Being in close proximity to Shakespeares, I naturally frequented it from time to time. Â The food was usually quite average to poor (boy, do they know how to cook the life out of a burger), but a couple items were pretty good, namely the Ultimate Grilled Cheese, Buffalo Burger, and Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad.
However, beware unsuspecting diner, the already convoluted prices for average food have ballooned to even greater magnitudes. Â What was a $7.75 Chicken Caesar Salad is now $9, and the Buffalo Burger has blossomed from $8 to $11.50 (if I remember correctly--to add insult to injury their newly priced menu isn't even on their website yet). Â These represent 20 or more % increase is price. Â Did logic just go out the window, or have we seen a sudden spike in food prices to this extent?
Also be aware that, if you sit at the bar, DO NOT expect good service. Â Unless you are a personal friend of the bartender, they hardly look at you. Â Seeing as how the primary function of a good bartender (if he wants to make money) is to constantly scan the bar for empty glasses, this makes no sense to me at all.
For my part, I don't plan to go to this establishment much in the future.
Happened to be in the neighborhood during lunchtime and decided to try Shakespeare's out. I'm really glad I did! The food, service and atmosphere were all really great! Probably the food and service more so than the atmosphere (severe lack of natural light) but all in all, a great spot! It was certainly a clean pub and they were even offering a seasonal treat as a special...fried green tomatoes!
I had a burger with fries, added bleu cheese with all of the regular toppings. If they don't make their own beef patties here, they've got me fooled. Great flavor, and the fries were SO good! I really liked this place and I would definitely come here again.
The thing that makes me like the place is that they had corndogs the night we went. And they hit the spot, even after we had eaten dinner earlier that night.
The beer was pretty cheap too, $7.50 for a pitcher of beer, pretty good deal there. On fridays its $6 for a pitcher.
And the pool table doesn't require you to come in with a pocket full of quarters, you can use dollarbills on it. A major plus for the table.
My only complaint about the place is the ladies room has only 1 toilet, I think that a bar should have more than 1, considering how fast beer can go through you.
With it being walking distance from my house I think when it gets warmer I'll be taking many trips there.
