Ok so I need to say I went to a game on a Tuesday. Which means I did not experience the bar super packed or nuts. As you know it's across from the stadium, which made it nice for beer. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is the food. I was literally sad I had to eat the hotdogs I ordered.
Review Source:I've been a Stan's customer since the late seventies and it has more YANKEE heart and soul than the new stadium does. Â Sometimes on game day I go just to hang out at the bar. Â The place never disappoints. Â The beers are always ice cold, the bartenders and barmaids are all some of the best you'll find in NYC. Â Want to know what it was like at the old stadium, with the true fans? Â Visit Stan's. Â You'll feel the history.
Review Source:Stans is the place to be when the Yanks are in town. The staff is awesome always fast and friendly,  you'll  never wait long no matter the crowd for the coldest beer on the planet! The music is loud but it makes energy of the place unmatched. Bathrooms are tight  but who really cares!! You must stop in before every game.  Go YANKS!!
Review Source:My absolute favorite spot to grab a few (sometimes, way more than a few) drinks before and after any event at Yankee Stadium. Â I've been going here for many years with my brother and was always impressed that in spite of the huge crowds that gather here, we've always been able to get served very quickly. Â Always a fun crowd, great music and friendly and accommodating staff. Â Luckily, I've now been going to Stan's long enough with my own friends that most of the staff knows me by name (some just by face) and I always get an amazing greeting at the door and inside. Â I've been to all the other bars on River Ave numerous times but I'll always come back to Stan's. Â They're quite generous with buy-backs as well which is AWESOME!
Review Source:My girl friend and I showed up extremely late (7th inning..oops) to a Yankees game recently on a Friday night, and once realizing that a)the Yankees were losing terribly -sad face- and b) they had stopped selling alcohol, we met up w some friends and headed the couple blocks over to Stan's.
My friend must be a regular there, as we were quickly waved through the door and had a drink in hand before I could find a place to put my bag down. Considering it was standing room only, I saw this as a miracle. Which only could have been topped by the Yankees making a come back and winning the game (they didn't).
For what it was, the place is decent. Noisy crowded sports bar right next to the stadium w many tv's and over priced drinks. Next time I'll make it to the game on time!
Typical over-crowded, loud sports bar by a stadium. Drinks are ridiculously expensive for what they are, but I also expected that considering its location. Supply and demand, folks. It was sort of fun after a few drinks, but a few drinks can make most crappy things more fun, I suppose.
Review Source:If you want to be packed in with other Yankee fans before a game and shout your beer order to the bartender a few times before he hears you, then get in line (behind me - because I love it). Beers are $5 cheaper than in the stadium, so it's worth it to stop in for a couple before heading in. There's bartending stations set up in some corners so you don't have to fight your way to the main bar. I didn't have a problem getting more beers, and they do take credit cards.
Review Source:EHhhh
The "unofficial" yankees bar. After a yankees' game it's like drinking in a subway! IT"S SO DAMN PACKED!! no bouncer or people limit and you get to hang out with really drunk yankees fan...yay!! Be ready to get pushed around the bar!
Only perk is, they do play good music, but yeah, that's about it...
Ah, yes, Stan's.
Been here twice and had a blast both times. Â Luckily they figured out how to tap a keg since my first visit because back then the spray shorted out the power and almost started a fire... Â No shit.
Beers are reasonable for New York, get there early, and go for a bartop by the windows. Â Where else can you get waitress service from the sidewalk? Â Not for the squeamish because this place will be CROWDED within an hour before the game.
No matter whether the yanks win or lose, this place gets packed the minute a game ends at the stadium. Â Lots of cool Yanks memorabilia and history on the walls and on the bar tables. Â Worth checking out at least once. Â Prices are good, environment is so much fun. Â Good drink selection, fast, skilled bartenders. Â Any true Yanks fan knows this place.
Review Source:came here prior to a yankee game and had a great time! Guy at the front door was really helpful with giving me and my buddies some tips on what to do since we were visiting from the east coast. We had some food, and while i wasnt too impressed with the food it wasnt terrible. Lets be real how great of food can you expect. The strong drinks def made up for the food not being any special and that def made the yankee game that much more exciting. Oh and one other thing whats up with places on the east coast not having ranch for the hot wings!!!!!??? Would def recommend this spot before the yankee game, strong drinks and great service!
Review Source:It's hard to know what to say... As a horrendously biased, unapologetic New York Yankees faithful, You can't have the full Yankees experience without stepping into Stan's before most of the games you go to. It is "the bar" (pronounced with a long "e") to frequent in the Stadium area. Any fan knows that.
But as a bar, location notwithstanding, let's face the facts. This is an average watering hole, with average bartenders, average ambience, average food, and average-to-bad prices, especially on the food. This isn't Katz's deli; I find it hard to understand how they justify their sandwich and burger prices.
And said food is certainly edible, but not exactly legendary. If I were you, I'd stop in for a few cheap beers, chit-chat with the local yokels, and then go to to one of the local delis for cheap food. Besides, come pre-game, it's near IMPOSSIBLE to find a seat.
I still love Stan's, though, because I am obligated to :).
I really want to like this place, it's close to the stadium, the prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is lots of fun. Â But I had the following experience with Stan's staff.
Me: Can I have a Sam Adams Summer, please?
Bartender: Sure, coming right up.
Bouncer: You need to move, you're blocking the bar.
Me: Yup, no problem. Â Just let me pay for my beer.
Bouncer: Move, NOW!
Bartender: Here you go, anything else?
Me: No, thanks. Â [Reaches for wallet.]
Bouncer: I said, NOW! Â Asshole! Â You want to get thrown out?
Me: Excuse me? Â [Still trying to pay for beer]
Bouncer then grabs me by the back of my shirt, knocks the beer on the floor, and shoves me out the door.
A Yankee fan who has never been to Stan's is no friend of mine. It's tradition to start every game off by slamming down a couple beers at Stan's. It's no longer stumbling distance from the bleachers, but every fan (over the age of 21 of course) must go out of their way to keep this icon alive.
It's the ideal place to meet your buddies, although there will be no catching up. It wouldn't be the proper time at Stan's without the pre-game on mute and Pearl Jam's "State of Love and Trust" contributing to your premature hearing aid purchase. The music is FN loud man. I've grown out of most bars where I can't move, can't talk, and can't get a beer, but Stan's will always have a place in my heart. Play ball!
This is based off me spending a few minutes in Stan's while people I know met other people they know and so on and so forth..
Really not my type of bar. Â I don't enjoy bars that I have to literally shout over the music just to hear every other word in a conversation. Â Maybe this dies down when the game is, and it's fine to be loud DURING a game, but loud (may I also mention crappy?) music before the game, is just ridiculous. Â
They seem to have plenty of seating, which is appreciated. Â However, maybe it was just the day I popped in, but there seemed to be a lot of sorority girls and frat boys lingering around. Â Not my kind of crowd. Â I'm older than half these "kids" and can hold my liquor way better than most of them.
I'll come check out Stan's again one day for a game and see how it is. Â Luckily, I'm always at Yankee games so I can celebrate inside the stadium.
You go to a stadium bar for three things:
1. Get plastered before the game.
2. Get demolished after the game.
3. Have a drink where no one can find you during the off-season.
Stan's is a good place to get this done. You'll definitely know you're in Yankees country from all the decor and the fact that you can see the stadium from the doors. If that's not enough you'll also have the army of Yankees fans in full battle gear either preparing for another showdown or drowning their angry sorrows in Miller Lite. Bartenders are pretty friendly and shots and beers were speedily served. It's not an easy place to have a conversation though with the hair metal cranked up to 11 so we split after ten minutes.
This place will be PACKED. You will probably not be able to move. You will have minimal personal space. The drinks are much cheaper than in the stadium. For the amount of people here lines for drinks seem to go quick. never really had to wait too long.
Totally not my usual scene but this is an awesome post game place for a Yankee fan to go celebrate a win. As a bonus if you go here after the game for an hour or two you can actually get out of the parking lot without sitting in traffic forever.
If your're not agoraphobic, and you happen to be  friends with a lot of broad shouldered,  cliquey borough-centric people, then you'll fit right in here.
Seriously, this place can be cool, but you can't be shy. Â Me and my buddy went on the 2011 Opening day, and resigned ourselves to being people-locked, and it wasn't really that bad.
People are drunk, but friendly. Â People seem to come with the constant hope that the Yankees will pull out a victory, to slightly bolster their own shortcomings. Â Sometimes it works.
This place is best observed by the casual outsider, during the middle innings of a weekday game when everyone is inside. Â Or a blowotu, when no one cares. Â It gives you the opportunity to check out the fun art work, and chat with the workers. Â Overall a good spot.
I did the touristy thing and came in here yesterday because our seats absolutely blew ass at Yankee Stadium. Â
It's nothing special - the bartenders were cool and they got a decent selection of beers and yes, Magners Cider. Â Cheaper beers than at Yankee Stadium - and I thought Fenway Park was like a night at the opera. It's an old place, formerly in the shadow of the old stadium, and full of die hards - not for the weak or the faint of heart. Â Before the game it's more crowded than a Tokyo subway at rush hour - during the game there was hardly anyone in there - I heard Ace Frehley's "Back in the New York Groove" upon entering. Â Maybe it was an omen, who knows. Â I didn't expect to hear Boston's "Long Time." Â That would have been like a Twilight Zone episode.
Oh how I will miss the old Yankee Stadium. But since the new one is opening across the street, I will still be able to enjoy a pregame drink or twelve at Stan's.
This ultra crowded and loud sports bar is the place most people go to when Yankee Tavern is too packed. It is directly across from Yankee Stadium and is a classic NY sports bar. Nasty floors, angry bartenders, pushy crowd and obnoxious drunks walking in and out yelling "Lets go Yankees!"
So yeah...while you may not be able to enjoy an apple martini and some jazz music here, you can definitely down some shots and stagger over to the new stadium this spring!
Hot, crowded, extremely loud, music blaring, Nu Yawkers blabbing left and right, sticky floor, food (and beer) prices are riDICulous, and there are very few places to sit.
Stan's has been around for 196 years, if I recall correctly, and it is THE classic pit stop before a Yankees game.
We had an outstanding time.
Last Thursday was my first visit to Stan's Sports bar. This place was recommended to me as THE place to go before a game at Yankee Stadium. Â It is located directly across the street from the Stadium so you cannot beat the location.
We arrived around 5 PM for a 7:05 game and the place was already pretty packed. As soon as we entered we squeezed around to the back part of the bar and we were able to get a spot right on the bar. Being right at the bar we were served relatively quickly and did not have any problem getting a few rounds of drinks before the game.
Oh and it's also worth mentioning that I am a Red Sox fan and was in sox attire. Of course I received usual "harassment" that comes with being a Red Sox fan in the Bronx, but at was all good spirited in nature (with the worst probably came from my Yankee fan friend who went to the game with me).
This is by no means an upscale bar nor would I expect it to be. You go for the atmosphere. It is just a fun place to go, hang out with fellow baseball fans, and grab a few drinks before the game.
We also went back to Stan's after the game (which ended in a sox win...woohoo!) and found there to be a good mix of both Yankees and Red Sox fans having a good time together.
I definitely plan to be back next year when the Red Sox come back to the stadium. Go Sox!
I dig Stan's. We have a ticket package and try to stop by for a drink before or after every game (or during if the game is sucking horribly). Drinks aren't too expensive, you always meet cool people and it's easy to have a good time there. The food isn't too bad either for a quick bite. They have decent beers on tap and their mixed drinks are pretty strong. It's a good place to have a fun with other fans....
Review Source:Bad beer? Â BAD BEER? Â If somebody can explain to me how Sam Summer Ale and Blue Moon on tap within 5 feet of walking in the door equals bad beer, I'd love to hear it.
Here's the secret, don't go in the first entrance when you're walking from the subway towards Gate 6, take the second one that's on the corner of 158th (I think) and River Ave.
Right there to your right when you walk in is a small bar with Sam Adams, Coors Light, Sam Seasonal (looking forward to the Octoberfest in September and October) and Blue Moon on tap. Â The Coors Light is $5, everything else is $6. Â You don't have to deal with pushing through the crowd to get to the main bar or anything like that.
Yes, the one annoying thing is the bouncers make people move away from the doors so that it looks less crowded and more people will come in.  Yes, if  Boston or the Mets are playing that night the place is so ridiculously crowded it's not worth walking in.  But this is STAN's, it's a Yankee institution.  If you haven't had a beer in this bar before or after a game, you haven't been to Yankee Stadium.
Can you tell the bad beer comments annoyed me a little bit?
The best place for drunk Yankee fans or Yankee fans looking to get drunk!
Nothing better than leaving Yankee Stadium, walking down River with other Yankees fans chanting "Lets go Yankees" and turning into Stan's for a drink. Â Crowded but among friends.
Stan's also offers a bag check for those who bring backpacks to the Stadium. Â $7...but you have no other option.
I've only been once, and may never go back. Â Not because I had a bad experience, but because I was invited to a yankees game by my friend, and I am a Mets fan. Â So I may not be back in the area much. (Stan's is across from the left field side of the stadium if I remember correctly)
Marc mentioned that it is a horrible place to go before the game. Â I can't speak to that because we went after the game. Â It wasn't too crowded, we got served pretty quickly. Â Lots of TVs to watch whatever sports is on. Â As to the range of beer and liquor, I can't say. Â The beers I had at the bar tasted fine to me, although we had downed five or six large $9 beers during the game. Â
If you want to know where the fun bars are near yankee stadium, I suggest you talk to a yankees fan. Â I guess I can't be of too much help here.
