Stela makes the place place rock. She is charming, treats everyone so kindly and can get stuff that's not on the menu. My girlfriend is an excellent waitress as is my sister. I have always been keen on great service. They call it ' pockets of excellence '. Having found several throughout San Clemente and surrounding areas, I can say Stela Zabala is perfectamente. A true 'Columbian Supremo'. 34700 P.C.H. Ask...no...demand Stela. She' s a Shaman and truly an exceptional waitress. My girlfriend, Mother and Sister all agree. She's an Angel.
Review Source:I had friends out from back east and rarely go to this place. Â I tend to be a foodie. Â Code: Food snob! Â :) Â I was mildly impressed with the food, but was surprised to have our waitress rise above and beyond by also offering us sushi from the restaurant next door and the server from the sushi place came over to give us some nice sushi rolls. Â I would say for expecting typical bar food/drinks, both were above standard for this level of restaurant. Â The server, Stella(like the beer) was awesome. Â She had us all rolling in laughter! Â We all tend to buy from people from whom we like. Â We liked Stella; the food and would come back. Â We were there just after sunset, but I would be the Sunsets would be great!
Review Source:If you don't mind good food and getting ignored. I've been frequently this place since before it was Sunsets...the food is actually better now. However, the service is at an all-time LOW! We ordered our drinks; the waitress got the drink order wrong. Then we ordered our food and no one game back to check on us. We had to go to the bar to get our silverware, napkins, condiments, 2nd drink order...we were sitting on the patio. When we finally asked for our bill it was dropped by management with no eye contact as if we were the villains. The POOR service supersedes the beautiful view and the food.
Review Source:Ok, this is my first OC review since moving from Vegas, so here goes:
Chose this place not because it looked so inviting (as other reviewers mentioned, it views the PCH and then the ocean) but we couldn't resist the draw to the outdoor patio. And it's just a roll down the hill from our new home! Parking is confusing, so we parked on PCH and 'Froggered' across, good times! The entrance is on the side; you are entering a strip mall of sorts where there's an interior corridor that each place of business has a door off of. Little odd, but once we found our way in, Wow, the facade does not do this place justice! Beautiful carved wood everywhere, long bar with lots of seats, pool table and some other scattered high tops and tables. There was a one man band playing in the far corner the night we visited, and apparently it was his birthday, so there was cake (to share) and balloons! We headed to the patio ... I can overlook the PCH to get my ocean view on, but the tables on the patio are so bizarre, barely a foot wide and three feet long. I don't mind being up close and personal when sitting across from my love, but we kept bashing knees and kicking one another!
We were greeted by a very boisterous server Stella (like the beer), and oh boy is she a hot tamale! She took our drink order and request for menus and returned fairly quickly. She was training another waitress, and set the best example by being engaging and fun. The menu was a bit limited for my tastes, so we ordered the Panko Encrusted Asparagus to start, and I had the Sugar Cane Shrimp Skewers, while my love ordered the Ahi sandwich, well done. The food was yummy, but again, there wasn't an abundance a) to chose from, or b) on the plate.
Stella was awesome at answering our questions about the place, the area and was very genuine. When she realized we were from Vegas, she introduced us to Cal in (Sp), the bar manager as he was a recent Vegas transplant too.
Pretty great local bar, look forward to making it our Cheers!
Went back to sunsets for happy hour and was disappointed by the service. Food was still good.. the peppered ahi is amazing! It was pretty crowded since the NBA playoffs are on, but we were basically ignored after ordering our first drink. Step it up Sunsets.. you have a good thing going!
Review Source:Awesome happy hour gourmet-quality food that's reasonably priced but the drinks are a little on the expensive side. There's a pool table in the middle along with darts. It gets pretty crowded at times but the service and management have been consistently excellent. Drinks are quick but food can be a little slow at times especially when I only have an hour for lunch. I like to take my friends there, it has a very relaxed atmosphere.
Review Source:3.5 STARS
I went here by accident while I was visiting my family. It was beside my brother-in-law's workplace and I was looking for a restaurant nearby to have lunch.
I had ordered the Angus Beef Sliders which came with fries and an Absolut Berry Exotic drink. They were both pretty good!
This place has an Island theme ambiance and has outdoor seating. It's kind of funny because I was the only Asian there LOL. Â The only thing that I wasn't satisfied with was the customer service. It took a long for the waitress to get my order. Maybe they were just short-staffed that day..well, I don't know.
But the experience wasn't that bad. Will this place another shot!
Fairly empty on a Saturday night. If you want to sit at the bar and get passed up as if the bar was full of customers and short on bartenders, this is your place. If you want small minded bar managers, this is definitely your place. For the 50+ year old bar manager to have such control issues over their overpriced, precisely measured one ounce a drink cocktails that is not only sad, but remaking of desperate approval that will never be obtained. I would suggest this place to no one. Bad music, watered down drinks, asshole staff, and bathrooms on the dance floor? No thanks.
Review Source:This is my new favorite adult hangout spot. Â The bar is very nice and the service is typically great. Â Especially if you get Melissa and Dani to help you. Â The food is ordered from the restaurant next door and it is good quality. Â
The thing that can't be beat is the amazing patio and view of the ocean and sunset. Â The name is absolutely perfect for this spot. Â I fear telling everyone about this place, as I don't want it to get too crowded...It's a great spot to watch sporting events too.
The good news is you can't bring kids!!!
Make sure you get your receipt and Change from you waitress. One waitress there will try to take your change and make it sound as if she thought it was her tip. Aren't I supposed to give you your tip? Not you ASSUME that my change is your tip. Besides that... they have a good beer selection.
Review Source:Went here one night to watch the Raiders vs. Chargers and I liked it. Â I'd visit Sunsets Bar again, if I'm staying in the area. Â
I had a pink lemonade drink, which was good but could have used a double shot of whatever the liquor was in there. I can't remember but it was tasty. Â I also had a lemon drop shot - should have had 10 of those! It was very easy to drink.
I ordered fried asparagus and chicken wings for the table. The wings were good but not OMG good ($8), more sweet than spicy. The asparagus spears ($8) were REALLY good - crunchy on the outside and crisp but not undercooked on the inside. Yum yum yum!
They have a decent selection of HH snacks but nothing to write home about.
Went here on a Wednesday night with some of my relatives for drinks and some bar food. Â They had a live band that was really good. Â It wasn't too crowded, enough to be lively but not packed. Â
And then the food. Â It was GREAT. Â We had the sliders, the edamame, and some tuna ceviche-like thing. Â It was SO delicious! Â I wish they had a more extensive menu because I'm sure it would be great, but the stuff they do have is totally worth it. Â Swing by after going to the beach, grab some appetizers and a drink, and enjoy the view.
I used to love going to this bar- mainly because of the cool staff- but lately they have really changed things up. It seems as if the management has changed because the vibe is completely different, and not in a good way. They also fired their best cocktail server, Erin, for no apparent reason (dumb move). Overall, i'd have to say the food is pretty mediocre and the drinks ok, but they don't seem to put much of an effort into either as they think they can just get away with anything because of their location. There are plenty of other cool spots on the beach with good food, drink and cool staff. Don't bother.
Review Source:I liked this place until the 50 person biker pub crawl came through. We couldn't get our bill fast enough to get out. There is a complimentary salsa bar that people were sicking their fingers in and eating over.....gross. The service was very friendly and they have daily specials, just don't show up when a pub crawl is going through.
Review Source:It takes a lot for me to give a place a one-star, and even more for me to leave a ZERO tip, which I did to Erin who I'm still trying to figure out. Â I arrived to wait for a friend, the bar was pretty empty so it was chill. Â Nice place...sun... sea breeze... I wish I could give it a 4 or 5 but Erin ruined that. Â Even though she was friendly to everyone else, for some reason we got off to a bad start. Â I ordered a beer and wanted food, so I looked at the menu which said 'STARTERS'. Â Now, doesn't that mean appetizers and there is something else? Â So I just asked her if I was missing a page and she just said 'THAT'S OUR MENU' and walked away before I could order anything! Â Ok, Strike 1. Â So then I enjoyed a nice view outside and just chilled with my iPod as I waited for my date. Â When she arrived, minutes behind her were 50+ COBRA Bike Club (beach cruisers) members who are the rudest and loudest ever. Â They pretty much stood inches from me and yelled at each other. Â You know when large groups get together at a bar...they kind of take over... I get it, but it's just obnoxious. Â So now I'm really starving and as Erin walked by with a few plates, I wanted to get a quick order in (really simple...they only have 10 things on the menu!), and she barked at me 'Can I put these dishes down, first?'. Â This was a first date I was on.... kind of humiliated me in front of a date. Â Strike 2. Â Sorry, you just don't do that. Â I had just witnessed her take a huge table order by memory... she can't take 2 simple food orders on her way by after I had just been there for TWO HOURS? Â Ok, so then we finally get her to take our order (I had my date do all the talking)... and then watched as the Cobras got their food and we kept waiting and waiting. Â Strike 3. And all the while they are literally sitting on me and yelling. Â So I had to abort... went up to Erin to demand my credit card back with NO FOOD ON IT... she did and I did an unusual waitress scold (not sure I ever have done that) about how she could have easily gotten our food order in before the 50 Cobras. Â I apologized to my date saying that I'm not usually this finicky, but she was totally on my side as she witnessed the attitude and the body language. Â And with being that starved and with the decibel level way out of control, I'd had it. Â I didn't even want to eat the food there at that point. Â
So... one star, Sunsets! Â I had heard great things about the place but I don't get it. Â Crappy lame menu... the view aint that great...my date said her margarita was atrocious.... Â if you like to watch cars zoomin by and the occasional train roaring by, it's great. Â But you can barely see the water. Â There are just sooo many better places in OC to get that beach vibe bar feel. Â My date and I went down to Mahe and were immediately served with smiles and food... with no attitude and the waiter looking me in the eye like I deserved. Â Just basic social etiquette is really simple. Â It was kind of cool to get the worst service in OC and then the best service in OC within a half hour of each other. Â Patrick at Mahe got the extra tip that I didn't leave Erin.
It's a chill bar. I went there on a saturday night with a girlfriend. Her brother and his friends were celebrating a birthday and I was like hey why not it'll be chill. We got there and I felt a little overdressed to be there. I had shorts, a tshirt and some cute heels. It seemed like most of the patrons were in shorts and flip flops. I probably shouldve opted for the latter since a guy asked me if I lived around here since I don't look like I belonged there.. ;/
Overall pretty nice decor, really gorgeous view over looking the ocean and decently priced drinks. Oh not to mention a pretty AWESOME DJ if I must say so myself. He played a good mix of old school hip hop and top 40s. Â If I was single and looking for a man I'd probably be more disgruntled because of the 40+ crowd. But since I'm not, it was a-ok for me! Would I be back? Yesss just so I can check out the sunset view over dinner with the hubbsters.
1st time there. Had a blast. Great atmosphere. This place is one of the few honest establishments around. Was a bit smashed (don't remember how I got home). I lost my wallet. Called the next day, and the manager (Josh) said they had it and it would be waiting for me there. I asked if it was all there? He said "I think so. Even the hundred dollar bill was still there!". I went to pick it up, and he refused to take a reward for his honesty. He just asked that I come back and bring some friends. Â I will for sure! That is how a place should operate. I hope to visit again soon. If you go, I guarantee that you will have a blast.
Review Source:Recently stopped by this place for happy hour, and left really Happy!
The service was excellent and the view was magnificent. A very relaxed atmosphere with a gorgeous staff, and pool tables. The Mai Tai's are excellent, and if you want food................you can order from the restaraunts in the same building and they bring it to you.
No complaints.
i liked this place back when it was the pub, and i like it even more now that it has a full bar and the decor has been updated. can't beat the view on a sunny day. been here for b-days parties, have ridden my bike here with the hubs, and have stopped in for drinks before going to agostino's next door. have never eaten the free snacks, but the drinks have always been tasty. really want to catch a buzz? go for the mai tai. it'll do the trick, and fast.
Review Source:Pros: Outdoor patio facing the ocean. Â Free Self-Serve snack bar including chips & salsa, pickles, pepperoncinis and sometimes even hot-dogs. You can order food from the neighboring restaurants. Open, breezy indoor bar w/ pool tables. Not really any type of "scene" just a mish-mash of tourists, bikers, camp-pendleton dudes and locals.
Cons: PCH is between you and the beach-view. Â They don't always have the pepperoncinis, which are a major draw for me. Not really any type of "scene" just a mish-mash of tourists, bikers, camp-pendleton dudes and locals.
A good bar that seems to be going through OJT in order to fit in the Capo Beach vibe. The first time I went it was a tourist crowd, with a definite chill in the air. The second time, four months later, more locals were present and it felt more like a Dana Point bar. A good happy hour.
Review Source:The decor is wonderful, and it's appeal to me ends there.
Went on on the 4th of July and we were immediately asked to leave because my buddy has a tattoo on his face (it's a cross). Â Ironically, they had accepted him along with all of his friends and their money a month earlier when his wife threw his birthday party there.
The drinks are straight 6 counts (i.e. you're not getting anything beyond a by the book standard pour) and are in my opinion over priced. Â Beer selection is decent but I have seen better.
Plenty of cougars looking for you to buy them drinks. Â Plenty of cougs in training looking for the same thing.
I haven't been back since our incident on July 4th, because I think the owners are total kooks and don't understand socal beach culture. Â I won't be back unless there is a serious paradigm shift around there.
I want to, in my heart, give this place just 1 star, but my opinion is admittedly biased based upon personal experience, so I will give them 2. Â But, they suck!
