All your cherry limeade are belong to my belly. With extra cherries.
Also the mocha java chiller, which is pretty much a zillion times better (rough estimate) than a Frappuccino, especially if you add a shot of coconut to it. And it's also less expensive, so you can buy your friend one, too. BONUS.
Tots are good. Fried pickles are good. Food is OK, for fast food. But the real reason you go here is the ice cream-based stuff and the drinks. For that, Sonic is great. I've never had a bad experience here, and I've gone to this location since it opened.
I stopped here for a quick dinner with my husband before heading out for the night.
Though my husband grew up in the area, we don't live there now. Usually, we're only nearby when visiting my in-laws' family, so we don't stop here often.
We took forever deciding what to order, but were never rushed. I was glad to see there is a red button to press when you are ready to order, so I didn't feel bad for all the time we needed to peruse the menu.
We ended up getting 2 burgers, a drink, tots, and a small strawberry-chocolate shake. Service was fast and friendly. I'd say it was only a few minutes before our order was delivered to the car. No roller skates to be seen though.
The burger was good, but I knocked a star off because they didn't follow my specific request. I ordered a cheeseburger, no tomato, no onion. There was tomato.
The shake was great! I let it sit for a little to warm up to the proper consistency. The strawberry and chocolate combination was delicious.
I have a groupon and had no problem using it. They just took $10 (the amount of the groupon) off our bill and charged us the remaining couple bucks.
Not the highest quality food there is, but it definitely did the job. Plus, it was kind of fun to eat in the car. It wasn't too busy, so that could account for the fast service. It was a Saturday around 6 though, so somewhat prime dinner time.
I will definitely be back.
I have been a fan of Sonic for years and was so excited with they can in to Illinois and one opened in my town.  One of my true loves is a  Cherry Lime aid, there is no finer beverage.  All the food is sold and they even have excellent breakfast stuff. For some reason I allways  seems there food is higher quality than your typical fast food place more of a homemade quality it., I cant explain why. My favorites are the Chicken sandwiches and they have very good burgers, great Rings and who doesnt love the Tots. Go for the food and stay for the ice cream and shakes, they make a mean fresh Banana  shake... its a hard choice between that and the Hot Fudge shake when I go. But the most unique thing they have is the Cream Slush I am so addicted, take a tradition ice slush (I prefer Cherry) and they mix it shake style with ice cream, it rocks....

This is sonic after all! For all you haters, remember you are eating fast food so what do you expect. I recently had a chance to head over to sonic and use my groupon which was a steal for the amount of food you got for 10 dollars. I ended up getting the double bacon burger with a side of tots, mozzarella sticks, and banana split. The burger itself was a good size and tasted way better than mcdonalds, however bacon makes everything taste better. You can taste the beef in this burger. It was not too messy as it is served in a small envelop that prevents making a mess in the car. Unlike other burger placed, tater tots are the sides. I can't say that I was loved or hated them, but they were a nice change. Crunchy and fresh. The mozzarella add on was perfect, if only they gave you more marinara sauce. On to dessert, now this is quite a challenge and easy to make a mess inside your care. While having our meal, the banana split slow melted in the plastic container. As you open it up and try to eat it, dripping can be a common occurrence and it is super hard not to drip on your shirt of pants. Be careful!
The ordering system here is great. You drive up to your stall which has a perfectly placed menu that blocks the view of other diners. Press the button when you are ready to order and the waiter brings out the food. You should tip them even though alot of other people don't. 1-2 dollars is not too much to ask.

Sonic is really growing on me. Â I was about to type "no pun intended", but if I keep going here, I think that I will have no choice but to have the "pun intended". Â
After visiting a few times here and there over the past year or so, I have found that this is quickly becoming one of our go-to spots for dinner. Â My 14 year old son, is definitely a fan. Â We tend to go on the nights that my husband is working.
Sonic uses crushed ice. This may not sound like something worth mentioning, but I like crushed ice and I can't think of another local place that uses it, so the ice gets a "mention". Â :-)
Sonic always has some pretty nice employees. Â Mainly kids, but an adult here and there to balance things out. Â I am picky (fans already know this), so I know that I cause headaches when ordering. Â The employees here never give me a hard time and always get it right the first time. Â BONUS! Â
Some favorites include the vanilla cone (it's only $1), the footlong hot dog, the bacon cheeseburger toaster (#4) with fries and a Dr. Pepper and the French Toast Sticks. Â Please do NOT try eating all of this at one time. Â I would guess that you won't feel well and might try to blame my review. Â Moving along...
This is a great location at Stearns Road and Route 59. Â Easy to get in and out of without a hassle. Â Stop by and give them a try. Â You'll likely become a fan, too.
I'm so happy they finally started building Sonic Drive-In's in the burbs of Chicago. It's about time after teasing us with those commercials all the time. What is there really to say about this place? You drive up and order from your car and they bring your food out to you. Very simple and awesome.
The drinks are good. It's what they're known for. Come during happy hour and it's half off. Â This is my go to place for chili dogs though. These are like foot long monsters covered in chili and cheese. Delicious. Thought they would all have to roller skate to the car but from what I saw, no one really did it. I guess that's too small of a issue to complain about.
Also they have a drive through window which is useful. Faster than driving up to a booth and ordering from there. In my mind it's all the same, but if you're in a rush, then you might as well use this option.
It's been a year since Sonic opened here in the west 'burbs. The novelty has worn off by now, so what do they have to offer?
The main problem is their food is usually meh, on a good day. I think Sonic tries to do carnival food, only good... the problem is it usually ends up being bad carnival food. The sandwiches are dry or too salty, and lately I've found even their onion rings to be oddly sweet (though still not as a bad as Burger King, thank goodness.)
The Chicago-style hot dog (a local specialty, I'm guessing) was better but still salty! The fries are better but still nothing to write home about, unless you get the cheese fries. The tater tots here are good, if you're craving that particular combination of grease and potatoes.
Things start improving once you get to the other side of the menu - the strawberry limeades are all right or awesome, depending on the day and who makes them. The flavored syrups they use here are of decent quality, and when utilized in sodas, it's not waaaay overdone like every Steak n' Shake in the midwest.
Once you get to some of the creamy stuff (coconut cream pie shake with pineapples, did someone say?), you forget about the idea of *ever* going to McDonald's for a sundae again.
There is something to be said for going across the street to the Dogfather for your meal, and crossing the street for a drink.
Their frozen desserts are really good, so I'll keep visiting this, and other, Sonic locations.
Go to sonic for Ice Cream Treats. One of these stars here is actually for those campfire blast things they have right now, pure heaven.
Outside of that, the food just isn't up to par in my opinion. The batter on the onion rings and such tastes almost like pancake batter. The burgers are ok, but not spectacular. Maybe it's just lost it's charm, but I really feel like in the Chicago area we have so many spectacular places to eat...this just isn't one of them.
And when I am making an order, and finish it with, "That's all." I'm not sure why you still are asking me if I want Cheese Sticks, Sonic.
Puke.
This place is so disgusting. I can't believe they built one in Bartlett, what a waste.
I have given this place so many chances and it keeps letting me down. The first time I had Sonic was in Panama City Beach, FL where they are basically the McDonald's of Illinois..one on every corner..
I had their Chicken sandwich and it was so dry I couldn't even eat it..at least the fries were good. Then when they built one in my hometown, I decided I would try their burgers..YUCK. Then I decided to try just their onion rings..they are absolutely horrible. They taste like they are dipped in Pancake batter..
So..the food is horrible, but the Sonic Blasts are really good!! Go figure..so if your ever in the mood for ice cream and get sick of going to Dairy Queen, try the Sonic Blasts. You won't be disapointed!
I'm kind of torn about writing this review. Â The first time I went to Sonic was when I lived in San Antonio. It's a good thing they had them everywhere in TX because I LOVE their drinks! Â The food is ok--but their drinks are what had me at "hello". Ice cream slushies, limeades and flavored soft drinks--all so good!
I was so ecstatic in learning they opened the Bartlett location but even though they've been there for several months now, they still can't seem to get their act together. Â Almost every time I've been there they can't seem to get my order right. Â I've even stopped ordering my special cherry limeade because no matter how many times I've described it, they can't make it. (Route 44 Diet Cherry Limeade, no peel, extra cherries) Â So if I'm ever there, it's just the regular diet cherry limeade for me.
But before I'm labeled a "Sonic-Snob" Â I have to say that it's not just the drinks they can't get right. Â Cheeseburger--and I get a regular burger. Â BLT--and they forget to put it in the bag? Â Not sure what's happening in he kitchen... Â
Because of the spotty service I can't go up to 3 stars. Â Their drinks are really what's best. Â When they get it right, they get it right.
So I grew up eating Sonic and was very excited when we got one here in Bartlett. I am so disappointed though. I have been several times and swear each time is my last visit. My order is always wrong. The Ice tea taste horrible every time. My favorite used to be the number 2 burger with mustard but they are always cold and the bun is greased filled its not the way they make them in Missouri. This last time we went my husband got a burger and tots, I got a chicken wrap grilled with diet cherry limeades. My kids got corn dogs and tots and limeades. Â We waited in the drive through like for 15 minutes and they weren't that busy. The tots were still frozen in the middle and my husband has been sick all afternoon. A food inspector needs to make a visit to this Sonic. I swear the lettuce was rotten and who only knows what else.
Review Source:Before the Sonic commercials started here in Chicago we ate at Sonic in Texas so when they opened in Bartlett we just had stop in to reminisce. Much like Texas, the food was all right but its the drinks that keep you coming back.
The Limeade Sonic Chiller (limited time offer) was heaven and the Cherry Limeade was even better. Imagine the best slice of Key Lime Pie you've ever had then put it in a blender and top it with whipped cream, YYUUMM! Now add a little cherry to the blend and OOOooo!
The food wasn't much to write home about but the choice of fries or tator-tots was fun. It's just your basic burgers, chicken sandwiches, and popcorn chicken. The extra long chili cheese dog appealed to the men but not to me. The Wacky Pack® Crew kids meals gave the kids a choice of a burger, grill cheese, chicken strips, or a corn dog along with fries or fruit, juice, milk, soda, or slushies.
Again, it's the drinks we loved. Oceanwater, Limeades, flavored teas, juice slushies, and real fruit slushies... Â then add a flavor to your drink and the combinations are endless.
Like most people in the Chicago area, we've spent years watching (mostly obnoxious) Sonic commercials but been unable to find any within 250 miles. Â One opened in Aurora and recently another opened right by me in Bartlett. Â I had a day off work so I went to have my first Sonic experience.
Overall, it was good. Â The prices are quite reasonable. Â I had a value meal with cheese plus a root beer float for about $6.50. Â This is a good price compared to other restaurants, especially when you consider I had a root beer float.
I ate in the parking lot which was fun.  Drive in restaurants (and theaters!) just rock.  Speed for the service was very acceptable.  Not so fast where I thought the burger was ready to go  when I ordered.  But not too slow to where I became impatient.
The burger was pretty good. Â Nothing out of this world, but it is fast food. Â I didn't expect amazing things. Â The fries were pretty good. Â For the burgers and fries, I preferred Wendy's offerings slightly more. Â But Sonic's is pretty good. Â The root beer float was pretty good as well, but not amazing. Â I grew up on A&W and I don't think this was. Â How bad can a root beer float be? Â They're inherently delicious. Â My biggest complaint is the root beer float didn't come with a spoon to eat some of the ice cream.
On a small note, getting out of the restaurant's parking lot to head north on 59 is challenging. Â I went out on Stearns and would have had to cut across 2 lanes of traffic to get to the left turn lane. Â Instead, I just went down Stearns and turned around.
My Sonic experience was good and I won't hesitate to go again. Â Because they have a relatively diverse menu I'll try something different next time.
So there's finally a closer Sonic to Chicago than Champaign, and it happened to be in my hometown, just 2 minutes from my parents' place. Â My cousins had never been to one, so I treated them to it on a Sunday night. Â Instead of the drive through, I pulled up into a spot for the full Sonic experience. Â We ended up ordering four shakes and a malt.
And it took them over 20 minutes to get it to us.
And, predictably (by that point), they messed up the order. Â Also, our server gave us a bit of attitude when we informed her of the mistake.
The shakes were good, and I've enjoyed Sonic elsewhere before. Â I was even impressed that they use the roller skates here (though our server said she took hers off, no reason given). Â But we were there for at least half an hour for what was supposed to be a quick stop, especially when I was supposed to get my sis home so she could study for exams.
I'll probably give 'em another shot, but for a place that continuously advertises their frozen drinks, you'd think they can crank 'em out faster.
Oh Sonic where have you been all my life? I had my very first Sonic experience over the weekend and it was just what my hangover needed to get my day started.
Three reasons to try Sonic:
1. French toast - those are some big sticks!
2. Tots for breakfast? - yes please!
3. Limeades! - Cranberry Limeade is orgasmic, so tangy and sweet all at the same time
mmm limeade...
A little warning. I recently reviewed a Sonic Drive-in in Algonquin and sang praises about how there was finally a sonic open "near" me since it was only 30 minutes away.
Big news: another Sonic opened up a mere 10 minutes from me. I'm cheating and pretty much reposting my original review from the other location, but the food and atmosphere remains the same since this is a chain, after all. I stopped by on opening weekend for the Bartlett location and the line was literally wound through the parking lot of the adjacent Home Depot. The were doing a really bang-up job with crowd control and traffic direction, so the whole process was pretty painless.
Regardless, on with my repost. The location is the only big difference.
Sonic has been torturing me for years. They've been running TV advertisements in the Chicagoland area as long as I've lived here, but (up until recently) there have only been two Sonics within the 100-mile Chicagoland radius, neither of which were remotely close. The advertisements were always quirky and did a good job of featuring the food, but the star of this show always seemed to be the deserts and specialty drinks.
I should take a moment to clarify, though. I'm no stranger to Sonic. I've had the benefit of living near Sonic Drive-Ins when I lived outside of Chicagoland and had grown to both know and love the half-price-drinks daily happy hour from 2-4. This point only exacerbated my frustration on the constantly running advertisements. I had tasted the goodness that was Sonic previously, but couldn't quench my thirst. I was pretty sure the ad execs at Sonic had it out for me in some sort of Greek God/Tantalus fashion. (Yes, I know I'm reaching with the analogy, but that's what Wikipedia is for). Anyway, Sonic finally provided some relief and has opened a new location less than *10* minutes away from me. Score.
Anyway, back to the main points here. Sonic is a drive-in style restaurant reminiscent of the early days of American fast food. Drive to the restaurant. Find a parking sport. Order from your car. Eat in your car courtesy of the friendly service of a car hop who brings your food to you. (No, not on roller skates.)
Overall, the food is decent. Typical burgers, dogs, chicken sandwiches coupled with fries, tots, or onion rings. It's better than typical McBurgertown fast food, but short of fine dining. I would put it on par with a Steak and Shake.
As I mentioned, the drinks really make the difference for me. Yes, typical sodas are offered, but it doesn't stop there. Sonic maintains a good variety of options in the lemonade/limeade department. Â You also have the option to add flavored syrup to your beverage, leading to such classic combinations as the (not pre-made in the factory) cherry coke, the (not pre-made in the factory) vanilla coke, and my two personal favorites the cherry/vanilla dr. pepper and the cherry limeade.
The best deal in town is from 2-4 when all drinks are half-priced. Go all out and get the Route 44 (44oz) for about $1. You won't be sorry.
