I was visiting my good friend who just moved to Georgia. Â We had one too many glasses of wine at home and didn't feel like cooking so we had her fiance drive us here. Â
The food was OK. but the customer service was HORRIBLE. Â I am clearly a minority in this area... why would you feel that it is ok to come up to OUR table and start telling racist jokes? Really? seriously?! Â Living in CA, i am from a pretty diverse neighborhood and can take a little joking around, but this guy was just off his rocker.
This Sonny's is a regular stop for us on the way to Lake Lanier on Friday night in the summer. Â
It's not a 5 star restaurant - it's a Southern BBQ joint. Â It's not a unique, family run for 3 generations kinda place - it's a chain. Â They aren't 100% consistent - occasionally the staff gets overworked (probably when too many people call in sick) - occasionally the meat is dry or the salad bar needs refilling. Â But 90% of the time this is a great place to grab some good BBQ.
Some BBQ places are known for their pulled (or chopped) pork - some for their sliced pork. Â I think of Sonny's as a sliced kinda place. Â But the baby back ribs are pretty good too.
And summer of 2012 they seem to have gotten much better on the service - I think they have a new manager.
