I've been twice. 1st time I sat at the sushi bar, it was just okay. Not busy at all. 2nd time got it to go. Had the Hamachi Kama and spicy tuna roll. No go on the spicy tuna. Great yellow tail though! Nothing to rave about for Talega.

Over it!  Waited for an hour to be seated for happy hour menu and pricing.....  Watched tables sit empty which was not normal with their normal staffing.  Was seated right at the minute happy hour was over.  Easy out response that they can't give the happy hour pricing because the computer won't let them.

It's never been like that here.  I hope they get their happy hour figured out so it's controllable for them.

    The service just wasn't there!

Ended up not ordering and walking out for some great pizza with some great friends!  As a good friend said, "ended up checking out!"

I came here once for their 1/2 priced sushi happy hour and thought it was just ok, but I thought I'd give it another shot for regular priced lunch. It was the same situation but with even worse service. Sushi was mediocre and a bit pricey, but the service was absolutely horrible. I came on a slow day for lunch. There was maybe 6 other people dining, but I guess the waitress was too involved folding napkins to care that I wanted something to drink. After I ordered my roll, the sushi chef asked me if I had time and I said sure, not quite sure why he asked. Well, I came to find out that he wanted to put another order in front of mine because they were sitting at a table??? Then after my roll was dropped no one bothered to talk to me. A regular came in and the baseball game was on. I pretty much didn't exist. I was going to get another roll, but being that I had absolutely nothing to drink and I wasn't even offered any more food or even asked if I liked the one I had...it was just poor customer service from start to finish. I simply got up with money in my hand and asked to pay (almost $16 for one roll with no beverage btw). The only reason I'd ever come back here is if I was desperate for some raw fish at 1/2 price happy hour.

The fish here is pretty good. You have to sit up at the bar though. The service in the dining area is BAD. We had the "little"  female server and she had ATTITUDE like no other! MAKE SURE TO SIT AT THE BAR.

Fresh fish, great sushi chefs, and pretty decent prices.... all around good place.

I would def go here again. =)

This place is pricey.  5 of us for just over $300 without the tip.
The waiter treated me like he couldn't see me, he forgot to take my order and took my plate long before we were done.
Some of the Sushi & Sashimi were not good, some was fair.
Long ago I picked a Rainbow Roll as a bench mark  to judge prices of Sushi places, this one is $14, that is a little high.  Most sushi is $6-$7.50 that is a lot high for the quality.
There are better places to go but the people in Talega probably don't want to leave it as it is so nice.

Don't Pass Go... Go directly To Jail... if you eat here.  If you find yourself pulling into the parking lot, get the not so fresh packaged sushi from Ralph's in the same center!! It's better!! Scary but true.

Horrible Ikea like decor.. I'm thinking the Boy Scouts did their eagle project here and made the furniture.  Definitely do not sit at one of the back tables, you 're back will never be the same and chiropractors will solicit you with business cards on the way out.

The bar is teeny tiny for all the Talegans desperately needing to get away for a little night life. Lot's of The OC boob jobs though.  The food is expensive and mediocre - not a good combo for repeat biz.

I only came here since a friend of mine wanted to come here. The place seemed a little plain but it was pretty new. It is one of the few sushi places in San Clemente.  The sushi chefs were less than enthusiastic in their greeting and the service wasn't event close to being decent.

The food was decent.  The sea bass and foie was ok. The foie wasn't what I expected.  I really enjoyed the toro and the sweet shrimp which were quite good. I really can't remember what else but the drinks were very good. I think I had the mango mojito and some hawaiian martini drink that tasted like a pina colada.

Was it decent? Yes! Would I drive all the way out there to eat there? No! Bluefin is much closer, so I will stick to that.

Third in Chef Takashi Abe's burgeoning restaurant empire, Sea Smoke is billed as a family restaurant.  The menu seems to be drawn mostly from Bluefin with some courses from Izakaya Zero thrown in for good measure.

The food at Sea Smoke was solid, which surprised me since, I wasn't impressed with Bluefin or Izakaya Zero shortly after they opened, although Bluefin did get better with time.  Maybe with a familiar menu in hand, they were able to import some Bluefin alums and speed up the opening process.  Unfortunately the restaurant has not added an omakase menu yet although one is coming.

My friend and I ordered a smattering of dishes and some sushi.  The standouts included the Toro and Sweet Shrimp, everything else I felt was done better at Bluefin.  Dinner for 2 came out to be $290 after tax, tip, and drinks.  For that price, I'd rather go to Bluefin and have the omakase.
