This place always has exceptional music blaring out the doors. It will attract any individual who appreciates real music!

Love their live music and the non-alchoholic cranberry soda that we were able to get from the bar. We were going to order food there, but they were out of the only thing on the menu my guy wanted to eat: fish and chips. Seriously? Out of fish and chips? Seems like such a common menu item, you'd think they'd keep their inventory together on that one....
We ended up going someplace else to eat and coming back for drinks and music.

Have been to Sleeping Lady many times and always had a good experiences and the food is fresh and good. They also have gluten free options for buns, pizza and pasta!

Today was the Fairfax Festival and I live in Fairfax and really craved a burger. It was mayhem of course and the Sleeping Lady was slammed - but I sat down anyway.
The waitress was super nice, I got my drink fast and my food - a burger with Gluten free bun and sweet potato fries was great as well!
Yay! i'm a fan and will go over and over again.

Good food, cute place, great staff... I think its named after the waitresses since they're not always the most attentive, but hey for Fairfax its great.

I checked in here and now they want me to write a review. I was just here to play some music and the only thing I can comment on is the pint. The pint of Guinness of course. Mother's milk,

My daughter's guitar teacher held her students' recital here this week and I can't say enough great things about this place. There were a TON of families there to watch all the kids perform and the waitresses were really on top of all the orders and were super patient with all the kids everywhere. We got there a little on the early side and were able to eat before the show started but my husband got there late and ordered when he got there. Everything arrived in a timely fashion and was pretty good. The kids' mac & cheese could have used a little more salt but that's probably the worst thing I can say about our meal.

Great little place!

Cool musicians from all over the area meets with a wine, beer and cider bar. Their cider on tap is great - Manger's or something like that. Food is good but a little too much on the heavy side. When there's good music it really draws a crowd!

This is an excellent small club to watch live music and get a meal. A one stop night out!
The staff is friendly, professional and polite. Like old friends. The food is great. I highly recommend the lentil soup and chicken Marsala.

Adorable little eatery with tasty, veggie friendly items. Very creative decor with funky signs and local art, and a beautiful patio for the warmer times of the year. I came here with my family for Sunday brunch, and my Mom had a veggie omelet with feta cheese, mushrooms, and spinach, which was reportedly delicious, I had the veggie panini on focaccia bread (they did forget to press it in an actual panini grill, but it was so tasty I didn't send it back)and my brother had a cheeseburger, which he devoured in minutes, so it must have been yummy. We both had shoestring potato fries, something I'd never normally order, but they looked too tasty to pass up; glad I did-they were perfectly crispy and amazing.

The best thing besides the food, is they had a ukulele gathering here where people at literally every table inside the restaurant were playing their ukuleles together! They had a band up front leading the songs, and they all sounded great-how fun is that?! I had never heard of Fairfax, but we stopped here as a midway point between Sonoma and the city, and I'm happy we found this little treasure.

I was already won over by the Sleeping Lady when I saw Pliny the Elder on tap... which was one of the coldest, most delicious pints of beer I have ever enjoyed... my chicken and brie panini was perfect! Gooey brie accompanied with mushrooms and a little Dijon, I was content. In addition, their sweet potato fries were a perfect side dish to split. Sat outside, was warmed by the heating lamps and had a relaxing meal.

A friend of ours was performing here so we went in thinking "Oh cool" Irish pub some Irish pub food would be nice. Not so ,only thing on the menu even remotely Irish was some fish and chips. Who has an Irish pub (owned by Irishman by the way ) and not have at least one or two Irish staples.
Once we got over our disappointment we found some things on the menu.
I had a very fishy tasting grilled Salmon with a tasteless balsamic reduction drizzle along with some so-so quinoa,my wife had a much more appetizing and flavorful pasta with smoked Salmon in a cream sauce.
They do not have a full bar only beer and wine of which they had a nice selection.
Over all an OK place in a nice location, might go back for lunch or just drinks. Probably not dinner.

Very nice place. Well decorated inside, not like many Bay area cafes where you feel like in an office space. Friendly and family oriented, open mic every Monday, singing classes Saturdays (at least we've been there while they had one :-)). Food is more on a "simple" side but can't complain about quality. Drop by if you'll be near Fairfax! I will next time I'm around.

Stopped in Fairfax for a bite to eat after hiking Mt. Tam (viewing Cataract Falls after the rain). Since Tamalpais is "sleeping lady" in Miwok, this seemed like an appropriate place to check out.

I loved it - a very cozy, intimate atmosphere. They have live music every night, and a small curtained stage inset into the wall for the musical acts. We were there on a Sunday afternoon, so against the other wall, in the openness of the restaurant, were a few musicians playing Celtic music. It was all very charming.

And, the food was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my chicken Panini (served on a ciabatta roll, which is unusual), with sautéed mushrooms and cheese, and I added apple wood smoked bacon. The skinny fries were standard fare, but wouldn't have wanted anything heavier with the sandwich. My friends enjoyed their meals as well - beer battered fish & chips, chicken Panini with red peppers, and a hamburger.

A lovely way to cap off the day. If I'm ever in the area evening-wise, I'd be interested in checking out the crowd and the music.

I almost don't want to tell you about this, because I don't want the place to get packed, but on Sunday afternoons this is THE place to be. A gang of folks sit down at the long table and play traditional Irish music from 2-5, and there's just nothing better then sitting and listening, enjoying a pint and some food.

About the food- it used to be... well.... not so good. But they have a new chef during the day and things have really improved! I still don't go there to eat as much as listen to the music, but at least while I occupy my table for 3 hours there's some tasty stuff to snack on. Pizza crust is thin and crispy. Truffle fries are tasty. And of course lots of Fairfaxian things like quinoa salad.

(note: be sure not to miss the 4:00 recitation)

The Sleeping Lady is one of the best kept secrets in Marin. It's a staple in the Fairfax community. The Open Mic night on Mondays are so much fun! It's a real treat to see some of the budding talent in the area. The food here is really good. I'll admit, in the past it was mediocre. They've recently changed chefs and the food has improved IMMENSELY.

I really cant say enough about this place. If you appreciate good music and great food, don't miss it!

Good place. Tiny venue for live music. They're doing a good job of running a cafe and venue. Very popular Sunday Irish music session, and crazy popular Saturday Uke session. Everybody in the place is smiling.
The staff is helpful and courteous, food is good to great. No unpleasant surprises here for me.
All in all, a good, socially responsible establishment doing their best to serve the community.

I worked at the Lady briefly in 2009 and I have to object to Colleen S.'s comparison of the Sleeping Lady and its neighbors Iron Springs and 19 Broadway.

This is like comparing an apple to an elephant, no slight intended to either. Iron Springs is a sports bar and 19 Broadway is a dive that smells like......well, teen spirit. Not that I have an objection to either, but one cannot compare the obvious charms of the Lady and the dubious virtue of 19 Broadway.

True, I have not eaten there since I worked there, but I thought the food was delicious and I ate quite a bit of it. And I am not just an eater, I'm also a professional chef, and I know both quality and care. Yes, of course, every restaurant has its off days - the restaurant bad hair day.

Finally, to imply that Tera or Iseult would throw out any "law-abiding gentle soul" is absurd in the extreme. That "gentle soul" may not be so gentle under the influence. I don't know, I wasn't there, but I do know it's bad business to "forcibly" eject paying customers who are not causing trouble. Really, that just is way too much of a stretch for a savvy businesswoman like Tera and a super laid-back lady like Iseult.

I only gave it 4 stars as it's been years since I've been there, but they deserve 10 for hiring people like Stacy Thunes.

So the music is fantastic - 5 stars
but the place is so small that when people start dancing tensions can get high - so subtract 2 stars.
The food is over-priced, flavorless and unimaginative - 1 star.
The wine list has some good selections, beer on tap pretty pitiful for being in West Marin - 2 stars.
The service is touch and go - 2 stars.

Be aware that I know of at least 3 law-abiding gentle souls who have been forcibly rejected from this place for whistling, dancing and woo-hoo-ing.

Hard to pick this place when Ironsprings and 19 Broadway are on the same street.

Love this place whenever I'm in Fairfax- Monday nights are Open Mic, and you can see a wide range of musical styles in a casual, friendly place. The music calendar is definitely worth checking out!

The beers on tap aren't anything special, and the food, well, is forgivable. However, this place really has a great welcoming atmosphere- it's easy to start a conversation with whoever is sitting next to you. Not too many places in Marin are like that.

A friend of mine introduced me this little lovely place.

The food is good, the tea is great and the music is Awesome! yes with a capital A!! I find myself at the restaurant/bar/ coffee shop probably 3-4 times a month.

I recommend going. It's cozy, casual, yummy, great vibes and local.

Stopped in here for dinner & drinks after hiking Mt. Tam. It was the 4th of July, they were busy & definitely didn't schedule appropriately as they only had 1 server on (apparently), 1 bartender, 1 hostess & 2-3 dishwashers. It's a really cute spot - nice tables by the windows & an outdoor patio that's fenced in.

We waited a very long time to place our orders...too long. Service - once received by the bartender - was really good.

I split the Mediterrean Pizza & Watermelon Salad w/ a friend.

The pizza was delicious - fresh goat cheese w/ roasted garlic, sauce & mozzarella cheese on a perfectly baked pizza dough. 4 slices to a pie, perfect to share.

Watermelon salad was equally good. Not too much champagne vinaigrette poured over top (usually order on the side, but in my daze I forgot). Watermelon chunks & goat cheese interspered in salad - they complemented yet contrasted each other very well.

Good selection of beers on tap. Bathroom's not too fancy - unisex which can make for a long wait when there's only 1 & a line. Definitely a local's fave as people came & went the whole time we were there. I'd go back next time I'm in the area.

Come for the beer (ONLY if Iron Springs down the street is closed), stay for the music. But do NOT make the mistake of eating here.
Bland, unimaginative, disappointing. Have salt and other seasonings been banned in Fairfax?
I was so impressed by the lack of flavor that I actually found myself thinking about writing this review that night sitting next to my mom on her deathbed.
Fish tacos? Tasteless. Wrapped with the cardboard the fish arrived in.
Giant white beans? Thick wallpaper paste.
Blue cheese wedge was edible but it's hard to mess up a quarter head of iceberg lettuce.
C'mon Sleeping Lady: live a little! Hire a chef! Invest in some spices! Shell out for a cleaning service to bring your kitchen up to first-world standards so customers don't lose their appetites while passing through to the back patio.

We visited the Sleeping Lady for an impromptu dinner after a hectic day of corporate b/s. The atmosphere was immediately cordial, community-oriented and relaxing. A good start. We were spoiled for choice when looking through the menu, and ended up ordering too much food, which still managed to be mostly consumed.

Goat cheese salad, truffle fries (yummy), veggie burger with delicious dressing on the side salad, all came in generous portions and served by friendly staff. A bottle of Bonterra Chardonnay washed it all down way too easily for a Wednesday night! We already realize that we need to go back just to sample all the other great options on the menu.

Live music is a regular feature and we sadly had to leave just before the evening's entertainment got started. Judging by the warm-up that the band was doing, and the crowd that we had to push our way through to leave the restaurant, we missed out - but all the more reason to go back, right?

Why not five stars? Perhaps that will change when we go back more regularly but we felt a little like interlopers at an establishment for locals. We live just down the road in San Anselmo and yes, there are distinct differences in demographic profiles. If the atmosphere that we experienced upon entering, spilled over to all of the staff (most were great, one or two were a little "off"), then the fifth star would be there.

Great prices - give it a try!

Still as cozy, darling, and musical as I remember it.

On Mondays the Sleeping Lady is the. http://place.to.be.trust.

One of the most well run open mics in the area, the Sleeping Lady makes magic happen on the regular.

All ages are welcome here. All talents are welcome here. And if you sign up, and show up early - you're pretty much guaranteed a chance to perform.

As an audience member, just kick back with some tea, some good food (everything that passed by looked tasty) and get ready for something different. Every. Time.

Trust.

We were led to the Sleeping Lady by our local friend who particularly likes the back patio. No wonder! It's seriously charming. We lunched under the large Oak trees on a perfect California Fall day.

I had a fresh salad with Quinoa, dried cherries and cranberries, Spring mix and other vegetables. It was delicious! --except for when something fell onto my salad from above and I couldn't figure out what had fallen in until I bit into an Oak leaf -(blah!)
The big guy had a Paninni filled with melted cheeses, sans Oak leaf ;-}

Yuk! Breakfast smelled like fish! Was probably my worst experience in a restaurant EVER.

Ordered eggs bendict and my hubby ordered eggs, potatoes and bacon. We start eating...smell something fishy smelling and figure it might be coming from outside ..and then realize IT IS OUR FOOD. The potatoes especially tasted like they had been cooked near fish or with fishy oil.

We stop eating and tell waitress who says "eww... let me get those away from you "..we are expecting an offer to at least re-make our breakfasts since we have not eaten them BUT she takes them away and then brings us our bill after taking just $4 off.

I was feeling sick and didn't have the heart to argue so in the end we paid twenty bucks for two cups of coffee and a couple bites of fishy eggs and potatoes.
GROSS GROSS GROSS

First the staff is Very friendly and attentive. Don't be a stranger, sit at the bar because they are very chatty.
Second the live music every evening is a wonderful draw and Monday's open mic night is one of the most diverse and fun around.
Third the food is excellent. I always get the soup but when the red pepper bisque soup is on I get two bowls.

I have meant to get out and visit more of his area but I kind of got stuck here recently. I'm okay with that.

Came here Friday evening for a quick beer after seeing Crazyheart, (EXCELLENT movie, BTW) and going to dinner at Taco Janes. What a wonderful little nook in Fairfax. Very relaxed atmosphere; nice and welcoming. Most importantly, wide array of beer on draft, and it's even reasonably priced!

Looking forward to trying dinner here, the menu looks great!

I ordered a hamburger and fries.. and well.. it was Ok.. The service was excellent and maybe it was that this place was pretty dead anyways and they were HAPPY to see me walk through the door. I could give this three and and a half stars..- the burger meat was rather on the dry cardboard side.. so when tasting it, I ended up forcing the food down by washing it away with beer. I just kind of wish, for the money that I had to depart with, the food was a lot better.

Good points it was clean inside..very tidy

This place deserves five stars, which is why I am giving it five stars. However, I will not tell anyone why I am giving it five stars, since if I did, several people would clamor to The Sleeping Lady and it would be impossible for me and my family to enjoy the very reason I am now giving it five stars.

It has nothing to do with the food (which is fairly good) or the music (which is also usually good). In addition, it has absolutely nothing to do with the reason some other people may have wanted to give it five stars under the former ownership. It has everything to do with the attentiveness and excellent customer service the staff displays--but I am not saying any more.

Great venue for listening to music and having dinner,

Friendly atmosphere, good food, Consistently good musicians.
The Moroccan Spiced Calamari w/ cucumber lime aioli appetizer is awesome, but a little rich to have without friends to share.

I especially like the fish and chips, Mussels in season, burgers, and salmon, fettucini with smoked salmon. The For desert the Chocolate mousse tort is great.

Service is not always fast, but is always friendly and since we are usually staying for the music we are not usually in a hurry. This is our favorite place for dinner and music.

Music starts a little late. Except for Sunday usually not til 9 or 9:30.

I was thoroughly impressed with the music and atmosphere when I visited the sleeping lady a few weeks ago. I dropped in to grab a drink and enjoy the band. There was a five dollar cover which was more than fair for such a cool atmosphere with a solid band providing the backup tunes.
The beer list is solid, comparable to most bars in the area, and the prices were fair.
I'm usually hesitant to drop dollas for a cover but it was only 5 bucks and the band was good so I don't regret it.

I will most definitely head back to the sleeping lady the next time I'm in Fairfax.

It might be the euphoria of a 11.5 mile hike I did with my boyfriend but this place was a pleasant surprise. We were both famished and wanting a good meal that was casual since we just came back from a long hike. We stopped in this town to check out what our options were and figured this would do.

We came in and it was packed, we took a seat at the bar and got some wine and relaxed. A band came on that was really good, I remember saying, so we came out here for great live music. We were both totally happy and ordered out food. I got salmon with butternut squash and potatoes and he got chicken. Both were excellent, fresh, great taste and flavoring and something very rustic about it.

We happily ate at the bar with the music in the background and us wrapping up and amazing day together.

I wouldn't drive from SF here but I would definitely come back if I was in the area.

I give the Sleeping Lady a lot of credit for sticking to the ideals of Fairfax, i.e. locally sourced organic ingredients. But the food is a little inconsistent. Kind of a strange comment but that is the only way to describe it.

The fish I had was very good. The sides were not so much. The corn bread was a little doughy and drenched in butter to the point that was all you tasted. The other side dish was butternut squash with sage and dried cherries. Sounds great but the squash was under cooked and again it was drenched in butter. If not for the cherries the butter would have taken over this side as well.
The atmosphere was very nice and the service was great. We will probably give them one more try but for the price the food we received was below average. The service helped bring my rating up to a three.

This place has a folky, warm atmosphere. Perfect for those chilly fairfax nights. The sleeping lady has live music every night. Even though it's a relatively small place, they do have a bar with a solid selection of beers on tap (10-15 if i remember correctly)

When I walked in the get out of the cold last night there was an amazing kid who couldn't have been more than 14 rocking out on an acoustic guitar. Monday night is open mic, so get there before 8 if you want to get in the lineup.

They have a really wide selection of food and its all been really tasty. Their owners are friendly irish musicians. and there is a lot of history behind the place. Make sure you stop here if you find yourself out in fairfax at night.
