This place has gotten SOO much better after they've remodeled the place. Â Now they have a room with a pool table, nice bar with plenty of indoor seating considering the size of the place. Â The great thing is that this bar is right on the river, and it's nice to sit outside and just enjoy the outside along the river with an alcoholic beverage.
Review Source:If you like sierra nevada beer than you'll probably like their taphouse. If not then you might want to look elsewhere. The outside area is neat if it's not too cold out.
It's kind of hard to find. You have to go down through this coffee shop or go around back.
Also the bar food isn't good so eat first then go there and drink after.
I'd give them no stars if I could.
We went in to grab a few drinks before dinner and left empty handed. The half drugged out looking bartender let us stand at the bar for over 5 minutes while he was doing busywork wiping glasses and the bar without ever acknowledging or helping us. The place was far from busy, he never once even poured anyone a drink while we were there. We got frustrated and left.
Looks like I'll add this one to my list of places I will never go back to. It sucks because the place is in a great location.
Good Evening, folks, and welcome to Mike's (the MC) 49th edition of "Let's Ask a Bunch of Questions Jaime Doesn't Know", otherwise known as Trivia Night.
Fun game, fun prizes, great beers on tap, and friendly bartenders. Bring a group and think of a really offensive name. Hungry? Peruse the menu for Java Jungle. Much, much better than the SF Trivia Nights I've been to - you feel welcome, and look at that - you are!
4 stars for having a tab open when you win the week before.
The taps here are all different varieties of Sierra Nevada beers! Â Need I say more? Â I believe they were charging $4.50 a pint, but I was playing video poker and the beers were comped over to me for gambling. Â Right on the Riverwalk in a nice place, quick friendly service - and I believe they sell food too, even though that's not why we stopped there. If you like Sierra Nevada microbrewed beers this is definitely YOUR PLACE!
Review Source:This is our go-to bar when downtown. Â Bartenders are really friendly, attentive and down to earth. Â Really tall blonde guy is hilarious and one of the best bartenders downtown in my opinion. Â If you can get a spot outside on a warm day with a cold Sierra Nevada beer I am sure you will join me as a fan of this joint.
Review Source:As a college student, I simply can't pass up the opportunity for good food at a great price! Â The atmosphere at Taphouse is pretty much like a pub with bar and table seating. Â They also have an awesome view of the river, eating outside in the summer is amazing, I'm sure. Â To order you have to go to the bar so there aren't really waiters per say. Â I ordered a drink and asked for a menu; the order form came with the menu.
I ordered one of their hot sandwiches which come with a choice of three different meat and cheese choices along with veggies like tomato, red bell pepper, onion, mixed greens, and olives. Â All sandwiches also come with chips and hummus (which you either love or you hate... fortunately I love Hummus!). Â I picked the hot turkey and Swiss with greens, red bell pepper, and mayo. Â My dining buddy got the grilled spicy tuna sandwich with tomato and mixed greens. Â After making our selection and marking it on the order paper I gave it to the bartender. Â Our order was out really quick, no complaints about the speed here!
My sandwich was really delicious and the Swiss cheese was perfectly melted! Â The hummus was really the star of the show, it was really spiced perfectly! Â Tuna is always a risky choice, sometimes you just never know what you're going to get! Â This time it paid off, actually it's the best tuna I've had in a long time! Â The tuna had the perfect amount of spice to it, just a hint of hot but not overbearing.
The best part about this whole meal?? It was only 5 bucks a plate and it was actually pretty healthy! Â I will definitely have to go back some Thursday soon to try their pizza.... I can't wait! Â This place gets a thumbs up from me! Â I also recommend Taphouse any time of the week for a drink, the people are always awesome and the atmosphere is really chill!
If you liked this review and you want to check out any more restaurants I've reveiwed in Reno check out my blog called Biggest Little City Eats at: <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fjparkhurst07.wordpress.com%2F&s=8846e9def6c22d7dd9e96a23b150c2e7f6ab16a4682530eefbe6013d53236790" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://jparkhurst07.word…</a>
I unknowingly stumbled in during a great deal. It was happy hour, so pints were cheap, and I got a 12 inch pizza for only $5. The waitress said that want usually the deal, but I came at the right time. The pizza was delicious. Thin crust that was good, but let the sauce, cheese, and toppings be the stars. The bartender was friendly, she took one look at my card when I opened my tab and remembered my name for the rest of the night. Being from Seattle, we don't usually see much more than the Sierra pale and barley wine in bottles, so I had never had their IPA nor any of their stuff on tap. Short story: I enjoyed it. I'll be back here next time I'm in Reno.
Review Source:I always enjoy coming here. They always have a great draft selection, mostly Sierra Nevada, and then a ton of bottled beer. The bartenders are all really knowledgeable and super friendly. I always like asking about what I'm about to drink, and there's nothing appealing about a bartender that can't or won't answer your questions.
I also really appreciate their outdoor seating right by the river. Â Great place to catch up or people watch.
This is a fun little bar. Wednesday night trivia night is where its at! Great time, great atmosphere, and a host who is engaging and fun without being over the top or annoying. Just awesome. The beer selection is only ok, which is why only 4 stars, but sometimes a night out is about the atmosphere and not just the grog. I settled in with a few blonds (the beer ya dirty minded fiends) and was good to go for the rest of the night.
Review Source:my wife and i went in to use a groupon we purchased and i must say they had a nice selection of beer on tap that we enjoyed plus got some food from the other busneiss which was good but i must say the guy behind the bar was very friendly and personable and we had wanted to try the chicken wings but were told the oven was broken that they were working on it but anyway a little bit later the bartender said the oven was fixed and he gave us an order of wings complimentry cause he wanted us to try and they were really good. so needless to say we would go back and enjoy some more beers and wings
Review Source:I purchased a Groupon for beer tasting at this place and after a movie, my husband and I walked down the block to try some of the Sierra Nevada brewskis on tap. We did not know it was a "wine/walk" afternoon and there were a thousand young people milling about (looked like mostly UNR students), but they were friendly enough. The beers were good, although my Ovila Abbey Dubbel was warm. The problem I have is with the tall, skinny, blonde-haired guy behind the bar. Yes, he was overloaded by work from all the people in this little small place, but wait until you hear how rude he was! Â So, I ordered two beers and he was pleasant enough at that time. We exchanged a few pleasantries and I took my beers outside to people watch and enjoy the afternoon sun on their teeny-tiny "patio" by the river. When I went back in 15 minutes later to order two more beers, he brings them and says "that'll be $12". I nicely reminded him that I handed him a Groupon just a few minutes ago and he snapped at me and said "YOU NEED TO TELL ME THAT UPFRONT!" Â I was so shocked at his rudeness that I was speechless for a moment, which is unusual for me. Â Okay....so when he took a cigarette break earlier, as he ran back inside he put his cigarette out in the ashtray on our little table - and he didn't even put it all the way out - and we don't smoke! How disgusting was THAT??!!! He didn't say 'excuse, me, can I use your ashtray' or 'sorry' or anything like that, no...this little twit just stubbs his cigarette out in the ashtray and then I had to touch it and finish putting it out. Â Okay...so I mention to him when I am picking up my 2 final beers that I didn't appreciate the fact that the stubbed his cancer-stick out in the ashtray on our table as we do not smoke. HE TOTALLY FLIPPED OUT AND TOLD ME TO LEAVE! I didn't want to get into it with this guy, so I turned my back on him and walked back outside. Â I guess he didn't like that I was ignoring his INSANITY and RUDENESS as he came flying outside by our table and SCREAMED at me to finish my beers and leave as he was the manager and I should never come back or he was calling the cops! Â REALLY?! Â WHAT FOR YOU LITTLE WEASEL???? Oh, and btw, you won't remember me when I come back as you couldn't remember that I was the woman with a Groupon that you talked with in a 15 min. time span. Â Although, I don't really want to come back (and I am not worried about my photo on Yelp as I change the way I look quite often)! Oh and did I mention that most medical journal articles associate mental health issues with smoking cigarettes??????? Â Funny how that works, eh? Â I will be calling the owner soon....
Review Source:If you're a fixie-pedaling, tight-jean weaing, cigarette smoking hipster, then you have found your second home! Â If you like paying full price for beers even when there is a festival going on in Wingfield Park (right outside the doors) then you will love this place! Â My biggest complaint would be their pricing and lack of specials, although $2 PBR bottles isn't bad, it does attract an unusual amount of hipsters. Â Best attribute is the location, right on the Truckee River!
Review Source:This is one of the better bar's in town. As you have read before they only have Sierra Nevada Beer on tap, However what you might not realize is that they have rotating selection of 7 (more if they have a cask or event) of Sierra Nevada beers on tap. They have very rare selections that you will never see in any other bar unless you go to the brewery itself in Chico, CA.
If you don't like what you see on tap they have plenty of bottles from a variety of brewery's, a fine selection of spirits and some specialty cocktails.
The bar is very clean has some great specials throughout the week and the bartenders are very knowledgeable about what they are serving and are quite nice and courteous.
There is food that comes from the coffee shop upstairs that is very tasty too, the pizza is amazing! (see my Java Jungle review)
This place can be a bit hard to find as it faces the river and is not visible from the street, and the seating outside is limited and gets packed in the summer, hopefully they will be able to expand it at some point, but those are very small flaws for everything else that this place has going for it.
The majority of the times that I've stayed over in Reno have included a trip to the tap house. It is great to get Sierra Nevada beers on tap other than just the Pale Ale. Most of the times that I've been there the place is not very busy and therefore pretty mellow and relaxing.
Most recently I stopped in for some drinks on New Year's Eve. The place was much busier than I had ever seen it, but my girlfriend and I still managed to snag two seats at the bar. There was one bar tender and her hands were mighty full, but she did a good job getting around to everyone in a timely manner. They gave out some party favors and free champagne.
All in all, this is a great place to go if you want to relax and and enjoy some great beers.
Note: The coffee shop up stairs has wifi that you can connect to from the Taphouse.
I love this bar by the river. I usually stop by this bar every friday since i am at Wingfield Park for Rollin On The River. Great Bar, Great fun friendly staff and great view from the patio. It's definately a spot to take a date for a glass of wine or a great pint of Beer, LOL I also recommend stopping by Rollin on the River in July, Free concerts with food vendors and a free movie at 9pm, so stoll on over after you have a drink, Then of course return after all the festivities of Rollin on the River.
Review Source:I hate trivia. In fact, jeopardy usually makes me want to punch pillows and snap at my boyfriend...
But trivia here is awesome. It's not easy, but the crowd is hilarious and the host (i forget his name but he's loud AND funny....not loud and annoying like most hosts) is fantastic.
Beer selection is 'meh". I give it a "meh" plus a "so-so" hand motion. But seriously....do the trivia. It's so fun. Oh but...if you're like me and have the memory of a toddler with ADD...then maybe bring some people who have a knck for remembering the most. random. shit. everrr.
Needs more seating, both indoors and out. And could definitely be cleaner.
Went there for an afternoon Guiness. Â Beautiful location along the Truckee. Â
Along comes a dog, fresh from a dip in the river. Â Bartender takes the bar towel and dries off the dog. Â Continues to rub dog and serve beer.
I don't care THAT much for dogs and won't be back, there's other places serving Guiness.
The first time I went to Reno a few years ago I was taken to this place and liked it, though it was far too crowded for my taste. Recently I was in town again, killing time before meeting a buddy for a movie nearby. I was wandering around, looking at the river, and realized that I had been in this spot before. Sure enough, I turned my head to my left and there it was! Went in for a quick beer. Ordered a draft Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for $3! And it wasn't a small glass either! The next night I was killing some time again and ordered a Belgian Triple, also $3, which was OK. Then went for another Pale when my friend showed up. Great place if you have just a few bucks to spare and need a good beer. Just be careful sitting at the bar before your friends show up, because those video poker machines can be tempting.
Review Source:Rating based on being a place to get a decent beer with outdoor seating-
So one of my favorite things in life is to have a nice relaxing beer after work/after shopping/during shopping/after driving. Â OK, pretty much anytime, but certainly after a trying hour of driving the nitemare that is Hwy 80. Â What I generally look for is a place with a decent selection of drafts, a nice place to sit outside, and the "comfort" factor. Â What I mean by this it that I'm usually by myself while in Reno and a lot of times I get that "hmmm, a single woman looking for men" vibe. Â Really, I'm just trying to enjoy a refreshing, life restoring beer. Â
So let's sum up, I'm looking for:
* Good beer
* Nice place to sit outside
* No weird vibes
The tap room provided all this! Â Their draft selection was a bit limited (anything you want as long as it's from Sierra Nevada Brewery) and the outside tables were a bit cramped. Â I actually had to crawl over a couple to get to an empty spot. Â And before I even sat down the guy next to me started talking, but hey he was nice and safely married.
They do have a full bar, my bartender was fast 'n friendly, the interior, while small looked decent and my draft cost $3.50. Â I'm going back. Â
Beer - 4 I think there was also a Guinness on tap
Ambiance - 4 Â Outside tables with good people watching, but a bit cramped
Service - 5 Quick!
Lack of weird vibes  - 5
I've seen a few Sierra Nevada brews in my life, but Sierra Taphouse had two variety of brown ale. One was the traditional Brown Ale, and then they had a Brown Saison. What's the difference? Well I clearly didn't know but the bartender was well versed in the differences and he rattled off his knowledge and offered a sample of the Brown Saison ...
That's enough for me to enjoy a bar/pub/brewhouse... have a bartender that knows what (s)he's talking about ....
I was a little unhappy about $9 for two beer, but we had a good time. Every time I've ever tried to stop in this place has been during some downtown event and there is literally no room - we came down this time mid afternoon on a weekday and had no trouble making our way to the bar, or finding a table on the narrow patio.
Funny, I can't find the Brown Saison brew at the Sierra Nevada website - but I will look for it on future pub visits.
Good spot !!
The Monday deal is all day , 2 dollar drafts !
I like that they spend a lot of time promoting the games and have an e-mail list for events,
I could do without the smoking on the skinny patio, but thems the breaks.
And numbnuts that have their dogs with them that bark at everything, leave em' home or keep going, you are ruining the peace and quiet.
Cause you did a bad job of socializing your dog
The City has the redass for people going over the Mason Dixon line
then they give the heat to the owners, too bad because now they have to be stern about going over the green line.
Enough people sneak over that I can understand them being overly snippy about it now.
The City should be way more friendly to businesses that spend money trying to make money and help with reinventing downtown.
LIGHTEN UP RENO CITY HALL !!!!!
The only thing I'm taking off for here is price, but I understand why it's pricey. I'm just cheap and impossible to please.
Mondays are rad. It's $2 for most of the Sierra Nevada beers on tap. The more, erm, alcoholic ones are $3. It goes on all night and there's usually plenty of seating available in the two rooms.
Tuesdays are also fun: trivia night. You have to get there early to secure a table because this place is BUMPING by about 8 p.m. Win free rounds!
Otherwise, this place is great (and packed) when it's nice out. It's got that whole "scenic" thing going for it because it's all up on the Truckee River's business.
Another bonus is the yummy food from upstairs. I've seen the pizzas and they look amazing - and I believe there's a special on Wednesdays....pizza and a pint for $7 or something like that?
- Excellent spot to sip a beer while watching the people walk by on a hot day in Reno.
- The friendly guy in the blue shirt will yell at you if you keep trying to walk over to look at the water, which you can't actually see from the bar.
- After asking the ATM for $200, it says "I'm going to give you $20 instead. Here ya go!" without prompting for confirmation and still charging you the $4.50 transaction fee
- People watching in Reno should qualify as an extreme sport.
Whenever I come to this stop on the wine walk, I always find them rude and unpleasant. Â I figured maybe I should stop in for a non-Wine Walk drink to get a better feel for the place.
Meh.
The bartenders were nice but not what I would call friendly. Â My drink was strong but expensive. Â The place was crowded with a few large groups which made it loud but also made it feel like we were crashing somebody else's party.
I think maybe I'll try coming here for trivia night...that sounds fun and maybe would give me a better impression of this bar.
The Tap House offers a very relaxing atmosphere. Â It is right on the river and sitting outside makes for some very good people watching! Â I think it is the laid back feeling that makes me like going here so much.
It can get pretty crowded here, and it's pretty hard to predict when the right time to go is.
Tap House used to just serve drinks, but now they have teamed up with Java Jungle upstairs and serve sandwiches and pizza.
Smoking is outside on the patio, and drinks are allowed outside, but not passed the fence/green bricks.
They have live music every so often, and other events, such as trivia night. Â They also are a stop on the pub crawls and wine walks.
