Can not say enough good things about Splash!

Made a reservation for eight of us for a friend's birthday.  Marla, the owner, was very helpful in making the reservation.  When we arrived, our seats were all reserved together for us.

The staff at Splash make the entire experience as easy as possible for you- they give you instructions when you check-in, your supplies are all set up for you and the directions for how much/what color paint is all hanging above the paint bar. Service was awesome- whether it was at check-in, the bar or the painting instructor.  The instructor made you feel very at ease (even though I have no painting experience).

Definitely an upbeat environment.  Had great tunes playing the whole time (music would be turned down when the instructor was talking).  The set-up of the class really encourages it to be a social setting more than learning.

One of the best perks?  It's a no-tip bar... so when you pay with credit card, there isn't even a tip-line.  :)

Really can't wait to go back!

I have been to a painting studio before but this was our first time at Splash and I will not be back. It was so loud you couldn't hear the instructor. The music was loud and they did not turn it down enough to hear him over the INCREDIBLY loud group behind us. The instructor didn't do a very good job of teaching to the people that were not right in front of him. He never came around to see if we needed help. The work stations were so close together it felt like you were on top of the person next to you. A few times we had to wait to paint the side closest to the other person. There wasn't a lot of room for the people wandering in off the street to walk without bumping into you.  I sat next to two first time painters and they said they would not be back either. I recommended they go to the other place that I've been to. It is much easier to hear the instructor and you don't feel as cramped.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said--an awesome experience! Go!

I wasn't kidding when I said I would be back soon and often.

Excellence was experienced once again. The session I attended had a different artist leading the instruction and she was great. She was very helpful and generous with her encouragement and assistance to those who wanted it.

The staff at the counter were also just as wonderful as last time, not that I expected anything less.

Every morning I wake up and look to the ceiling of my bedroom.  About four inches from the ceiling light, there is a little patch where, over 7 years ago, i missed when I was painting the ceiling.  I can't even paint ceilings without messing up...how the heck am i going to complete a real life painting!?  A southwestern landscape no less!?

How?  How am I going to accomplish this feat?  By following the directions and inspiration of the staff and artists at Splash Studio--a painting bar.  Yes, you really do drink and paint!

Great staff.  super friendly.  I love the music and Mario Brothers.  I took the warp to level 4.

Went here with a group of sorority alumnae to celebrate our art appreciation month and really had a good time. Our picture was of the art museum, which seems intimidating, but our "teacher" was a MIAD student and she did a great job of breaking it down and making it easy to accomplish. The addition of a glass or two of wine helped loosen us up and help make us less self-conscious. There was music playing, they told us to bring snacks and there were times we paused to let the paint dry where we could chat and hang out. It was a great event for a group and well worth the cost. We had a great time and I'd recommend it to anyone.

My only regret is that I did not check this place out sooner.

In an effort to mix up the dinner rotation with fun and local activities, Splash made the list of places to visit in 2013. Splash has a rotation of projects to choose from. You can make reservations via their website and stop in for artist led instruction with all of your supplies (canvas, paints, aprons, etc.) included. They also have a bar and 8-bit Nintendo for your other entertainment needs.

I should also mention that they are a no-tip bar. If you enjoy your service, all they ask is for you to share your experience with friends, like them on Facebook or give a shout out via your other favorite social media outlets. With that being said, I am more than happy to share my experience here.

Whether a skilled artist or for someone who has never painted before, Splash walks you through every step of the way or offers the creative latitude to paint what you want. They just want you to enjoy yourself and take home a piece you are happy with.

My night at Splash was one of the best nights I've had in a long time. It has been way too long since I painted last and it really inspired me to try it more often to break up the day-to-day routine. Be daring! Try something new and check out Splash today.

Fun Fact: Not interested in a big project or just want to check them out? Splash offered $10 and $20 mini-canvas paintings at the bar if you are in the Third Ward and want to stop in for a beverage and a break.

Oh my God, what a fun place!   If you are ever sitting around with your friends, boy/girlfriend, or family and your wondering "what are we going to do tonight?" and you can only come up with... bar, dinner, or movie.  Oh no!   Don't worry, your life doesn't have to suck.  Don't think, has "my life become boring, and why can't I do more fun great things at cool places???"

Look no further than Splash to relieve you from the duldrums and routine, because this place is absolutely different and exceptional.

    There are two options....
    1) Stop in without a reservation for "mini-painting", but MAKE SURE there isn't a private corporate event that night, because they do a lot of these.
    2) Sign up for a class and learn how to paint.  Haven't done this, but nothing will stop me because this looks like a lot of fun.

Myself and my company were both in a funky mood when we came in, but both left in high spirits and much better than when we went in.  Was this what they call ART THERAPY???  Maybe they slipped some Prozac and Xanax into my Jack and Coke.  I have no other explanation.

The music they play in upbeat, sing-along-able, and keeps the paintbrushes happy.

    I will be back.

GREAT date place.  It is places like this, Spin, and Koz's that keep great date nights alive and well in the greater MKE area.

Three cheers for Splash.  Fellow Yelpers, keep this place in business.

p.s.  You can even play the original Nintendo version of Super Mario Bros at the bar.  A little kitcschy, but I liked the touch.

Super fun way to get creative while drinking. What could be better?

So many things to thumbs up here:

    - The staff. AWe-some. So friendly. We walked in and they greeted us with genuine enthusiasm. Lots of encouraging "looking great!" comments throughout the painting process. They make sure you always have a drink in hand. And they do all this for NO TIPS. I wanted to tip them so bad, but they're a "no tip" bar, so no pressure to. Love that they worked their tails off regardless. And they take lots of pictures so you can check your artsy ass out on Facebook later.

    - The experience. I took a drawing class in college but the last time I painted was when I was about 12 and I got a paint set for Christmas. So my skills are limited, to say the least. No matter. The instructor (the person who originally painted the picture featured at that session. They teach you step-by-step how to go through and paint it yourself) was so nice. The painting we did was difficult, but not impossible. The instructor is so nice and takes you through and walks around and gives you tips along the way. Everyone has their own style and interpretation, and it's fun to walk around during the breaks and check out others' paintings. Very communal, supportive atmosphere.

    - the amenities. You get plenty of paint, smocks, brushes, a canvas, an easel, the whole she-bang. And they clean it all up for you! Amazing.

    - the music. Something I did not expect but so made the experience more fun: poppy, bumping music making it seem like a party. They turn it down when the instructor is giving her steps, but then crank it back up for painting mode. Think Katy Perry and Bruno Mars. Toe tapping fun.

And at about $28 a person, a great experience for a decent price. Will definitely be going back!

I went here last night with a crew of 6 people for a birthday party.  There weren't too many other people there, which was nice because we had the entire bar and the artist's attention pretty much entirely to ourselves.

The staff was very nice and friendly.  The drinks and the service were both priced very reasonably.  They have an original nintendo system for people to play if you waiting for your paint to dry.

It was a unique and fun experience and I would definitely do it again

Great place for a party!  Owner is great to work with, very friendly and accomodiating to any requests, even changing up paintings.  Even the non-artistic types can feel comfortable coming in and learning some techniques and going home with a cute creation.

They have open painting times where you can drop in and do a small canvas for $10.  The website also has a schedule of particular paintings on certain dates w/the price for that day (depends on size/type of paints used).  There's also an option to do 3 hour private parties (minimum 15 maximum 50) for around $28/person (with $100 deposit).

Full bar w/snack mix.  Private parties you can create your own signature drinks.  You can bring in your own food.  There's a cute cafe seating area up front to take a break and eat while a part of your painting is drying.

Hello, they have old school Nintendo...  if you save the princess in Mario you get a free t-shirt!  Bar has a no tipping policy, which is nice.  Employees are paid a fair wage!  They also take lots of photos of your party and put on their facebook page.

Teachers are great, local artists.  They also do commissioned paintings and have art for sale in the studio.  They show several versions of the painting they are teaching and show the techniques used for each effect.  Even a novice like myself could follow along.  But it really makes me have a better appreciation for the art galleries I love visiting!

My daughter booked a group event for her coworkers and invited me along.   I walked in and was greeted by staff that was friendly and helpful.  We all ordered drinks and perused the art on the walls (which was all painted by the staff and for sale). We were instructed to get an apron and a palette. The painting of the night was a field of poppies and there was a menu board with instructions as to how much of each color paint to put on our palettes.

Then we chose a seat that had a blank canvas in front of us, 4 different sized paint brushes and some water to clean and dilute the paint. The instructor taught us how to paint the sky and the grass then we took a break and at pizza (and more drinks) while the canvas dried.

We got back to painting the clouds and then the trees.  We then took another little break to let it dry some more.  We finished with painting the poppies and blades of grass.

The event started at 5 and we were done around 8.  It was a fun way to spend an evening - both socially and creatively.  I can't wait to do it again.

I had a great time at Splash while on a date. I would highly suggest it as a place to go on a date. The staff was very friendly and would check on us once in a while. They offer classes, but we painted mini canvasses on our own ($10 each). The building itself is warm and inviting with beautiful paintings on the walls, some of which you can purchase.

My only complaint is that they claim to be a bar, yet they mostly serve bottled beers. If I ever come here with my girlfriends, I would order a bottle of wine to share. They also cranked up the music after the classes so it got a little too loud for conversation.

Tried Splash Studio last month with a group of friends and thought it was great! Took my mom for a birthday painting and the experience was consistent: very nice way to spend a few hours doing an activity with family/friends while learning how to paint a little :)

The studio space is accommodating, both instructors were very good, friendly staff, a bar if you want to have a drink, and excellent background music playlist.

    For $28 bucks, I'm hooked.

Had a blast! Came here as a day activity for a Bachelorette Party and everyone had a great time!  Doesn't matter if you've painted for years or never picked up a paint brush, everyone will have fun! Our artist Natalie was amazing and super friendly.  Definitely recommend this place for a fun group activity or even a date night.

Since no one with the Bachelorette Party was from Milwaukee, Natalie wrote out a detailed list of places to go and things to do in the city.  We took her recommendations and really enjoyed the weekend in Milwaukee because of her suggestions!

What a great concept!  Art and alcohol!  Win win!  I was recently visiting Milwaukee and decided to check this place out on a friend's suggestion.  I've been to a couple other versions of this concept (none of which had a bar) in other states, but Splash Studio was by far the best experience!

Splash plays lively music, has a large bar and has very caring and dedicated employees and owners.  Let's not forget that they have an 8-bit Nintendo set up at the bar!  Ladies, feel free to drag your man along and let him drink at the bar while stomping on goombas while you paint your heart out!

I'll definitely be back whenever my travels take me through Milwaukee in the future!

My wife and I wandered into this bar while shopping in the third ward- a nice shopping district of bars, galleries and shops.

Our server immediately helped us and explained the concept: have a drink and paint a painting. Kind of like a paint your own pottery place with immediate gratification and booze. They have artist led events in the evening, but during the day we just painted our own small canvasses. There are plenty of art books to peruse for inspiration, and there are also paintings for sale, I assume from the artists who lead the evening events.

The staff was really nice, and the beer selection was good including lots of local choices. We liked this place a lot, and it was a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.

One suggestion would be to have some objects to paint in still life- e.g. fruit, skull, wine bottle, whatever. There were some books, but I was looking for more inspiration.

My wife and I went to Splash last night for our anniversary. It was our first visit here but my wife had been to other similar places in the past. We got there about 10 min early and were greeted by the artist of the night, Beki, and were helped by one of the owners. We left an open tab for our session and drinks. They are a no tipping establishment so there was no pressure. The owners and the artist were all extremely friendly, nice, and helpful. Splash has a nice selection of beer and wine to order and we had 4 drinks throughout the night. The painting started at 7. We painted an island landscape that was inspired by Beki's honeymoon trip to the Virgin Islands. Everything was very laid back and casual. Neither my wife nor myself are artists at all and it was a blast. Beki walked us step by step through each process, encouraging us to deviate and customize to our own liking (my wife made hers a sunset scene and I added a volcano to mine). Between steps Beki walked through and was always available for help and advice (and complements too!). The session lasted about 2:45 but we were invited to stay as long as we like to finish or fix our paintings. Also, Beki was there to help fix if you aren't satisfied with your painting. Definitely recommend for a date night or just for fun. Last night, we were one of three couples and there was also a group of 6 ladies. Get to Splash and go drink and paint!
