OK so despite my reviews... I'm here again. The thing with this restaurant is simple... Its like entering the unknown. Truly! I either enjoy my meal, service, and ambiance OR it's absolutely blah!! Today... So far... Don't wanna jinx it... But it's pretty good:) I admit I stay away because it's fickle fury, but today I decided okay I'm gonna go. I chose the dine LA dinner menu ( which are always a steal anywhere and strongly suggested). The seta basic salad is refreshing. Although its your very basic salad, the taste blends well. Sometimes simple is preferred. Next, my main course included Alaskan king salmon on cedar plank, shaved Brussels sprouts, cream cheese mashed potatoes, finished with a  Chardonnay whole grain mustard cream. For dessert, seasonal berry shortcake and whipped cream. Overall, a satisfying meal and experience.

Seta met all our expectations and much more! We just had a small engagement dinner for 23 people and it all came together perfectly! The staff at Seta were superb and extremely attentive to all our needs. They accommodated our request to show a video, staged an area for gifts and were always present just in case I had questions or additional requests.
My guest gushed over the delicious choice of entrees. Everything was prepared to perfection.  We had a choice of almond encrusted corvina seabass or port braised boneless short ribs or a boîte honey chicken. My guests were so pleased with the choices and most importantly the delicious taste.  We would absolutely have an event here again, in fact I will be planing a work event here very soon. Can't wait to get back to Seta!

Very much a fan of this restaurant. Wanted to try this place out for a very long time. Finally got a chance cause I had a 50% off coupon.

All in all the food was good, service could have been a bit sharper and ambience was as expected.

I had the Miso Fish and the braised pork is awesome!

We went at 7:30pm on a Friday and it started quickly getting packed.

If you are looking for DTLA vibe in Whittier, Seta is your place

My friend did bottle service here for his birthday. I have to admit as soon as I heard Whittier, I cringed. To my surprise everything was great. The staff was friendly, the bottle service was reasonably priced. We had our own back room next to the dance floor. The dance floor was a little small but the music was great. The only bad thing had nothing to do with the business...rather with someone with a bad case of horrible gas :X

Went here last week with some friends, fount the service in the bar really sucked. They were more concerned with socialising with each other than helping customers.

Seemed overpriced for the portion size. The food however was really good. I would like to come back and try more items.

Our party ordered Steak, Salmon and seafood enchiladas.  The rolls were eh... The entrees were good enough but a bit pricey.  For dessert we shared an Intense chocolate cake and it was very nice.  I thought the service was very good...my water was never empty someone was always checking up on us.  This place was trying very hard to be upscale yet something is missing. They pour a nice Martini and my husband enjoyed his french Syrah.   I'm not sure we will be back....its a bit far for what you get.  But overall an A-OK meal.

    Review for the lunch

    Positives:
    - Probably the best tasting food you'll find in Uptown Whittier
    - Yucatan Skirt Steak was definitely delicious, and cooked perfectly.

    Negatives:
    - So/So waiter unresponsive and didn't refill our water
    - Overpriced with small portions

I'd give this place 4 stars for the food, but I think I was only amazed because it's about the only decent restaurant in Uptown Whittier. If I was to compare this to other places with the same upscale setting it would definitely fall short.

As soon as you walk into Seta you definitely do not feel like you're in Uptown Whittier anymore. The atmosphere is really mellow and the decor is beautiful. I really like that the lighting is dim and the music isn't obnoxiously loud, I think that attracts a more mature crowd but not boring at the same time.

My first experience here was during their lunch hour and they have a really reasonably priced lunch menu-not to mention that the food was AMAZING! My only complaint was that it was really busy and they could have used more staff because the wait was a tad bit long.

My second experience here was for an event that we had planned in advance so we worked with Lucy, who was extremely knowledgeable and nice during the whole process. My party had the back room/back bar area to ourselves and it was so nice!! Not only was the entire staff helpful and attentive to our needs but the food and drinks were so delicious. The grilled cheese bites are my fav :) The staff was very cooperative and let us move, add, or remove furniture to accommodate our guests. Overall, I would recommend Seta if you want to experience a little bit of an LA/Hollywood vibe in Uptown. The staff are very nice (not snooty or stuck up like other places can be at times around Uptown) Thank you Lucy and Gene for making our experience so enjoyable. I will definitely be back for endless mimosas on my next available Sunday!!!!

Pomposity elevated to new heights. Has the feel and look of a place that's trying way to hard in all the wrong ways. The neo-IKEA look of the furnishings and decor and the self-importance of servers who act as though they were working at some upscale steak house in Manhattan. Here's the problem - it's Whittier, get it? You've got to deal with a demographic that is a bizarre mix of knowledable foodies, middle age and older folks with disposable income, and the great unwashed who think everything tastes better with ranch. Service is pretty standard nothing about it sets it apart from a million other places. The food however is pretty decent and priced in my opinion pretty reasonably. Will I go back? ? I'll have to get over the grandiosity of the staff first.

no no no. Please don't come. It takes forever to get a glass of wine here and the food is mediocre.  I saw everyone was raving about the apple curry salad and getting it is just a huge disappointment. I can do better job mixing the salad! Because it's essentially a plate of candied walnut, sliced apple and lettuces, laid out at the different part of the plate : This is not a buffet!

I am amazed by this place!

A friend and I visited Seta for our quarterly get together and I have to say I am very happy with this place. The service is great (well it probably helped that we went in on a weekday and they weren't that busy).

Prawns a la Diabla - the shrimp was cooked perfectly and had a nice little kick to it, I almost wanted to lick my place

Almond Encrusted Corvina Seabass - yum, the almonds were beautifully crispy and the fish was just delicate and delicious.

All of this for only $22! Awesome!!!

And for an additional $4 we ordered the Intense Chocolate Cake (which was a bit too sweet for me but still good).

I will definitely be coming back to this beautiful little restaurant!

    Valentine's Dinner Menu ~ Delightful!
We are regulars at Seta and I must say that this Menu was the BEST we have had thus far!  I don't know why but it was so delicious!  I do know Why...Hugo Molina's culinary skills are worthy of his own reality show!  He is the Best and he knows how to masterfully create dishes that are more than pleasing to one's palate. At least mine! :)

DO NOT HAVE A PRIVATE FUNTION HERE EVER, UNLESS YOU PLAN TO BE OVERCHARGED! I had a bday party with 31 guests and we were WAY overcharged by the bar tab. IF YOU PAY BY CREDIT CARD...BEWARE! THEY WILL RAPE YOU. And if you point it out to them they will make excuses and will not adjust the bill. WE SPENT ABOUT $3000 FOR A PARTY OF 31 PEOPLE! Absolutely ridiculous! THE MANAGER/OWNER (CASEY) IS A PIECE OF WORK. We had an agreement to get  discounted bar prices since we were holding our event on a Sunday....he did not honor his agreement. We were also promised to have a private event in the main dining and bar area...we had 4 outside guests drinking at our party and charging thier drinks to our tab! WTH!  WE WILL NEVER GO BACK!

IF you decide to dine at Seta, make sure you look at your bill carefully because they are not an honest establishment. I wish I would have read all the reviews regarding thier practice of overcharging....it would have saved me a bad experience.

Go to Phlight or the Vintage Cafe...you will be much happier and the food is better.

I was pretty excited this place was participating in Dine LA because my husband and I have been wanting to try it out.  Unfortunately it was kind of a let down.  The restaurant looks nice and upscale, but through the dim lighting it was kind of easy to pick up that some things had become a little shabby looking and neglected.  My menu, for example, was falling apart at the seams.

We both decided to go with the menu selected for Dine LA along with the wine pairing.  I tried the prawns which were okay; they kind of seemed to be drowning in hot sauce and were oddly served with mashed potatoes (which seemed like a poor choice since both the entree options were also served with mash potatoes). My husband had the tortilla soup and enjoyed it.  For the main course I had the seabass, which was pretty good, and my husband had the short ribs which he really enjoyed.  The desserts were fine.  Both of us agreed the dishes seemed to lacking some in thought and planning.  The service was attentive but fell short of our expectations for a "fine dining establishment".  Our waiter kept trying to describe the dishes and wine, but just did not have the words for it ... kind of comical really; he seemed better suited for a chain restaurant than fine dining.

Finally, some of the other patrons were being obnoxiously noisy which definitely detracted from the overall experience.

I got to experience this restaurant because of 2013 LA Restaurant Week and I was there for their special $25 dinner menu around 8:30-9pm on Friday night. Overall experience was not good, but not too bad for the price we paid for. I was there with party of 4.

Following is my detailed description and you, the reader, can decide if it's good or not.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is their special $25 dinner menu for the LA Restaurant Week:
    (Everything is choice of two.)
    Appetizer:
    Soup Inspiration (Different everyday)
Prawns A La Diabla (Black Tiger Shrimp Glazed with Tamarindo-Chipolte)

    Main Course:
Almond Encrusted Corvina Seabass (Shrimp Mash Potato and Indian Spice Marsala Cream Sauce)
Famous Port Braised Boneless Short Ribs (White Polenta and Cabemet Reduction)

    Dessert:
Seasonal Berry Shortcake (Vanilla Cake with Fresh Barries and Whipped Cream)
Intense Chocolate (Bittersweet Chocolate Flourless Molten Cake, Blood Orange Reduction)

Add a Wine Pairing for all 3 courses for $12
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Upon entry, we liked the atmosphere and the live music. Not too loud which was good.
We had to wait about 15 minutes for seats, so we were directed to the bar section. I bought a Bombay Sapphire Gin and Tonic from the bar for $10 before tip and it was a bit disappointing. It tasted a bit watered down.

After seated, we were offered drinks and we all got water (tasted like tap water). We got a chance to take a look at their menu and see what other choices we can have besides their special menu. (Side note: I noticed that the two tables were uneven. They were almost 1" off on heights.)

Since we had party of 4, we ordered 2 each of everything from the special menu along with their $12 wine pairing. We also ordered "Sautéed Calamari (Spanish Chorizo, White Beans & Roasted Peppers)" from their regular menu. The waiter was friendly but seems nervous and with stiff movements. Maybe he is new?

After ordering, we were offer fresh-out-of-the-oven bread. The bread was delicious, BUT, the butter was stone cold from the refrigerator. Even with the hot bread (hot to the touch), cold butter took few minutes to melt.

    - Special menu appetizers were very good overall and Sautéed Calamari was excellent. However, Sautéed Calamari took too long to come out. It came out after we all finished the special menu appetizers. Maybe it was because the waiter might have forgotten to place the order on that (he came back 5-10 minutes later after we placed our orders to confirmed the calamari order.)
Their soup of the day was chicken based soup with exotic seasonings. (Sorry I don't quite remember what was in the soup besides the chicken pieces, but it was good.)
They paired both types of special appetizers with chilled white wine (the wine by itself was ok, I had better before) and the wine worked with all the appetizers.

    - As for the main course, seabass was ok overall. Short Ribs were excellent overall.
The flavor for seabass was good, but it has small fish bones and a bit overcooked. They paired with the same appetizer white wine with the seabass and it worked.
They used Syrah to pair with Short Ribs and it didn't pair well, so we asked to exchange for a different red wine instead. They exchanged the red wine for free.

    - Desserts by itself were excellent overall, with the not so good wine pairing.
They ran out of Seasonal Berry Shortcake and substituted with Apple Tart. I believe it was their "Caramel Three Ways (Apple Tart, Dulce De Leche Panacotta, Caramel Praline)" from the regular menu.
They paired both types of dessert with this strange fruit based (more strong on berries flavor) liquor (none of us think it was wine and we forgot to ask what it was.)
The dessert drink/wine paired well with Intense Chocolate. However, they completely failed to substitute a different dessert drink/wine for the Apple Tart/Caramel Three Ways. The two did not go together at all. We got very disappointed and didn't ask for a different one. The two Apple Tart eater end up poured their drinks into the other two Intense Chocolate's glass.

Overall, the 4 of us had a pleasant night. Might be better without the bad points, but could be worst.

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews! I was referred to this spot by my hairdresser. She said the food was really super good and that they have unlimited champagne for a flat rate of $12.

Husband and I went in for brunch yesterday. The restaurant itself was nice - It was clean, well put together and the big picture window is fun for people watching. We were greeted by the owner/manager (not sure what his title was) and he quickly sat us. He recommended the Chilaquiles. We gazed over the menu and I spotted a yummy sounding breakfast sandwich that came with an over medium egg, tomato, jack cheese and bacon. Husband went a head and had the Chilaquiles. We both had champagne.

The food was AMAZING! My sandwich was so HUGE! The bacon was cooked perfectly, the egg held together, the bread was so crispy and flaky and the tomato didn't turn to mush after I bit into it. Husband said the chilaquiles were VERY, VERY good! Our server, Ish, kept the champagne flowing and paid very special attention to us. He was so nice, attentive and professional. The total bill came out to $52.00 not including tip, which was great since we sat and drank for a while.

    I will definitely be back.

    5 STARS ACROSS THE BOARD!!!!

I agree with one other previous Yelp review that this place is swanky. Its a nice place to eat during the day but at night it gets crazy fun. I always hear music coming from here and I see people dancing the night away here. Its a cool place to check out for a night life in Uptown Whittier. Its got very nice food as I've had a few dates here. Check it out if you're in Whittier.

Came here for the first time today and let me tell you, I should've come to dine here sooner because it was excellent!

We dropped in for lunch and the food was just perfect.  I haven't enjoyed food like this in a while and I am glad that there is a place like Seta close by instead of having to drive out to Pasadena, Newport, or L.A. for fine dining.

    Well done!

Came for my friend's birthday on Saturday. The place is kind of small, yet somehow they managed to fit a cool little lounge, a small dance area/bar, some tiny ass room with windows all around (who knows what that's used for) and a clean bathroom with a cool sinks and even cooler faucets.

The food pretty good, my son and I had a house burger served with fries, a bit pricey, $15 bucks, but pretty good. My gf had pasta with peppers and sausage which was pretty tasty.

The service was great. The server was very nice and attentive, yet not overbearing nor intrusive. Oh and there was a girl who kept refilling everyone's water glass like a champ.
There was some sort of problem with what the place had offered my friend for having her birthday there and what she actually got, so that kind of put a little damper on the occasion, but all in all a good experience.

Have nothing negative to say about this place. Food was very well-seasoned and the perfect portion. (I was expecting tiny portions prejudging by the price and loungey feel of this place.) Service was terrific. Ambience was elegant but still warm and inviting. It had an open floor plan, and one of the rooms was open to the outside air although we didn't sit there.

Prices were a bit high, but they had a summer weeknight special that was a steal. $15 for a 2 course dinner - the same price as most crappy chain restaurants for amazing quality and environment. The waitress said they will most likely have a similar Fall special. I'll update with it if I find out.

Pretty cool lounge, when the restaurant closes. Flashbacks to the 90's.. not just the music in the smaller room but the people. "Didn't I party with you 20 years ago?" Yup.. the old party people are still at here. It's mostly a Latino older crowd but the age range varies.

    Pros
    - Free entrance
    - Great music.. DJ playing club music from the 90's
    - Different music in the 2nd room
    - 2 Bars.. I think
    - Decent beer on tap

So if you're in the mood for Debbie Deb or Stevie B... check this place out.

This place rocks. Finally a hip restaurant on the Eastside. The food rocks. Went for dinner with friends. The chef came forward, introduced himself and sent us two of his special appetizers. Highly recommend the 'Seta Roll'. I had the boneless chicken, while my partner had the Halibut, both of which were excellent. We split an Apple pie, praline and ice-cream. The wine selection was very good too. The ambience and service was excellent too.
My only other recommendation would be to finish diiner and be out of there by 9 PM after which it converts into a night club and gets very noisy and crowded.
I will definitely go there for lunch or Sunday brunch next.

Came here on Sunday for brunch with my mom. We initially were going to have the brunch, but decided to order off the menu instead. I ordered the Caesar 8-
Whole Leaves of Romaine Hearts, Caesar Dressing, Parmesan Panacotta and Garlic Points to start.
My entree was Boneless Short Ribs 17-
Port Braised served with White Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Cabernet Reduction. It was served with a side of perfectly cooked carrots and bok choy.

My mom ordered the Seta Basic 7-
Young Greens with Whole-Grain Mustard Vinaigrette and Parmigiano Reggiano as a starter and the Cedar Plank Salmon 15-
Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Lemon- Caper Berry Sauce Topped with Crab Relish for her main course.

Everything was DELICIOUS!!! Flavorful & cooked perfectly. Both sauces complimented the dishes. I also really enjoyed the tropical iced tea.

This is my second time here and so far they have not failed me. The server was very accommodating & friendly. I will definitely be back.

If the OWNERS READ THIS- here was my experience:

New years eve fun. Went again fun.

Until my fiance got his bill (credit card) he was charged extra-
Then days later his cousin got his bill was also charged extra- WTF?

That is after we got "bottle service" in whittier. lol and ate and had a tab for beers. Really? That is even after my fiance left a extra trip despite the 18% gradutiy charge- We always tip good and his family loves upscale/nice spots. we all do.

They said they would never come here again for the simple fact the waitress decided to charge each of them mroe then what they put down. I was hoping to come again and try the brunch and do another bottle service but apparently none of them will go again.

Food was good- Pricy for what it is. I think they need to remember we are in Whittier- bottle room in whittier on greenleaf has amazing food and votes and all that and there prices are less. Wanted to try the brunch.

I met a few people there (besides the waitresses) that were nice.
Place is small and gets packed. If you are looking to get away from the "Sage" scene I would go here- but lets admit sage is known for certain people and lack of.

I would watch it if you were using your credit card-

Took a group to Seta last Tuesday night for a business dinner. Contacted the chef- owner in advance and asked, if he could set up a special menu for the group. A small list of entrees that we could choose from and some great starters and desserts. The meal service and personal attention given to our group was nothing short of fantastic. Starting with excellent and creative cocktails moving on to delicious appetizers Savory Shrimp en croute  followed by excellent Foie gras, then a salad of crisp fresh greens with roasted beets and creamy chevre. The entree choices were a beef, chicken or Fish entree, each prepared in a creative and deliciously different manner, influenced by various areas of the world's cuisines - all wonderful. The grand finale was a platter of fresh house-made deserts, one more beautiful and delectable than the next.

Our reservation was honored in a timely manner even though some members of our group were late to arrive.

The bar service was prompt, friendly and professional.

The Service at the table was casual but efficient and almost too prompt and informative

The wine list had a good selection of well thought-out wine in most price ranges!

Overall, a wonderful experience for everyone in our group. Some of whom are very hard to please.

I celebrated my birthday here back in November 2010. My friends and I loved it. It has that trendy New Yorkish ambient. The food is pricey but delicious. Drinks are reasonably  priced. The second time, I also had a great.. Now here comes the ugly part.. I celebrated birthday again in Whittier, after having a drink at Vinatero we proceeded to continue the celebration at Seta. The place was packed. That New Yorkish ambient I was talking about, no longer there. Looks like they attracted all Sage crowd. GHETTO!! Bunch of hood rats!!!
I'm very disappointed. Seta was the best restaurant in Whittier....
My suggestion to the owners is to keep it classy.

Came here this Saturday for a friend of a friends bday.
I guess this place is a restaurant during the day, and club/lounge at night.

Two rooms, well actually two, and one lounge area.  Two bars. Crowd, i must say was 25 and up, so  a lil older crowd.  Music was good. They had to DJ's. Free to get in.  Semi strict with the dress code.  No tennis shoes, must be wearing dress shoes for the guys.
Only thing i didnt like, was late into the night, the place got pretty packed, and the two bars were slow to serve.

    Otherwise, pretty cool joint.

    Where do I begin??
IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO CELEBRATE A PRIVATE EVENT WITH A LARGE GROUP DO NOT GO TO SETA!

**ACTUALLY, I WOULDN'T GO BACK PERIOD! There are plenty of negative reviews on Foursquare and Yelp and Word of mouth!

First of all, we show up at 6:30pm on a Saturday night and try to take advantage of Happy Hour. The bartender clearly knows this. 2 of the 3 cocktails we ordered were not HH specials. He doesn't mention this until the drinks are made and he's billed us. STRIKE ONE!

Our party arrives and we are ready to be seated for our 7pm reservation. However the hostess disappears!!! We wait 15 minutes... still no hostess. We had to flag down a waiter to seat us.. who then had to check with his manager.. and then they had to set our table we thought was already ready!! Sat down closer to 7:30. FRUSTRATING! STRIKE TWO!

Clearly there is no children's menu. I order sliders and fries off the appetizer bar menu.. which should be $4 each for Happy Hour. However they are ONLY $4 if you eat them at the bar area which is 5 steps away. I get billed a total of $13 for both items.. Ridiculous. The food is clearly nowhere near enough to satisfy the appetite of a 9 and 11 year old. So we order the gourmet SETA Burger and ask for it to be served plain. Still are billed for the full price of the burger..$13 Ok I guess. They should have discounted the apps since they cannot accommodate a children's menu. STRIKE THREE! Should have just left then! But we were there for a birthday dinner party...

The waitress had to be told 3 times to open a wine bottle we brought. $20 corkage fee by the way.

Dinner ends. We have a party of about 20. When reservations were made, we made it clear to the general manager that we planned to stay for the lounge/DJ afterwards. The General Mgr stated we could remain in our seats that we had for dinner for the remainder of the night. More friends were supposed to join us after dinner so this was great!

Suddenly, they start clearing the tables and chairs and a group of guys huddles near us.. The OWNER comes over and informs us we need to move. Our area has been reserved and is a "thousand dollar" area. We had just spent about $600 on dinner PLUS we were going to stay for the club and spend MORE $$$! We told him we had made arrangements with the general manager, he said he was sorry for the inconvenience and basically kicked us out and left us standing! Didn't comp any drinks for the inconvenience. Just took our money and RAN! WHAT SHADY owner does that?! Where is the customer service aspect of his establishment?

Once the club starts up, it is standing room only. Crowds of people are standing in the middle of what is supposed to be a dance floor. Nowhere to dance, nowhere to sit, nowhere to put your drink down.
The "private" patio area that one can reserve for "private" parties.. IS NOT PRIVATE! There was another group there ANGRY that once the club started.. everyone was walking into their area...This place sucks ROYALLY!  I WILL NEVER WASTE MY TIME AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN!

Try PHLIGHT or SAGE instead. I would rate this a ZERO if I had the option....

Me: My drink is really watered down can i get something else
Bartender: Really, you saw me make it man. There's a lot of alcohol in there.

Me: Yeah but its really watery for some reason. Can I just get a new drink?
Bartender: Well I mean you saw me make it, right?

Me: I did I guess but I'm telling you it's really watered down.
Bartender: If I make you another one its still going to taste the same.

Me: (turns to my friend) Did that REALLY just happen? Lets go...

    --

Bad news is that I got a shitty drink and was treated to horrible customer service.  Good news is that we left Seta and ended up dancing the night away at Mountain Bar.  So overall it was a great night and maybe I should be saying thank you right?

I am surprised with the low reviews.  This place is so underrated!!

My review is long overdue but I still remember the taste of my delicious lunch paella.  Our group of about 15 people took over the dining area.  I liked the cute lounge setup behind the dining room.

Ordered: Pear Salad, Paella and Intense Chocolate.
Pear Salad: Fresh salad with big chunks of sweet pears and refreshing dressing.  I wish the pears were not too soft because I liked crunchy pears better.  4 stars!!
Paella: Saffron rice, sausage, chicken, clams and shrimp.  I am no paella expert but I really enjoyed this dish.  Plump giant shrimps, tasty chicken combined with delicious rice.  The rice...oh the rice...I can eat the rice just like that without any meats.  Did I mention the rice was delicioso?  Best paella I've had so far.  5 stars!!
Intense Chocolate: bittersweet flourless molten cake, grand marnier blood orange reduction.  Not my favorite of the meals but it's still good.  My friends loved the dessert more than I did.

Some of my friends got Caramel Three Ways (Apple Tart, Dulche DeLeche Panacotta, Caramel Praline) and they all loved the desserts. Many of them also enjoyed Caesar Salad and Hanger Steak.

This place has $8 recession proof lunch.  $8 lunch @ a sit down restaurant? That's good value!!  They also offer Rio Hondo students 10% off discount excluding alcohol and promotional items.  Seta also has cocktail hours and Sunday Brunch.  I heard they had a cooking class too.  Hmmm maybe I can learn to cook paella from the chef ;)

    4 solid stars!!

    Seta's paella is yummylicious!!
