Came here to watch the Silva/Weidman fight in July.
ENVIRONMENT: Love the look of this place. A clean, family friendly sports bar. There are TVs within viewable distance in every seat in the place. Even has video games for people not wanting to watch tv. There also is plenty of good looking women here...I haven't even seen an ugly waitress here yet.
SERVICE: It is a little hard to criticize since I came here when the place was really busy. But none-the-less...I ordered onion rings and poppers. I haven't received them for almost half an hour at which point I asked my waitress. She did not realized it hasn't been delivered and went back to the kitchen to check only to find out the order wasn't put in. My apps came after 5 minutes of waiting after that and it came straight out of the fryers. I had no problems with service after that.
FOOD: Best wings I have found so far in South Miami. I love their Dale style wings which is a combination of their Special grilled wings with their Miami Heat sauce. After 20 wings, onion rings, and poppers, plus mass amounts of alcohol, if I could possibly conceive on eating more wings I would have.
So I walked in (for the 2nd time ever) to see if they had a pool table and aside from the fact that they didn't, I just can't bring myself to like this place! It's Steak and Ale with the Sports Grill name...it just doesn't feel right. Oh well, there's always take out when that wing craving hits!
Review Source:STAY AWAY!! Â THE FOOD AND SERVICE ARE HORRIBLE. Â The chicken fingers were terrible. Â Looked like they purchased frozen ones from Costco then dumped then in a fryer to heat and serve. Â The waffle fries were way too greasy and hard. Â The waiter hardly came by and when he did wasnt too friendly.
Review Source:Service is hit or miss - sometimes they're on point, other times I have to ask for vital parts of my meal repeatedly before they show up on the table. I'm sure their onion rings would be delicious, if I could get them while they're still hot, as opposed to lukewarm and soggy. Blackened dolphin is always a good way to go, btw. In a wrap or in a sandwich, it's consistently yummy!
Review Source:Walk in and soak in those majestic flavorss.... this is one of my favorite wing joints in the MIA - it's a great time from the minute you walk in the door. music on blast, sports on tv, violent fans all around you - you might say it's better than being at the game!
You've got to try the special grilled or the teriyaki wings! things are packin' flavor for days, you won't be disappointed.... brings some friends and get a pitcher - you're bound to get some choice words in :).... the blackened dolphin is also breakin necks on the street if you want to try something different..... stop by and tell them the bull sent you.... they will have no idea what you're talking about. cheers!
Folks, I had forgotten to update my original post, and We have been back at least 4 or 5 times since then.
Most thursday nites (call ahead just to make sure) its Jazz Nite at the room next to the Bar.
Awesome live music, local musicians, old and young alike. Great talent for $ zero cover charge.
Yep...just pay for your food and drinks the Jazz Nites are on the house, and they're splendid !!!
I came here to meet up with friends and watch some college football. It was monday night and it was "In the Biz" so drinks were half off for those people but only during the game. Basically I ordered two Bud Lights drafts and four shots at the bar and the bill came out to $6. But when I went to order a pitcher of beer during half-time, they weren't doing the 50% off for In the Biz BECAUSE it was half time. I thought that was pretty ridiculous. Anyway, this place is only good for cheap drinks and to watch a sporting event since it's gonna be packed everywhere else.
Review Source:Special Grill wings...enough said! I am soooo happy this place opened just a few block from my job because it is very convenient to call and pick up after a 12 hr shift some yummy wings.
I do not dig too much the church pews...lol but the way it is set up has grown on me. The servers always take good care of me, especially when they see me in uniform... -- that is greatly appreciated. Please do not expect to walk into some fancy sports bar...this is NOT that kind of place.
It is more of a "let's go catch the game in our bummy clothes and relax" type of atmosphere, and don't even shake your head because we can ALL use a little bit of that sometimes.
So...get your wings and enjoy the night.
Went in for lunch with the wife and kid a couple of weeks ago, and had the best lunch I've had in a long time.
I don't know what the other Sports Grill looks like, but I dig the way this location has the separate rooms, which allow just the right amount of privacy. Service was very friendly.
We had a coupon from http://restaurant.com, which requires you order $50 worth of food first so you can get a $25 discount. Needless to say this was a fried and grilled food extravaganza. We tried two appetizers, two types of wings, two cheeseburgers, fries, and a dessert.
The fish spread nachos were warm chips with a side of smoked fish spread: Meh. Not what I was expecting, but okay. The garlic mushrooms were battered shrooms with garlic dipping sauce: again, not what I imagined, but fair enough. Then came the cheeseburger. Holy Moly!!
This thing was obscene. Char-grilled to perfection, warm bun, and fresh, snappy toppings, all on a bed of fries.
The garlic wings were a bit greasy, but not bad. But what this place is known for is the special grilled wings. They were above par. The worcestershire, the special sauce, the flavor of the hot grill. You could tell someone took the time to season and grill these beauties just right. Â These days that's a rare privilege. Â
We'll be back!
Great wings if you get the "Special grill" or the spicy version of them "Dale's" wings. They are The Bomb.
Service is okay, as is the atmosphere. The place is a little divey but tolerable. To her credit the server had to do it all because there was no bar tender or other staff to help her.
I only had time to check them out the one time, but I would go back again for the wings.
If you often go out to eat with a large group ranging from 10-20 people who aren't looking to spend a lot of money, your best bet would be to go to this Sports grill. It's got a ton of seating!!! I've gone numerous times with groups of ten or more and have never waited more than 5 minutes to be seated.
The wings are great! A good size, juicy with a hint of spice. My husband and I get the special grilled wings. Â (Dipped first in their Sports Grill Sauce, then charbroiled and lightly washed with worcestershire) We also are fans of the Philly Sports Steak, the cheese fries and the onion rings (that come with a homemade chipotle sauce).
The customer service has always been excellent too! The waiters have always been polite, fast and able to separate checks without complaining. They also have good sized tv's on almost every wall! A great place to watch a game, but be sure to get there early!
Overall, Sports grill serves good food at a good price and accommodates their guests!
Riding on my bar food high from Titanic, a few days later after a excruciatingly long day at the office, I decided to try Sports Grill. Â It was in the area and I liked the whole cottage look from the outside, "why not?" I told my boyfriend after he suggested it.
Walking in my first thought was "oh this is cute",
my second thought "whats up with these pews?"
third thought "wow...its so loud in here!".
This really is a sports bar, not a pub not an upscale gastropub. Â Its a sports bar, a college sports bar. Â That means if you mistakenly order the spinach dip, like we did, it comes out in a styrofoam bowl. Ewwww!
Wine, red or white, no labeling necessary. Â And the food, well you can conclude that it all came from the inside of a deep freezer.
Watched the Heat game with a few friends here the other night. $7 pitcher of beer and $4 cheese sticks is enough to get 3 stars from me. Place is very dumpy on the inside, but its a sports grill. what did you expect? Makoto? of course not.
Food was fine, beer was cheap, place was crowded and noisy, but its a sports bar. and it was more than adequate!
I had done a promotion here for Miller Lite a few days ago and like any other Sports Grill, it was loud, crowded and full of KBD (Key Beer Drinkers.) There is no better way to get a crowds attention then to give them free Miller Lite and that is exactly what I did. The atmosphere at this Sports Grill is a bit livelier and it did help that there was a Heat game on. Besides the laid back vibe, the employees are pretty friendly and assisted me with anything I needed.
At the end of the promotion the bar manager let's just say completely hooked it up. The wings were pretty tasty, I opted for the juicy special grilled and garlic wings. The garlic wings were alright, but the special grilled wings never disappoint.
Another great feature at this Sports Grill is the open terrace outside the restaurant. This is a great spot if you're looking to eat outside and get away from the noisy bar. This Sports Grill is definitely my favorite out of the three.
I am a huge Sports Grill freak! I love wi he and beer, I will eat wi.he even if I'm not hungry. I have been to every Sports grill and in my opinion this is the worst one. I don't like how the entire place is section off, you can hide here if you really want to. The bar is real small, but they do have a full bar, most grills serve only beer and wine. I ordered the infamous wings and well they tasted like honey picks. I mean I think the wings were older than my friend 3 month old baby. It was heart breaking most Sports grilled are very consistent with their food. Despite the aging wings the service was pretty poor as well. If you want wings just go to the original one on sunset or the one on bird.
Review Source:I ate here sober, I guess that was my mistake. I got a burger here, it ended up looking like one of those frozen burgers you buy at publix in bulk one of those months your rent check might bounce. The burgers by default come with chips which is weird but not a big deal. The biggest issue was that it came with NOTHING to go with it... just meat and buns and your choice of ketchup or mustard. I will try coming back here at some point for the drink specials and maybe if I get drunk enough I can gather up enough courage to try the food again.
They have a Monday-Friday 4-7 Happy Hour with $2 Pints of Domestic and $7.79 Pitchers of domestic. They also advertised a late night happy hour from 9pm to close with the specials.
Even though I've lived in Miami for most of my life, I've never been to one of the Sports Grills. Partly because my parents never really watch sports (until my sister got into UF that is) and they don't care much for bar food.
I, on the other hand, have far more varied tastes when it comes to food.
Unfortunately the Sports Grill isn't a place for varied tastes.
The whole place feels off. You walk into what appears to be a large house, with the bar up front and all these small rooms that seat 9-10 tables as well as an arcade. Right off the back, you have an atmosphere that's a bit like Flannigan's mixed with Betty's Best Burgers. Except the food is better at both of those places.
I ended up going with the half-rack of Baby Back Ribs with cole slaw and sweet potato fries. The ribs were good, with the meat falling off the bones and the standard sauce nice and sweet (if you want it hot, there is hot sauce on the tables, which is a nice touch). The slaw was abysmal and the fries were only ok. My friend went with his staple: the chicken parm sandwich. I was impressed as it was a whole grilled chicken breast that the bun couldn't contain. I probably should have gotten wings, as their selection seems decent.
I will say the service was top notch. Our room had a rotation of 4 servers constantly meeting the needs of the clientele. If we needed anything, we didn't have to wait.
With choices like the Ale House, Flannigan's and Titanic, there are plenty of the sports bar restaurants in the area that have superior food and atmosphere. If you're looking for something for the family or large groups, this isn't a bad spot, but I have my preferences already.
I'll admit that I am more than happy to have a sports bar that I can ride my bike to. Â I am NOT so happy that it is a Family Restaurant. Â In comparison with the Sports Grill on Sunset Drive, there is just too much kid action going on there.
The first time we went there, the intention was to get plastered beyond conciousness. Â The waitress sat us next to a family of five, including a stroller. Â I was thrown. Â There are free standing video games everywhere.
I felt like I was in a sleazy Chuckie Cheese. Â
The food is still and always great, and the service can always improve. Â There are enough tv sets to satisfy my fiancee's sports addiction and seating and parking never seem to be an issue because it's a FAMILY RESTAURANT! Â
I'm just saying, even the lighting. Â I could see people's faces as if it were the 3 PM on a cloudless day. Â There's no need for kids to be able to attend there at 11PM. Â I don't know what happened at this particular Sports Grill location, but I find it hard to have irresponsible fun when there's a two year old that keeps kicking the back of my chair. Â
Until this place loses the family factor, I suggest to continue heading to locations on Bird and 117th or on 72nd and 102. Â Even though seating is harder at those places you don't have to worry that you might bump into one of your students.
WOW!!!, what else could anyone ask for?
Great Food, check.
Flat screens with HD on every wall, check.
ICE COLD beer... AND full bar, CHECK.
cute waitresses and excellent service, CHECK x2
this sports grill has it all!!!! tons of seating plenty of parking and the food is killer I if your a sports fan and you love chicken wings
the SPORTS GRILL is where you want to be!
This place has a lot more space & tons of Samsung flat screen HDs. But, let's get to the point as to why we only left $1.89 on a $23.00 bill! First off, the sign said wait to be seated and the hostess was MIA. It took 5 employees to walk by us before I had to tell one we were standing there looking like jerks. Secondly, we saw our waitress ONCE! Yep, one time. The food was decent, I can't complain too much beyond the wings (special grilled) were burnt. Is that even legal at Sports Grille? If it weren't for more parking & bigger layout, I would have left 2 stars.
Review Source:Must have's here : Â "Special Grilled" wings, smoked fish dip, conch fritters. Â Honorable mention : dolphin caesar, cheese fries
I have to agree with the previous posters that this place is HELLA BRIGHT. Â Wow, do they have lights all over the place. Â You might want to stick to the bar area where the lights are dimmer. Â
On the upside, parents - the kids have an area dedicated to them it seems. Â It's packed with arcade games and other fun things to play with. Â
Square footage wise, by far this is the biggest Sports Grill I've seen. Â Remember the old "Steak and Ale" building on 97th avenue next to the Ankarr Bakery shopping center? Â Yep, that's it. Â It shares a parking lot with Barry University. Â They kept most of the inside architecture including the fireplaces the previous restaurant once had. Â All they did was paint the walls green. Â
Overall we had a good time and focused in on one of the TV's showing old Tyson fights. Â Â And although my server was fantastic and I thought I received superior service, their seats were killer to my ass.
Let me rephrase, if you got a DONK or have back problems - the benches they provide for seating will feel like a medieval torture device on your tush. Â Halfway through my meal, I kept squirming trying to get comfortable. Â Â You lose one star for this Sports Grill, sorry. Â You can tell you went cheap on the furniture. Â I felt like I was sitting on a cement block. Â Get some decent seating for your customers.
Sports Grill translates to Bar Food and TVs. I have been to both locations and this one is way brighter. This is the place to go to for Wings (Strongly suggest the Grilled ones), Beer and Fried Food.
I went on a Sunday afternoon and the food came out quickly. The grilled wings were big with lots of flavor and a slight kick. The onion rings were crispy and plenty. So if you are in the mood for sports and good food at reasonable prices I would highly suggest hitting the Sports Grill.
Let me just start off by saying that the wings here are the BEST!! Gotta try the special grilled wings they're my fav :)
Anywho, decided to come to this "new" spot that just opened up...and i must say that it was NOT a good experience!!! The decor of the place was horrible........bad paint job, floors were dirty...and the lighting was TOO BRIGHT felt like I was in a huge interrogation room........
now lets get to the service...nothing but teeny boppers working here and they took FOREVER!!!!! The only thing that kept me from leaving the establishment was that they had the oscars on one of the TV screens and I didnt want to miss any of it. And of course the prices were a little bit higher than the other sports grills..(which i didnt mind) but when my wings came out they were TINY as HELL!!! no LITERALLY, i thought it as a joke....I could go on and on..but you catch my drift. I shall forever remain faithful to my Sports grill over on 72nd ave! :)
Warning- this review is solely based on the consumption of BEER....ice cold BEER...and no food....
Met up with some friends at this new Sports Grill last week. Â I was happy to see that they finally put something worth while in the old Steak and Ale spot. Â The place has been completely revamped, but I did find the layout to be a little odd. Â After about 5 minutes in the room by the bar I looked up and saw a plane hanging overhead...a full sized 2 seater plane. Â I mentioned it to my friends and they congratulated me on finally talking about the white elephant in the room.
We ordered a pitcher of the IPA and drank and chatted away. Â No complaints on the ice cold beer from me, but really...when do I ever complain about beer anyway???
I hope to be back soon to try the food out. Â I'm hoping it will be significantly better than the sister restaurant on Sunset because the last time I was there (see review) I was not happy at all.
Stay tuned for updates.....
Be advised, this Sports Grill location is not yet on Google Maps. At least when I checked this past weekend, anyway. It was redirecting me to the one on Sunset...Yelp saves the day once more!
Not overly crowded for a Saturday morning but as you can imagine, there is a bit of a wait. The venue itself is that of a typical sports bar. Except, this one seemed a bit spacious. Flat screen everywhere, always an added bonus.
From what I gather, the food here isn't as good as the other locations but still not horribly bad. Service was okay. As for the wings, there definitely was not enough and the waiter even dropped one on the floor and left it there. O_o Um...thanks for shortening us by ONE wing, mister. I mean, come on. How are fatties supposed to get their fat on if people are dropping their stuff on the ground? Oh well.
The price and location might be the only two things that will bring me back here...maybeee even the whole sports thing (obviously not an avid sports bar enthusiast). Like the other locations, Sports Grill is a very affordable place to come and chill with friends (pitcher of beer included).
Yes, this is the new, Kendall location of the famous Sports Grill on Sunset drive with the best wings in Miami. Â I was so excited to see this new location close to home, (in the old "Steak and Ale" building on 97th Ave.). Â But, I have to think it's going through growing pains. Â
The place smelled like fresh paint. Â There was no one to greet me at the hostess stand. Â Took me a while to get someone's attention to find I was just supposed to seat myself. Â
The tables and benches are pretty uncomfortable. Â But you've come to expect that at the original Sports Grill. Â
The service was ssslooowwwww.... Pretty bad. Â Tried to order nachos for appetizer, but they were out! Â Scared to order a beer for fear it would never make it. Â
Of course, the main event here is the wings. Â I have to say, unfortunately, they were just OK... could it be they were ordered as "take out" from the other location?? Â Took long enough! Â And they honestly did not seem as fresh or hot. Â Yes, its the same delicious "special grilled" but for some reason, just not as good. Â Plates came 10 minutes later... stacks and stacks of tiny styrofoam disposables... they REALLY have to do something about this! Â
My guess is they opened this restaurant before they were really ready to do so. Â Plenty of nice flat-screen TVs to watch the game. Â But not enough staff to keep diners happy. Â I will wait a good few months before going back. Â Hopefully they'll have cleaned up their act by then! Â Good luck:)
