Service was good, ambiance fun. The food was pretty tasty. We had pulled chicken and brisket with sides of beans, coleslaw, mac n cheese and big steak fries. Very few veggies on the menu and no basic garden salad. All in all, we left satisfied with some leftover to take home. I hope they are successful.

Stumbled apon this jem by accedent last Saturday night, some friends and I had just left a show and were walking around looking for a place to grab a qick bite and a drink.  We were told this place has only been opened for two weeks?? Could have fooled me, the server, Maggie, was very friendly and the food was great, a nice blend of standards and some unique dishes as well.
My friends and I decided to all order something different and share so we could try a little of everything, from the watermellon salad and crawfish appetizer to the bison burger and Ribs everything was outstanding.
Can't wait to get back for another round.

New favorite spot!!!!  I have been three times and tried different apps and entrees each time and they've all been excellent! Kung pao bacon and tabasco corn are a couple of my favorites.  Love the fact that beer is served in cans.  Can't wait to go again!

Any time a new restaurant opens in New London, you can expect people to flock to it. We're a little deprived for variety around here. There's not too much competition for BBQ joints around here, but it doesn't take much to compete with State Street Saloon.
The atmosphere here is if nothing else, creative. The place is set up to be 19th century western saloon. Great attention was put towards all if the woodwork, decor, bar, ect. Even the outfits for the waitresses (which borders a little more on bordello than tavern. A bit in appropriate if you ask me). Service was slow, but I would put most of that blame in an inexperienced kitchen.
There's not as much attention but towards the food though. Fried pickles had a decent breading, but were a bit greasy/soggy. The brisket and ribs were lacking in any flavor at all. If you're going to put BBQ on your menu, and flaunt that it's from your own smokehouse, then there'd better be some smoke. Both were like eating cardboard that was left in the oven. If you attempt to sell brisket like that in Texas, you're likely to be laughed at till you reach the state line.
The sides were adequate. Southern slaw was a nice blend if sweet and tart. Beans were an interesting mix between traditional Texas and southern baked styles. And mac-n-cheese was good, but lacking in the cheese dept. the sauces delivered to the table were pretty good, but this just made the meat more of a disappointment. And good BBQ should never need sauce.
The draft beer selection is limited with a slight larger selection in cans, but no one should have to pay 4$ for a can on PBR.

It's obvious that a lot of time and effort was spent renovating this location and opening a restaurant that's been closed for 13 yrs. It's just a shame that more of that attention wasn't given towards the food.

I was so excited to see this place opening. It seemed like the perfect storm. Someone invested a lot of time (and money) to create a very different bar scene in new London. Great location - beautiful building with lots of character - a historic building outfitted to bring you back to the Wild West circa 1775. PLUS the promise of delicious food - southern style.

I walked in with three of my friends last Saturday night and sat at a table hoping to enjoy some delicious food. There we waited, and waited - then waited some more. Then two of my friends waited up at the bar for a while. We were only acknowledged coming in (as our IDs were checked) and then as we left ("have a good night ladies!")

I know that it's still early in the game for them. But being new, I expected a lot more from them in the way of friendly service. Needless to say, we left a half hour after arriving without food nor beverage nor new favorite bar. Just sadness.

Fortunately captains pizza serves slices all night, and 33 is a quick and friendly place to nab a drink.
