Senor Iguana's... I know it can have mixed reviews.  My experiences have varied over the years, but I still come back, so it must be good enough... right?

I've waited here occasionally, but generally I have been seated almost immediately upon arrival, which I like.  This is never friendly to my Weight Watchers, because when you arrive, they'll put chips and salsa... and the best white sauce/dip!!!... on your table.  I still have no idea what that white dip is, but it is addictive!  Yum!!!

Fajitas are my personal favorite here, or rather in general.  Nothing different than other Mexican restaurants I've been to for the most part.  Pretty consistent on how they're made, and if you go at lunch, you can get a lunch-sized portion (which is still more than enough).  They do have a lunch menu, which is nice.

However, the majority of people I know get the chimichanga here.  My taste buds have actually never met the chimi, but everyone seems to love it.  Now I think I'll have to try it sometime.

Otherwise... the service varies.  Sometimes they're on it; sometimes they're not.  I drink a lot and like water refills; sometimes I get them quickly... sometimes I don't at all.

I'm between a 3 and 4 on this review.  There's nothing "bad" about it, but it's also nothing super out of the ordinary.  I enjoy it and will go back (soon, I'm sure), but there are better restaurants in Louisville.  But that white dip... mmm...

Not being native to Kentucky, simply a visitor, our hosts were given the task at finding us somewhere tasty to eat. Our first stop, to Chuy's, yielded an hour wait time and, having driven 12 hours, we were hungry and unwilling to wait, so we drove a little bit until we came to Senor Iguanas.

We were in luck, no wait there. Were seated promptly, but that was about the only thing that was prompt. We put in a drink order, we didn't get any of our drinks, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, for over 15 minutes. The restaurant was crowded but not so crowed that we needed to wait 15 minutes for drinks. And we still hadn't put our order in. We put our order finally, after waiting roughly 30 minutes. It took not too long to come out, but we didn't see our waiter again until we had been eating for 10-15 minutes. We were all low on drinks, it would have been nice if we could get  a refill to go with our spicy food.

To finish it all off, we asked for the check and that took our waiter more that 15 minutes to bring to us.

To sum it up, the food was delicious, but if I ever go there again, I would order the food to go and avoid dealing with the service.

Good Mexican food! I like to go here after class with my UofL classmates and they are always able to accommodate a group whether it's two people or twelve. Try the carnitas! Oh, and with the chips and salsa they will also bring you a bowl of white sauce that I haven't had at any other Mexican restaurant. Kinda like a twist on ranch...not sure what it is but it's good!

Drink specials vary by the night, but in my experience, I'd recommend not ordering their mojito...it tasted like sprite with basil in it. Maybe they got mixed up on which liquids and herbs are part of the recipe? Stick with the margaritas or their beer specials.

You can get some pretty decent Mexican fare here. I prefer cuisine which is more authentic. It would be an easy 4 star, if like you like it a bit more "Americanized". The prices are very reasonable. And, the service is normally on point.

Let's just get this out on the table first thing - $1 domestic drafts on Tuesdays. One. Dollar.

Way to blow my mind, Senor Iguana's. And scoping their website, the other drink specials are pretty tempting as well. There is a drink special every day of the week ($2 Margaritas on Sunday and Monday, 2 for 1 Margaritas on Wednesday, $2 domestic bottles on Thursday, $2 well drinks on Friday, and 2 for 1 mojitos on Saturday) and that is enough to make this girl a very happy camper.

I went with my cousins who say they frequent this restaurant above all other Mexican options in Louisville because of the white salsa. It wasn't my favorite- too much mayo taste for my liking. However, I ordered the burrito de carne asada and was super pleased. The cheese sauce just the right amount of spicy and the steak was cooked perfectly. And can we talk about the rice? Mmmm.

Service was sub-par; we had to track down the server a couple of times to get our checks and then to pay, but it was fairly busy (being one dollar draft night and all.) Overall, not my favorite Mexican restaurant and definitely not the most authentic, but the drink specials and the burritos will definitely bring me back.

My absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in Louisville. Best Salsa of anywhere I've been. I love the burritos and the fajitas are to DIE for. Also the best service I've had at any Mexican restaurant, we've become such regulars now they know our names and what we like. The iguanaritas is delectable and dangerous, in a good way!

Two words: Margarita Mondays.  Otherwise, don't bother.

The food is nothing more than blah.  Service is meh.  Just stick with margaritas at the bar and you'll be a lot happier with your Senor Iguanas experience.

Good food, large portions. Service was not so good.  Friendly waiter, but that's about it.

I really love this place. Like really really love this place. We are moving soon out of state, and I am really sad that we won't have one of these nearby. I guess you could say my wife and I are regulars. Maybe come here 1 or 2 times a week, lunch or dinner. I think every once in a while you get a fluke in the service, but 95% of the time the service is great, the food comes out fast, the taste is great. One of the reasons we come here is because usually like 10 to 15 minutes after we order we have our food. I love the salsa here. It's made fresh and I haven't found a place with salsa that compares. We have been to many other Mexican restaurants in Louisville, (including El Mundo, which I cannot fathom why anyone likes) but I always find them lacking in some respect to this place. Not to mention as far as Mexican restaurants go, this place is always 1$ to 2$ cheaper. The margaritas are always pretty strong as well. We usually get the carnitas, chimichanga, burritos, enchilada mole, tacos, fajitas, fajita nachos. Well, we come here a lot. I love this place!

I have been to El Nopal, El Mundo, El Tarasco, Chuy's (if you count that as Mexican), Sol Aztecas, El Torazo, Santa Fe Grill, and others whose names escape me at the moment.

    Also, Fernando is awesome!!

Tonight my opinion of Senior Iguanas went downhill after I was charged for an appetizer that didn't correctly make it to my table until after my entree had already been served.  A friend and I went in for dinner and started by ordering the Queso Fundido appetizer with chicken only.  After more than a half an hour the waiter brought it to our table with steak and chicken and no tortillas.  We sent it back to the kitchen to be remade.  However rather than bringing us a new one the next thing to show up at our table was our entrees.  Just as we were finishing our rather large entrees the waiter showed up with our remade Queso Fundido but still no tortillas to even eat it with.  So we had to send him again to get flour tortillas so we could even eat the dish.  However, both of us really wished that they had just asked us if we still wanted it as we agreed that we would have cancelled the dish has we known that it would have been served after our entree.  Or if nothing else perhaps they might have considered comping the appetizer as it really wasn't an appetizer by the time it was served.

Normally I hate this style of Mexican Food, but Señor Iguanas is actually pretty decent.  However, the location and atmosphere leave much to be desired.  It's basically in a strip mall with a great view of the Kroger parking lot.  Inside it is very clean and new, but nothing really sets it apart.  The service is really bad, but if you're not in a hurry I guess that's okay.  I think one thing that makes the food fairly good is that it is very salty.  Drink before you go, get a margarita to kick in your buzz, then get a big Suiza burrito. Then have some beers ready for your walk to the UofL football/baseball game, or races Churchill Downs.  This is a pre-game recipe for success.

Conveniently located just south of U of L's Patterson (baseball) Stadium and east of Churchill Downs, I had low expectations for this Mexican restaurant and they were fulfilled.

I was here with a group of six. One of us spilled a drink on the table (OK, I admit, it was me!) but no one was dowsed. I went to get the server.

    He said: "Oh, that's OK".

I responded, "No, really, I need a towel and cleanup immediately."

That pretty much summed up the service ethic for the remainder of our stay. This guy couldn't be bothered and I got out of my seat twice to hunt him down (including the once described above).

    - Enchilada sauce was unchallenging (not spicy or hot but bland).
    - They offer only refried beans (you always lose a star with me if you can't be bothered to serve healthful, whole beans).
    - Good luck finding a server for drink refills, etc. Prepare to be assertive.

Great food and atmosphere.  Has the best chips and salsa ever.  Try the tamales.

What a great restaurant!!!  We found this by accident & decided to try it. It was surprisingly great!  Youd may much much more for the same food if the seating was swankier.  Great deal. Delicious mole sauce & perfect salsa w lots of cilantro. Were eating here again tonight!!

I'm a new Yelp user and so far, it's 2 for 2.  I was there on a Sunday and had the Ceviche (only served Sat. and Sun.).  It was the first time I've had it so I don't have anything to compare it to but I do know that it was delicious - I'd highly recommend it.
2 of us had the fried cheesecake and weren't really impressed - first it took 20 minutes to get and then it was only "decent' tasting.
Overall service was fair but the entree was good enough to still get 4 stars.

When my friend told me she was taking me to a Mexican restaurant in Louisville, I was incredulous.  I'm from New York.  I'm a snob.  For that I apologize, but at least I can acknowledge it?  Anyway, I love tacos and chips, so I wasn't really going to complain.

We got there and I scoured the menu.  It's pretty big with a lot of options.  I saw my newest addiction, tacos al pastor.  The first time I had said delicacy, they were delicious.  The second time, not as delicious.  Let's see what this third selection will bring.

As I waited for my tacos, our waiter brought our drinks and chips and salsa.  I had a nice mojito.  And I devoured chips.  More and more and more chips!  I love chips.  A lot.  They were still warm and I extra love chips when they are warm.

Then our food arrived.  By then I was starving and just wanted to dive into my taco!  I added some pico de gallo to it, but that's just me and my love of pico.  Then I bit into it.  I tasted something in my al pastor.  Sweet...hmm...  That's right!  Al pastor is made with pineapple and they left bits of the pineapple in the taco.  Dude, I love this.  Awesome!  I want more pinappley tacos!  Before I knew it, all my tacos were gone.  I nibbled on the rice and beans.  I thought the beans were way too salty.  The rice was a standard Mexican rice.

Since I was on vacation, I also needed dessert.  And when I go to a Mexican place, the only dessert I ever want is flan.  Flanny goodness.  I don't think I've ever met a flan I genuinely did not like, and this Iguana's fit into that category.  Nothing remarkable, but a good standard flan.  For the hell of it, I also ordered a horchata to go.  Not the best I've ever had, but I love horchata so I was pleased.

All in all, I genuinely enjoyed my meal at Senor Iguana's and definitely would come back.  Especially for some pineappley al pastor.

I thought this place would be equal to El Nopal or El Tarasco but it doesn't come close.  Basically it was bland Mexican food.  There are too many other quality Mexican places close by. Once here was enough for me.

It doesn't look like much on the outside. A tiny, iguana-wrapped sign is somewhat hidden amongst the other storefronts at this Central Station strip mall. I thought it was about the size of a Subway sandwich shop. Turns out... it's quite bigger... maybe the size of a Dennys.

This is a local chain with a few notches in its belt. A few locations are starting to pop up in the Kentuckiana area.

Nice decor. Similar to a Mexican chain restaurant. The entrance is a little congested, though. A tiny area is bordered by a couple of benches and a checkout area. They have relieved a little of the congestion by now having customers pay at their table. The entrance was sometimes a cluster of people coming in and people lining up to pay.

In short: Food = good. Menu = medium-large. Service = good (though getting seated sometimes takes a while to be acknowledged). I've been on a fish taco kick for a while and I love them here. While most items are what we normally find at an (American) Mexican restaurant, some of the items allow for more tastes exploration... such as cactus (very good, btw).

Overall, I really like this place. I've been several times and plan to return.

The food is fresh and tasty! A cozy atmosphere plus a not to expensive menu keeps us going back again and again. The banana burrito is a must have dessert! Kid friendly but there's also a nice bar if you would like to have a few after dinner beers.

well run place. they can handle pre- and post- event rushes very well. and while the standard rocks margaritas aren't the world's tastiest or strongest, the chili rellenos and tilapia tacos are great!!
