BBQ and tater tots? YES PLEASE!
I had the pulled pork and it was delicious, and I was so glad that they had tater tots. We almost went down the street because of their tater tots, but I really wanted BBQ and I ended up having both YUMMY!
It's way out of the way for us, although I'd like to go back there often I don't see that happening. I will keep it in mind though because the pork was delicious.
There's no changing table for babies in the bathroom- only bummer but not a big deal this time.
I should preface this review by saying I'm a memphis style rib-lovin' Texan so when I crave BBQ I do have something specific in mind that would be really hard to find in Chicago.
I ordered for the first time tonight from grub hub and delivery was spot on. Â The meal however was "meh". Â I prefer the St louis cut of ribs and the babyback ribs are weird and chewy/fatty. Â Also the dry rub smoky flavor just didn't come through for me in either the ribs or pulled pork. Â The baked beans were good the mac and cheese was just ok. Â I had SUPER mac and cheese at the Skylark the other night... so disappointing by comparison for sure.
The sauce was very good and the highlight of the meal. Â In the end, my belly is full but I am left wishing for a BBQ place in Chicago that will serve up smoky flavor ribs, with fried okra, hush puppies and biscuits.
I get a lot of restaurant ideas from various food shows that showcase the large amount of variety of cuisine in Chicago. Often I get fascinated by a particular segment; I get surprised when the place that I am intrerested in is not too far from my neighborhood. My excitement level was raised when I first learned about Smokin Woodys, simply because I found that there are not a lot of good places in the city that specialize in BBQ.
Visited last night for a nice dinner. Ordered a hot sirloin sandwich with woody potatoes and a small side salad. The salad was standard, not too much you can do to make it amazing. The potatoes were ok, I was a little disappointed that they gave me so little of an amount. The sandwich though, was really good. There was a large amount of meat on it; the meat itself was full of flavor and juicy. The cheese & onions toppings worked out well too.
Keep in mind that the place accepts cash only; there is an ATM in the restaurant but I lterally ran 3 1/2 blocks down Lincoln to get cash out of my ATM (saved the $2 atm fee, AND i got a nice jog in. HIGH FIVE!).
The entire meal really filled me up; I had to fight the urge to order the pecan pie for dessert even though it sounded really good. Maybe next time.
