Balls of FURY!!!!
Came here last week for a company team building event. I had a great time. I will say that the food was just ehh. This would be an awesome place for a first date.
Shout out to the ball guys. I totally think they should wear shirts that say. "I'm here to pick up your Balls"
Loved it, will return with husband in tow to kick some Forest Gump action his way!
If you haven't been to SPiN in a while, you should check out the remodeling they did. The wall at the entrance has been opened up so you don't have to wait to walk around the wall to see what's going on.
The idea of ping pong tables, a full bar and a DJ really appeals to me. It just screams FUN!
They also added a pool table and a dart board for those looking for a little more diversity in entertainment.
The private party rooms look a little more worn, but what do you expect? They're "party" rooms.
Fun place, something different than just a regular bar. I went on a weekday for a work event and from the looks of things they get a lot of work groups (lots o' dockers and biz casual attire going on and ladies, lots of dudes in general).
They had a cooler full of red blue and white red bull, $2 beer & $3 rail mixers, Â and a small appetizer buffet. Wished their food offerings were a lil more adventurous (and vegetarian) but otherwise, Â very friendly staff, Â good music (I remember daft punk and q-tip), & interesting concept. Also, regarding the wi-fi, co-worker noticed wi-fi needed a password for his phone and asked the bartender who provided it so just ask.
Let me start out by saying, I love ping pong so this is probably a slighted review. Â
This is a trendy space with about 20 ping pong tables!! There are several private rooms that would be great for parties, or corporate events.
I want one in Atlanta.. It would do GREAT here. Â Pass that along to the management team :)
How do I feel about ping pong? Â I don't hate it. Â But, I'm also not interested. Â I personally don't care to exercise while I drink. Â I do those activities separately. Â Some might say ping pong is not exercise, and they are wrong.
I think the concept is cool. Â Give people something to do while they knock a few back. Â But, the prices are high and the food is just ok. Â I've been here a few times as for pass-through gatherings (let's all meet here and decide where to go!) or company events. Â It's great for corporate events when someone else is paying!
I do enjoy that there are people walking around with scoops to scoop balls from the floor. Â Word to the wise - watch your step. Â Those balls just roll right under your feet and make you look silly while you try to catch your balance again.
I will say that it's a big roomy space and very comfortable to hang out in, but I don't love it as a place I want to go hang out.
PING PONG BAR! Fun tunes, sports, clean and trendy venue, drinks = recipe for a fun night out on the town! At age 31 I was a tad older than most of the crowd but I had fun. This is a great place to meet with a large group. The ping pong keeps you entertained and isn't too pricey if you split the cost amongst a group.
Review Source:Heading out to Spin really was a fun time and I definitely would head out there again. It's great they have all kinds of drink and food options, and those ball scooper people are the bees knees!!
Why 3 stars?
Reason #1, no one asked if we had been to Spin before or if we know the basics of ping pong. The first server told us we played to 11 points. The ball scooper dude told us 11 is for doubles and for singles it's 21 pts - important missing fact was that you have to win by 2 points so it's not whoever gets to 21 or 11 first. I really feel as though the staff needs some training on how to make sure the guests have the best experience possible. Everyone was nice and corteous, but it shouldn't end there.
Reason #2, we shared an appetizer and asked for extra marinara sauce and ranch dip and the manager/bar tender dinged me each time for 50 cents. I just really think this is flipping ridiculous. I just spent 1.5 hours playing pong, 2 rounds of darts and several beverages, now a snack and you really need to ding me 50 cents??? Not worth it for a business to nickel and dime their customers. His reason was the chef's pushed for it. I asked Mr. Manager who was more important: the chef in the kitchen or your customers? No brainer there. He made up for it by buying me a root beer vodka shot. Was good actually. Hopefully he took our conversation to heart.
Well, there goes your 2 star losses. That being said, it still was a lot of fun.
The bathroom is as sterile as an airport restroom... where's the design?... maybe Susan Sarandon doesn't like bathrooms?? Â Who knows, I don't get it. The whole place looks a bit unfinished if you ask me.
Great fun atmosphere  quality tables, and they are adding a cool bar in the front. I enjoyed the food including appetizers as well as killer burger on a pretzel roll. I just had lunch there and look forward to going there when the front bar opens. They are having a grand opening for  the new bar and I'm going Dec 29.
Review Source:Spin is a very unique place - great for hanging out with a group, or for a private function. I've only ever been here for private events, but they do it up right.
Space - A
It's HUGE! Lots of tables, places to sit and eat, bar seats and even bleachers to watch the action.
Drinks - B
Full bar action, but a premium price as can be expected.
Food: C-
Forgettable at best - do your eating before you get here.
Staff: B
A mixed bag, but generally very pleasant and helpful
Fun: A
Even if you super suck at ping pong ( as I do), Spin is a really fun place to be! There's nothing more fun than watching two corporate guy VP's square off over a game of ping pong.
Bottom line - Spin made my company holiday party actually fun. I didn't think that was possible - so hats off to them!
The idea for SPiN is very smart - an adult game room and bar - and the room looked pretty cool. Â The music keeps you energized and your rousing game of ping pong surely will make you sweat...
Sweat? Â Wait... I don't want to sweat when out with my friends. Â It was so HOT in the darn place. Â Anywho...
I only wish I was better at ping pong because maybe then the high-priced tables and drinks and overwhelming warmth (did I mention it was hot?) wouldn't bother me so much.
Stopped by SPiN for my second time. The rates are pretty reasonable, especially if you can make it before 6pm on a weekday...saves you a few bucks. It's a great place to hang out with friends or go on a date.
The food is ok, but I wouldn't order anything beyond appetizers. I wouldn't suggest going here for a meal. The selection of beers on tap is good. They have one or two exclusive SPiN beers, but I would recommend choosing one of the Sprecher beers available since the SPiN beer I had was comparable to Miller Lite...unless you're into that, then by all means go ahead.
We've had our work holiday party here for the last two years. We reserve 5-6 tables and have a ping pong tournament. I've only been here for the holiday party, so I can not speak to how busy it is in the evening hours. This year, there were only 2-3 people there that were not a part of our group. I enjoyed the unique passtime that is table tennis, but probably would not visit outside of our work party.
Review Source:SPiN's a solid addition to MKE.
Doing something rather than just bellying up to the bar and having four-six drinks? What a novel idea!
Sure, it's a tad on the pricey side, but they do run deals from time to time, which make things more affordable. Their private rooms are great for parties/special functions, and I've only ever had a really great experiences with their staff.
Not sure who heads up the kitchen now, but their food used to be the business back in the day. It very well may still be! (I've not been in probably six or so months.)
In short: ample space, table tennis, good drinks/food, fun in the third ward. Oh... and nevermind the fact that you don't have to worry about your balls - har har - because they've got ball boys/girls to scoop up the errants for you, so you needn't be chasing around like a damn fool everywhere.
Four stars for a unique Milwaukee entertainment option!
My first visit to spin two years ago convinced me never to go back, but recently a career change landed me at SPiN again and although it wasn't love at first sight, it was love. Â This is a great place to bring friends for a unique experience. Â The drinks are a little on the expensive side but the staff is always friendly and the service prompt so I don't mind. Â I haven't tried too many options on the menu but they have some kicking sweet potato chips. Â
Advice, if you want to bring kids go during the day, adults with a tamer crowd go from 7-9 or 10, after that it can get kinda loud if that isn't your thing.
I highly suggest you visit at least once in your lifetime!
What a neat place! Was here for a private party, so can't speak to it outside of that. But Spin is such a unique bar and space. The ping pong is everywhere and you might get hit in the face with a ball. But otherwise, it was a really great unique space that I wish Denver had. The bar staff were responsive and worked the room extremely well. A neat place I never expected to find in Milwaukee.
Review Source:Thank you, Spin, for hosting a stellar private soiree for the folks at Life Navigators. Â We could not have been more pleased on the side of the party attendees. Â The food of mini paninis, chicken skewers, fruit & vegetable platter, mini crostinis with seafood...all wonderful. Â The servers and bartenders were also wonderful. Â Their attention to us was on point. Â They did not allow a glass to be empty or a dirty plate remain. Â The facilities are perfect for a gathering that includes minglers, loungers, and ping-pong aficionados. Â There is something for everyone. Â I highly recommend the private rooms and the great staff at Spin for your next corporate or special event. Â I will definitely keep them in my black book of venues in case I am in need of a fun and tasty spot to host a shindig.
Review Source:Loved the idea of drinking + exercising all at once!! Despite the fact that SPiN is a bit pricey (for me), I love this place and always want to come back when I visit Milwaukee. I can come here during the day for a nice fun exercise or come at night to drink while exercise those calories away!
SPiN is this huge room with dozens of ping pong tables and a bar in the far back of the room. All you do is you reserve a ping pong table, pay by the minute, and they will hand you a handful of ping pongs in a basket. The best part of this place is being able to drink while you play, getting some exercise out of the way, and never having to pick up ping pongs because someone else will do it for you!
I have been meaning to stop in to Spin for a while now. Â I got the opportunity to go for a fundraiser recently. Â
My donation included a few tables for us to use, food and a cash bar. Â
I guess I just wasn't that impressed. Â The first thing was that I was at a fundraiser event and wanted to tell everyone that I was there. Â But, I got absolutely no phone service and the WiFi inside was locked. Â They also seemed to either have the heat on or not have enough ventilation in the place. Â For a bar where I am suppose to be playing table tennis, I don't need it to be 75 degrees inside. Â The drinks also seemed to be quite pricey. Â For a single Gin and Tonic and a Strongbow I paid $14. Â I certainly don't like table tennis enough to hang out and pay that price for drinks. Â Unfortunately the food that was supplied for the fundraiser was all fried bar food and sliders, none of which I can eat so I can't comment on the food.
Honestly, can't say I will be in a hurry to go back. Â Just not my kind of place.
We went here for a band and all the pong tables were gone so we never saw that. The only reason it got two stars was because it was a cool place. Â SUPER expensive. Â $7 for a whiskey sour (little one) and $8 for a DISGUSTING Redbull vodka. Â We also had a pitcher, $12 for their cheapest. The service was horrible, it took 15 mins for my guy friends to get their drinks and about 10 for the girls... We left early because of this. Never again.
Review Source:When I walked into the room with all the tables my jaw was on the floor. Â
Such an absolutely genius business idea - I want to open one in Boston! Â
If there wasn't someone walking around refilling your bucket of balls so you don't have to worry about errant shots flying around the giant room it would be 3 stars but the fact you can get excellent drinks by friendly staff with no care in the world for how crazy your aim is...brilliant.
Will definitely be back anytime I'm in NYC or Milwaukee.
I had fun at SPIN. Â PING PONG! Â I think it's an ok place to go with friends. Â It is expensive so better to go with a group. Â $25 an hour for a table. Â I thought it was ok though for a night of fun! Â Call ahead and make a reservation which we did and had a 5-10 minute wait at around 9pm I believe. Â Staff was friendly. Â
I didn't eat, only had drinks which were great!
It's a retro, casual place to have fun for a night out! Â I would go again. Â You get your table and a bucket, yes a bucket of balls! Â They are everywhere. Â No more running around chasing that ball you missed. Â You can enter tournament play if you like in the center of the place. Â Or you can watch the professionals. Â It's a good laugh and a good time. Â Everyone should do it once and see for yourself! Â Just go with a group and split the costs for an hour and then move on to everything else MKE has to offer. Â It's a little loud at night so not much serious conversation can be had but who wants a serious conversation all the time right? Â Sometimes it's nice just to have fun!!!
I love SPiN, I really do and I'd give them 5 stars if it was more affordable. As un-Milwaukeean as this will sound, I get bored just sitting on a bar stool so any opportunity to add an activity to my drinking in a big plus. SPiN definitely does this.
The good: The place is a good size and the tables aren't so close together that you're effecting anyone else's game. The big plus is that you don't have to shag your own balls. They give you a bucket of balls and then people go around with large nets gathering all the pingpong balls off the floor. They have a decent beer selection, with Sprecher products on tap and the service has always been friendly.
The bad: the restaurant isn't very good (albeit, I haven't eaten there in awhile) and like another reviewer said, after 6pm it's $24/hr for a table if you're not a member. (Better bet is to go on the weekend, before 6pm when it's "only" $16/hr). It's also $4 for a bottle of Miller Lite. The price is what keeps me from going to SPiN more often, but as an alternative for something to do, it's nice to have in the city.
I love the SPiN concept. However, was disappointed in SPiN for the following reason:
$24 an hour for a table. Ouch. I should also mention that the wait time was over 2 hours. Okay, so for a big group of people, maybe pretty awesome, if you make a reservation or are willing to wait around. But for our group of 4, this price made no sense. My parents own a ping pong table, and I can go and play that for as many hours as my heart desires for free! Also, I hear that the UWM union offers ping pong at $3/hour.
So, cool concept, super expensive.
Who is the genius behind this? Susan Sarandon! (clap*clap*)
It 's the second summer I'd been to Milwaukee and decided to put this on my hit list. Besides, a friend of mine is a frequent DJ at this place- even better.
There was an ongoing tourney when we showed up. It kinda reminded me of the movie "dodge ball". The players looked fierce and ready to kick butt, but with..... a table tennis racket. These guys had mad skills. If that was me, I'd be ducking and running away from their wicked hits...
My boyfriend & I decided to play ping pong while waiting for the rest of our friends. It was fun - Â dodging the balls. (I remember doing well in table tennis class, but that was 15 years ago) Â Oh, age deteriorates...
A wonderful place to bring your group of friends for drinks and test yo skillz at ping pong. It gets better later in the night (after your several shots of patron and jaegger- ugh.)
Great atmosphere, vibrant and fun crowd, and bumpin' music (Thanks J. Cababa) makes this tennis social club an awesome experience.
Spinderella Cut it up one time!
Went to Spin last Friday as my friend had reserved one of their ping pong tables for an hour. IT WAS A BLAST. I sucked of course, but that's not the point. I'll tell you why:
1) You know how normally when you play ping pong there's only like 3 or 4 balls and because you suck you're constantly spending most of your playing time chasing the damn things around the basement as they ricochete like crazy off anything they come into contact with? You don't have to do that here. You get a gigantic bucket of balls right at your table that gets constantly replenished by the professional "ping pong ballers". (I'm not sure that's their actual title).
2) The paddles are new and in good condition. Not those outdated, chipped pieces of junk that your friends inevitably drew patterns on with blue ballpoint pen. Why on earth do they do that? Was that a thing in the 70's?
3) The floor is one of those professional grade squishy athletic floors. Not that I was doing high impact moves but in case I do, I'm covered, that's reassuring.
4) The nets are taut. Not those sagging excuses for nets at your friends parents basement.
There is a full bar but it is also a very family friendly place with non-alcoholic cocktails the kids can enjoy. There is a main table in the middle of the floor that is super duper spotlight lit with a scorekeeper and everything. I aspire to play at that table, I just gotta practice more.
The only complaint I had was the lighting made it difficult to see the balls. Not that when I could see them I could hit them anyway. I spent the night flailing my arms, paddle in hand, laughing my ass off at how ridiculous we looked. I would go back in a heartbeat.
My first trip to SPiN Miwaukee was a little confusing. Â When you walk in, there is a gigantic wall that greets you. Â I didn't know which way to go! Â There are no signs... so I walked over to the "reservation desk". Â I was like "ummm...what's the deal?" Â The front desk lady explained that the bar was around the giant wall. Â She said they had ping pong tables around the corner also. Â Funny thing, she never asked us if we wanted to play. Â I guess she could tell that I needed a drink a.s.a.p. Â :)
As we walked around the gigantic wall, I was a little thrown off. Â I thought the ping pong would be seperate from the bar. Â Nope. Â It's right in the middle of the floor. Â So you can drink and watch. Â Not to mention the fact that every 5 minutes or so we would get hit with flying ping pong ball...
The drink menu was great. Â Lots of original drinks. Â One of my favorite was the "Sucker Punch". Â It comes with a lollipop. I think it was $8.00. Â
The bartenders were very friendly. Â They had great customer service. Â I really appreciated that. Â One of them even called me by my first name which impressed me... but then I realized that my name was on my sweatshirt! Â :)
They have an extensive menu as well. They serve food until MIDNIGHT. Â Whoa. Â Everything on the menu. Â I couldn't believe it. Â We got potato skins and a duck salad. Â Both were great. Â The prices were reasonable also.
One of the things that I picked up on was the lighting. Â It's constantly changing. Â Not sure if it's a subliminal thing or not. Â But when the room turned more "orangy" it made me think of sunshine. Â And it actually made me happy. Â Which made me want to have another drink. Â So take note SPiN Milwaukee... your subliminal lighting worked on me. :)
I didn't want to like SPiN. Â How could something as lame as ping-pong survive in this bowling town? I had to find out. Â
We walked in to be greeted by a young, hot hostess who was very friendly. Â The lobby was bright and shiny and filled with glass cases full of ping-pong stuff. Â There was still that sort of new car like smell hanging in the air, or maybe it was because of all the ping-pong tables, not quite sure.
We sat at one of the tables in the little dining area. The bar was long and the room was very wide open, it was perfect for the sport. Â The waiter took our order and we started with the chips and salsa (three different bowls of yummy stuff to dip the thin, crispy chips in) and the artichoke dip. They were both fantastic. Â
I ordered a reuben sandwich and it was delivered with a side of cole slaw. Â The sandwich was excellent. Â The bread was grilled nicely with just the right amount of 1,000 island dressing, it wasn't dripping in it which made it perfect. There was a nice amount of lean corned beef. Â I liked that the sandwich was made for normal human consumption, not oversized to the point where half would get soggy in a to-go bag. Â It was the right amount of food at a fair price.
The ping-pong tables were obviously the main attraction and it was really cool how the tables were set up with individual bleachers to sit on and little tables all around so you could eat while you played or watched a game. Everything was bright, clean and shiny and the room had an energy that reflected its theme. Â I can see going back on a rainy summer day for lunch and ping-pong or anytime in the winter for some dinner and some fun.
This place ROCKS! I got a Groupon awhile back and my family was coming into town--this was a perfect thing to do! The space is SUPER cool and the ping pong was such a fun activity to do with family. We had 5 people total and so we rotated in a person playing 4 people at a time. We didn't try the food so I can't comment on that but the service, atmosphere and fun were 5 stars!
What is great about this place is it's good for groups of all ages--teenagers to senior citizens. The music was not too loud so we could all talk and I know my Mom appreciated that. I would highly recommend this place to take out of towners because it is certainly impressive that Milwaukee has such a cool place like Spin.
We took our college aged niece and boyfriend out to dinner here, along with our 6 year old daughter. We had a blast! We rented a table for 1.5 hours and had drinks and dinner at the table. Our daughter had a blast chasing down (lots of) stray ping-pong balls and trying to get the hang of hitting a ball or two.
Between the five of us, we had the duck salad, chili, pear salad, steak sandwhich, BLT and veggie burger. Everyone really loved their food. My favorite was my duck salad. It had a nice, light oil-based dressing and very tender, juicy duck over fresh baby spinach and a hard boiled egg. I wouldn't change a thing. Everyone loved the french fries and the sweet potato chips. The chili was a healthy portion served with shredded cheese, onions and sour cream on the side (all the necessities).
Service was good. We'll be back (at least that's what the 6 year old said).
(One weird thing.... There was a Sweet Sixteen party going on with tons and tons of teenagers (perhaps 100??) roaming around in and out of the private room. Many were dressed liked they were going to or from an eighth grade dance. It was weird. It made me feel old.... :-( )
GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS: Great salads, sweet potato chips (likely fried in shared oil, though), chili!
Upon walking in I was amazed that Ping Pong could provide enough revenue to support a place like this. Â They really did a great job with the concept and design.
We went as a group (12-16) for a birthday party and had two tables reserved for two hours. Â We probably had too many people for the number of tables but we still had a great time. Â They actually have 'ball boys' that go around and pick up loose balls with a net and put them into a pail next to your table--so don't worry about chasing balls around...its expected that you will get hit by one when you're a bystander!
When not playing we enjoyed watching the main 'stadium table' lined with bleachers where two players had to play each other with different objects for paddles (frying pan, tennis racquet, book, and even a large ball). Â It made for good fun when not giving our own friends a hard time.
We were all surprised at how busy it was and that the crowd was a nice young professional group. Â Overall it was a blast. Â We'll definitely be back.
I went here for a group outing, and I must say it was a real eye opener into the world of ping pong. Â I felt like I was immediately immersed in a personal "Balls of Fury". Â The event had a challenge that if you could return two out of five of the champion's serves, you'd get a free drink. Â Of course only a couple people succeeeded, but it was funny.
The venue features a main room with thirteen top of the line tables and one center court table. Â It has a very loungy feel, and they have live music playing in the back. Â The bar was well sized, and the service was quick. Â
Our event was in a side room with 4 separate tables where we could play for free. Â The tables in the main room require a fee, and I'm not sure how much it is.
The alcohol is on the pricey side, as a bottle of Blue Moon was five dollars. Â I didn't have the food, but my friend said that the chicken tenders were just so-so.
If you're looking to go somewhere unlike anywhere else and like ping pong, then this is the place for you.
I honestly had *no* idea what to expect when coming here. The concept is new to the Milwaukee area - and on a Saturday around 8:30pm the place was packed with people of all ages, from small kids to seniors.
Not sure the prices to reserve a table - but there is a "reservation" desk when you walk in, and you can't really see the place at all, as it's entirely blocked off by a huge giant wall. So turning the corner is kind of like your first step into a scary haunted house or something... (okay that analogy was a stretch).
Bright lights, mini bleachers, a center court, and people in track pants/sweat bands were the first things I noticed - with a bar in back. There was a dining area in the back with tables, along with a dining area in front, blocked off by the big wall (would NOT want to eat completely isolated from everything but the reservation desk).
It was very busy and the bartenders did their best. The food menu ranged from sliders and chicken tenders to several types of sandwiches with sweet potato chips, fries, or slaw.
As much as it tries to stretch between PingPong and Bar/Lounge, I think the decor/setup needs to change. There was a private (?) area behind a curtain that looked more upscale/lounge-y looking, now I wanted to go in THERE to drink and play pong!
