This is a great place for a romantic night out or happy hour with friends.

They have a great drink selection no matter what your poison is.  Their libations are very tasty.

Menu has something for everyone!   This is a place where you want a 3 courses.  My boyfriend and I have been there for both brunch and dinner and we were not disappointed.  As a vegetarian, I am very happy with the options they offer.

Make this the next place you check out!

Positives: nice architecture and location, my vodka lemonade was good, and the tables/seats were comfortable.

Negatives: shrimp was overcooked, menu had too much fancy shamsy descriptions for sauce? in/over/under? items, that I avoided all entrees and just stuck with app and soup. Good fish is ruined by "creative" sauces, stick with quality and QUANTITY please. The entrees that were ordered were insultingly small for the price. The tomato-fennel soups was more like puree than soup, but the taste was good.
The restrooms are both unisex, which upset all in our party. Do something about that please. Male urine is smelly and I don't want to wait in line with men for the restroom. The men in line weren't happy either about having to wait in line while people that were seated outside got a view of our line. Tacky.

Would go elsewhere for a trendy restaurant experience, fish, and definitely go somewhere else if you are hungry and need a decent portion size!

Good food but they don't tell you what is actually covered on happy hour. I asked for the days selection of oysters sitting during happy hour and they did not mention that only one was covered by happy hour. My bill was 4 x what I expected, and when I talked to the servers they seemed embarrassed like this is how they deceive people during happy hour.

Amazing!  I am so mad at myself for not going here before now.  We went on a Saturday late morning / early afternoon.  We sat upstairs but unfortunately the outdoor patio was full so we had to sit inside.  Looks like the view from the patio is probably awesome.  The inside has a great feel, the bar is beautiful.  The service was great, very fast and friendly.  Sometimes brunch menus can be boring but the brunch at Solace was fantastic.  My husband had the cheek hash and loved it and I really really loved my french toast.  The pecans and syrup were sweet and delicious and the bread perfect.  It came with fresh fruit and a wonderful, super yummy sausage.  The portions were huge but the prices were great!  The drinks were all super great as well.  I am so excited to come here again soon and try more food and drinks!

The ahi tartare and the mussels are delicous appetizers. Nice ambience.

We started out with a few appetizers.  The yellowtail tartare was fresh and the addition of chills gave it a zing without overwhelming the flavor.  The artesian cheese were also very good- the fig honey compote paired nicely with the tart green apple slices and soft cheeses.

Main Courses were good quality.  I ordered the Seared Diver Scallops which were slightly smaller in size than I expected; however, they were not overcooked (this is often a problem with smaller scallops). The dish, similar to the tartare, had a mildly spicy flavor but were well balanced with the fresh lightly seasoned romanesco broccoli and garbanzo beans.  I was told the trout was fresh and the potion was generous.

Desserts were outstanding.  I normally do not eat a lot of sweets but the Coconut Cake was too good to resist a few extra bites!  We also ordered the Peanut Butter Cup - very good and, as you would expect, very rich! However, even my chocolate loving boyfriend remarked that he enjoyed the coconut cake more.

Overall lovely experience; However, I could not give it five stars due to the service (e.g., waitress did not check to see how the meals were, took more than 25 minutes to offer a beverage refill, and failed to clear used silverware).  Although these are things I overlook in casual dinning, I do not in fine dinning experiences.  These issues, however, could be addressed and improved with additional waitstaff training.

Went there for the first time tonight.... Sat outside upstairs and liked that so much more than sitting inside downstairs. Oysters were awesome, tomato soup awesome, clam chowder- watery and bland, salmon was great, hanger steak pretty good, coconut cake was the HIGHLIGHT of the meal!!! So good!!

I came in for lunch. The bartender was very friendly and talkative. I was trying not to interrupt his setting up the bar and organizing but he seemed like he wanted to talk so ok you can entertain me while I have lunch. I ordered the quinoa burger. It was tasty but fell apart and I had a hard time eating it and needed to use a fork and gave up on the sandwich part. The fries were good but I was too busy eating the biscuits. They were the best. Good food, good service, place was half empty for lunch, just how I like it.

I took my son in law here. He is a serious cook from Boston. He says that the food was so delicious that if he lived here he would never have to cook again. That says it all. We love Solace, very YUMMY.
Remember to try the Cuke Mule. It's a drink served in a camping mug and it is fantastic

Very fun place to eat. We sat upstairs at the huge communal seating table. The vibe is upbeat and fun. Any establishment that has a huge picture of The Dude on its wall is a place I want to be!

After asking the server what options she recommended, she stated that the beef cheek was a very popular choice. Having never tried beef cheek before, I was immediately intrigued. They slow cook this meet for something like 4 hours. When my meal came, the expediter jokingly said, "Oops, I forgot your knife...it's cool you won't need it!" I thought it was a joke, but he never returned, and he was right. This was one of the most tender meats I've ever tried. I highly recommend it. The Stormy Ginger was fresh and tasty.

Some of the items on the menu are a bit pricey. If you're looking for a tasty option for a little less coin, try the tomato soup and grilled cheese combination. A friend in my group ordered this and was very happy with the combination. It's tasty and you get a good amount of food.

We've frequented Solace often since it opened in Encinitas about two years ago. I can't believe I haven't reviewed before now. We've been in for brunch, lunch, dinner, a drink and a snack - we've tried a lot of their menus and have never been disappointed. Sometimes I wish there were more surprising combinations and flavor combos within their menus, but I also can't blame them for going with what they know will be really good, well-received food.  Service has always been friendly. Keep it up, Solace!

Great local restaurant with carefully and thoughtfully sourced food, creatively assembled and cooked.  Delicious!  Friendly staff and good service.  Great selection of beers and an Oyster bar to boot!  The only thing I ever found that was a miss was the veggieburger, which I am told tasted great but didn't have much body.  Great brunch menu.  I have been there for dinner, lunch and brunch.  Always the same great quality and taste.

    Fresh, quality ingredients for meals....

I've been to its sister restaurant Urban Solace so I was looking forward to eating here.  Came for my friend's birthday and had reservations for 12 people.  We were seated right away and our staff was very attentive.  Our waitress was nice enough to offers us each separate checks and at the end of our meal came out with an ice cream sundae and candle for the bday boy.

Atmosphere:  Top floor is the "moonlight" lounge with outside views of downtown Encinitas and the ocean.  The bottom floor while not outdoors is still nice and inviting for customers.

    Food:
Looking down the menu, I liked how I saw quinoa, fennel and farro on the menu, a few of my healthy faves I like to eat at home and don't see often at restaurants.  I didn't see any pasta but mostly a couple burgers, meat, and fish.   Most of the entrees are $23 and over with the exception of the burgers/sandwich for around 11.  So not the cheapest but you pay for quality and tasty!

    - Warm Cheddar & Chive Biscuits, Orange Honey Butter, Smoked Tomato Jam- like everyone says, you gotta order them.  I wouldn't say they're soft and fluffy, a bit on the firm side but still good.

    - Coriander-Chili Roasted Jidori Chicken, Organic Creamy Grits, Garlic Kale, Chorizo-Lime Broth- my chicken was so tender and pretty big at half of a whole chicken.  I liked the kale, grits and chorizo lime broth too.  I did not like the coriander chunks though, that was a bit too much.

    - Caramelized Leek & Bacon Stuffed Trout, Roasted Fennel, Cracked Almonds, Red Potato, Herbed Jus- nice flavor and the trout was fresh.  Pretty good serving, my hubs was stuffed after this.

    - Slow Roasted Niman Ranch Pork Belly, Crispy Grits, Braised Baby Fennel, Spicy Herb Puree- my friend enjoyed this but was surprised on how tiny the pork belly was.

    - Seared Diver Scallops, Grilled Romanesco Broccoli, Fresh Garbanzo Beans, Sopressata, Hazelnut-Bell Pepper Sauce- my friend said this was delicious and light, she didn't feel overly stuffed with this and was happy there was at least 6 good sized scallops.

I def. need to come back for brunch!

Overpriced for the flavors.  It definitely has a lot of pretty ladies eating together dressed up though so if that's what you are into then get your booty down there and get those beautiful babies!

We made a reservation for four at the start of brunch service on Father's Day. We were seated right away, but sat at our table for 10 minutes before our waitress came to our table. I note that it was the start of brunch because there weren't many customers there yet, so not much reason for our waitress to not take our drink order. We ordered a cinnamon roll to start and the rest of our food, with one special order request - no nuts in the banana pancakes. We received the cinnamon roll within another 10 minutes, and it was huge and delicious. Then we waited another 20 minutes We watched the tables that were seated after us get their food and leave. Then the manager came up and said it would be another 8 minutes or so, but with no explanation of why our food was late, and offered to bring us a plate of fruit - which turned out to be a few slices of melon and pineapple. We added a side of bacon to the order, because we realized we forgot to order it.

Food finally came 45 minutes after we were seated. The "banana" pancakes were pancakes with 4 slices of banana on top and 5 blackberries. Not quite what was expected for $11. The beef hash was delicious, as was the pork belly bennie (though the pork belly portion was so small compared to the amount of starch on the plate). And the bacon never showed up until I stopped our server for boxes (since she never stopped at our table after our food was served). She said she thought someone else brought our bacon and we just ate it all before she came by. So she then brings out a plate of soggy floppy bacon coated in sugar and tells us that she is comping the bacon since it didn't come out. Thanks for that.

The food ranged from delicious to completely disappointing. The service was just disappointing. Oh, and the upstairs bathroom was jammed shut the entire service, so there was a long line waiting for the downstairs bathroom. Not a great thing for a brunch on a holiday.

I went here with my boyfriend a few nights ago and loved it!!!! the service was amazing, the food selection was huge, the beer/ wine selection was INCREDIBLE, and overall, the food was perfect. I ordered the burger with everything added and loved it. it was huge. the only downside to it was that it was extremely salty tasting. the whole dish was.

We ordered a meat and cheese plate. the selection of cheeses was astounding. the beer that my boyfriend ordered was something he searches for everywhere we go. I ordered the white sangria and oh man, i could not get enough! i strongly suggest this place to anyone that is looking for a good place to go with great food, seating, and service.

Food is delicious.  Wait staff and management - not very friendly.  I'm not sure if they are told to act that "uppidy" or what the case may be.

My first experience was terrific (at night) - knowledgeable waitress, terrific food, etc.  Second time I went (Sunday afternoon), the waitress forgot to put the order in, came back to inform our group and said "MY APOLIGIES" (all in one sentence) with a condescending smile and walked away before we could react.  We were fine with it. Until the manager came to our table (though we hadn't even requested to speak to her).  The manager was very aggressive and defensive for no reason at all.  It was an odd and very uncomfortable experience.  However, don't let this one experience misled you...I will not be returning because of that experience alone, however, food is good.

I like this place for it's food and location.  And in the summer when they open all the "walls" to the outside, open air it's the best place to be.  Service is friendly, spot on and the oyster bar serves freshest, always diverse fare.  My only distraction is the noise level upstairs.  Not a place to have intimate dinners unless maybe, sitting downstairs.

Love Solace. The upstairs is a vibrant, active bar with outdoor seating while the downstairs is a quiet, almost elegant restaurant where you can relax and actually hold a conversation while enjoying outstanding food.

    Fantastic date spot!

I am a big fan of Urban Solace in San Diego. I saw Solace on my train ride home. I grabbed the girlfriend and headed over to see if they were related. Maybe by name.......We ordered some drinks and a couple of appis. The first downer was a "warm" beer (no it was not casked!). When the appis arrived we found them to be small and the chips that accompanied one were stale. The happily brought another type of bread instead, but as the two star Yelp says....Meh. It was bad enough that we moved on to another place for dinner. I see the glowing reviews (one reason I went), but one bitten twice shy.

    As superb as the original!

It's no secret that Urban Solace is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego -- or anywhere else, really -- and its younger sibling up in Encinitas easily meets the lofty expectations set by the original.

I dropped by Solace on a Wednesday afternoon for some happy hour noshing and cocktails.  Unlike the original, Solace is a sprawling, contemporary space with two levels and no shortage of seating.  The top level (the so-called Moonlight Lounge) has beautiful views of downtown Encinitas and the ocean a short hop-skip-and-jump away.  Sick and tired of the lines and crowds fighting for a reservation at Urban Solace?  Just come here instead and enjoy the Pacific breezes.

The happy hour menu has fantastic deals on both cocktails and snacks.  Here's what I tried:

** Sangria with mango, peach, and champagne.  Heaven!  The perfect refresher on a warm afternoon.

** Grapefruit tarragon margarita.  Also heaven!  The grapefruit mellowed out the tequila nicely (think more paloma and less margarita), and the fresh tarragon added something spicy and unexpected.

** Cheddar and chive biscuits with tomato jam and orange/honey butter.   Best biscuits in San Diego?  I'd say so!  They were warm, flaky, indulgent, and all-around fabulous.  Loved switching between the two spreads -- one savory (tomato) and one sweet (orange/honey).

** Albacore chop chop.  Essentially Solace's version of a tartare, this dish also has avocado, cucumbers, pine nuts, and peppers.  Each bite was perfection, especially when smothered on the spicy chips.

Service was also on-point.  The bartender was friendly, prompt, and courteous -- and he knows how to pour a mean cocktail.

The verdict?  Solace is amazing, and my love for all things Solace-related just keeps growing everyday.

Solace is a nice dinner/date night spot in Encinitas.  We sort of stumbled upon it one night when there was a really long wait at 3rd Corner, so decided to give it a try.

We didn't have to wait long for a table, and were seated in the upstairs/bar area.  It was a Friday night, so it was pretty packed.  The tables were really close together and it was pretty noisy, but the awesome food made up for it!

We tried a bunch of small plates to share (our fave dining style!).  The Cheddar & Chive Biscuts are a must try- they are incredible!  We also really liked the cheese plate and the albacore tartare.

The service wasn't bad, but wasn't really memorable.  Because of the really good food we would definitely go back, but would probably make a reservation to sit in the main dining room for a bit better ambiance.

We would never have known about Solace if not for their booth (and amazing tangerine duck) at the Mama's Day charity event last week.

The restaurant is a beautiful two-story affair, with the kitchen downstairs. Great view upstairs, with balcony seating. Lots of wood in the decor. Very cozy. Very friendly. There's free two-hour parking on the street, and I believe there's a public lot across the street.

The peach bellini was the best I'd ever had! Just one glass got me plenty tipsy. We had the spicy shrimp sauté, tomato-fennel soup, hanger steak benedict, and beef cheek hash. All very good, cooked perfectly with layers of flavor that just kept amazing us with every bite. But really, the one thing I still dream about is the Nutter Fluff dessert. Layers of flavors mixed in with chewiness, crispiness, softness, and gooeyness, all in each bite. The presentation was beautiful too.

Our waiter was great. He checked on us throughout our meal and was very knowledable about the menu. I think he made as great an impression on us as the food. I can't wait to visit again!

I went to Solace and the Moonlight Lounge recently for private party, where everything was fantastic, but I'm going to focus this review on the business lunches I've had at Solace as an ordinary paying customer, most recently last Friday.  I've also been to the sister restaurant in North Park, plus a couple dinners at this restaurant in Encinitas.

On Friday I had a truly fantastic sandwich - the "Bahn Belly" with BBQ'd pork belly, pickled onions, and herbs on a baguette.  I didn't taste a lot of bahn mi in this sandwich, but the pork belly was wonderfully crispy and the BBQ sauce was delicious. What made the sandwich for me was the herb spread, which was full of flavor and complementary to the other inputs but was also crazy spicy. The server warned me and all but dared me to order it, and I'm really glad I did. I didn't emerge from the sandwich unscathed - the spices built up slowly and after a particularly fiery mouthful in the 2nd half I broke down and ordered a glass of milk. Well worth it. Great sandwich.

My buddy ordered the Roasted Pork-Loin sandwich with caramelized fennel, arugula, fontina cheese, and mustard on an egg bun. Another great sandwich, which coincidentally I also ordered on my last visit.  Loved that one too.

Great restaurant.  Beautifully built out, nice balcony upstairs and great sandwiches (really good fries too). Whether for a business lunch, special event, weekend brunch or a nice dinner, Solace and the Moonlight Lounge is an excellent choice, in my experience.

I don't hang out in Encinitas much...why?...well it is kinda in between work and home...much closer to work.  That being said it has such a cool little downtown area near the water that every time I go...I always end up asking why not come here more?

Well after getting input from some high profile Yelpers this was my place to go to for a Friday night out.  Reservations...no problem.  Got seated promptly on the first level (second level is first come first served basis) and I must say not a beat was missed from that moment.  Drinks were refilled continuously....food came out promptly and in order...appies...entrees...dessert (you'd be surprised how many people jack this up) and every worker we came in contact with was great.

The place has a good young vibe to it and feels like the place to be...great date place or spot to grab a few before your night out.  They have a pretty decent beer and wine selection and the food was all very good.  My only two knocks on this place which keep it from a 5 would be that it is nice to have a little more space between tables...just not a fan of being close enough to borrow anything from my neighbor's table just by reaching out my arm...or by listening to how I'm gonna bend over my date that night.  Also, while  I feel like everything we had on the menu (2 appies, 2 entrees and dessert) were all excellent...there wasn't a lot of variety to choose from...I kinda like a few more options when dining out...I'm not talking pages worth...but more than a handful.  That being said I will definitely be back

Came here for brunch last weekend.  Was surprised by the fantastic beer taplist - anyone with Societe on tap automatically gets an extra star.

This place has really, really good food.  The biscuits they use in their dishes are delicious, the bacon is top-notch and that damn cinnamon roll is unbelievable.  One of my new favorites in the area, and I will be returning.

Need an upscale place to go in Encinitas? Craving the best watermelon salad in North County? Want salmon, duck, or beef that melts in your mouth? You need to go to Solace!

Tucked away in a unique location in Encinitas, this place is probably the best upscale restaurant in North County. The vibe is wonderful, elegant, beautiful, urban, and local. I loved every inch of the property!

BUT THE FOOD! Oh my god. I've sampled the biscuits (you need to eat these with the BBQ jam) and the watermelon salad. As entrees: the salmon, duck, and beef. For dessert? The coconut cake. All of it was spectacular. I wish I could eat here every evening because I wouldn't tire of the spectacular menu.

If you're looking for an upscale in Encinitas or North County, GO HERE! You won't be disappointed!

Every time my fiance comes in to visit me, we end up here at least once during her stay. We're both big fans of the drinks served in mason jars or cool little tin mugs. The drinks and draught beer / wine is really what draws us here, but the food is great as well. They make their own infusions of alcohols, they they keep handy to add to drinks. It's a really cool place to get some unique cocktails.

While it's not the cheapest place to visit, the whole place is decorated awesome and the servers are super friendly and will kind of walk you through preferences and ingredients before you dive into something you won't enjoy.  We will keep this place a staple in our diets while she visits.

Yet another "trendy" place that I went into with trepidation.  It's on the 101... it's a converted train station... it's right by a set of condos they're trying to sell for 500k... all signs pointed to expensive food that left you wanting for more after everything was said and done.

But I ended up being surprised by Solace.  We were seated in the restaurant after only waiting for a few minutes.  Yes, the cheese plate was expensive but really good.  All of the fruit and condiment sides were very thoughtfully put together so the tastes complemented one another.  And the burgers... this place serves the best burger I think I've ever had in my life.  So, SO good.

Their beer and wine selection was impressive.  They had a nice range of brews that you don't normally see on tap along with a few seasonal 22oz bottles you could buy.  All the wines they had were above average in quality.  Like you're actually buying a nice glass of wine when you're paying $10 and not just a cheap wine with a huge markup.

All in all, definitely worth checking out.  Yes, it was expensive.  But the kind of place you leave feeling like your money was well-spent for a nice evening out.

I frequently get asked for where to go, what to eat, and this is one of the places I recommend in Encinitas without reservation. You'll have a lovely meal with quality local ingredients and excellent knowledgeable service from cool staff members while supporting a locally owned joint. If you don't want the downstairs full dining experiences, head upstairs and get 1.5$ oysters during HH or a cocktail from their crafty bartenders.

My first experience more than a year ago was a simple drink on the patio on our way elsewhere: I was intrigued and vowed I return to explore the menu and options. Since then I've added several visits to my experiences-without a single complaint! I really feel like when you visit a business several times and it's five stars all around... they really deserve that Yelp "Woohoo!" As good as it gets!" rating.

    Notable menu items!
Seared Albacore Chop Chop: Avo, Cilantro, Cukes, Pine Nuts, Peppers (It's like a cobb ceviche really) it's served with nice crispy thin crackers.

Seared Diver Scallops, Spring Veggie Sauté, Meyer Lemon, Roasted Onion Sauce (the meyer lemon is sublime, yum in the tum! Also a light dish, not super filling but satisfying)

Warm Cheddar & Chive Biscuits, Orange Honey Butter, Smoked Tomato Jam (These are a Solace & ML Lounge MUST HAVE, if you can't finish them, holla! I'll eat em ALL)

Braised Paso Prime Grass-Fed Beef Cheek, Mashed Sweet Potato, Smoked Tomato Jam (It's the best meat and potatoes possible!)

Try the Persephone's Punch! (They also have a selection of skinny cocktails under 130 calories! That screams bikini season peeps!)

It's not a cheap place, they're really serious about putting safe quality and clean food in your body. The Chef's philosophy takes effort to produce so!  Eat on, and rest easy knowing what you're paying for is worth it.

Note: there is a second bathroom upstairs.

A long, long time ago (about 2 weeks ago), in a galaxy far, far away (about 20 minutes from where I live)... a juicy mound of beef cheeks (and I still don't know WHICH cheeks) came upon a lonely slice of coconut cake. After a treacherous journey throughout the galaxy, conquering the Sith, these unexpected friends made their way into my stomach, inside which an Ewok celebration commenced.

Seriously, though, this place is one of my favorites, for a number of reasons. The food. The ambience. The art. The energy. And ESPECIALLY the service. While I've only been there a handful of times, every time it's been top-notch. Jason was amazing, equal parts hilarious and attentively nice. He's the one who served up the unforgettable beef cheeks (don't ask, just order it) and orgasmically decadent coconut cake I mentioned. Milan/Mike is another kick-ass and super funny employee, who helped suggest these magical culinary creations. Overall, awesome staff! People like these who are not only helpful, but also genuine, make the dining experience that much more enjoyable, in my humble opinion.

Whether you're traveling through or a short drive away, this place is always worth stopping by. I can honestly say that I've had one of my best meals ever here. :)

Great meal.  Interesting clientele, different from the North Park version.  The ambiance is much better here than North Park. There's separation of dining from the bar since the bar is upstairs.  Also, the upstairs heated outdoor seating along the perimeter of the building is a perfect intimate setting.  Easy parking across the street in the public lot.  Whole foods is right next door if you want to pop in for some provisions before you head home!

The menu is fantastic, as are the cocktails.  The care and attention to preparation really shows.  Service is genuine, professional, informed and prompt.

The clientele makes for great people watching.  Hipsters, Cougars and Bears, oh my!

We'll keep going back for the great meal and floorshow.

We love Solace! My girlfriend is in love with the tomato-fennel soup....to the point where I have had to try to recreate it at home for her :)

We like eating oysters here. They usually have a good variety and some of the staff come back with good knowledge. Their foods are 4 star worthy. We've tried everything from mussels to grilled cheese and quinoia burgers. nothing seems to fall short.

This is a great local spot to come casually or on a date. We prefer the outdoor seating.

oh and their scotch list is quite interesting...supposedly always changing which is cool and unique. i didn't find any usual suspects like macallan or oban but a whole list I've never tried and a waitress that wrote down notes from the bartender to give me!

I've taken friends here and highly recommend it!

I have been here for brunch and failed to review.  Although I didn't spot any 'healthy' per se items on the menu, the friends I was with for brunch were all incredibly picky eaters and all ordered off-menu or with menu alterations and everyone was satisfied. So A+ for that.

Last weekend, I had dinner at Solace. I had no idea it could be a completely different experience.  I took a girlfriend to dinner, we went right upstairs and ordered champagne (we were celebrating).  We chose to sit at the community table to eat dinner - a table of about 12 seats where people you don't know have dinner with you.  It wasn't as 'community' as I expected - almost like bar seating, where you might be sitting next to a stranger but your body language says - absolutely do not talk to me.  Haha, oh well.  Here's what we had:

Dirty martinis - 5 stars. Apparently I like my martinis "porn star dirty" which means extra olive juice and easy on the vermouth.  I learned that at Solace, so, awesome.

Albacore tuna appetizer - 3 stars. This was actually amazingly delicious, but so unexpected that I had to downgrade.  I expected seared fish slices with maybe a cracker or a bed of herbs.  Sort of like an Ahi tuna appetizer.  What we got were chunks of albacore blended with other sauces, herbs, veggies.  Almost like - - canned tuna fish.  Which I love, but wasn't really what I was going for in the middle of a nice dinner.

Trout - 4 stars.  I ordered the trout and my friend ordered the other entree, but we totally switched plates halfway through the meal.  The trout is buttery and not 'fishy' tasting at all.  I didn't like that it was cooked with skin on - the skin when cooked creates a hard shell that you have to break into, to find the meat.  So, completely different fish eating experience, than say, mahi or salmon.  Soft fish.  But still delish.

Beef cheek - 5 THOUSAND stars.  I'm sure beef cheek sounds completely disgusting to you but it was the most highly recommended dish by our waitress so we just went out on a limb and said, bring it to us.  Turns out, it is sort of like roast beef, but more moist, and in a tiny bit of a sauce that sort of reminds me of au jus meets A1.  And it comes with creamy mashed potatoes.  Holy cow I'm getting hungry describing it.

Solace is a lovely spot.  I will be back for brunch or dinner whenever I'm in Encinitas.
