Great bar to hang out while at the resort from around sundown. Good events including concerts, talk story sessions, even club nights. Not a bad spot but def. come for happy hour. Good priced cocktails and pupus from 6-7pm.

Food is sub-par, and wasn't impressed with the menu items. They ran out of two different items I was hoping to order. Then they brought us our appetizer after dinner because they had issues making it....it was a shrimp cocktail; how hard is that? Then they didn't even comp it or give us a discount for the hassle. Drinks are sub-par as well. I had a mojito and it was horrible. Atmosphere and decor are wonderful! There was live music and the decorations/view were great. The manager was nice and friendly though, but the waitress had an attitude that suggested she would rather be anywhere else but there. I wouldn't go back again, especially because the prices do not match the food/drink quality. You would be better off heading into Haleiwa or going to Ted's.

With limited options in nightlife here, we visited Surfer The Bar for some grub, music and fun.  The food here was terrific!  I had a burger and others had pizza, salads, etc.  Everything was great.  Drinks were flowing and our table of 6 ladies made the party!  We took over the dance floor with the live music.  Fun times!! ...and I've got lots of pictures to prove it!  ;)

Love Turtle Bay and visiting the North Shore.  Not a whole lot of options out that way so it was a nice surprise to know that there was a hip bar/nighclub/lounge type place at the Resort.  We had just had a wonderful time at a friend's wedding and wanted the festivities to continue so we headed to Surfer The Bar for more drinks.  Well... surprise surprise, there's a $10 cover charge to start. Um, okay.  And then... good grief, one glass of wine cost about $14 bucks with tip.  One Glass people!!!!  Absolutely absurd! And one beer was over $7.  That's one bottle of beer.   And the waitress was horrible.  Slow as molasses.

Drinks aside, there was the DJ and the music.  The positive is that it's not jam packed with people so there's space to dance and move on the dancefloor.  But seriously, they need to get rid of the DJ!!!  He was awful!  Didn't know how to smoothly transition from song to song.  Then he'd play one up beat jam, and then suddenly something impossible to dance to.  Horrible! He should not be a DJ.   But before the DJ, there was a live band. I did enjoy that.

I get that it's a hotel but the prices are obnoxious!  I mean come on.

I've been here about five times now, all for different reasons. Concerts, dancing, birthday happy hour, drinks with a friend and night out with my cousin.

Prices- you'd expect a nice hotel bar to be expensive but $12 for a Long Island? And not a strong one at that. Needless to say prices suck here.

Surroundings - beautiful view of turtle bay, live music most nights, smaller name performances, but hats off to having open mic nights on Tuesdays. I like being in a place that has couches, a bar and tables to sit.

Club nights here are a very fun mix of tourists just having a good time, locals having a good time and yet expensive drink.....

The last sentence sums it up - Can be fun but very spendy!

Surfer The Bar comes as a real disappointment. It was highly recommended and they seem very full of themselves. So much so, that it's okay to not open on time and keep people waiting outside as we did. I'm not sure why the post such a late opening time for dinner and then don't open at the time.
At any rate, the menu prices are expensive, the pizza was some of the worst I have ever had since it tasted like cardboard, was dry and had little in the way of toppings. The service was unfriendly and forgetful. And for the 1.5 hours there, all we heard in the way of music was the same two band members going back up on stage to practice banging a drum or mic checking over and over and over again every couple minutes.
    Nothing redeeming here.

    REALLY GOOD HAPPY HOUR!!!

The pizza is amazing!  The crust was perfect and the toppings were fresh.  We also had the ceviche, which I'm not going to lie, I was hesitant about ordering.  Now, don't ge me wrong, I love seafood and sushi, but I just wasn't in the mood for fish.  But the ceviche was DELICIOUS!!  Even after the chips were gone we were still eating the rest with chopsticks  :)

The drinks were very good and very strong!  You get your monies worth for sure!  And even though it was busy, our waitress was very attentive and we never wanted for anything.

If you're on the North Shore and looking for a good happy hour, I highly recommend checking out Surfer.

I heard all kinds of hype about the Surfer bar from some people, but then I read all the Yelp reviews and got really, really skeptical about it. I ended up going to visit the place with my bf (who is a surfer and really wanted to go there to check it out too) and I was SORELY disappointed with my experience.

    1) It's called Surfer The Bar....you'd expect that there's a lot of surf stuff involved. They have one or two display cases with surf memorabilia, a couple surf boards on display, and merchandise near the entrance, but that's about where it ends. The weekend that we went up there to check it out, the Vans Triple Crown competitions were going on, but not ONE tv out of the 4-5 tvs and HUGE projector screen was showing anything about surf. Every single tv was tuned into a football game...what? Tell me how that makes sense, please, someone.

    2) EXPENSIVE AS ALL HELL. I split a burger and chips with my bf, and it was something like $15 for a lame average burger and a small bag of chips....You'd think they'd at least empty the chips onto the plate, but no, you have to do that one yourself. If that's any indication, the rest of their menu is just as ridiculously priced for really unamazing and average/below-average food. Even the drinks are ridiculous. We ended up just asking for water.

    3) Waitress was kind of unattentive. I don't know what it's like when there are lots of people because there were only two other parties there when we were (a family of 5 who'd already eaten and was chilling watching football, and a pair of guys at the bar counter). There was only one waitress on duty, and you'd think she'd be able to handle the small amount of people in there, but we had to wait a LONG time to get her attention for stupid things like ordering food or getting more water or getting the check (we seriously couldn't get the check fast enough....).

So especially if you're a local, if there isn't some amazing band or famous surfer you're going there to see/meet, then don't bother wasting your time or money there.

Came here on a Sunday night around 10pm on this past Martin Luther King 3-day weekend with a group of friends. Apparently Sundays are karaoke night. Dang, everyone was super drunk! SO FUNNY. As soon as we got there, a drunk dude dropped his drink on my friends foot, splattering it all across the floor of the entrance to the bar. That was my first impression of the surfer bar: I knew it was gonna be a good night!! It was moderately empty so we found a table easily. There was no service, so we had to walk up to the bar each time we wanted a drink.

The crowd was mellow, but at the same time you could tell everyone was having a good time. You gotta commend the drunkies for standing up on the stage, dancing around, and singing into a microphone like they're famous. Most of the people were here on vacation and are patrons of the Turtle Bay Hotel, so everyone was in a pretty good mood.

The drinks were a bit expensive--got 2 well shots of tequila and paid something like 12 dollars for it. Yikes, or is that normal? But who oh well, I had a good time. Everyone here was super friendly and by the end of the night, a load of people were on the stage dancing and singing to some old Karaoke song I have never heard before. Strangers in the beginning of the night, best friends by the end of the night--just your typical drunk night out.

All in all, I had a blast here! But I don't think I'd go out of my way to come here again. I don't have much opportunity or reason to go out and drink on the north shore in the evenings. The main reason is because the pitch-black, two-way freeway drive is not particularly a safe or pleasant one in the wee early hours of the morning.  BUT if I so happened to be on the North Shore and felt like having a chill night at a bar, I would definitely consider The Surfer Bar. Fun times.

    In a word, a ripoff.

The menu describes the items in florid, but false details. The sashimi with locally grown ghost pepper jus is really just a couple flaccid pieces of tuna and yellowtail poorly cut and served with soy sauce in a plastic cup. And they have the nerve to charge $18 for it.

We also got an order of ceviche and 'da burger' (da meat one). The ceviche was served in a martini glass and was about just as liquidy. The taste wasn't too bad, but it was basically soup, and was served with 3 greasy, cold tortilla chips.

I asked for a medium rare burger, and got a well done costco bulk pack burger on an untoasted soggy bun covered in congealed cheese product. It was just terrible. And it was $16!

The service is also lackluster. Unfriendly, disorganized, and far from helpful.

I can understand gouging people on price at a resort, but please at least have some decency to serve better food than you could get at 7-11.

It's just unacceptable that Turtle Bay allows this place to exist. The property otherwise is pretty nice. Tomorrow night we try their version of fine dining.

The bar was dead like all the other reviews said and it was on a Friday night.  The burgers were really good aside from the first hair I saw on my plate.  So I decided to take it off and keep eating.  Then I saw a second hair :(  Fortunately I was able to get a full refund of my meal.

as guests at turtle bay resort, we obviously had to stop by the surfer bar for late night bites + drinks. the 3 of us shared the chicken wings, fries, four cheese pizza, and cocktails. overall, food was decent. waitress was prompt and friendly. bar was dead. bill was ridiculously high, so be prepared to shell out some cash cuz this place is pricey. not a bad place though, considering you dont have many other late night options if you're staying at the hotel.

    Heineken and an apple tini.

Service was prompt, bar was dead.  Football was on the TVs which I found odd for a Surf bar.  I was thinking, finally a bar sans traditional sports....nope....boo Sunday Night Football.

Sat for two whole songs before being approached by anyone to offer a menu. She seemed a bit grumpy. Finally, another two songs, aka, 8-10 minutes later, our server came over to take our order. The pizza was good enough, as were the fries, but after the hostess brought the food, no one checked on us, not even to get us another beer. It was like 8:30 and there were tables but not enough for such Inattentiveness...I worked in NYC so I speak from a considerable amount of experience to say that even if you are stretched thin in being able to get to all your tables in a timely manner, not being surly and annoyed while at said tables goes a long way to compensate for sitting for a few minutes. Unfortunately, no one told our waitress this. Skip it. Go to Hang Ten.

Surfer bar is a nice change up from town and over all has a nice vibe.  Down side is the people who work the door are usually not cool, sometimes even though it's not full they make you wait outside until they let you in, whenever there is live music the bar area is noisey as hell right on top of the people sitting below and it makes the music drown out.  I think they could have laid this place out differently.

Good things first: the place looks modern and clean and has an amazing view (and I don't mean the giant flat screen tv)...
And the not so good things:
the only beer they offered for happy hour was Bud Light. That was sad.
Their red wines are expensive but taste mediocre at best  (but I gotta say that's the case for all the bars/restaurants at the Turtle Bay Resort). A glass of Clos du Bois for $12? Oh, but you get $1 off at happy hour. That's a bargain, right?
The food was bad. My burger ($16) had one of those frozen patties and a cold, old bun. Fries were cold and soggy.
My husband's $24 New York Strip steak was not seasoned at all and came with a nice side of one clump of white rice.
To sum it up - totally overpriced and really disappointing.

Ok So i 've been back to Surfer (the bar) a few times since my first post.

Since then, I've tried a few different items from their menu.

The cesar salad is great.  The Scallops are amazing.  The people working there are great.

Tuesday Open Mic Nights are raging.

Best spot on the NS to hang out at and listen to some great music.

This was my first and LAST time here.

The other half and I ventured from town to this place just to see Anuhea since she was performing on her own, but first thing we noticed after we snagged our table...."Where's the waitress?" After flagging her down we're ready to order, she paid attention to us after that. This doesn't get them off the hook, though. The bartender had increased the cost on my other half for a crown and coke the second time we went for the same drink. WTF is that all about?

The food is spendy, but if you can only afford one thing off the itty bitty menu, order the Caesar Salad - best one I ate so far. The pizza and desserts were good, but nothing special that'll make me return.

The sound guys for Anuhea was horrible! The base was too loud, it overpowered her voice sometimes and after she and the base guy made motions to the sound guys during their performance, they still didn't get it right. FAIL BIG TIME!

Nothing about this place makes me want to ever make the drive to return. The people that even go here (guests or locals) rubbed me the wrong way. Concert or no concert. I'd avoid this place as much as possible.

Beautiful place, but boring. Wait staff is understaffed and often forget all about you or to check in with you.
Place attracts an odd mix of riff raff.
Concerts there are small and up close , that is basically the only plus.
Food comes from Leonardo's adjacent to the hotel.

Went here with my husband the first night of our honeymoon! We are guests of the hotel and wanted some casual food. The place was a little crowded at 9 pm so we sat at the bar. Ordered the Hawaiian pizza and pulled pork sandwich, both very tasty! Had some local bottle beers which were good, too. The live entertainment was great! We stayed for about an hour, would have stayed longer but we were soooo jet lagged from the flight. Not sure if we will go back again since there was a $5 cover charge, which kind of sucked because we're already paying so much to stay at the resort and then the food was very expensive! Wish they would waive the cost for hotel guests.

I made the Drive from Manoa to Kahuku in good time to check out Sister Carol.

The bar is nice, clean bathrooms and a pretty nice spot for live music.

They have a nice size stage and what looked like a good sound system.   The sound could use a more work but I'm sure that will come with time... hopefully.

Drinks were a little more then i expected, about $8.50 for a Jameson on the rocks.  I didn't get to eat cause i couldn't afford it lol.

overall bring good company and you ll have a good time.

Surfer, the bar, looks like a sports bar with the giant TV screen, but they are trying to promote it as an "upscale" club that has music that changes throughout the week.  No music on the night I was there except for a DJ but there is a local artist playing later this week that I will check out.  It doesn't really seem like a good venue to listen to music.

The decor is contemporary ,all except for the dated red Formica cabinets behind the bar.  It's like they updated everything except for that which is odd.  Especially if you are sitting at the bar as that is your focal point.

The Old Bay Club that was here used to have pool tables, etc, but those are gone and replaced with high tops and seating areas.

The food is okay- I ordered a pizza which came from Leonardo's also in the resort. It was good but nothing to gush about.  And the bartenders were friendly enough . . . . which is what makes or breaks a bar in my book.

The crowd reflects the resort, mostly tourists with a few locals who stopped in after work so it can get loud at times as the man next to me demonstrated with his booming voice and crazy stories!

    A solid 3 stars.

We trekked our way over to turtle bay to see Meiko perform. She was awesome but the venue, not so much.

The menu is...limited and small. Slightly on the expensive side (but that's expected of a resort bar). With the amount of seafood on the menu, I guess it's targeted to the tourists. However, we were starving. Although it was busy, we were able to order a pepperoni pizza. Lame, right? The menu boasted special ingredients, I was hooked. Any pizza that strays far from the fast food greasiness, I will try!

The flavors were amazing. Nice, thin crust that appeared perfectly browned...I expected a crisp outside and a chewy center. I was sorely wrong. And I mean SORELY. The pizza was rock hard! Don't get me wrong, it was delicious! But, my teeth still hurt an hour later as we waiting in line to get an autograph. The next day, I shamefully indulged in a greasy pizza with a delicious, chewy crust.

It's difficult to fairly rate service during an event. However, our server was nice enough to inform us that if we wanted a seat, we could ask any couple sitting at a table if we could join them. Also, to let her know if anyone refused to share (she said "cuz, that ain't gonna happen"). We decided our standing view surpassed the view at any seat available. She was attentive but didn't disrupt us during the performances. She was also nice enough to bring our check before the performance ended.

I would definitely not head to Surfer the bar without a show to see. I would reluctantly go to Surfer the bar, depending on the show. I would definitely eat prior to going to Surfer the bar.

WOW, this looks so different from the last time we were here! Since Surfer took over the Turtle Bay bar, they completely renovated, took out the pool tables and shuffle board, and replaced it with a cool, lounge-y type atmosphere, very cool, and very eye catching.  Previously it was pretty dated, not really a "cool" bar, more of a "comfy" bar, but now it's gorgeous! Plus, the night we were there they had some kind of event so they had a magician walking around doing magic tricks to every group.  AHHHHMAZEBALLS!!! He was freaking awesome! He put my husbands phone into a balloon, and made my Sister In Laws ID fly around his body.  Yes, I had a drink or two, but still, he was amazing! I want to hire him for my next party!

I wanted to like it more, but...  We did have friendly service, the views are amazing, the place was clean, and the three guys playing Hawaiian music weren't too bad at all.  The only beer on the Happy Hour menu was Coors Light.  The mixed drinks were good.  They were out of  ahi and edamame.  It took forever to get our basket of fries and they were cold.  Nobody knew the fish they were serving in the ceviche, and although we did order it and it was good I couldn't even begin to remember the name of the fish.  I did notice the waitresses hauling food across the lobby from another restaurant.  The logistics of keeping a stand alone resort on the North Shore stocked with a variety of food must be a challenge, particularly on a Monday after a busy weekend.  I guess I would go back with lower expectations.

talk story is a brilliant marketing idea. We went for the NOAA wave specialist's talk and it was a) well organized, b) great food/drinks, and c) a unique and interesting way to spend a wednesday on the north shore. this bar is looking especially beautiful with the remodel. the previous place was so peculiar and nobody local would seek it out specifically. now it has a great vibe, cool decor and a real purpose. i did get my wine in a plastic cup because they were out of the real thing, which was the only sucky part. prices are on par for north shore - would love if they had a pau hana hour or kamaaina specials to make me visit during certain hours or more frequently.

will go back again on another night and check out the scene. it's a good move in the right direction and about time the previous place got a facelift that wasn't half ass.

The place is nice but it was better when it was the Bay Club. Drinks cost more ( about $7-$10 a beer) and some nights you have to pay to get in. They took the two pool tables, dart boards and shuffle board out. Oh and they close early (1am).
