Yelp doesn't often steer me wrong often but this place was a total miss. Don't let the name mislead you, this is not a brewery, it is a dirty bar.  The table we found was sticky and gross, but we decided to stick it out based on the good reviews. Wish we hadn't ...

When we finally got a server to pay attention to us, we asked about beer.  She merely flipped the menu over and pointed to the bottle list with "this is what we've got." I expected microbrews but they had just one specialty bottled beer that someone contract brews for them.

The food was boring and average. We tried both the mesquite grouper and the fried grouper sandwich and neither was anything special. So disappointing.

Other negatives: smoking is allowed in the bar area. The table next to ours complained of a hair in their oysters. The beer my husband wanted was available but they didn't have any cold (huh?). The list goes on.  I would never, ever go back.

Beach bar place with rolls of paper towels on the tables. We expected nothing special but the food was really good . My wife had a grouper sandwich - super-fresh she loved it. I had the garlic crab legs which were amazing. Killed half the roll of paper towels, but if you like SPICY these will rank up there with some of the best stuff you ever ate. Wish they sold the sauce.

If Gilligan shacked up with Elly May Clampett and Charlie Tuna in a drunken threesome, SOB is the nine-month result.

Only the fourth wall exists - it's rowdy, raucous, loud with live music and sandier than the chick from Grease. They bottle their own brew (damn drinkable) and if you're not looking for seafood, then put down the menu and GTFO.

Having been raised 'round these parts, the atmospheric migration from pure beach bum to now-aged-and-appropriately-leathered beach bum was a bit more subtle to the kid, who underscored the youngest cat in the bar by a solid two decades. But the energy is high, and the food... well, it's surprisingly delicious.

Blackened grouper, corn on the cob and a boatload of slaw will run you $20, and a bucket of icy reds, even less. Crack a bottle, feast on fresh catch and sing along to semi acoustic peelings of Jimmy, Elton, Billy and Bruce, all while slamming palms on the table in the company of shit-faced friends. Because this is Fort Myers Beach, dammit.

We went to this "brewery" based on the good reviews. Major disappointment,  because "brewery" is misleading. Nothing but run of the mill bottled beers and only one beer supposedly brewed by them, and that was bottled. The bartender assured me it was similar to Sam Adams or Yingling (sp?) But I think that's quite a stretch.  The oysters were good, the wings and coconut shrimp were mediocre. Nobody ever asked if we wanted a second beer... service matched the food- mediocre. We will not go back, especially since we discovered a brews place with 50 beers on tap a block down the street.
I should add, for a beach bar this place is great. Just don't expect a brewery.

Read the reviews and had to check it out! Atmosphere was great, live music great server and excellent food. I had the smoked fish dip and the Filet of Grouper, grilled with Mesquite  Marinade. Huge meal and excellent. Will be back!!!

Personally, I was unimpressed and felt this place was way overpriced. Full disclosure, though, I don't tend to like seafood and wasn't about to spend $15+ on something I might not even enjoy. I was starving so I went for the burger. Meh. I ordered it medium and it was definitely well-done, but I was so hungry I didn't care. Still, I was unimpressed. I tried a bite of the grouper sandwich and did not like it. My companion who ordered it didn't think a whole lot of it either. (Again, at a $12+ price especially.) Our "Happy Hour" beers were also ridiculously overpriced. I believe it was $3.50 each for bottles of Sam Adams and Mich Ultra -- what? That's a deal?

The location isn't even that great either. It's a bit of a walk from the beach, nearly under the bridge. There was another brewery-ish place (looked new, next to/attached to a sushi place) along the way that we almost stopped in that had way cheaper drinks and meals, wish we had eaten there instead.

Also, no idea why they call this place a brewery. I didn't even notice any of their own beer on the menu. And they only offer bottles, no draft.

The place was packed though. It was like old people spring break - lots of middle-aged and older people who were drunk and eating buckets and buckets of oysters, etc. Meh.

Good atmosphere, good beer selection, food is below average. Beach meal but average for anything fried or grilled.

Oysters were decent - Rockefeller and raw...
Good spot to drink beer and do a few shots of Bacardi OakHeart.

    Decent food.  Kick a$$ drinks.

Per our server's suggestion we tried the pork shanks.  They really were quite delicious.  Of course, by the time they arrived I was drunk, but I'm pretty sure they were delicious.

The Bahama Mama did me in.  Tall and cold!

Food we tried: coconut shrimp, beach bread and fried oysters.  All pretty good.  Nothing spectacular.  But those drinks...

New to the area, brought a visiting friend here based on Yelp reviews.  Loved the place.  John, our bartender was so friendly, even the customers were friendly.    Went on a Friday night and they had live music.  I had mussels, my friend had Oyster Rockefeller and both dishes were outstanding.

We were down in Ft. Myers for a day and decided to go to the beach and find something to eat. It was my mother and I, and we are both huge seafood fans, so this seemed like a good place, especially with all the yelpers giving good reviews.

We got the flounder bites, which were on special, and were REALLY good and very tender, not the normal chewy fish you would expect, and then we split a bucket of steamed oysters. They came out un-shuck, and you have to do them yourself. They  also were great, and it was a perfect meal for two between the grouper and the oysters. The servers were attentive, showed us the proper way to shuck an oyster, and overall had a delicious and fun lunch.

Drinks wise, My mom had a bloody mary, and then a white wine. The bloody mary was good, nothing spectacular. I had the drink special of the day and it was great and they actually put some liquor in it finally, didn't skimp on that which always gets extra points in my book. I also tried their house beer, which comes in a bottle, and it was a good amber lager.

Would recommend to anyone, you cant go wrong here.

My wife and I headed to Ft. Myers Beach randomly one night for a quick drink.  We were looking for a nice chill bar with music and cold beer, and we found it!  There was a guitarist, who is a regular, and plenty of cold beers all presented in their own coozie.  The menu looked a little generic, but I decided to give it a try and the food turned out to be really good.  I had the island bread which was more like a soft pizza, and my wife had the stuffed shrooms which were great!  I will definitely be back!  My only small

Since moving down to SWFL, this has become one of our favorite places to go on the weekends. The servers are always fast and helpful and the place is bustling usually -- even during the day.

I've sampled everything from their shrimp to their hamburgers and have never been disappointed. Their scallops have been my absolute favorite menu item thus far and while the price is what I consider a splurge for a beach dive (about $13), it's totally worth it.

I love sitting at the high tops and people watching or enjoying the breeze. Sometimes there will be live music and the decor is typical Florida cheese. Love.

Try their SOB Whatbeer. My husband LOVES it.

When setting the standard for delicious beach dive bars look no further than here. The SOB has been rockin' it for years. Killer seafood. Cold beer. Lively conversations aplenty. Old school weather beaten wood decor. Old school sun beaten sharp-tongued staff.
When you're on the beach, this is what you want.
If it was on the water, you would never be able to get a table.

What a great place on Florida's west coast.  Spent the weekend in Fort Myers Beach, and our hotel, the Sun Deck Inn, just happened to be a block from SOB.  After receiving a couple of recommendations, we went for dinner on Friday night.  Excellent, fresh oysters and peel and eat shrimp, strong drinks and friendly service.  My boyfriend's grouper sandwich was excellent, and I am picky about seafood.  The mixed conch/clam chowder was surprisingly delicious.

The atmosphere is great, with live music.  It felt like we were in Key West, only without the 4-hour drive.  We are definitely fans, and will be back next time we're on the other side of the state.

Man I love this place. It seems to a huge favorite with the locals. The SOB chowder is killer. I wanted to take a vat home but they wouldn't let me.

SOB is a great little bar. It has a beachy feel and is an open-air bar so you feel as if you're sitting outside, even though you have a roof overhead. The live music is entertaining, but we come here for the food. I think their grouper is the best I've had on the island. No trip to Fort Myers Beach would be complete without coming to SOB for the grouper sandwich. We come to FMB every May and I am already craving that grouper! Can't wait to return to SOB.

Rough and tough on the outside, but salty and fresh just like the Oysters they serve. The restaurant is open with seating on three sides and a bar in the center. You can't beat the ocean breeze and quick paced service. Don't expect any over the top ass kissing, but staff are laid back and know what they're doing. A special shout out to my bud Doug. I enjoyed every minute.

We had the pleasure of snagging a table at SOB for lunch.  Even at 2pm the place was nearly full.  The inside is decorated with all sorts of awesome cheesy beachy decor.  It's fun to look at everything while waiting for your food.

Almost instantly after we sat down the waiter got us our drinks.  For how packed the place was he did a superb job of being attentive.  The menu was the perfect size.  Not too big, but full of wonder choices.  Everything on the menu sounded delicious.  I finally settled on a shrimp boil and my wife decided to try a grouper sandwich.

My shrimp boil was fantastic!  It was packed with shrimp, red potatoes, corn and sausage in a spicy, savory broth.  I ate every last bite and was tempted to lick the bowl.  It was perfectly seasoned and some of the best shrimp I've eaten in my life (and I've eaten A LOT of shrimp in my life).

My wife loved her grouper sandwich.  She has been on a mission to try all the grouper sandwiches in town.  She said the light, well-seasoned batter on this one made it a strong contender for best grouper sandwich she's had.

Because of the awesome live music they have, this place has been on our 'to try' list for awhile.  Now that we have been wowed by them, we can't wait to try the other menu items.  Other restaurants in the area should take note from SOB because they are an example of how to do things right.

Great local joint off the beach. We went for dinner based on other Yelp reviews. And we were not disappointed. Music, ambiance, service, and food - all great! It is open air, but it's nice!

Drinks: We both had drinks off the menu, and they were fantastic! You could taste the liquor, and after one... we were feeling nice!

Dinner: Fried Clams - very good! SOB Chowder - Extreemly tasty! The clam chowder was good enough to eat on its own! Some o dis, some o dat (grouper, oysters, shrimp) - all were perfectly fried and tasty. My boyfriend stated it was some of the best grouper he's ever had.

We went here the other day for dinner and drinks.  Dave was our server and caught us right as we walked in the door and helped us get a table.  They were slammed so we were grateful.

We caught the tail end of happy hour.  Cheap drinks and some food specials.  We ordered the mussels to test them out.  They put some spices on them...nothing special and what I can say is they were really fresh.  I've had better mussels on the island over at Junkanoos so I prob won't order here again...at least they were fresh!  And a good price during happy hour.

Now, for dinner we split a double order of Garlic Crab legs.  These were pretty good!  My husband is still saying he liked them.  Full of spices and bathed in butter.  They had a little too much spices for my specific taste, so I dipped in some butter to offset the spices.  Overall I was happy with them and kicked the crab craving I was having.

They had someone singing/playing there live, and his music selection was great.  Classic rock feel.  Place was crowded from the time we got there to well after we left.  Very close to the middle of Times Square, so after we left we walked around and ended up hanging and chatting on the beach for a bit.

I'd say this isn't the best spot for kids...most of the seating is at the bar or in the bar section...and most of the people are pretty drunk by the evening...so if you're looking for family atmosphere or a place to take the kids I'd head elsewhere.

I'll go again before I leave the island...just not my first choice of places to go.

Basic bar and seafood shack food done right. Actually, better than right, done really, really well.

The first night we arrived at Fort Myer's Beach, while checking out things in downtown, we noticed this place. It was kind of hard to miss, the only place in this off-season that was so full, people were waiting outside to get in.

A few days later we stop by around 7, and there were only 2 tables left in the place. A gentleman with a guitar was doing a good job playing acoustic covers of old favorites. The waitress sat us in a corner, and we ordered mixed drinks off the menu.

Those drinks were awesome. Tall glasses, good fruit flavor, plenty of alcohol. It just got better from there. I ordered the grouper sandwich, blackened, my husband got a buffalo chicken sandwich. Both came out great. The fries were battered, which are my favorite, crisp on the outside  and smooth on the inside, and the onion rings were not greasy at all. At the table they have various sauce and spices, to let you mix things up a bit as you eat.

I could probably eat here every day of my vacation, and not feel I was missing out on anything else.

Stopped in our way to the airport, just as the opened. Great place to sit and enjoy the sunshine and have a drink or two or three. Food is surprisingly varied and good for "bar food" - take advantage of the seafood selections!
It's a flip-flops and bikini type of place, so don't come expecting anything else.

My boyfriend and I found this place on Yelp and stopped in to check it out.  The food was pretty fantastic in our opinion, and the atmosphere was pretty cool, too.  I'd read that the drinks were strong, and after trying a few, I'd have to agree, but they were pretty tasty, too.

The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because the bar crowd eventually envelops the front end of the restaurant (where my boyfriend and I were sitting) and that crowd gets kind of rowdy the later it gets.  Our waitress was really good about making sure that the bar crowd gave us our space to finish eating, though, so kudos to her.

I recommend coming in for early dinner or trying to snag a set in the back somewhere.

Interestingly enough, this is the best meal I had while visiting the area. It's definitely a dive, and certainly not a place you'd expect to find great food, but there it is, and the food is great. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but most of the rest of my family is, and they seemed to have a great time sipping beers at the bar. I can only comment on their food.

My wife and I started by splitting the scallops, prepared in a garlic butter sauce. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the garlic butter sauce was a great compliment to them. It was especially delicious to dip the bread in the sauce! My only real complain was that there was probably a bit too much sauce for the number of scallops. It tasted great, but was kind of like a soup.

I then had the cajun mahi fish sandwich, which which was incredible. The fish was cooked well, and the sandwich wasn't too big or too heavy. I'm a sucker for a good sandwich, and this was really, really good. My wife ordered the garlic dungeness crab. It came with a lot of crab, but she polished off every bite of it (with my help!). The crab was well cooked, and the garlic sauce went great with it.

All in all, a very pleasant surprise. I had heard great things about the place from my family, but had my reservations -- they said the same things about another place, that I thought was terrible. They just so happened to be spot-on with this one. Highly recommended!

4 Stars for atmosphere and the friendly staff.  3 stars for the food.  We had a great time here and the food was very good bar food but nothing overly exciting.  We had the oysters, conch chowder, clam chowder, fried clams and the garlic blue crab.

The garlic crab sauce looked no more than butter with garlic and chili powder.  There was no attempt to thicken it so it just sat at the bottom of the crab's bowl looking pretty non-appetizing.  The taste wasn't very spectacular either.  My wife took some of hers home and reheated it in the microwave the next day and we had to open the windows to fumigate the place.

Go for a great time and adequate food.

This is the first place we stopped in FMB, and it was delicious.  The blackened grouper sandwich was very tasty, and my wife raved about the spicy garlic crabs.  We tried to get them to tell us what the spices were, but no one would give it up.

SOB is also a good place to go for a few drinks on a Saturday night.  A really laid back, neighborhood bar atmosphere.  Be forewarned though, they close at 11:30 even on weekends.

Overall good experience, big party place, however not a good place to go on a hot day, very bad ventilation, the island bread appetizer was amazing. the other apps were very small portions, and not a good place for a family and not a good menu for kids.
mixed drinks were not very good (not made well) and everything that was suppose to be cold got warm very fast because of the heat in there!

After a day of riding bikes around Sanibel what are you to do?  How about get a beer and some oysters?

Ft. Meyers beach is one of those strange places in florida that I don't know what to make of.  Being from California the old type florida beach city doesn't match what I think of as a beach city.  But nestled in with the crazy shell shops and tee shirt places was the smoking oyster brewery.  The place had a cool vibe and of all the other open air bar on the street the only one with people and activity.  Stopped in for a beer and  a snack.

They have their own beer, but it doesn't look like they brew it on premises and instead have some other place bottle it for them.  Which seems odd, why don't they have it on tap?  It is a good ale, but with "brewery" in your name why don't you have your "own" beer on tap?  The oysters were good, tasty and fresh as they should be.  We also tried the Caribbean shrimp.  I'm not sure why they are Caribbean because it is basically shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce.  ON the plus side the sauce was extra yummy and the good crusty bread they served it with was perfect for scooping it up and enjoying the sauce.  Hell, I'll just take the bowl of sauce and bread and forget the shrimp.  Again, not sure why they called it Caribbean because nothing about it tied it to the caribbean and it was much more like some yummy italian concoction than anything I've ever had in the islands.

All in all a decent place with character to get a beer. Can't speak to their other food but looked like standard bar things.

This is the place to go in Ft. Myers Beach, especially past 9pm.  This restaurant has a fun lively atmosphere of what raw bar in the keys should be like.  There's not a huge amount of seating and can appear to be croweded.  Just walk towards the back and the friendly staff will direct you to open spots, or just sit at the bar.  The walls are surrounded with humorous, random nick-nacks that seems to have made it there over time. The only negative thing to say is that there is no A/C. The night we went, there was solo guitarrist playing live acoustic sets of your favorite classic rock songs.  They seem to have live music all the time.

The staff is superb, quick and friendly.  This place has carachter, of the good kind.

I ordered oysters which came complete with all the fixin's and were super fresh.  My wife ordered the garlic crabs which were so tender, no untensils were needed to crack the shell.  The flavor was out of this world with a combination of old bay, chili, garlic and others to make it the best tasting crab we have ever eaten.  In fact, it was so good, I was taking left over crackers and dipping them in sauce. Corn on the cob and potatoes followed suit.

I ended up ordering 3 dozen oysters, all perfectly sized and shucked.  As soon as I made an order, the oysters were at the table in less than a minute with a packed restaurant.

This is the staple of Ft. Myers Beach where the locals go and also recommend.  The food was great and resonably priced.  I would recommend it to anyone.

SOB was our second venture and the most enjoyed.

Our server, Eddie, was great and so was the prices for the location. The appetizers dishes were smaller than expected but the taste was delicious by far. Beats out any other places I have tried by the water. The raw oysters were fresher than those at Beached Whale. The coconut shrimp actually tasted fresh and how it should be. We were not disappointed with the chicken caesar salad and the nice surprise of garlic bread on the side was a bonus.

The house brew SOB beer is not that for a Coors Light drinker but more of a medium beer (between coors light and sam adams) with full taste.

They have live music almost every night. The night I was there, a country guy performed. Although he didnt know jimmy buffet's margaritaville, he was still entertaining. i might be bias as he sang kenny chesney's no shoes, no shirt, no problem.

This bar is right on the main strip by the beach, within walking distance of shops and hotels. It is all patio seating which is great if the weather isn't too warm. They have decent live music. They do have thier own brew, but only one flavor that I was told of, so the title brewery is a little misleading. We didn't eat anything, so I can't comment on the food.  It is pretty much what I would expect out of an island bar.
