LATELY ALOT OF HER EMPLOYEES ARE GOING TO THE LABOR BOARD, I DID AND I WON.
DONT LET HER GET AWAY WITH TREATING YOU BADLY IS IT UNACCEPTABLE.
I had a party there a week ago and it was fun. Â The service was great and the food was off the hook. Â Even though there wasn't any sport on the tv there was still things to do. Â The younger people in my party (under 21) was able to play pool and the music was something that everyone in my party liked. Â The food was excellent. Â The only thing I could say is that I went back the following Monday and order the same thing and the nachos were discussing. Â When we had them on Saturday they were off the hook. Â They had avocodo and all kinds of things on them and on Monday it was just chips with melted cheese. Nasty.
Review Source:I'd rather give it no stars. This place is horrible. The people who work here are so rude. Unless your "like them" they don't service you. Walked in with my boyfriend sat at the bar. There were three women working, no one acknowledged us. After waiting so long we were finally able to order a drink. They lady had to look the recipe up on her iphone. I could go on about your staff, who I've seen drunk at other bars in Alameda..smh. I've been here before when it was much more crowded and got service right away. I'll never come here again I'd recommend heading to Lucky 13 we always get friendly service there and good drinks at a great price.
Review Source:I walkin to try the spicy wings that I herd about. The place could use a face lift, but the drinks were cheep in the bar section. I went to the back to order spicy wings with there own spicy sauce with sweet pitato fries. The food was really good. When I was done eating I had the pleasure of hearing the bartender talking about a bad booty call, it was quiet funny actually.
I did not want a stuffy place I just wanted to chill out, this was a good place to do that.
High School Reunion. Elementary, Middle school
I run into my ex's
Ugly guys
Good Drinks/Cheap
too many kids (though over 21) think they grown and throw up in the plants.
Go here if you dont have High expectations.
It's kinda small so watch your self, loose your seat real quick, DJ is decent when he wants to be. Small dance floor though
First off, this review is for Looney's Souther BBQ, which is featured INSIDE Scobies! (But there is no page for this location of Looney's)
We went to Looney's one afternoon at 2pm. We were meeting our parents. They were running late and unknown to us, Looney's was closing for it's normal closing hours of 2pm-5pm - the guy was super awesome an allowed us to order anways. Even though our parents didn't get there till 2:30pm.
The food was absolutely delish! We can't wait to go back again!
So the Korean food is gone from Scobies and Loony's Southern BBQ is now running the kitchen. I've passed by the other location on MLK in Oakland near the Children's Hospital and have been meaning to test it out...Now I get it local. I stopped in for lunch and got the pulled pork sandwich with fries. The fries were mediocre. The pulled pork, however, was pretty tasty. The medium sauce was a little spicier than than expected, but all in a good sandwich! I'm gonna sample a few more items and then I'll report back. The ribs, of course, will be the true tellin to this genuine southern boy!
Review Source:So, I've gone here a few times before to just grab a drink or whatever - it's a pretty chill spot.
We went here on a Saturday night and I was surprised to see that these people were charging a $10 cover for dudes. WHAT?! This place is pretty divey.. with a pool table, outdoor smoking patio, TVs with sports playing, ATM machine, juke box, divey style tables.. DIVE-Y. Shocked, I just stood outside for awhile before Birthday Girl was able to sweet talk the bill collector to waiving the $10.
The only "fancy" thing about this place is that they have a dude in the back serving sushi and a DJ. Must be charging a cover to pay the DJ because they're not making enough on the alcohol sales alone? SAD. This place must be in some financial trouble...
I wanna try the sushi there.. the pictures looks good.
Came post lunch, midafternoon to scobie's and there's nobody here, no door man, no cover charge, just me, Â the bartender, the sushiman, Â multiple flatscreens, a pool table, and a cavernous room to blend myself into. .
near the rear, an hanging sign reminds patrons : "please do not dance with drink in hand"
a DWD, dancing while drinking or dancing with drink. the dangers of wetting oneself and/or others should be self explanatory.
pours: pear cider (5)
-actually quite strong stuff
-many draughts and other spirits available.
on draught:
-many flatscreens. large space
-long bar, many tables for sitdown.
-need to wait steps enttering and exciting.
I didn't know they have Sushi!!! it was just sooooo yummy!
I had fresh mixed salad with spicy tuna and salmon. their special shrimps and scallops roll with tobiko. shrimp tempura was very juicy and crispy. wow the grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce was um~~ yum yum!! the fresh tuna was rich and fresh.
I didn't know what to expect upon arriving. From the outside, it appears to look like your typical sports bar...and when you enter, it is your typical sports bar---BUT, the first thing I noticed was the sushi chef standing in the corner at his little station! I love Blue Moon and for some reason, the Blue Moon here taste soo good! I literally drank it down like water. It was karaoke night but not too many participants on a Wednesday night. They have a patio/smoking area but their heat lamps don't work at the moment.
They have a fair amount of sushi on the menu. We ordered a variety of sashimi and a couple of rolls to share. I don't expect much from bar food, but I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Sushi at a bar. Awesome! However, the bartenders were really awkward. I had to ask for water three times. If you need to steer clear of annoying people, just occupy yourself at their Megatouch machine.
I had plans to meet my friends at La Mezon de Fer, which was supposed to be located inside Scobie's Bar...umm, wtf? My friend sent me an email that said it was a nice, little European place. LOL, well it wasn't! There was nothing remotely European or classy about this place. We weren't aware of the mistake until after we were inside and by then, it was too late. We opened the doors and walked into a bar with all eyes on us. This is the deadest bar I've ever seen in my life. It was 8PM (still early), but it was really, really dead. I think I heard a cricket chirp. Most of the patrons at the bar were their employees. Yep, they get paid to hang around cause it's so dead in there. The "grill" is to your left once you walk in. The only waiter, who also seemed to serve as the cook, thought it was odd when I asked him if we could sit and order, but he obliged.
The menu was filled with your typical bar food. The waiter notified us of the two specials of the day: cheeseburger with fries and the fish and chips. Our party of four all ordered cheeseburgers. I found it odd that the waiter didn't ask how well done we wanted our burgers. When we finally got our food, all of the burgers were rare, which was strange since the outside of the patties were crispy and charred. Honestly, the burger was not bad; better than Mickey D's, but not as good as In n Out. The fries were probably bought frozen and fried on site. Not bad for $5.
The bartender finally walked over about fifteen minutes after we were seated. I wanted Malibu and mango juice, but they didn't have that, so I opted for a Malibu with pineapple. It was so weak and tasted really watered down. My friend was having a hard time deciding what she wanted. I asked the bartender for some recommendations and he came up with nothing! Couldn't even name a beer! She decided on a blended margarita. We actually watched the bartender walk to the back to grab the blender. I guess it isn't used very much? I had a taste of her margarita and it was the worst I've ever had!
Scobie's isn't that bad, but it's definitely not the best. I haven't died from eating the burger and there are big screen TVs. I'm sure it's more lively later in the evening and on weekends...err, at least I hope so. There's karaoke and free pool (on Tuesday nights)!!! I'd avoid the restroom though. It was so dark in there that it was hard to find the toilet and I was sober!
Wow! Â A lot of negative reviews for this place...
My recent experience wasn't so bad. Â I came here recently with some friends, some of who were black, one of which was from Oakland. Â They never asked for IDs, and God forbid they weren't trying to charge a cover. Â We were given a nice booth near a big screen and they even changed the channel for us. Â They brought us pitchers with extra lemons on the side for our Widmers and brought new icy glasses for us halfway through...
The appetizers were decent bar staples, and the owner brought us out some sweet potato fries (on the house) that they've been working to perfect. Â She came around a few times during our visit to make sure we were okay. Â I understand that there is a sausage-fest vibe here, but this is a sports bar in Alameda. Â Those looking for more should maybe look elsewhere...
This place is fun, a bit dodgy, but fun. Â It also depends on the night you go. Â There are pool tables, loud music, food, and funny staff.
For a dive bar, it's not so dirty or gloomy inside. Â
On some nights, they have K-TV going on and I am actually pretty impressed with their international music selection. Â Being a polyglot, I know songs in many languages, and was surprised the DJ had songs from Latin America and Spain that even the local Latino/Hispanic population have not heard.... I was singing old Spanish Rock or South American Pop group music, and they never heard of these songs/groups, even though it was from their own countries! Â
It was an eye opener for them.... that some Asian guy was singing songs in their native tongue! Â lol
Prices are reasonable for drinks, and food is available. Â
There's a heated back patio area for those smokers.
It's not directly on Park Street, but close enough...... weird location, but at least people who go there "mean" to go there, rather than just "stumble" onto it, like other pubs on Park Street.
I'd go back. Â And have been back.... several times!
I've NEVER, EVER been charged to go into the place. Â Didn't know they did that.... it's never packed when I go..... hmmmm?
This place was ..... OKAY. It was kind of dead on a Saturday night, but then again, everyone was probably recovering from Friday night (New Year's Eve).
It was mostly an Asian crowd here. Reminded me of some Asian gangster local bar spot in a movie. Hahah.
1 star for the bartender. I was conversating with my friend at the bar, and the bartender walks past us, stops, and I assumed he was doing something at the bar, and mid sentence, he interrupts and throws in his opinion (I was talking about how marriages don't mean what they used to mean). I just thought it was funny that he was listening to our conversation....randomly. Haha.
I really like this bar. It's located in a small little town. Very quiet. Nice people and great bartender(s). The decor is cool. I like that back patio area for the smokers.
Only bad thing I have to say is, there is an older Asian lady there (approximately 40's). Short hair. Maybe 130lbs. She came in and started regulating on people. Ruined my buzz. She started cleaning up all  my stuff and told me to "hurry up and finish my beer". RUDE!! I do not like her!!  She doesn't speak English very well and she is always trying to say something. I told her to STFU!!
Once she comes, you should LEAVE!!
Last night my friends and I were out in Alameda for a Christmas pub crawl. Scobie's was on the list as one of our stops. Let me be the first to say I am completely disappointed and disgusted with this place.
There were about 15 of us in our group. Out of all the people with us, only one person had to pay to get in. When asked why he had to pay they told him, "You can have your ten dollars back, but you have to leave." Just so happens, another one of the guys in our group frequents Scobie's and knows the owner, so he decided to go talk to her. He asked her why his friend had to pay and no one else in our group did. She said that if your ID says your from Oakland or San Leandro you pay to get in because you are more likely to starts fights. Needless to say, we left after that.
I will not be going back to this place of business ever again.
Went here with a few friends after my dress fitting at Janene's (across the street). My fiance discovered Scobie's after my mother had kicked him out of the initial fitting (apparently its  bad luck?). The staff is really cool, the bartender and the waitress are really sweet. It was fairly empty (3 PM on a Saturday) but the crowd was a cool selection of locals.
There was a good selection of beer and personally, I'm a huge fan of emptier bars.
I came here last weekend for some midday drinks. The place was dead, but it was the middle of the afternoon so I'll accept that. They had a row of TVs showing some college football above the bar. Â The bathrooms were clean and they had a pool table, so good job, bar.
Off the top of my head, on tap were: Guinness, Fat Tire, and Blue Moon. There was also a hefeweizen and an IPA, but I don't remember what they were.
Scobie's provided a nice, quiet environment for sipping some beers with some good friends on a cold, gray Saturday afternoon.
Scobie's where do I start? The bar itself is quite nice as far as its appearance, I have been there many times. There is Karaoke some nights. The patio is a nice size.
The down side I found is that the patrons are generally rude the bartenders seem to be taking a cue from them because they aren't friendly at all either. The prices are far too high for a bar of its caliber (i.e. a sports bar).
So this is my first time there and it was recommended to me by a friend of mine. Going inside it was very spacious. Half the place there are seats to chill, drink and eat. The other half was a DJ and good enough size space for a dance floor and also a bar in the middle. There was a smoke area in the back which was cool spot nothing fancy or anything.
The environment was very chill a cool place to just kick back. The music was good and the prices for drinks were pretty average. It wasn't too crowded and all the people that were there were pretty chill and didn't act ghetto or crazy. Didn't really get to try the food there but I would go back again to try it out. Also there is a pretty cute bar tender don't know  if she still works there but yeah.
This place is real cool, went here on a Friday night and had a great time. Pool tables, good music and perhaps the Best nachos I have had in a long time granted I was slightly intoxicated!
The place was not packed, but had a great mix of people. Everyone there was nice and real relaxed unlike a lot of bars in Alameda. I would definitely visit this place again, gotta have those nachos!
There are two sports bars in Alameda, but Scobies has more screens to watch football and other sporting events. On this Sunday morning you will catch the die-hard football fans with their jerseys, baseball caps and favortite beers in their hand and then their is me...sweats, t-shirt, flip-flops and baseball cap( who combs their  hair on Sunday mornings anyways). One red-bull with orange juice please.
Last year I remember the breakfast being the roadkill breakfast and I had warned my gf about it. She was not too happy about it and she was ready to run to Starbucks if that was the case. Lo and behold the cooking staff was changed right before the start of football season and I would not have to suffer. I ordered the eggs and linguisa ($6.99) and it was not too bad. The scramble eggs were light, the linguisa was not greasy and the potatoes were ok ( a little hard and underseasoned). Â Scobies used to feature Everett & Jones barbq served but I think it has been discontinued.
Scobies features a full bar but nothing too exotic in terms of tequila, vodka or whiskey selection. They also have a couple pool tables and a juke box. The bar tenders seem very attentive. Thank goodness they have Direct TV and the NFL package.
Plenty of tv's and tables for large groups in this neighborhood sports bar make it a good spot for catching the game with a bunch of friends.
The crowd here kinda spans it all. From some Harley guys to some folks that looked fresh out of HS. They got a decent selection on tap and a pool table. Nothin' special but it does fill it's neighborhood sports bar niche.
They have a Mexican kitchen in the back, but no one seemed to be ordering from it.
Not bad.
I only go to Scobies when I'm there with my pops and his mens team after games. I'm not a huge fan. There's a couple pool tables, a table shuffleboard, and a bunch of TVs with different sports on. There is also a juke box that you can download and play songs on too. I'm just not super enthused with the fact that every time I've been in, the grille has been closed, even after they told us they'd stay open for the team, I mean, they DO sponsor them, you'd think they'd keep it open after a ball game for them.
No need to complain any further, as the kitchen is now an Everett & Jones.
Weird weird weird. Stopped in after not visiting for a long time and there was a dj?!?! Â Still easy to get a drink from the bar but if you are going to have a dj, atleast have one with a better set up. Sound system was smaller than my vocal PA at my bands rehearsal studio.
I'd still swing in, just not on a "club" night.
This is a strange and wonderful place. Under normal circumstances I probably wouldn't like Scobie's, but because we had come from five hours of sampling spirits at the Hangar One holiday open house, I found Scobie's to suit my needs.
I'm not a sports bar kind of person and after spending a few hours here, it seemed like Scobie's is a bit schizophrenic. Is it a dance club? a Korean restaurant? a sports bar? or just a run of the mill dive bar? I really couldn't figure it out.
What I did figure out is that Scobie's is Korean owned and the menu reflects this. We were a group of eight and decided to sample a variety of the bar snacks. Fish cakes? Korean hot wings? Not your typical bar menu, that's for sure!
The Korean chicken wings were out of this world. I mean bone licking out of this world and I usually don't even like wings.
I will definitely be back for the wings.
Meh. I've gone a few times to Scobies and I have to say that I've experienced better. Yea, even in Alameda. I'm not sure how to put my finger on it; whether it's the kinda-shifty-eyed patrons who track my every move when I do stop by on the random Saturday night; or perhaps, the cover-charge that we were hit with once when they had a dj (this is NOT a cover-charge place, folks). I like the outside patio, that's cool; but it always feels like a fight is about to pop off there at Sca... er, Scobies.
And that's just not the time-to-have-a-drink-and-relax-from-the-work-week atmosphere that I'm looking for on my weekends.
Yea... I think "meh" sums it up pretty well for this place. An additional note: don't park ANYWHERE near the entrance; the Alameda police have little to do and love to catch folks who walk out and hop straight into their driver's seats. You've been warned.
This place has a weird crowd. Rich and I didn't know what to expect.
It's a sports bar. I think that pretty much says it all. Their pool tables aren't regulation size, so that was disappointing. They have a good number of TVs, so it's a good place to watch the game.
This place gets a 3 instead of a 2 all because of SOPHIA. If you're reading this, why haven't you called my friend Rich? He says he can't sleep at night because he's been waiting for your call for the past 3 weeks. -True story. LMAOnade! Anyway, thanks for the free Red Bulls!
When I read the other reviews, I had to check the address to make sure I was at the right bar.
Scobies is one one of the best places to watch football in the Bay Area.
I went to Scobies to see the Pats/Cowboys Game. Â They were both undefeated and it was one of the few bars in the E. Bay that had it on. Â
They also had the Raiders/Chargers and Panthers/Cardinals game on at the same time.
I loved the bar and atmosphere. Â Great chicken wings. Â The Pats and Cow boys fans were riled up but each side ribbed each other. Â No one was a dick. Â No fights. Â No bullshit. Â Just good people and (hopefully) great football.
Anyway, ever since Kezar cut me adrift by overcharging for beers, I've been looking for a great sports bar to watch Sunday football. Â I'm glad I finally found it. Â 5 Enthusiastic Stars!
My visit to Scobie's was not long enough to write a full review. Â I was only here for a good 30 minutes (120 AM - 150AM). Â For the duration of my visit it was pretty entertaining. Â But not as entertaining as the two masculine men (1 of them was with his wife) who started to salsa dance together as the music pounded over the speakers. Â Now that's gangsta.
I hear nothing but good things about this place. Â I'm sure my stars will go up by my next visit. Â I can't wait!
I hate this place, especially at 2:30 am when the crack bitches & Ghotto Faboulous Hood Rats come into the streets for a little gang fight. Â
Trust me I lived accross the street for three years...and they sent me running...The noise & Ruckus caused me to spend thousands of dollars to move as far, far away as I could!
New Owner's...Who Cares...The city should outlaw this place!
I hate this bar. Â The people who work there are assholes. Â The customers are assholes. Â Their "food" is not edible. Â Every time I go there I swear I will never return. Â But then one of my friends insists on it and it becomes another terrible experience.
I will never step foot on their property again for the remainder of my life.
