I owe them finding my favorite local beer: Triangle Brewery White.  I'm from Colorado where I consider the birth of microbrewed beer to have occurred but after trying my first local beer at the Station I am hooked.  NC all the way.

i like the funkiness of this bar, that weird old piano and the nice bartenders who still card me even though I'm twice the legal drinking age.  Its a nice place to hang out before a show at the Cat's Cradle and they have a nice outdoor seating area.  Not loving the cigarette smoke out there though.

I absolutely detest the service and food at Southern Rail but the Station is tops for a hang-out and beer.

This place does have historical significance, and tremendous novelty; however, it is not a staple of my outing experience as it is for so many Carrboro/Chapel Hill citizens. Come on a weekend to see this spot packed out with rowdy plaid-clad 20-somethings. If you're looking for that kind of scene, you can definitely find it here.

Last note: This place does keep it classy with cheap PBR's. Get the tallboys.

Love the vibe here. It's so laid back. Plenty of parking. Cool casual bar in the back with never-fail live music. It's so entertaining to watch the bands perform because they have so much fun on stage.
Later in the evening the dance floor came alive and the dj totally rocked.
I love a place that has Bulliet and they even serve food in the bar section. The cheesecake wasn't the best, but its nice to have a few options at least while hanging out.
Something about Carrboro that escapes the college-esque of Chapel Hill.

There is absolutely no way I could ever hate this place based solely on the fact that my favorite all time band R.E.M. played here before I was even born and I recently saw an acoustic Fountains of Wayne set here mid day on a Friday.  Day drunk AND my third fav band?  FANTASTIC.

Seriously though... amazing and ample outdoor and indoor seating.  Good beers.  FABULOUS margaritas.  Strong gin and sodas if you are into that sort of thing.  Sometimes good deejays.  This place is the best earlier in the night, though I have ended a few nights here after getting super drunk at other places (or starting off here and then returning to close it out).  I've danced here, had great chats here, and made so many MEMORIES.

Ladies - make sure you lock the bathroom door behind you!  It DOES lock!

Just don't park in Carr Mill or else the parking nazi will get you.  Or go on half price wine night with the intentions of splitting a bottle with a friend then end up drinking your own.  On a Wednesday night.

    Spot on.

Not a fan of music so loud you can't hear other people talk. But what was really disappointing was that they allow smoking outside and on the patio. If they would ban smoking outside so I could talk to people without secondhand smoke surrounding me, I'd probably come back.

This is my favorite bar in Carrboro, but I'm giving them 4 stars because I'm trying to be as unbiased as possible.

pros- GREAT live music, bartenders, open dance floor, decent drink prices, hipster but not uppity (inclusive to everyone), great place to meet new people, outside area has great seating, its a train depot! On Monday nights they have Open Mic Night, highly suggest checking that out, weekends are DJs preceded by live music usually, low amount of annoying underage students.

cons-DJs can be a little spotty, some friends have had bad experiences with the bartenders (in particular the asshole with a fedora and beard), beer selection is limited, its definitely hipster so if you have low tolerance you probably shouldn't go (or live in Carrboro for that matter).

Stopped in for a pint for the first time on the way home tonight. Looks like it will be a regular hangout spot. More later, but for right now, all I can say is good music and nice atmosphere.

If you're looking to grab good beer - Avoid this place!
This used to be one of my favorite establishments; but the rude/surely bartenders this year have definitely put a damper on things.

Brought a few international friends to sample NC brews on Friday night - mistake! When asking for a recommendation between two local beers we were told "These are beers, not cars". When we were then given the cold shoulder for a solid 10 mins, we were forced to leave to drink at Milltown.

If you're looking to branch out, try a new beer, and need a rec, get yourself to Milltown, Speakeasy, or really any other establishment but here. Not to mention any place but here is more welcoming to internationals.
I was definitely ashamed of the Station on Friday, especially since when I visit my friends in their country, the waitstaff is nothing but warm, despite my broken Spanish.

I thought this was such a great place to enjoy an evening of drinks and music. The bartender was very friendly and the vibe was laid back. I'm definitely looking forward to trying out the restaurant at some point soon.

Super cool ambiance. Note that the individual bars inside have different beer on tap.

I absolutely adore The Station, it's become my home away from home while my wife is down here in grad school.

The Station is attached to Southern Rail next door, both of which were originally the train station in Carrboro back in the day. Southern Rail is more of a sit-down restaurant, The Station is more of a bar. They both have the same drinks and the same food.

This bar has everything I love. It has good food, which is rare. It has ample seating. It has free live music. It has a nice space with good decor that feels funky and casual. It has both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoors people sometimes bring their dogs! Also, outdoors I can kick back with a cigar, drink a Copperline beer, eat some cheese-and-bacon covered tater tots and enjoy life until I have a heart attack.

As with much of Carrboro (at least what I've seen) crowd seems to be grad students and younger professionals. Not too much of a hipster bar, and not a fratboy bar like you tend to find closer to the university. Still, as a couple in our late 30s/early 40s, my wife and don't feel out of place there.

It's worth noting that as much as I try to explore different spots in The Triangle every time I'm in town, we always wind up back at Southern Rail. It's just that good.

The Station is a fun place to dance and party in.  I have only experienced the live music here once, so I can only say that it was an amusing time and it seems like the live music could be nice here, but that band was not for me...

However... the dancing.... ah the dancing!!!! So much fun to dance here.  You get to know the people who come every week to dance here.  There's the dirty looking people who dancing ridiculously well, the guy who could out dance MJ, and so on.  The music can be crappy sometimes, but most of the time it's a nice mix of stuff that's just plain fun to dance to.  The bartenders are awesome and nice and get to know you easily if you're a regular.  Southern Rail is next door to grab drinks if the floor is too packed to make your way to the bar.

All and all, this is a great place to come dance.  Friday and Saturday nights are amazingly fun and I highly recommend trying out the dance floor :)

It is never boring here. The beer garden is great during parts of the year with good weather for it. Beer selection is limited but they usually have something good.. I have never had the food but I hear the brunch is decent. I enjoy coming here. I am not a fan of the live music most nights but some of the dance parties are fun.

I've listened to live music, admired the bathroom, photobooth'ed on the porch, and watched a scandalous burlesque act -- all at The Station. It's an eclectic little venue, to be sure!  Most enjoyed on a slow weeknight when you can camp out with a beer and have cool Carrboro conversation. =) You can also order food from Southern Rail next-door and eat it here in the more laidback, loungey of the two!

It can get pretty packed and hectic on the weekends. This is a default for the Carrboro crowd late at night so be sure come ready to dance and get jostled around.

The food was disappointing in quality and serving size.  It was overpriced for what we got, and the size of the side items were appalling.  Also not a very good selection.  However, it's a great place to hang out at night with friends for a few drinks.  There is plenty of outside seating, and enough inside on cold nights.

I've been here for two prime things:  Dance parties and Hell Trivia.  Both are quite awesome.

Dance parties are quite interesting at The Station:  it's not your traditional grind fest a la Players.  Yet it's not slow or anything either.  It's just enjoyable.  It can get a little hot in there, but people are having a good time, and that's what matters.

And then there's the awesome challenge that is Wednesday's Hell Trivia.  It's not for the meek: categories based around 90s hip hop artists, the humming of TV theme songs, and psychology dot the potential landscape of questions.  Trivia also moves quickly, making it far less time-consuming than other places in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area.

This, coupled with decent prices on beer and food, make The Station an ideal hangout place.

i love the station. it attracts a wide range of people. i have been there at 7pm on a saturday and seen a bunch of middle aged people rocking out to a blues band and then at 11pm a DJ will start up and the crowd will magically burn into a bunch of 20 somethings! this place is a nice break from the fratiness of chapel hill and it can often be very queer.

The new late nite primal food champion!

On Friday and Saturday Nites, this is definitely the most packed place in Carrboro. If you are into that sort of scene - this is definitely the place for you.  Usually there is a DJ, some people like when it's reggae, others like when Craig or Patrick is there spinning.  Either way, you can always hang outside if you aren't into the music.

If you want it to be a little quieter, you can head to the beer garden at southern rail (yeah it's like an actual yard).

Lately, there is an extra special super awesome unpromoted thing that ensures that if I'm out late in Carrboro and hungry, I will DEFINITELY come here.  ECO Farms, a local farm, has been running a grill from 10pmish until 3am. So now after a nite of pounding Maker's Mark, you can chase it with a delicious locally raised pork sausage or rack of ribs for $5-6 (the cost of one of those drinks you've had all nite long).  One nite they added beans/coleslaw (I wasn't into that).

I challenge anyone to find a better local and tasty food alternative at this time of nite.  The Station/Southern Rail - new late nite drunk food champion!  (Sorry taco trucks, the overcooked Perdue chicken tacos aren't cutting it against this).

Dark and dingy it may appear at first, however never a cold place to be!

For real live local talent, cheaply priced beers and a spectacular atmosphere, when in carborro this place is a must...

warm welcomes from all and a real feel of a Southern type bar, the station, (built on the ruins of an old train station so i was told) is a fantastic place to chill out and enjoy a cold beer and a taste of great live music!

I have not explored too much of Carborro as I spent much of my time in Chapel Hill however when I return I am certainly going back to this place atleast once.

The decorations boast their pride of Carolina being the first place where man flew a plane, so you get an old time feel about the joint.
Certainly a fantastic place for those who like a low scale place to chillax!

Really like hangin outside, while live music churns on the inside, well stop on by The Station in Carrboro, it's a hip scene that anyone who knows where it's at can feel at home. The people that run the place were very nice, and the drinks were really cheap and kept on coming.

If I ever get back, I really want to try the restaurant next door, the one in the old rail cars. That's one thing that really makes this place stand out, the design is unique and executed extremely well.

The Station is my absolute favorite place to go out in Chapel Hill/Carrboro!  It has a really laid back atmosphere with a diverse group of people.  My roomates and I go there at least once a week if not more.  PBR is $2.25 and other drinks are reasonably priced.

The crowd is always really nice and there is always someone there who will talk to you, including the bartenders.  On Fridays and Saturdays there's usually a pretty big crowd and a DJ, you can either sit and hang out or dance.  The Station is also a nice place to go on weeknights, they have specials and even though there isn't a huge crowd it's a nice place to go and people watch (characters are always present) and/or socialize.  One or two nights out of the week are open-mic nights and local bands come and play --always a different type of music.

Either way I can't say I've had a bad night at The Station, it's definitely worth checking out!

The Station is one of my most favorite places in the world!  There's never a cover, there are always great bands & DJs, the food is wonderful, everyone is friendly, and the people watching is great!

It is rare in the Triangle to find a place that offers great music for free multiple times a week.  From swanky instrumental bands to awesome indie rock bands to great DJ dance parties, The Station has it covered.  And on days there is no featured music there are often other events going on such as the hardest trivia you've ever experienced on Wednesday nights, an awesome setup for basketball (& other sports) watching, and random benefit events.

Most importantly, I always feel comfortable at The Station, even when having to wait for long periods by myself for friends to arrive.  There is plenty to look at on the walls to stay occupied, tvs to watch which usually either play sports or random indie films, or you can chat with a friendly bartender.  I never feel that awkward need to check my cell phone/look out the door every minute & will my friends to hurry up.

All in all, I just love the laid back ambiance combined with the great selection of events resulting in a cheap, fun night out!

Sounds like The Station's long been found out around here, but was I happy to find myself perched there last night: the place seems bathed in quirk, from the hysterical by way of odd wallpaper in the rest room to the thumping and twanging happening onstage, I can see why most folks would be content to curl up with a pint here and kill time.

Word via my local tour guides was that The Station plays home to packed houses during UNC games, and I can see why it might: excellent brew selection, friendly bar staff, and a mish-mash of folks who look like regulars, even if perhaps they're just passing through. 'Cause even if you've got one more place to hit (and we did), this place felt like an amiable last stop.

A fun bar right in the heart of Carrboro.  Can get loud and crowded, but can't all the good bars?  Some (most weekend?) nights they have a dj and dancing, which is always fun, especially when Craig P. is deejaying!  When things get too crazy pop over to sister bar Southern Rail's beer garden (you can take your drink).  Trivia night (Wednesday) is fun too, but get there early!  Lots of stuff to look at on the walls, nice bartenders.

If the multiple barrooms at Southern Rail don't quite work out for you, there's always The Station, a comfy little bar right next to it that offers a fine drinking experience.  There's less variety here than available in the main restaurant, but the atmosphere (couches, high ceilings, NO SMOKING, people who look more like they're there to have some fun rather than drink themselves into oblivion) makes it a more attractive choice anyway.

As a quick (and weird) word of caution, the men's room  is plastered with old movie posters, comic book covers, and other nonsense that provides a nice visual but just might keep you in there longer than you need to be if you've had enough booze to find yourself easily distracted.  Power through it, or recruit a friend to knock if you've still been gone after a reasonable amount of time.

I've visited the Station only once, and I doubt I'll be going back. My friend and I decided to stop in on a Sunday evening to have a couple of cheap beers (PBR was on special) and hang out for a little while.

When we walked in, the place was empty. There were about 3 or 4 people in a group outside, but they were the only other people there. No problem, I thought, just a Sunday night and everyone's getting ready for a busy week. We weren't really looking for a party scene anyway, so we bellied up and ordered a couple of beers. We took the beers outside, where I took my first sip of PBR...

You know that PBR sign that you've seen at many a bar that says "What'll you have? COLD BEER"? Well, apparently I forgot to mention that, because mine was warm. Not cool, not slightly chilled, but WARM. I was extremely annoyed and my friend went back to the bar to ask about the warm beer. The bartender told him the refrigeration system was busted - apparently he didn't feel that was necessary information BEFORE he served us warm beer. No offer to take the beer back, nothing. As I really wasn't in the mood to argue over something like that (and the beer was really cheap), I simply left the beer, walked down the street to OCSC, and had a wonderful time.

I wandered into The Station one day and walked right up to the bar and ordered a drink for like, $3.  Already I was thinking, "yes, I like it here."  Then I looked around.  The place is spacious for an old train station and it has a different decorating scheme on each wall ranging from a glued on collaged old city poster kind of thing, paintings that remind me of dia de los muertos style art, and local artists' works.  There are two sets of big open doors leading to outdoor seating areas with charming big wooden furniture, or regular patio furniture.  I started going there more often because I really love the DJ that plays there sometimes on Fridays.  He pulls out the old, obscure trancey hip hop faves and I'm into it!  Also, it always seems like I run into someone I know there - which is really awesome since I only moved to this area 8 months ago.

Also, I once watched the Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget there on a Sunday night and even with the old piano and Borat poster in the ladies' restroom, it felt just like home :)

I'm not a huge fan of Southern Rail, the restaurant portion of this venue, but I'm in *love* with The Station, a great new addition to the Carrboro bar scene.

It's a huge open room with high ceilings and tons of comfortable seating.  Unlike most bars in town, there's no smoking inside, but there's plenty of front and back patio space for you to light up.

The staff is friendly, and the drink prices and selection are excellent.

Go Wednesday nights for trivia hosted by Mark Dorosin, former host of trivia night at Hell.  It's a blast.

This is a new super cool bar and lounge located right next to the railroad tracks in Carrboro.  There's awesome outdoor seating in the rear and on the front patio area.  You'll meet some really cool, intelligent people here, it's pretty laid back (attire and over all vibe).  They have a band in there playing on Thursday nights for sure, I'm positive that someone is playing other nights also, but it hasn't been posted as yet.  There are nice sofa's and chairs to chill and lay back in while you sip on your cocktail or other beverage of choice.
