The Sun Room is a casual dining experience in an oasis-like environment. It is located in the Water Club, which is the GF and my favorite place to stay. On a Sunday at 11AM, it was packed with people getting ready to check out and grab one last meal before heading out. In typical lounge fashion, there are a bunch of elevated coffee tables with individual sofas around then. Amidst some well-trimmed shrubs, the Sun Room emanates hip, cool, yet relaxed. The GF and I didn't have time to wait around, so we parked ourselves at the bar.
The Classic ($12)
Absolut, fresh tomato, celery salt
To cap off a particularly great weekend at the blackjack tables, I started off with the Iron Chef's take on the bloody mary. This was definitely one of my favorite iterations of this classic drink. Enemies of spice and heat - stay away! The tipple had a nice searing kick induced by the pepper flakes interspersed throughout the drink. The tomato juice and vodka blended nicely, with the latter being mostly indiscernible until the end of the meal - the mark of a well made drink for me.
Scrambled egg sandwich ($14)
English muffin, herb salad, cheese, rosemary homefries
The GF went with the breakfast sandwich, which came with the option of several cheeses including provolone, American, and mozzarella. She went with the latter, which came out smothering the entirety of the perfectly creamy eggs, all atop a buttery English muffin. The peppery, bitter arugula salad was a nice countervailing element to the dish. The home fries were perfectly crisp, with a creamy center that helped to make this dish homey.
Lobster & bacon omelette ($20)
Maine lobster, smoked bacon, rosemary homefries
I opted for a perfectly made omelette, filled with smoked bacon and perfectly cooked lobster chunks. The tender lobster shone through and the occasional bite of salty, smoked bacon was a winner in my book. On top of the home fries and salad, the dish also came with grilled sourdough and a saucer of creamy sauce, which was reminiscent of a lobster bisque even (hollandaise infused with lobster essence perhaps?).
Cheddar and pork grits ($6)
However, my favorite was actual a side that I couldn't help but order! These perfectly made grits were buttery and creamy, yet maintained the texture of the grain itself. The pulled pork was infused with a sweet, tangy BBQ sauce - a nice way to jazz up this oft made classic. And the layer of cheddar on top? The salamander grill definitely did its thing - almost crunchy on the outside, the layer of cheddar was a perfect element to blend into the grits.
Overall, if you want elevated comforts in a casual, yet elegant atmosphere - you need to check out Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian's Sun Room. His take on these simple dishes made me salivate for the opportunity to try his fine dining restaurants (which unfortunately are not at the Borgata). In fact, (spoiler alert!) out of all the places we've tried at the Borgata (Bobby Flay Steak, Wolfgang Puck American Grille, N.O.W.), Iron Chef Zakarian easily laid the smack down on these other establishments.
the ambiance is nice, especially if you are sitting by the fire place... and the service was great.
I was not impressed with the food however. Â The chicken sandwich i ordered was very dry, and for the price... even if it wasn't dry, it would not have been worth it.
Probably best to go here for a few drinks, and just relax, away from the casino and crowds.
Quiet and peaceful...water, it is the Water Club, makes for pretty sound...bamboo and other greens...waitresses topple on high heels....and the food comes from some distant place...makes for long waits. I had the same arugula, avocado and tomato salad/sandwich and it is very good. Newspapers to read, and comfortable seats...it would be just a little more comfortable not seeing  the wait staff clunking along on Those shoes...speedy flats would be better.
Review Source:The Sunroom is a must visit for us during any trip to the Borgata/Water Club. Â This place makes for the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle out on the casino floor. Â There is a sense of tranquility that takes over as soon as you sit down, which probably has something to do with all the fresh gardens around, flowing waters, and even a slow-burning fireplace. . .it all comes together and makes for a great ambiance. Â
However, if you are wondering why they are not 5 star in my books it is mainly because of two things; Â the service seems slow when ordering a round of drinks (like they had to run to the casino floor to grab/make your drinks) and they are seasonal and are not always open.
If you are looking for a nice lounge to get a drink or maybe even a small bite this might be a good place to check out. Â It never seems very busy when we've been here, which is another perk! Â It is tucked away in the Water Club and not out in the open for all to see, which probably helps keep it relatively quiet.
I've been to the Sunroom two times during two separate visits to the Water Club and I would say it's great for a quick drink and lunch. not too overly priced (what else can you expect- you're in a hotel).
The second time around, when I heard that it was chef zakarian who was the chef, i was over delighted with joy and couldn't wait until I could have some lunch there!
I got the cheesesteak and it was delicious. An opened faced sandwich with lots of flavor from the fried onions, this was a good meal.
It was, however, extremely oily and greasy and very heavy, I wished my meal was a little healthier!
Good meal, not great- but still a nice atmosphere.
I don't like the waitresses there as both times i went they were dressed very..well.. unclassy.... but hey, i guess we're in atlantic city. I don't mind the way that they're dressed, but their professionalism when it comes to being a waitress was lacking and the service was very slow. Â
I'd return to sunroom for a quick bite or drink, Â but I rather go to other places in Borgata for a GREAT meal!
Being a huge fan of "The Next Iron Chef," I was delighted to find out that Geoffrey Zakarian had a place at The Water Club. Â I thought it was fate because my fiance and I had planned to stay at The Water Club for my extended birthday weekend long before we finished watching the latest season and became fans of Geoffrey.
Although the Sunroom was beautiful and the waitress was just the right amount of polite and friendly, the food was not what I would imagine to be Iron Chef worthy.
I ordered the burger medium rare/medium and it came medium well & dry with soggy fries.  I sent the burger back & it came with a new set of fries that weren't as soggy.  The second was redish inside  & dry.  The outside was so charred that I just tasted ashes.  I didn't say anything about this burger because I felt that saying something would just be useless & ate half because I was starving.
I am still a fan of Geofrrey and hope to try more of his food again.
The Sunroom is a small bar nestled in the relatively quiet Water Club. Â It's a great place to grab an afternoon evening cocktail if you're looking to escape some of the noise at the Borgata. Â The bar itself has about 8 seats. Â There is a nice size tv over the bar and when I was there the other night, they were showing the UFC. Â There are a bunch of lounge-style tables with club chairs as well.
Definitely not inexpensive by any means. Â A martini was $15, which is about on par with New York standards. Â The food was very expensive in my opinion - a cheese plate was $22 and a burger $18. Â At 8:30pm on a Saturday night, it was relatively empty and I enjoyed it. Â It was a welcome diversion from the rest of the hotel.
The Sunroom in the Water Club was the chosen rally point for everyone attending my friend's surprise birthday party. Â The Sunroom is a small, aesthetically pleasing, well-lit, well-foliaged lounge off of the main lobby. Â It offers the full range of bar service as well food to include small plates and even breakfast! Â The gf and I were the first to arrive so decided to have a drink while we waited. Â Things got off to a shaky start as the two males bartenders ignored my girlfriend as she attempted to order our drinks at the bar. Â Their loss...we tip well. Â We saw a table open up and grabbed it and looked over the wine list for a couple glasses of wine. Â
Our attentive and very friendly cocktail waitress Jordan, an attractive, Emmanuelle Chriqui lookalike, took our order and graciously offered to keep an eye out for our group and direct them our way. Â I had the Chateau Tanunda Shiraz from Australia's Barossa Valley ($13). Â First off, I received a very healthy pour, which wouldn't have been that big of deal had it not been for the truly satisfying, bold, full-bodied flavor of the wine. Â The value to price ratio was clearly in favor of value as it was a very enjoyable wine. Â Needless to say, I ordered a second glass. Â Before my second glass arrived, so did our friends...and the party began! Â The Sunroom may be just a "hotel bar", but it does a good job at it with its wine selection and pours. Â Jordan took great care of our party of twenty, keeping our drink orders and bills straight, and doing it with an upbeat attitude. Â The Sunroom's bartenders could learn a thing or two from her.
