Do not be deceived by the fact that the phrase "bar & grill" is included in the name of this place. It's a nightclub. At a mall. And that's just wrong!
I'm really not trying to see gangs of girls in skin tight dresses & stilettos while I'm running into Macy's to find some slacks for work.
Other than the illogical location, the place IS nice but again...it's IN A MALL!
On a Thursday Night! If you are looking for an urban upscale bar. This is it! The DJ is great and the drinks are great as well too! Make sure to get there before10 because there is a crowd. They have a VIP area upstairs and they kitchen is open pretty late. I ordered the hamburger with bacon and sides. Super good!!!! Â I will be returning here for a Thursday night. Free admission as long as your name is on the guest list and you get there before 11. Also free parking!
Review Source:Not what I thought it would be. Â A club attached to a mall is kind of a weird concept. Â They could at least block the windows in the grill that view the mall at night so that you don't think that you're at the mall. Â Staff was friendly, but the whole experience was kind of awkward. Â I did like the music that they were playing at the beginning, and they make a good vodka soda. Â Probably won't be back though-it's really not my scene.
Review Source:The radio commercials are what initially captured my attention. I decided to give it a try for my 22nd birthday celebration. I called to make reservations and was give the phone number of an "event coordinator" who I had to dial numerous times after no answer.
I don't even know where to begin with my experience, but I can say I will not be returning. The space is very small. I ordered one of their salads. I order different kinds of salads when I eat out all the time. This salad I just had to send back. Although they have very nice presentations of their dishes the taste is just not there. Â The only dish my party seemed satisfied by was the burger. I must say that our waiter was very kind. Overall, this was not how I anticipated my birthday celebration would go. We left the Shark bar & proceeded to another location.
I am absolutely disgusted!! Upon receiving a chicken strip kid meal for my child- the chicken was COMPLETELY uncooked/RAW on the inside!! The manager didn't even seem to care much. We told him we weren't going to eat there because of the chicken. The manager said ok I understand, but he didn't offer anything for our future return. This was our first and LAST time to visit Shark Bar & Grill! On top of all that the waitress tried to make a pass at my husband! Unacceptable!!
Review Source:At first glance it seems odd that it would be attached to a mall. Â Unconventional to say the least but it was worth a try. Â I went for a birthday celebration for my friend and once we walked in, the space seemed underwhelming. Â Maybe it was a bit too early for all out dancing and drinking (we arrived at 9pm on a friday night). Â The space seemed limited as well. Â We opted for the "VIP" section upstairs and there's a bottle service that's required for entry plus gratuity.
Since we were a decent sized group, doing VIP seemed like a better option. Â Once we got upstairs, we realized the space was extremely small. Â We were literally sitting on top of each other. Â Note to self: make a reservation for a slightly larger VIP space. Â The service was awesome, our waitress was on time, she kept our drinks refilled, and she stayed close enough so that it didn't seem as if she was not attentive.
The best part of this evening was the chicken wings. Â The lemon pepper wings were awesome. Â They go fast so if you arrive after midnight expecting to get chicken, Â Forgetaboutit. Â
The one downside to my whole experience, which is why I did not give it 5 stars is that I used the ATM machine and my account is now showing I withdrew more than I actually did. Â When I use an ATM at an establishment, I don't expect it to take out more money than I really withdrew. Â That'll be resolved soon but a note of caution: Â Bring your own cash and don't use the ATM! Â Other than that, I had a fab time and the service was great. Â We will certainly be spending more time at the Shark Bar.
A bit of a background for this review because it could very well be bumped up to the coveted and elusive "five-star review" that only the primo places receive from people who are refined enough to not use the word "primo," let alone use it in the opening sentence of a review: we ended up here on accident on a Thursday night for dinner, and dinner only. I say that because there's a club in the back room that gets hopping on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Being that our group had put in a full day of work and had another full day of work waiting for us the next morning, we got our dinner and drinks and never set foot into the (admittedly energetic sounding) club back in the corner of the place. So I'm capping myself at four stars because I didn't get the "full" experience here but have little doubt I could bump this up if I put in a repeat appearance.
So let's focus on what we know: this place recently opened in the corner of Willow Bend's food court. And it clearly does not belong with the rest of the places there since a place selling cupcakes and Sonic don't exactly scream "Let's hit the club tonight, guys." I know, I know: the location has to be great for "mall traffic" and the "curious shoppers" (such as our group) but I can't help but think this place would really take off outside the "mall" environment. And certainly away from the vacuous degradation that is The Shops at Legacy and the zombies that flock there. But it's here and we have to make do with what we've got which is a pretty slick place to grab a bite to eat.
You walk into a calming atmosphere of blues and moody lighting. But it's the good kind of "moody" and not the kind of lighting that makes you think someone is going to stab you before the appetizer arrives. It's kind of hard to explain, kind of like how there are so many seats in the main dining room yet the overall place feels empty. It's kind of weird but who cares when there is an expansive patio to patrol and beer to drink?
We walked in from the mall area and sat ourselves before our waitress came right over to take our drink order. We would have sat at the bar save for the fact that the majority of its seats were taken and the bar is about the size of a large SUV. You either get to the bar early or you be prepared to get cozy with your fellow bar patrons because there's not a lot of room there.
Anyway, in seconds we had our beers and were looking at a simple (read: small) menu. What you see (or "sea") is what you get but at least it's really good. A table nearby was chomping down on some spinach and artichoke dip as if it were going out of style (yeah, right) and tables all around us were enjoying their drinks. There was even a table of a family of four, so it's not like this place caters exclusively to the drinkers or the people who want to flirt shamelessly with the bartender who was quite adept at shooting down people who realistically had no chance. It was pretty awesome.
The grilled tuna sandwich met with approval, as did my burger with a more than generous helping of fried jalapenos. There was also a sales pitch for some fried donut dessert things that I gladly would have sprung for if my stomach was not waging war with fried jalapenos and Heinekens. They at least sound like a good reason to come back.
And our girl was spot on in paying attention: a group of us guys decided we should take a "tacky" picture with the resident mall Santa Claus and post it to Facebook because we are all in dire need of attention. To make a long story short, the guy in charge of the photo left it on the table after we left and when we returned almost an hour later, the photo and the bag it was in found safety behind the counter where we could reclaim it. Good thing, too, since I don't think any of us were about to wait in line for another "tacky" picture with a Santa who was clearly tired of us and our shenanigans.
Oh, also, we did shots for posterity because of course we did. And the bartender was quick on the delivery and the service, probably because we were belonging to the 1/3 of the bar patrons who were still capable of speaking in complete sentences at that point.
Again, you really have to take this review with the caveat that I was only there for dinner and did not see the back half of the place. But judging from some other reviews and from the Web site of the place, the club life is pretty happening. Sure, it's beyond counter-intuitive to go to a mall for your "clubbing" fix but what have you got to lose? Willow Bend needs a shot of life to get itself reenergized and this place might be the catalyst needed.
Meh...I can see this evolving to be a hip-hop/R&B/Jazz club. Which is not a bad thing but I don't think it will last in Plano. Wouldn't really call it a "club" in a full sense of the word as far as I am concerned. But just my opinion, its given for free so take it for what its worth. I don't think this type of venue is for Plano. Loft610 tried this concept, to be continued by Social 121 and now Shark Bar along with Blue Martini. The later being corporate will probably have a bit more lasting power. Will see what happens in the long run. Been here on a Friday and Monday nights for MNF and folks are not necessarily lining up outside the door to get into this place.
Have good screens to watch the games. Food is OK.
