Used to love this 'spot' for good bar food or a decent meal at a fair price. The price is still right but the food....not so much. We only ordered bar food- nachos, chicken bites, egg rolls & potato skins- best by far where the potato skins, real potatoes with real cheese, egg rolls & chicken, OK for bar food, the nachos...yuck!!  They used to be good here- no more- chips were OK but the cheese? A few in our party said Velveeta would have been better....obviously they have real cheese(the potato skins). Reasonable prices are nice but good food is better- raise the price a buck but make it GOOD!!

stopped in for drinks with some friends after a work function.  Atmosphere reminded me of a Ground Round.  Friendly staff and patrons, on the night we were there a psychic was at the bar reading people, quite the unexpected surprise.  I would go back to The Spot.

Things have gone downhill since I was here last. The environment seems more lively now though. It was a Saturday around 7pm. I ordered a coke, prime rib, and mozzarella sticks. You can no longer pick your sides on the prime rib, you can no longer pick the size, and it is no longer seasoned. It is just a bland over cooked piece of meat now with sides that taste like buffet food. The mozzarella sticks were under cooked. The coke was good and the service was fast. In fact, it was so fast, I didn't even get a chance to say I needed steak sauce before the server ran away. I had to ask another server for the steak sauce because my server had disappeared for some time. Also, the same prime rib is $19 on Friday, but $11 on Saturday. I would have been very upset to pay the Friday rate for the meal I got. Maybe the other food items are better. I will try one more time, but my old favorite is gone and quantity does not make up for poor quality.

Good neighborhood spot. The food was tasty and the daily food/drink specials are good. A good place to watch sports and grab a quick drink after work.

Went for ladies night which was cool. This place is huge with a big ass menu to match. Our waitress was super friendly; our drinks heavy on the booze and the half price appetizers were so large we couldn't finish them. Seems like the place is full of locals. If I ever come back to the area I would stop by again.

I was in town on business so I stopped by here twice for lunch and was a happy customer both times. The hot wings and hamburger were both good for a bar and I would return again for the friendly service and food.

The brightest on the scorching Groton nightlife scene?  It can't be any place other than The Spot!

If you want to get in the door at this "see and be seen" nightspot, you'll have to open it yourself because there isn't a bouncer!

When you're deciding where to party til dawn, this place will definitely hit the spot!

Seriously, they have a decent beer selection with surprisingly good options from regional breweries.  There are plenty of booths, tables and a nice patio area.  I just had beer so can't comment on food.  Service was....leisurely but I thought the lady bartenders were nice.

Stopped here today for lunch. Ordered the chicken bomb sandwich. The sandwich was excellent. Service was a little on the slow side but not terrible.

Not stellar, but a good neighborhood....well, spot. They have some good daily specials and their food is pretty decent. Can't say much about the service, though. Even when the place is barren, the service is slow and unattentive. We had very good service one evening on the patio but I haven't seen that server since. We were fans of the lobster bisque and the prime rib special on Saturday nights fed both my boyfriend and I for three additional meals (which is why I would suggest taking advantage of that whenever you can). I wouldn't recommend this place for Sunday brunch; seems more like a lunch and casual dinner spot.

Nothing special really, I like the steak bomb, though you can probably get something similar in many places.  Had a pretty good fish and chips there one time too.  Good selection of beer.  Good place to go for a beer and a quick bite.  Kinda' like an ole' standby, it's been there forever.

Eh.  The wings were mediocre.  Decent spice, but they weren't cooked well enough.  The TV situation was good to watch a game.

First time here on a business trip and it was a pretty decent place if a little pricey for what you get.  I had the lobster ravioli and lobster bisque. They were okay, nothing great but pretty good.  Everyone in my party was happy with their meals too. The service was friendly and quick.

It seems like it'd be a decent place to grab a beer and watch the game too as they have a lot of screens.

The Spot is literally about 3 blocks away from my house and I have been about 4-5 times, yet usually as a last resort to grab a drink or catch a UFC fight on their TV's. I'll give you my rundown of how I feel about the Spot-
Food- The same you would find in any Applebees,99's, Rubys...you get the point its your same old American freezer food.
Drinks- This is the one "Spot" they shine on, decently priced and well made.
Service- I compare the service to if I hired all my high school buddies to work at my restaurant, they are all locals and tend to focus on all of their buddies who come to pack the bar in the evening. I felt as if I was annoying the server/bartender to get another drink because it disrupted her chat session with her friends.
Atmosphere- Usually have been at night or after the dinner crowd, but it's a bar, not the place to meet women as it is a heavy male presence and a good ole' boy feel-meaning if you're not a regular or from the area not the friendliest.

I'll conclude my account by saying, its a sports bar, no music at night, the food is nothing speacial and when my friends and I are looking for a place to go this is almost never it...

Love the Monterey Chicken Salad, the Cheesesteak, and the Mushroom Swiss Burger.  Waitstaff friendly yet professional too. Spacious booths.

the food is marginal and the service leaves a lot to be desired. there is little to nothing original about this place other than the fact that you wont find me here unless its with a group of drunken sailors saying good bye to a friend...its a decent party spot.

I think this place should be more appropriate titled, "The (Average) Spot"

The food is average. Drink selection is average. Women are average. Service is....you get the point.

The two things this bar has going for it is, 1) they have all the football games on Sundays (Dish) and 2) The beers are cheap and they feature specials.

There really isn't much else in the area; it's either here or Stash's for sunday afternoons if you want to see an out of market game. You could do worse.

Most of this type of food is available just about anywhere.  I don't think the menu alone should give anyone delight or surprises.  The service, on the hand, was increasingly slow.  The bar staff seemed more interested in hanging out with friends then serving customers.

Came here after massage school with the gang. The food was fantastic. The waitress was very nice...but didn't seem to take our group very seriously.

That aside the prices are pretty average and the clientile looked a little rough .

I wouldn't bring a date here but good food and a bar. So maybe treat this place like a place to grab a beer with a bunch of friends.

Note: Be careful in parking lot...my friend actually got hit by a truck while walking through their parking lot at begining of the semester (don't worry she is fine).

I really like the Spot. To me, it's a foolproof place - the food is good, the beer is good, the staff is friendly. They're menu stretches beyond bar food staples like burgers and nachos - they've got pasta, Mexican, steak (including prime-rib after 5 on weekdays), seafood, and pizza. They have a particularly delicious surf and turf that comes with yummy crab cakes. When it's nice out, I prefer their outdoor seating located on a size-able patio that's blocked off just enough so you only see the tops of the lush green trees that line the street.

Despite the Spot being a sports bar, I've never gone to catch a game, but my husband and his friends/co-workers have. They've got big ol' TV screens around the bar with several games on at once, which is important since Connecticut is a state that must appease to both Boston and New York fans. They're also the only bar I know that's got a wi-fi connection. (Maybe I just don't get out that much...) So if you're got a fantasy team, then you don't have to stay cooped up in the house or call your wife every 20 minutes to check your players' scores. You can just bring your laptop (and your wife, if she's patient) to the Spot!
