While I try to lower my expectations when in Reno, I have a preconceived notion of what an English pub experience should consist of. Shenanigans hits about half of these expectations: interior and the beer are solid; all else is sub-standard including the food.
The location in a strip mall is definitely off-putting; however, once inside you are able to settle in and forget about the exterior. Beer selection was good and I liked their little steins. The food, though, was pretty awful. We stuck to basics for apps... kept it simple. The chicken wings were tough - hard, actually - with a mediocre sauce. The potato skins bland, overcooked and lame. The onion rings were also a bit overbooked but were the best app we had.
I'm locking in at 2-stars since we went there really to grab a pub bite; however, if I was just in the mood for just a beer... I would have given it 3.
Don't let the name fool you. I was kinda wary of a place called Shenanigan's. It makes me think of a dive bar with scantily clad women servers. Well, that's not this place. It's very much a pub vibe. It was a nice and quiet the night I went. It was a great place to meet a friend and be able to hear each other without shouting. I thought the beer selection was good but I'm not exactly a beer expert. They had some NW beers so I was happy. They also have a sizeable food menu. I got to try the grilled cheese and it was good. The cheese was melted and the bread toasted just like a grilled cheese should be. I would get beers here again.
Review Source:I went to this pub while on a family trip to Reno and I was in desperate need of a nonsmoking bar to watch a USA soccer game.  When I called the bartender was very gracious regarding my request to find the channel the game would be on and promised to show it when I arrived later that day.  Bear in mind this was not a "soccer bar", but no matter, they were happy to accommodate my request.  I am not able to drink alcohol, but was given no attitude by the staff at all(usually bars frown on the sober)...she happily served me sparkling water and very decent $4 chicken wings.  The staff had a very welcoming attitude and glowing smiles. My  server was excellent and kept me happy the entire stay. It doesn't hurt that my team won, but I would still rate the same.  I was called a cab by the bartender as well to get me to a family dinner on time.  I'd highly recommend to anyone popping in the Reno area for happy hour or just to get a cold one.  Seems to be a locals hangout, but they are more than open to visitors.
Review Source:Been coming here for a while now. I decided to give this place a shot after several Yelpers commented on the appetizer specials during happy hour. Â I average about 1 visit per month...probably more during the upcoming football season.
5 stars for the food. Is it the best? Nope. BUT, for 3 bucks at happy hour (3-6pm) its a steal. Big portions. Forget the beef nachos, get chicken. The beef are alright, but its a shredded type of beef, similar to a roast. I would prefer a more drier cut of beef but whatever they are good.
The wings...GOOD especially for the price. Forget the nitro wings...way too vinegary. I think all the nitro is, is a jarred chile paste. Also, too hot. Yes...too hot I say. It can be distracting from the beer, and itll make you sweat.
I also tried the sweet and spicy...much better than the nitro.
Beer....pretty good. A decent selection. Any bar that serves any Stone brew will be salvaged from the lake of fire when the end of days comes.
Best time to hit this place up is happy hour during the week. The crowd is lax, and the bartenders are nice. Â Plenty of tv's to get your sports on, but will they show my team during the season?
Pints run about 6 bucks ( talking about real beer here) and the size varies based on alcohol content...thats expected. I have no idea how much the pussy beer goes for here (bud, coors, blah blah)
I think I average just under 20 bucks when I visit which is usually two good beers with two monster appetizers and I feel content when I leave. Â
Recommended.
I've got to thank Yelp for guiding my girlfriend and I to this gem while in Reno for a single night. We had some time to kill and made our way to a highly rated english pub for a brew and a bite. To our surprise, Shenanigan's is in the parking lot of a Savemart, which was rather unassuming. Upon entering, we found a beautifully laid out bar with a friendly staff of nice young ladies. We enjoyed a couple beers and had a lovely conversation with some of the staff. The Cajun Chicken fingers were a delightful treat and held us over perfect. Great time, go support this business! They were surprised to see non-locals come in.
Review Source:Stopped into Shenanigans today for lunch (it's only about a block away from my office) and ordered the Fish & Chips. The place was fairly quiet as there were only two patrons at the bar, so it was a pretty quick process from ordering to receiving my food. The fish was good, not great, but it did the trick (especially with the Malt Vinegar!). The fries (or "chips") were delicious and about as good as you're going to get in Reno. My order also came with coleslaw--note to Shenanigans: Get a new recipe STAT! It was the most bland, awful-tasting slaw I think I've ever had. And that's coming from a person who does not consider herself to be picky in the least bit! All in all, it was a decent lunch experience. I'd go back, but probably would order something else.
Review Source:This place had a great energy, fun bar, but fell far short on food and service. Â There was only one server for about 9 tables, and while she wasn't rude, she wasn't very attentive. Â The food was merely average. Â I ordered the chili burger, medium well, it came out charred as a boot. Â The chili, I think, was good, but they didn't give me more than a couple of teaspoons of it on my chili burger. Â Fries were standard battered frozen variety. Â I wanted to like it, but the food just didn't do it for me.
Review Source:Happy Hour 7 Days a week. 4pm-6pm, 3 dollar huge portioned appetizers, cheap beers, cheap house wines and well drinks. Â
Tons of beers on tap and friendly eye candy.
Walk away a happy man with your wallet still intact.
Appetizers to get from my most favorite; Chicken tenders w/ honey mustard, pot stickers, potato skins, chicken wings- nitro, the most spicy sauce.
My new HH spot when I hit up Reno. One I would surely go outta the way for.
I totally dig this place. The bf and I went around 1 today for lunch. I suggested the place because of the other good reviews and 30 beers on tap? Yes please. Not only are there a plethora of available beers, there are awesome beers (i.e. almost anything NOT called Bud or Coors). Despite the awesome beer selection I chose a Strongbow and the boyfriend chose the Framboise.
The food was great, albeit not exactly British. I really wished they had a cheese and tomato sandwich on the menu, but no. Regardless of the fact that most menu items were quite American, the food was tasty, hot and reasonably priced.
I loved the decor and there was a decent crowd on a Saturday afternoon, though not crowded. The waitress was nice and left us time to decide and to eat without being totally absent. Otherwise, great service.
The amazing beer and spirits served at Shenanigans alone is enough to try the place out. Add to that great food and you have a great, new place that isn't Chili's! Total win!
My brother and I went here for lunch a couple weeks ago. I have to say, it was amazing! The owners are the same owners as Silver Peak, so needless to say the food must be good. I had the quesadilla and it was the best one I've ever had. I know that sounds weird, because a quesadilla is a pretty basic meal, but I'm not kidding. It was delicious! They also have a great beer selection if you are a beer drinker. I highly recommend checking this place out. Great food and great drinks!
Review Source:This is my favorite bar fare destination. The drinks are great too, had my first vodka Presbyterian here.
Here are my go-to's when I'm hungry:
1) The Hombre sandwich, perfect amount of hot sauce on the chicken. I'm one to dip fries in hot wing sauce, this is the best sandwich to get my hot-sauce-fix!
2) the Nachos, fresh jalepeños make this one for me.
3) Cobb salad, not too much dressing, the right amount of "kitchen sink" of stuff, and if that's not enough, you can add blackened chicken which even adds more dimension & protein ;)
4) Pot Stickers, boiled & cooked to perfection. I could eat 10, but only six comes on the plate. I really like how different the dipping sauces are to appease my palate.
As for the personalities behind the bar, there's pleasantries, kindness, but no one is going to put up with anyone's sh**. It's a pub; there's the riff-raff, of course. But mostly, it's low-key, good brews, good food, consistently there for your belly and any sports fetish you may have.
First of all I love the name of the bar, you couldn't  have a better name. This bar has over 30 beers on tap and their all micro-brew or international, except one. One of the bartenders name Tony is really nice, knowledgeable on the beers and interacts with the customers. The food is really freaking good, you will be very pleased on whatever you get plus during happy hour the appetizers are $3.
Review Source:Shenanigans is truly a great pub. Walked in before 6pm so it was still Happy Hour! All appetizers $3! Nachos were great, and they use fresh jalapeños which is so much better than the jar stuff. Also got the potato skins, they were great! Very fresh! Their fish n chips were delicious! The fries were nice and crispy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside! My fiance got the club sandwich and he loved it. Food portions are huge here so come with an appetite. But be sure you save room for their great variety of beers on tap. Ranging from local brews to imported German, Belgian and Irish beers. The bartender there was very helpful and very friendly! A few patrons were there too and the whole place just screams friendly atmosphere and feels very homey. Will definitely be coming back!
Review Source:I've lived close to hear for going on 6 years and for whatever reason i've never spent much time here until recently. If im going to have drinks with friends i like something low key, reasonable prices and good service. Shenanigans has all of the above and solid food. I'd say its some of the best bar food in town. It's an irish pub so they have lots of awesome european beers on draught. All of their salads are really good and fresh, sandwiches are good and one of my favorites are their sliders, you get a choice of turkey or roast beef and their served with cheese, onions and mushroons with au juis on the side. YUM! Servers and bartenders are all attentive and its a good laid back local crowd.
Review Source:Amazing what you can do with a strip mall location. Â Really great looking pressed-tin ceiling, ornate dark wood bar and nice feel. We're happy wherever we can get Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, but they also had a lot of other great beers available. Â Our server was named Kristine and she could not have been more gracious and efficient. Â Â Good pub food that's very inexpensive. Â Diverse clientele with married couples(like us), young folks sitting out front in the smoking area, and locals gathered 'round the bar. Â Happy to have found it thanks to other Yelpers.
Review Source:Everyone should have a Shenanigan's, and I suppose I'll share. Â It's "my" neighborhood go-to pub, with an amazing selection of great beers (Anchor Steam, Alaskan Amber, Dogfish Head 90 min IPA(!) and Hoegaarden just to name a few). Â Great "bar food" too--burgers, sandwiches, nachos (with FRESH jalapenos!), fried appetizers, etc. Â They also have a pretty decent, basic breakfast menu. Â The staff is friendly, attentive and capable, which is all you can really ask for (except one particular occasion on which someone who works elsewhere normally was covering a shift and was totally unprepared... Â Couldn't get the World Cup match that we'd come to watch to play on the TVs with audio, etc,, but hey, it happens--she was still nice, and brought us food).
Review Source:I thought I'd write a review of Shenanigan's from Shenanigan's... I guess today is Christine's birthday apparently, she is a waitress here and so we all had to join in and sing and eat cake- bonus! Â We usually come in at least once a month because the drinks are great - excellent selection of both Belgian beers (my favorite) and the most Rogue I have seen this side of Oregon. Â Plus, there are really cool people here, including the owner and waitresses. Â Good place to go to get away from the sports bar crowd.... good food, good environment... Â Worth checking out .
Review Source:The visit here after a long day of seeing what Reno had to offer with OOTTTPIL (Apple Store! Â In N Out! Â Banana Republic!) was bittersweet to say the least. Â I was dragging my feet on going home (and I realize how blatantly obvious I was about it), but the suggestion to come here was welcome, and some great conversations ensued. Â To be perfectly honest, I may have gone here in the past, but for the life of me can't remember if that's true.
As each of us had been less than thrilled with the aforementioned Domino's Pizza, we ordered our respecting soothing food- the largest bowl of chili EVER for him, and potato skins for me (mmmm, bacon!). Â I wasn't in the drinking mood, but they had some great beers on tap from what I could see. Â And they had Three Olives Root Beer vodka. Â No, I am not kidding.
It's a great place to grab some pub food, win a little money ($4- if you count the day before), and hang out without having smoke blown in your face. Â Enough t.v.s to watch some games without being intrusive, and fantastic staff.
Ahhh, Reno. Â How you surprise me.
