Another awesome spot, right around the corner from me, in my neighborhood...
Rich woodsy decor, brass accents, cozy booths, bar tables aplenty, and a solid beer list. Had a nice low key meal at the bar of Guinness and cod. This is such a "just the right size" place, happy bar company, and excellent service. Drinks tended to efficiently and politely by the bartenders, just the right amount of TV's (2) and no jackass loud blaring background music.
Great location, right next to the Music Box for movie going. See the movie first, cause once you start drinking and eating here you won't want to leave. That is the mark of a great bar in my book.
Cullen' s is is that bar. Â You know the one, the one that is in your neighborhood, where people there know you. they pour a good drink and the food is decent and of huge proportion for the money.
Too bad it's not in my neighborhood but I seem to go here a lot as my friend lives around the corner.
The bartenders are always quick with a quip or a drink and I like the ebb and flow of people as this place maximizes it's location by having a connecting door to the entrance way to the Mercury theater so people are always coming or going.
As for the menu, it's vast but somehow I've only ever had the burger (delicious) the mac and cheese (get a friend to help you eat it) and the fish tacos (my friend's fav!).
Another plus? Â Street parking is actually pretty easy on Southport.
I was surprised the first time I walked into Cullen's as I thought it was "just another bar on Southport". Â But Cullen's has proven to me that it's a step above.
