Good food, great service.  Has a little problem with running out of menu items.  Dining room is small and challenging for the Service staff.  They seem to have grown their space already.

Pros: Great Food, and I mean great.   Fun, different menu for all tastes.
Cons: long waits as the dining area is small, especially on weekends, and very dirty bathrooms.   Love the food, will be back.

I'm just waiting for Guy Fieri to show up at this diner!  I have never had a bad meal at this place.  Everything except for the bread is made in-house, from scratch.  My husband says the coffee is some of the best he's ever had.  I'm so glad we finally have a place as classy as this right here in our back yard.

Does it get any better than this???  NO, it does not!  AMAZING omelets, potatoes, english muffins, apple butter.  Sometimes there's a wait but trust me when I say it's all worth it!

I've been here twice now and I really like it.  The food is so fresh and the service is great.  Also, nobody gives me any weird looks for dining out by myself, which is awesome.  :)  This morning I had the Cajun Scramble, which was awesome.  My favorite thing is their hashbrowns, which you can tell are cooked in real butter.  Nice and crisp on the top, just the way I like them.  The eggs are always light and fluffy.

I do remember reading another review before I went here and that reviewer said that it was yuppy food. They do have a good selection of things you won't find anywhere else in the area. That, I am certain of. But they have adapted well to what people from NW Indiana expect, which is large portions of food--enough for you to actually take home and feed yourself again entirely. So, in that realm, it's a fair price you pay for your food.
Now, I'm not so much one of those people who likes to take a doggy bag with me. I like to get a nice portion and finish it there in the restaurant, but that's just me.
The prices are high if you're the same type of customer. I think my burrito was about 9 bucks and I ate the whole thing because I didn't want to waste it and I wasn't heading home. It was really fresh and had nice chunks of ham and real swiss cheese and a pretty good apple butter, along with a few scrambled eggs. It was called an Orchard Wrap. It came with nothing else on the plate. No fruit, no potato, no nothing. Kinda strange for 9 bucks--an enormous burrito, but no sides. I would've loved a small burrito and a few pieces of fruit or a little pile of potatoes...just saying.
The restaurant was simple and clean and so was the service. Nothing really stood out, except the good food. Hubby had some sort of southwest skillet, which was also huge and no sides. I thought it was way too spicy for breakfast, but he liked it. It came with a huge pile of fried chorizo and some eggs on top. I have a cast-iron stomach, but not at breakfast-time. It looked like a mountain of heartburn from across the table.
Would we go again? Yeah, probably. It's not your typical Greek joint and there isn't anything else like it around.

Very good food.  Everything is homemade and fresh right down to the ketchup!  My husband and I both had a skillet and shared pancakes.  I'm normally not a pancake person but ate them all cause they were so good!  Only problem I had with
The Scrambled Diner was the fact it took so long to receive our food after we ordered (about 45 minutes).  I would normally consider this unacceptable for a breakfast place but the food was so good I would definitely return as long as time is not an issue!

This place is the best breakfast diner in the region.  The chef makes everything from scratch... the sausage, the salsa, the jams and jellies - all made by hand.  The menu is unique, the service is great!  100%  hands down the best place for breakfast in the region.  I've been here at least a dozen times, I have never been disappointed.

My In Laws have been talking about this breakfast spot for quite some time and so I was really thrilled while spending the night in Munster, that we'd get the chance to experience it for ourselves.

I live in Chicago, and experience delicious, fresh food all of the time, especially trendy new brunch spots.  I have to be honest, this is the best, breakfast I have had in a long time.

I order the Ray's omelet, my husband got the corned beef hash (best I have EVER had).  The jam, to the veggies and even the ketchup was all fresh, homemade and cooked to perfection.

Next time I spend the evening in NWI, I plan on returning!  Great job!

This place is by far the very best breakfast place my wife and I have ever eaten at. They make their own churizo and the churizo skillet is top notch! The french toast club was also amazing!! My wife summed it up best saying, "I'm so full and that's so sad because this makes me want to eat and eat!" The service was top notch, and the concept is flawlessly executed. To anybody crossing the Illinois/Indiana border near Chicago, this is an absolute must experience!
Bring cash - it's cash only so they can donate what would be credit card expenses to cancer research. They even have stevia (healthiest sugar substitute) at the table! Outstanding!!

Not sure where to begin, from the fact that the wait was way long. 3 people, 30+ minutes wait time, at least there was free coffee... to reiterate a previous reviewer "coffee was bad" I was not a fan of it either.
We finally get seated and get ready to order. As we wait I look around and; I don't think there were more than ohhh 9 or 10 tables, most of which were for 2. That's one reason the wait took so long I guess. The dining room felt crowded, I mean there was room but, with a small area it seemed a lot more cramped than it probably was.
On to the meal, got coffee... still not a fan. I wanted biscuits n gravy, they had no biscuits... I ordered "The Garbage" skillet and a side order of cinnamon rolls, they had no cinnamon rolls... one person got "Uncle Ray's" omelette the other I was with got an omelette as well(peppers, onions, goat cheese and mushrooms). So here we are, waiting... again... another 20 minutes gone, math time-  30+mins + 20mins = 50+ minutes . Damn, Chicago steakhouses are faster, even WITHOUT a reservation. OK OK, maybe I was just hungry n didn't like waiting and needed to vent but, that was too long.
Food comes out, looks great! Large serving size too. I started with toast and Apple butter, really tasty. Dug into "The Garbage" . In general it was OK at best. The scrambled eggs on top were like any scrambled eggs you can get anywhere, scrambled. Chili was lacking seasoning it was pretty bland, salt helped though, two  shakes of it. The "burger patty"... it was cooked ground beef again, needed seasoning. Apparently there was hashed potatoes in there somewhere, I didn't see em, maybe they got mixed in the chili or something.
I tried a bite of the omelettes, both were pretty good. Goat cheese was especially tasty. Veggies were cooked well with just enough crunch left.
All in all though I'd probably go back, at least to see if the wait is shorter and the coffee better.

I typically have breakfast when I go to The Scrambled. I heart the french toast and the turkey sausage patties. I recently tried the buffalo chicken sandwich and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.

The sandwich comes with grilled chicken, fresh crumbled blue cheese and lettuce on french bread. The flavor of the chicken and the blue cheese is sooo good. The buffalo sauce comes on the side and was a bit oily, but it was still decent. The fries were awesome...probably some of the best I've ever had.

Pretty nice portions for the price. They have recently started to accept credit cards which was a big deal for some...not for me though.

If only they would burn my hash browns the way I like them and have a better beverage selection...they could have five stars.

My wife and I and 2 boys have been patrons since Scrambled's opening.  We have eaten there probably 30X and it is consistantly the best breakfast/lunch venue in the south suburbs.  I've been to them all from New Lenox to Hammond.  If you have an appreciation for good tasting food this is the place.

Clean. Great food (food is fresh, high quality ingredients, cooked perfectly every time and served HOT) as you all know this combo is rare these days.  Service can be slow, all depends on the waitress.  Bring CASH

Only recommendation I would make to the owners is b/c so popular the wait has become a bit excessive and recommend expanding into the empty store front.  But hey, I'm not paying the bills but do think it does turn away the regular Joe.

Food is great but the service has a lot to be desired.  Be prepared to spend  2 hours eating breakfast.  We arrived at 11:40 & didn't leave till 1:20.   We waited 35 minutes to be seated, then waited even longer to get the check, & left money on table since I never saw the waitress again.  Again some things aren't worth the wait, no matter how good the food is, I have other things to do besides sit there.  Food is very good,  if you don't mind waiting, otherwise order it to go

I hated the coffee (mid to dark roast, and probably 100% robusta), but enjoyed the rest.

I had the blueberry pancakes and shared a side of bacon and a homemade cinnamon roll with my husband.

The cinnamon roll is huge - a meal on its own- and wins the award or the most cinnamon-y. A lot of places I've been to skimp on the amount for some inexplicable reason.
The pancakes were bursting with blueberries and reheated the next morning incredibly well.

BIG portions, excellent value - especially as there were leftovers for the next day!

    Quick and pleasant service too.
I heard that everything is made from scratch which boosts this from a 4 star review to 5.

    I would definitely return.

Great place for breakfast!  Everything is home made, great homemade apple butter for the toast, and the hot sauce and ketchup are homemade, too! I had the wilted green/tomato/goat cheese omelet, awesome!  Wonderful thick cut bacon and great coffee.

A little pricy?  Yes, but you get what you pay for.  A $4 breakfast tastes like a $4 breakfast.  I'll happily pay a little more for a breakfast that tastes this good!

Awesome breakfast joint. Visiting family there during Thanksgiving, wanted to go something better than the usual places.  My brother recommended this place.  Everything is made from scratch.  Biscuits and gravy were fantastic, a very different approach than the traditional dry biscuit and white flour gravy.  You can taste immediately that they took care in every element of what they do there.  I highly recommend this place.  Especially if you're looking for something different for breakfast.

A really cute place but I should have  chosen breakfast instead of lunch food. The pork in the pork confit sandwich was overcooked and dry, and the seasonings  in the pumpkin soup overshadowed the pumpkin flavor. However, the folks at the table next to me said that the pumpkin pancakes and French toast with blueberries were delicious.

Incredible, a place serving homemade breakfasts in northwest  indiana. Not the same scrappy foodservice ham, generic eggs, and frozen hashbrowns. They know how to cook, vegetables in omelettes are not raw or canned, and combinations are great.
As for cash only, big deal. They give a percentage of their proceeds to cancer research, I'd prefer to give a few percent to cancer research rather to the banks. If that makes you hostile towards going here, go the Round the Clock or The Paragon and charge to your heart's content. And too expensive?? Then I repeat, go the northwest Indiana staples, eat your factory food and you'll save a couple of dollars. For a breakfast that is properly prepared and made from scratch, it's worth it.

The Scrambled is a true treat for Region foodies.  Cage-free, local eggs; untypical breakfast creations; and homemade EVERYTHING, from cinnamon rolls to the jams and ketchup to the sausage and corned beef and chorizo.  All of this without any yuppiness, which would be a big turnoff considering the area.  The portions are hearty, the coffee is strong and above average quality, the service couldn't be much better.  As long as you remember to bring cash (or not - there's an atm inside), and don't mind an inevitable wait, you'll be in for the best breakfast experience in NWI.

On my most recent visit I had the French Toast Club: french toast stacked with eggs your style, sugar hickory bacon, and your style cheese - asiago in my case.  It was great.  The cinnamon rolls are truly unbelievable.  The Monkey Pancakes, the most indulgent thing on the menu, are to be marveled at.

I was wavering between 4 and 5 stars for The Scrambled, because while it is undoubtedly the best breakfast place in the Region, it's not quite perfect.  Disagree if you will, but I believe there's a line when it comes to portion sizes - sometimes they are just too large.  Scrambled Diner is right on the border of this line... I went here with a large group and after everyone had eaten themselves sick, it made me nauseous to stare at all the half eaten, sauce-drenched food still sitting on the table.  At least, as another reviewer pointed out, it's not all Sysco food service crap - it's actually a much higher quality, which is somewhat a redeeming quality.

If you love breakfast, or just food, and you're in the Region, do not miss Scrambled!

Everything here was fantastic.    We had the southwest omeletes and normally I cannot get eggs at breakfast due to an allergy to antibiotics in regular eggs.   This place hooked me up with the antibiotic hormone free eggs and I was finally able to eat an omelet.   The chorizo is homemade, the salsas are homemade, the jams are homemade, even the ketchup for the hashbrowns is homemade.   It is cash only so there was a little more planning than normal involved but well worth it.    It is definitely the best breakfast in NWI

Everyone's reviews of The Scrambled really show how this little cafe lives up to the hype, but I think I'm going to present the single most important facet of this place that truly makes it the best breakfast place in the region, if not Indiana:

    It is a non-Greek restaurant.

Now, the owners and cooks could be Greek for all I know; that's not what I meant. This isn't the type of diner that is the equivalent to EVERY SINGLE breakfast joint in the area. For lack of a better term, The Scrambled doesn't prepare the exact same food and menu that The Commander, Round the Clock, Sophia's, The Wheel, Johnel's, WHEREVER have. You're not going to find any Sysco food service stuff here.

I think it was Steve Dolinsky who described this place as "beyond the predictable" and that's exactly what it is. You'll find some ordinary menu items that cater to the NWI people that don't like to stray from their Greek restaurant norm, but you'll also find  the type of dishes that place this cafe in with the trendier restaurants that Chicago elitists pursue. (The Scrambled can give Yolk a run for its money any day of the week.)

They use fresh, local ingredients and pretty much everything (if not everything) is homemade---right down to the fresh preserves and foccacia. My orchard omelet, made with fresh apple butter, ham, and cheddar cheese was served with three heavy strips of thick bacon, a deliciously unique nest of angel hair-thin hash browns and thick toast with fresh preserves. Priced at $8, I thought it was a little steep until the food came out. The portions could easily feed two people, but the taste and homemade quality of the food are worth more than the price. If this restaurant reserved a little spot on north Halsted in Chicago, they would easily be able to price their plates at $15 a pop.

It's a VERY small restaurant--sort of a thorn in their side--because it's packed ALL of the time and I think they could have a hugely successful business if they expanded into the vacant properties next to them in the strip mall. But that's not really their fault. They're new and I have a feeling that with their success already, they'll be expanding soon.

I gave this review one less star because of their decision to go cash only. I know that they're trying to save money and some portion of their sales go to a charity or something, but this is the one mistake that business owners everywhere make. They think they're saving money on credit card fees, but think about all of the business they're LOSING by not accepting them. If I was able to use my credit card the day I went, I know that for a fact, I would have bought a sandwich to go.

I have a hunch that in the future, they'll start accepting credit cards. Plus, they have an ATM in there, so it's not like you'll ever be strapped for cash. But the moment their business opens up to credit cards, this review will be upped one star.

I havent stepped a foot inside since being converted from the old hotdog food joint but my wife has ordered pickup from there 3 times and each time i had the same thing, french toast. I cant get over how good it is,it will take at least 2 people to finish it off!! Its that big of a serving well worth it in my world.

The only reason I give it 4stars and not 5 because  I've only tried the one item on the menu just dont want a let down but will find the courage to try other menu items soon. A must try if in the area

Went in after cutting our fresh Christmas tree at Luers Farm, we stopped in for brunch at The Scrambled Diner.  I cannot praise this place enough.  Every single thing we ate or drank was completely and totally delicious.  Coffee: Fresh brewed, OJ: Fresh squeezed, Turkey Sausage: homemade, Raspberry & Strawberry Jams: Homemade...we got the Garbage Skillet, the Caramelized Onion, Wilted Greens and Goat Cheese Omelet , and the Ham, Cheese and Apple Butter Omelet, along with wonderful fresh toasted bread and english muffins.  Seriously, this place is absolutely incredible.  You can tell that the owners put the time and love into each item...you can taste it in every bite.  We all stuffed ourselves well and had some very happy tummies afterwards.  A note: the doughnut holes are HUGE!  Wonderfully dense and tasty, but very big.  We ended up bringing ours home for a treat later on in the afternoon.  They were delicious.
Do yourself a favor and check this place out if you haven't already.  The staff is super friendly and the food is amazing.  Can't wait to go back!

I do not really get the hype.  Nonetheless, they have a decent breakfast.  I have been a few times and have tried almost everything on their menu because my parents love the place.  Personally, I think there are better value places in the area.  Everything seems to be a bit too expensive. Not to mention that because of the small size of this place, getting a table is sometimes an annoying chore.  Also, it's the 21st century, accept a credit card.

    Hello FOOD SNOB  here.
Nice change from your regular breakfast joints.  This place is for real.  I had the Healthy Skillet, one of many on the menu.  Everything was fresh, spinach, real sauteed mushrooms not canned.  With 2 eggs on top of Great Hash Brown Potatoes.    My wife had the Irish Skillet with Sauerkraut and real Corn Beef again not canned.
I,m not a big Pancake eater but my daughters was fluffy and tasty.  Good size portions too.   This is a Neat Little place to go for Breakfast or Lunch.
Will have to try the latter next time.   If there was something to complain about it would have to be the price of coffee at $2.25,  but it sure was good and hit the spot.

I have now worked my way through the entire menu (sans the Orchard Omelet and the pancakes and french toast) and gotta say all is good. The chef is always willing to make an omelet as a skillet. The bruschetta omelet as a skillet was incredible. I do love the garbage skillet - yes, chili for breakfast is awesome.

The ONLY complaint I have is that even though they charge you for an omelet, if they make it as a skillet you don't get meat and toast.

My  breakfast with tip usually comes to $15 - pricey.  BUT! There is always enough for a second meal so I justify it as TWO breakfasts!

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT MISS THE SCRAMBLED DINER!!!

after hearing some rave reviews, my sister and i decided to check out the scrambled diner last weekend.  it was worth every penny and my trip to the ATM.  while it is cash only, the food is really reasonably priced, so it won't break the bank.  most of the food falls within the $5-$11 range.

we came here on a Saturday morning around 11am, so just as we would at any other good breakfast spot, we had to wait about 20 minutes for our table.  after we were seated, our waitress very promptly brought out water and menus.  my sister and i decided to split a cinnamon roll, omelet florentine, and the orchard omelet.  the cinnamon roll came out firrst, and it was slathered in a delicious cream cheese frosting; the inside of the roll was really soft and perfectly baked.  i'm drooling just thinking about it!

our omelets were really big for only having 3 eggs; the omelets were really fluffy and flavorful.  the florentine was a perfect balance of veggies and cheese with having just the right amount of each.  the orchard omelet was good, but the apple butter on the inside gives an extra richness, which can be too much for some people.  the hashbrowns were extremely crispy & buttery on the outside, which is just how i like it.  it was really the kind of breakfast that keeps you full all day.

my only complaint was that the coffee was a little weak; it came in a giant mug, which is a nice touch...but i wish they just brewed it a bit stronger.  the coffee is not enough to deter me from coming again; i'm sure i'll be stopping in every time i'm in town.

The Scrambled Diner is great for those weekend mornings you just want to find a satisfying breakfast, nearby, and go back home to get under the covers again.  The pancakes were moist, the hashbrowns were crisp, and the owner personally came to the table to see how things were going.  It's a nice alternative to McD's breakfast, and they have takeout also. Now here's the big BUT...no credit/debit cards...WHAT?! It must be a major issue too, because it was robotically explained there is an ATM at Beggar's. Who wants to pay an atm fee? If this were a hot dog cart fine, but it's 2010...you need a swiper Scrambled Diner.
